To solve ratio and proportion problems, first add the ratio numbers to find the total parts, then multiply each person's ratio part by the total quantity divided by the total parts. For example, when David and Daniel share 60 apples in the ratio 2:3, the total parts are 5, so David gets (2/5) × 60 = 24 apples and Daniel gets (3/5) × 60 = 36 apples. The same method applies to any ratio problem, such as two men sharing 80 sweets in the ratio 5:11, where the first man gets (5/16) × 80 = 25 sweets and the second man gets (11/16) × 80 = 55 sweets.

EP2- RATIO & PROPORTION
Added:[music] >> Hello children. Welcome to another episode on maths with Shadrack. Today we are going to be treating ratio and proportion.
Today we are going to treat this question. David and Daniel share 60 apples in the ratio 2 is to 3.
So, how many apples do [clears throat] each of them get? So, to know which ratio each of them gets is here. David comes first and ratio two comes first. So, David So, two is under David and Daniel comes second and ratio three comes second. So, three is under Daniel. They both share the 60 apples. So, first let's add these two numbers here.
It gives us five.
So, to solve this, we will first look at how many apples David gets. We will do two over the sum here, which is five, times the number of apples, which is 60.
I hope you are following. I hope you are writing down all this. So, if we now cancel out, you know your multiplication tables, the answer will be 24.
Now I've gotten this, there are two ways of getting how many apples that Daniel has.
The first way of getting many apples, Daniel? What is which the answer is 36 or you can simply minus 60 by 34.
Which is the number of apples in total minus the number of apples David got, which is 36.
You have gotten the answer for this question. The example two.
In example two, two men share 80 sweets in the ratio 5:11.
How many sweets do each of them get?
Let's see. Let's point out the first one.
is two second one.
The first ratio the first is for the first one and the second is for the second one.
So, now let's find how many the first man gets. You will add five and 11. 5 + 11 = 16.
So, it will be five over 16 times 80. I hope you have written down what I've written.
So, if we cancel out video multiplication tables, you should know that the answer is 35.
Now, let's go to the second one.
So, the second one will be equals to 11 over 16 times 80.
So, if we divide, we have five and five times 11 is 55.
>> [snorts] >> Obviously, there's another way of getting what is the second man has, so which is 80 minus 35 equals 35.
And that is our answer.
Let's do this homework and write the answer in the comment section.
A man and a woman share 500 naira in the ratio of 3 is to 7.
How much money do each of them get?
So, let's do a recap of what we've done here. In example one, David and Daniel share 60 apples in the ratio of 2 is to 3.
How many apples do each of them get? In our solution, David is the first person, so he takes the ratio two. Daniel is the second person, he takes the ratio three. So, if you add them together, five.
So, to get how many apples David got, we do 2/5 * 60. So, 5 cancel here 1, 5 cancel here 12. He is 2 * 12 will give us 24.
So, to get how many apples Daniel got, we 3/5 * 60, which is 5 cancel here 1, 5 cancel here 12. 3 * 12 will give 36.
Well, there's another way of getting our answer, which is 60 - 24, which is 36. I hope you enjoyed the video. Do well to like and subscribe.
Thank you for watching. I'll see you in my next video.
Bye.
