Healing requires addressing personal self-sabotage behaviors (such as overeating, lack of rest, and unforgiveness) rather than relying solely on faith, as these actions create barriers that prevent the manifestation of God's healing power despite Jesus's sacrifice on the cross.

Healing and Self-Sabotage: Avoiding Self-Inflicted Illness | Carrie PickettAdded:
[music] >> We are here with Rick Renner, one of my favorite people, and your new book, Healing, but it's titled everything you need to know about healing.
And it is an amazing, massive book. I think it's 736 pages.
>> Something like that.
>> Yes.
I think it is amazing. So, why a book on healing?
And why is it so big? I mean, like, there's a vision behind that. Like, it's it's God. But what why healing? Well, first of all, I want to say I'm glad to be with you.
>> Oh, thank you.
>> I'm always glad to be with you. I love you. I love Mike. I love your family.
Thank you.
>> But Carrie, over the years, we've seen so many signs and wonders, healings.
We've even seen the resurrection of the dead. Of course, Andrew's seen how many people raised from the dead.
>> Yeah. Amen. I forget, but >> I I don't we I don't know how many anymore. But then we had some people die.
Yeah.
>> And people begin to say, "Wait, wait, wait.
If Jesus really paid the price for our healing >> Yeah. and these people were standing in faith, why did they die?" And we had a few other people that were just struggling with their health, but believing and not receiving the manifestation.
And I felt like that deserves an honest answer. Those are intelligent questions.
>> Yeah. Those are sincere questions.
And so, I decided to write a book called Everything You Need to Know About Healing.
>> Yeah. And the reason I call it that is because there's a lot of things about healing that people never discuss. Yeah.
They talk about how to be healed, but really, there's not a lot of books talking about why people are not healed.
And so, the first eight chapters of that book are about self-sabotage.
I say that if you put your foot on the gas and on the brake at the same time, you're not going to go anywhere. Yeah.
And there's a lot of people who are putting their foot on the gas for healing, but they're also putting their foot on the brake because of all the crazy things they're doing, and they're self-sabotaging.
>> Such a great lady. That's so good.
>> isn't that Jesus didn't do the work. He did the work. Yeah. But if you're doing what is wrong, you're going to get sick.
And I'll give you an example. Yeah.
15 years ago I weighed 150 lb more than I weigh right now.
Isn't that Isn't that amazing? You were You're half the man you used to be. I mean, Carrie, I was really big. Wow.
>> But you know, when you get big Yeah.
>> you begin to wear black clothes, you layer all your clothes to kind of hide it, and you don't really realize how big you are. Well, I was big. Yeah. I was falling. I had high blood pressure. And I had back problems all the time.
>> Yeah. And I kept saying to people, "Would you please pray for my back?
Would you please pray for my back?" And one day the Lord said, "Stop asking people to pray for your back. You don't have a back problem. You're overweight."
Oh.
>> And that very same day I had just read that you're to eat or drink to the glory of God. So, I sat down to eat and in front of me was a heaping plate of food.
And the Holy Spirit said "Can you eat that to the glory of God?"
Oh. I did not like the question. And the follow-up question was, "Can you be a glutton to the glory of God?" And I knew the Lord was dealing with me.
That the health issues that I was having didn't have a thing to do with the work of the cross. It had to do with me.
Well, I opened the door for the devil, and he came raging in.
And I was the one who had to shut the door. Wow. Another moment in my life Mhm. I physically broke because I never stopped to rest. I mean, never, never, never stopped to rest. I want to say to you, you're very busy. Yeah.
>> Be sure you take time to rest.
>> Thank you, sir.
>> I know you and Mike are working really hard.
>> Yes. But in East Africa, we were living in two cities at one time, in two countries. Wow. We would wake up in the middle of the night, wouldn't even know where we were. And I began to make bad decisions. I began to have some health issues. Wow. And once again the Lord said, "Rick, this has nothing to do with faith, nothing to do with the work of the cross.
>> Man, it's so good.
>> This has to do with stupidity. Wow. I had to close the door. Yeah.
And I was speaking to a famous doctor and he said to me "Rick, if Christians would forgive 80% of Christians would immediately get well."
That's how much sickness is connected to unforgiveness and conflict. Wow.
>> And so, the first eight chapters of that book is dealing with if Jesus really died for us to be well, then why are we sick? That's so good.
And if people won't get mad at me in the first eight chapters they'll finally get to chapter nine, where I start giving answers about how to get well.
Well, sometimes people need to get their toes stepped on to actually hear.
