In modern warfare, belligerent nations often propose short-term ceasefires timed around political events (such as Victory Day parades) to gain propaganda benefits and tactical advantages, while continuing military operations during these brief pauses, as demonstrated by Russia's pattern of proposing brief truces that are subsequently violated, prompting affected nations to demand longer, more binding ceasefire arrangements.

22 Killed, 3 Cities, 1 Day! "Russian Scumbag" Putin Pounds Ukraine, Renders Ceasefire DOA | VERTEXAdded:
Putin promised a victory day ceasefire.
Then, hours before it was due to begin, Russian forces bombed Ukrainian cities.
Awaiting a temporary truce, Ukrainians were instead soaked in blood. So, was Moscow offering peace or just staging another pause for optics?
Zaporichia, Denipro, Krammatsk.
Russian forces struck these three Ukrainian cities in a single day. 22 people were killed and dozens more were injured on May 5th. And all of it happened just hours before a ceasefire was supposed to begin. Zilinsky went on X that night and did not hold back.
This was an absolutely cynical terrorist strike with no military justification whatsoever.
Not a single day passes without such Russian attacks on our cities and villages. This one strike alone has already claimed 12 lives. In Zaporizia, a southern city that sits uncomfortably close to the front line. A guided aerial bomb hit civilian infrastructure directly. At least 12 people died and seven were hospitalized.
39 were affected in total. Zilinski described it as a deliberate targeting of civilian life, not a military operation. Then later that same evening, Denipro was hit. Four more were killed.
Zalinsky hit back with a scathing attack.
>> In the evening, the Russian scumbags also launched attacks on Denipro. As of now, four people were reported killed.
My condolences to the families and loved ones. And then there was Krammatsk in the Daetsk region. Aerial bombs hit the city center. What started as a reported five deaths was later updated to six. At least 13 others were injured as rescue operations continued through the night.
All of this was happening on the eve of a Ukrainian proposed ceasefire. On May 4th, Zalinski had announced that Ukraine would unilaterally declare a ceasefire beginning at midnight on May 6th. The move was a direct response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal for a 2-day truce on May 8th and 9th, timed around Russia's Victory Day parade.
Ukraine's position has been consistent throughout this war. Short truses, in Kev's view, serve Moscow's interests, not Ukraine's.
A pause for a parade is not a peace process. It buys Russia time, optics, and a news cycle. And Zalinski made that frustration plain. It is essential that Russia is forced to end this war. We need silence from such strikes and all others like them every single day, not just for a few hours somewhere out there for celebrations. Life must be protected. This is not the first time Russia has proposed a ceasefire and then kept fighting. Anyway, earlier this year on April 12th, Orthodox Easter, Russia declared another short-term truce.
Ukraine's general staff reported that Russian forces violated that ceasefire 7,696 times in a single day. So, when Putin announced a Victory Day truce, the reaction from Keev was skepticism.
Ukraine countered with its own ceasefire offer, one that would begin earlier and crucially with no expiry date tied to a parade schedule. The pattern has become evident. Russia proposes a brief window of quiet. Ukraine pushes for something longer and more binding. The brief window arrives, fighting continues, and the world is left debating who broke what and when. Ukraine has pushed repeatedly for a 30-day ceasefire. That proposal has not gained traction in Moscow. And so the war continues city by city, strike by strike, with truses proposed and violated and a death toll that keeps climbing regardless of what anyone announces on social media.
Fresh reports from the independent Russian outlet Important Stories claim Russian President Vladimir Putin has sharply escalated his personal security measures amid growing fears of an internal coup attempt and assassination threats from within Russia's own political elite.
According to the report, which cites an unnamed European Union intelligence agency, Putin has allegedly withdrawn from many of his usual residences and is now spending extended periods working from fortified underground bunkers.
Since the beginning of March 2026, the Kremlin and Vladimir Putin have been concerned about a leak of sensitive information and at the same time about the risk of a plot or coup attempt against the Russian president.
In particular, he fears the use of drones for a possible assassination attempt by members of the Russian political elite.
The report claims the Kremlin's concern is no longer centered solely on external threats linked to the Ukraine war, but increasingly on instability from within Russia's own power structure.
Security around Putin has reportedly been tightened by the Federal Protective Service or the FSO.
The Federal Protective Service has significantly tightened security measures around Putin. Visitors to the presidential administration undergo two levels of screening, including a full body search by FSO officers.
The report also claims that Putin and his family have stopped visiting traditional residences such as Novo Aario and Valdai, both long associated with the Russian leader.
Instead, the report says the Russian president is sheltering in renovated bunkers, including facilities in Russia's Kranadar region.
The FSO has significantly reduced the list of locations regularly visited by the president. Neither he nor his family visit their usual residences in the Moscow region and will die anymore.
The same report claims that Putin may spend weeks at a time inside these underground complexes while state media continue broadcasting pre-recorded appearances to project normaly.
One key flash point appears to be tensions involving security council secretary Sergey Shuyu who is reportedly viewed within Kremlin circles as being linked to coup related concerns.
The atmosphere of paranoia reportedly intensified after the December 2025 carb bomb assassination of Lieutenant General Fenil Sarov in Moscow which triggered an emergency security meeting among Russia's top brass.
According to the report, that meeting devolved into a heated confrontation.
>> At the end of this tense meeting, Putin called for calm, proposing to change the format of the discussion. He instructed participants to submit their proposals for resolving the issues discussed within a week.
The outlet further claims that Kremlin staff working near Putin have been stripped of internet enabled devices, banned from public transport, and placed under expanded surveillance. While none of these claims has been independently verified, they paint a picture of a Russian leadership increasingly consumed by internal distrust.
If accurate, the report suggests that beyond the battlefield pressures of Ukraine, the Kremlin may now be confronting something potentially more dangerous for Putin. fear from inside his own walls.
