In Greek mythology, the goddess Eris, who was excluded from Thetus's wedding to Pelus, caused the Trojan War by throwing a golden apple inscribed with 'For the fairest' into the celebration, which led to the Judgment of Paris where three goddesses competed for the apple, and Paris's choice of Aphrodite's prize (Helen of Troy) sparked the 10-year war that killed thousands of heroes.

The Wedding Crasher Who Started a WarAñadido:
Did you know that in Greek mythology, one goddess started the most famous war in history because she didn't get a wedding invitation? Her name was Aerys, the goddess of chaos and discord. When the sea goddess Thetus married the mortal hero Pelus, every god and goddess on Mount Olympus was invited to celebrate. Every god except one, Aerys was left out because, well, she was literally the goddess of starting drama.
But excluding the goddess of chaos from your party, that's like poking a sleeping dragon. So Aerys decided to crash the wedding in the most chaotic way possible. She threw a golden apple right into the middle of the celebration. Inscribed on it were three simple words that would change everything. For the fairest.
Immediately, three goddesses lunged for it. Hera, queen of the gods, Athena, goddess of wisdom, and Aphrodite, goddess of love. Each one demanded the apple, claiming to be the most beautiful. The competition escalated into the judgment of Paris, where each goddess tried to bribe a Trojan prince.
Paris chose Aphrodite's offer of the most beautiful woman alive. That woman was Helen of Troy. And that choice started the 10-year Trojan War that killed thousands of heroes. All because one goddess got her feelings hurt over a wedding snub.