Well, that's why I'm very transparent to say, "I did it wrong. I did it wrong. I did it wrong." I want people to know I'm not being judgmental.
Well, then, let me ask this question just as a follow-up. When people realize that they've done wrong sometimes there can be condemnation.
Like, "Oh, man, well, then I deserve this." And And then they get into trying to then in their own strength fix themselves. Like, "Well, if it's me, then I'll fix myself." But if God shows you that it's you self-sabotaging how did you lean into His grace to make the changes? Well, first of all, with repentance.
I mean, if you realize you've done something wrong, you got to repent.
Yeah. And repentance is not just feeling sorry, it's making the decision. Yeah, it's the whole 180° turn.
>> the Greek word metanoia. It means to think differently.
>> Yeah.
And you have got to renew your mind.
Yeah. You've got to be honest with the Lord. It's good. And you know, you don't need to go digging around inside your heart looking for what's wrong. I Don't do that. No. But if the Holy Spirit shows you that you've left a door open, then you need to respond to it. It's so good. And so, that's what I did. Amen. And God gives you the grace. You draw near to God, God's going to draw near to you.
Yeah. And he'll give you the grace you need to change. Yeah. That's what I did, and that's what anybody did. Another reason people get sick Yeah. is just being immobile.
You know, if you just sit around all the time you will lose the ability to move. Yeah.
I've got a relative right now I'm very concerned about. Oh. I mean, this relative is just declining right in front of us.
It's immobility. Yeah, all you do is sit on the couch and watch TV your body is like an instrument it's going to lose its mobility. Wow.
>> And unfortunately, we live in the Western world where today they don't even build sidewalks in neighborhoods.
I mean, people believe they're just supposed to walk from the car, from the couch to the refrigerator, or to the car.
They drive for 30 minutes in the parking lot to get a place close to the door so they don't have to walk. And then their groceries are brought to their car.
Their Their to-go food is brought to their car. But our bodies are made to move. So true.
>> And I know that you and Mike are very intentional about exercising, keeping in shape.
>> Yeah. If we want our bodies to work a long time, then we need to do everything we can to keep them working. Yeah. It's just the aspect of we have the Spirit of God on the inside of us.
But we live in a human body in a natural world. So, how do we let supernatural relationship with God teach us how to live in this world so that we are effective and that we're not walking in sickness?
Well, you know, we need to use common sense >> Yeah. and faith.
Yeah. Another reason why people get sick is lack of knowledge. I grew up as a Southern Baptist. Andrew and I have very similar backgrounds.
>> Yeah, yeah. We didn't just not believe in healing, we believed Yeah. God made us sick.
And boy, owned it. I mean, we owned it.
We would even pray and say, "God, give us the grace to accept this sickness so that we can glorify you in it." You know, if you really believe that, the devil will just send you one problem at I I I mean, one after another after another.
You got to renew your mind to the truth.
Yeah. And that's why people need to read that book. They need to really understand what Jesus paid for on the cross. Isaiah 53:5 forgiveness of sin He released us from guilt and shame.
Yeah. He gave us peace of mind, and physically with his stripes were healed. And that's not spiritual healing. Yeah.
>> That's physical and mental healing. It belongs to us.
>> Amen. Well, okay. So, they get past the first eight chapters. They've repented.
They're making changes.
What do the next chapters hold for them, and what does it release in their understanding? Well, chapter nine, I think, is the most important chapter in the book. We're going to pull it out and make it a separate book.
And it's about redemption. What is redemption? Carrie, you will love it.
And we dive into the meaning of the word redemption.
>> Yeah. What it means to be redeemed.
Chapter 10 is what did Jesus really pay for on the cross, according to Isaiah chapter 53 Yeah.
>> verses 3 through 5. That is foundational to everything.
>> It is. That You got to believe that.
Mhm. And then chapter 11 gets into 10 different ways to appropriate healing. Taking communion.
Getting your mouth and your heart into agreement. Speaking the word. Standing in faith. The gift of healing. The gift of the working of miracles. The laying on of hands. Calling the elders of the church. I mean, there are so many different ways God has made the manifestation of healing available for us.
Amen.
So, in this book, they're learning these things. How how important is it not only in receiving it, but being able to give it out because so many believers they struggle with their own healing.
And then because they do, they absolutely obfuscate any kind of sense of that God could use them in healing and bring manifesting healing in other people's lives. So, why is it important for the body of Christ to get this message to be able to release it?
Well, when you really know that Jesus died to set us free, then when you're standing in front of a person that is afflicted, Yeah.
you really have a divine hatred for that affliction.
