Muscle growth and force capability depend on the tension and metabolic disruption created within muscle fibers during training, not on the absolute weight being lifted; effective training requires directing tension to the specific muscles you want to develop rather than focusing on heavier loads.

Why Lifting More Weight Isn’t Always Better for Muscle GrowthAñadido:
There is the challenge, especially in young people or young individuals, to see training as a sort of a competition.
So, the more weight you are capable of moving, the better. There's a character of showing off to a certain point.
That's not how the muscles or the body adapts to training. Muscle actually doesn't care how much weight is on the plate. It just cares how much tension and how much metabolic disruption occurs within the muscular tissue, within the muscle fibers, because that's what decides what happens afterwards in terms of adaptation. And this is what we actually want to achieve. We want to set a stimulus in each training session for each exercise in order for muscles to be able to grow and to increase their force capability. This and this is totally independent on whether it's 100 lb or 120 lb. It's more about directing tension to those muscles that you actually want to develop, instead of just focusing on the weight that is being moved.
