FSD 14.3.4 Arrival & Parking Options Tested: 3 Stops, Drive to 3 Bars

[00:00:00]Okay, hey everyone. We're using FSD 14.3.4 [music] and we are having the car take us to three different bars to test three different parking [music] Excuse me, arrival options.

[00:00:17]Uh one of the new ones is pull over. So, we're going to be testing that as well as the other options, street parking [music] and parking lot. Uh so, essentially, I'm testing whether FSD can actually >> [music] >> finish the job in the last 500 ft. Will it pull over at the right place? Will it be able to find street parking? Will it find a space in a parking lot? Actually, will it find a parking lot? And if it does, maybe it'll even find us a good space. So, we'll see. Um I'm calling this I'm calling this FSD bar crawl. [music] I think it's appropriate. We're going to three bars.

[00:00:56]And so, if you're wondering, so why [music] why this test? Well, well, because I've always thought of FSD as an assistant that does 95% of the heavy lifting. Um you know, as you know, when you almost arrive, usually, you're going to take over and park yourself. But, if FSD's to ever become truly useful as a robo-taxi, right? And that's where it's headed. Um then, we have to care about arrival behavior. It has to finish the trip. Uh and so, the last 5% does matter.

[00:01:28]Uh anyway, on that note, we are now navigating to a place called uh Botanical Lounge.

[00:01:34]And this uh is the same place where FSD has failed in my first 14.3.4 video. So, this is a redo. Um If you haven't seen that video, go check it out. But, very briefly, so what happened that night was um Glenwood Avenue, this street where this bar is on was closed. And so, FSD kept rerouting.

[00:01:57]It was acting too literal in that it wanted to navigate to that exact pin, that exact location before it would look for street parking. Um and so it was in this uh endless loop.

[00:02:13]A seemingly endless loop. It could have found street parking like somewhere, you know, like on the side streets or wherever, but it wouldn't park. It just kept going round and round. So I aborted and that's why here we are uh trying again tonight. I I don't anticipate any problems. I think we'll be fine because this is a week night.

[00:02:29]It's uh not that busy. The other night was Saturday night. So I have it set to street parking.

[00:02:35]Oops.

[00:02:37]Yeah. Oops. Oh, for God's sake. Okay, yeah. Stand. Park. Street.

[00:02:43]And is it going to look for parking?

[00:02:45]Yes, it did. Oh. Wow. Well, that's fast.

[00:02:49]Okay, cuz everything on this street is parallel parking and we want to know is it going to park in the spot in terms of will it know the difference between a handicap space, a loading space, a a no parking anytime space?

[00:03:05]So Okay, that was fast. So let's see what it Where Where have we parked here?

[00:03:10]This space says, okay, no parking anytime ahead, no parking from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00. It seems to be okay. This would during the day be a loading zone.

[00:03:21]Um but wow, it did it. It did it really fast and here we are.

[00:03:27]And this is this is the bar in question. Okay.

[00:03:32]So that was that was excellent. It parked us right in front.

[00:03:37]We got lucky with the parking. It parked us right in front and here we are. Um so that was street the street parking option. We're now going to test the pull over option. So let me enter >> [music] >> the next place in the uh nav and then I'll come back to you.

[00:03:55]Okay, so the next place we're going to is [music] Clockwork and as you can see it's very close it's very close to where we currently are and because this test is not to test how it gets there but the arrival behavior, right? So >> [music] >> that's why I didn't choose something far away. So we're going to do pull over.

[00:04:14]The vehicle Okay, so this is new with 14.3.4 the vehicle [music] for God's sake the vehicle will pull over near your destination. Okay, [music] so let's Let's go. Let's see what [music] does the car consider to be near? That's very Robo taxi like right to essentially [music] take you close enough where you can get out. I mean we're not getting out but I'm but I'm just saying it is very Robo taxi [music] like where it takes you somewhere near.

