ADC Presidential Primary: Atiku, Amaechi & Hayatu-Deen Battle

[00:00:00]The African Democratic Congress is holding its presidential primary as party members across the country move to choose a candidate to challenge President Bulatinu in the 2027 election.

[00:00:11]Former Vice President Atiku Abuakar, former transportation minister Rutimi and ex-banker Muhammad Hayatuin are battling for the party's sole presidential ticket after reported efforts to produce a consensus candidate failed. The ADC says it will use the direct primary method for the exercise maintaining that the process is fully in line with the electoral act 2026. We have our reporters joining from different parts of the country on this development. But let's go to Mono Balagubu who is in Kogi state. Mono, can you give us an update on the ADC 2027 presidential ticket and how that is going? the ADC uh party secretariat in law culture and uh voting materials are being expected all the way from Abuja.

[00:00:53]Uh party members that we have spoken to here told us that the chairman and also representatives from the party in Abuja will be coming up shortly. But from the visuals I sent earlier, most of the returning officers from all the local government areas are here in the party secretariat waiting for the materials that will be used uh for the primary.

[00:01:18]He's the state financial secretary of the party who will speak with us shortly. So if you could kindly look at the camera. So how soon can we expect to the start of uh the presidential primary here in uh states AD6?

[00:01:33]>> Very soon we are expected to start.

[00:01:36]Materials are very close here from Abuja. The chairman and the secretary all are very close as you can see the returning officers are already to move to field and I already informed all the local party chairman the junior chairman to mobilize all the card carrying members of ades out for a very transparent and credible >> are we at some point going to see consensus in some government in some other words >> well well well we are going to do direct primaries so where they feel that they There's no need for direct primary and consensious. It's up to them. But the instruction from the party is I go to the shoot do direct primaries for all the asparents and declare the winner and the return officer return the result for us.
