A Quebec Clipper is a weather system originating from Eastern Canada that brings cooler temperatures and precipitation to the northeastern United States; in this forecast, such a system is expected to cause temperatures to drop into the 40s and 50s across the Syracuse area, with showers developing in the north country and potential snow in higher elevations of central New England, while winds will shift from west to northwest as the cold front passes through.

Storm Team Forecast: 9 pm Thursday May 28thAñadido:
Hello, I'm Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Jim Tesy. Here's your nine o'clock weather update on Thursday evening after reaching into the 80s two days ago. A much cooler day. At times we were fighting through a lot of clouds, although decent amount of sun in the afternoon. Enough to get us to 67. 53 the low for the third straight day. No precipitation here in Syracuse.
Temperatures dropping through the 50s already. 58 here in Syracuse. A lot of mid50s showing up. And as we take a look at the New York State Mezonet reporting sites, it's 50 currently in Woodgate, 52 in Morrisville and Castantia or Cenatus I should say. And it looks like uh temperatures will be dropping into the 40s widespread across the area. Some of these normally cold spots south and east of Syracuse near the Tug Hill. We'll likely get into the upper 30s here in Syracuse, Auburn, Waterlue, Onida. Upper 40s for lows by tomorrow morning. Taking a look at the satellite and the radar, you can see some showers that were off to our east earlier today. High pressure that's building in at least temporarily from the Great Lakes. You see some quiet weather there. However, we're going to be watching our next weather maker coming in from eastern Canada. We'll call this a Quebec clipper as it is coming from Eastern Canada. In the meantime, it is quiet. We talk about the cool weather for tonight. A few clouds at times, especially across the north country. We're already rising into the 50s by 7:00 here in Syracuse. Taking you through the middle of the day, a good deal of sunshine here in Syracuse, but more in the way of clouds to the north where it will be cooler, likely only in the low to mid60s across parts of the north country. Uh here in Syracuse and roughly the throughway south, we've got a good chance even with the clouds coming in tomorrow afternoon of reaching temperatures into the low 70s in the lower elevations. And then you can see some showers starting to develop, especially the north country, maybe even a little bit farther to the south. Those showers will move closer to the Syracuse area by later on in the evening tomorrow. Winds like today will be gusty out of the west by midday. We could see some gusts to near 30 miles hour during the afternoon. And notice that shift in the wind from the west to the northwest.
That's because a cold front is coming through. There's your Quebec Clipper dropping into New England with some steadier rain. Um, notice there's probably going to be some snow in the higher elevations of central New England on Friday night. For us, a lot of clouds to start on Saturday. There's probably a lingering shower, maybe a little bit of drizzle, and then going through the middle of the day, we'll start to see sunshine develop. But it is cool. And another theme for the weekend along with the cooler weather returning is the fact there will be winds around Saturday afternoon and probably Sunday as well.
Saturday's highs kind of on par with what we saw today. Mid60s here in Syracuse. It'll be a struggle to get past 60 Courtland, also Kasanovia, 62 in Lville. So here's your planning forecast. The good news is there's not a lot of precipitation over the weekend even though it's going to be quite breezy and it will be a little bit cool.
Although by Sunday we're near 70°. We're around 70 to start next week. Couple of scattered showers both days. Wednesday and Thursday appear to be dry. Sun and clouds. Temperatures back into the 70s.