[00:04:43]And hey, maybe it will be like that where one day when if banish mode actually comes and it's not a myth you could just get out and have the car go park [music] itself. Um Okay, so we're turning left here.

[00:05:10]Okay, so select it pull over and indeed it is pulling to the side of the road.

[00:05:15]There is enough room I think here for a car to pass. So there we are. It took us to the bar. It pulled over and that's great. Okay, success. That's two for two now. Let me enter in the next one. Hold on a sec.

[00:05:59]All right. So, I don't know if you noticed that right here earlier [music] it just said driving to Brass Taps. That's new also with 14.3.4 where [music] it briefly announces where it's going. So, I kind of like that. I also like that it doesn't stay there. It goes away after a [music] few seconds.

[00:06:19]So, I've done a couple videos on 14.3.4 and I got to say that um this is a really really good update.

[00:06:26]In fact, it's one of the No, not one of It is the best update in recent memory.

[00:06:31][music] Um it's so good that and I said this in another video, it's so good that I'm not rushing >> [music] >> or I don't want them to rush necessarily for the next update. But, this is so good I want to like enjoy it, you know, it does so many [music] things so well.

[00:06:46]Um Chief among them is the whole brake smoothness, braking smoothness. There was a lot of brake stabbing in past iterations. This version it breaks so well. Like right now, it just stopped really beautifully. Um it feels very resolved. Okay, and so now as we approach this came up says approaching destination. I don't know if you saw and then it went from full screen uh sorry, full visualization to this to the map.

[00:07:17]In case you want to change the arrival option, I guess. So, now let's see. Is there a parking garage nearby? We'll see.

[00:07:26]This is How is it going to find a parking garage? This is This This has got to be map data unless the cameras and Tesla Vision can see what is a garage.

[00:07:38]I don't know.

[00:07:40]Yeah, so that's the option there. It's park It's not even parking lot, this is parking garage. So, we're going to We're going to see if it can actually get us into a parking garage and find us a good space.

[00:07:51]So, this is really great because the car's coming here for a second there, I thought they had to stop. They didn't.

[00:07:59]And FSD will save you from a little mishap if you're not really paying attention.

[00:08:04]And in fact, it is turning into It is turning into a garage. Wow, okay. Well, we can't go in here. I going to disengage because it says here uh no public parking, so we're going to stop here, but I would say for all intents and purposes, I would say that's a success. I mean, yeah, wouldn't you?

[00:09:57]Um Oh. Let's say somebody like sort of cuts into your lane or there's somebody, >> [music] >> you know, coming up on the street on the side street perpendicular to you real fast. It doesn't overreact. Um [music] it drives like a very experienced driver where it'll it'll let up on the accelerator. It it eases up. What's going on here?

[00:10:19]Uh you're probably hearing a bunch of like noise or music. [music] That's where it's coming from. Okay, anyway. So it drives like a very experienced calm driver. It lets up on the accelerator very smoothly uh where you're not, you know, you're not diving and pitching forward. Um it doesn't Yeah, again, it doesn't brake stab.

[00:10:42]Um so yeah.

[00:10:44]The The driving, I guess what I'm trying to say in this version is very refined.

[00:10:47]It feels very refined [music] and uh a lot of issues feel very very resolved. And so that's why I really like this version. Um Okay, so right here we got a no turn on red and it is indeed not turning. So how does it know that? I'm curious. Yes, how does it know that? Because sometimes FSD messes that up. It'll turn when the sign says don't turn on red.

[00:11:15]Tonight it's following the the the what the sign says. So that's great.

[00:11:21]I wonder if that's part of the update.

[00:11:24]I wonder if FSD also pulls like static map data where it knows this right here, this corner, you can't turn on on red or it read the sign. Who knows?

[00:11:36]All right. So, again, this has come up approaching destination.

[00:11:50]If we suddenly change our mind, we're not changing our mind. I want for it to find a parking lot. [music] Um Earlier, I had doubts whether it could find >> [music] >> parking garage. It did. Now, let's see if it can find a parking lot.