You know, the Lord spoke to me years ago and said compassion is a mixture of divine hate and divine love. Yeah.
It's a love for that person and a hate for what is against them. And when that divine love and divine hate mix, Yep. it creates a flow that sets people free.
That's so good. And when we stand in front of people knowing what the Bible says, Yeah. we want them to be well.
Yeah. God wants people to be well.
>> Yeah.
And if you look at life before the curse came, that's God's perfect will. Yeah. People were healthy.
People were blessed.
>> People were walking around naked. I mean, hey.
>> [laughter] >> So, when you look at when you look at what you're talking about 9, 10, 11, 12, those chapters, it's so important because if a person realizes what God's done for them, Would you say that again? I say when a person reads chapter 9, 10, 11, 12, and they realize what God has done in them and for them, and they receive it, it's like something happens in their authority.
When you look at not only your own body, you look at somebody else's and you're like, "Hey, this is no problem for God."
Because you healing is so much about a revelation of God's love as well. It's like his love of the cross, and like you're saying Isaiah 53, his love of the cross, what it enabled us to do. So, then compassion, I love your definition of compassion.
Hate and love mixed together cuz you hate what the enemy's doing, and because you know God loves them so much, you know that it's not a problem for God.
So, what have you seen when people get a hold of this message? How do they start operating in their authority differently? Well, the book just came out, but we're already getting a lot of responses. Good. People are just being set free in understanding Yeah.
the truth. Yeah. Understanding the truth. So good.
>> area where people need to understand the truth is about longevity.
I'm 68 this year.
Congratulations.
>> I look at some of my friends my age, Yeah. and they're checking out on life.
Wow.
>> is over to others. They are saying that they're done, they're too old, and I'm thinking, "What in the world are you talking about?"
>> getting started. I'm finally smart enough to get something done. Yeah, we finally know what we're doing.
And And you have to renew your mind to the fact God wants to use the latter part of your life to be the best part of your life. And the Bible is filled with examples of people who had longevity.
Yeah.
>> Now, you and Mike are young. Praise the Lord. Preach it, brother. Look at Look at what a future you have. By the time you get my age, your base is going to be so big, and your ability will be enormous.
And I just want to say to anybody watching online, don't check out because you're in your mid-60s. How silly. What are you going to do? Play golf for the rest of your life? Sit around and watch TV?
These should be the most productive years of your life. Amen. Now, let me ask you on this cuz I've um speaking of cuz it's healing and longevity, my mom actually was telling me about a message she watched of yours, and she was talking about >> Of mine? Yeah, about the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, and talking about you're actually in your 80s. It's your peak.
It's your peak.
That is totally different than most people in general and unfortunately Christians believe.
That is a phenomenal revelation. Why is it a peak? Well, if you look at all the research, people become heads of corporations in their early 70s.
Think about that. Wow. Almost all popes are in their 70s or their 80s. Yeah. I mean, you just go through the whole long list, presidents of countries. Yeah.
They're in their 70s.
They're They're really at their peak.
Now, if you've not used your mind and you've not taken care of yourself, you're going to get in trouble.
>> Yeah. But if you're a person that has used your mind, science really proves your peak years for your mind are between 70 and 80. That's amazing.
So, I haven't even entered my peak yet.
We're going to have like a 1,400-page book. Haha.
>> But you know, my prayer is to write a small book.
That's amazing. Well, you just roll out of bed and 700 pages will follow you.
>> [laughter] >> So, you're already receiving a lot of feedback from this.
>> We are. So, um how do you see people using it? Like, what is the most effective way you would encourage people to use this book? Well, that book has only been out a little over a week, and there are already multiplied thousands in the market. I'm so thrilled about it.
Here, I have never written a book for sales. Yeah, I think it's impure. Yeah.
I've just written a book for me first Yeah. because I want to know what I believe, Yeah. and then I want to share it with others. Amen.
>> But the responses so far has been that it's clearing up people's thinking.
Amen.
>> It's helping them to understand, you know what?
There's a lot of sick people in the body of Christ.
>> Yeah.
There really are.
>> And they just kind of succumb to the idea that, "Well, we know that Jesus died for that, but maybe we'll get it, maybe we won't." And they've kind of thrown in the towel. Yeah. And I think that this book is helping people pick the towel back up again So good.
>> and say, "I've got I'm in this for the long haul. I'm not going to finish until I receive what Jesus died for me for."
Do you feel, and we're kind of in our closing statements here, do you feel that heal uh sickness is one of the biggest tactics of the enemy in stealing people's purpose and calling? 100%.
Sure.
You know, when you don't feel good, You don't care.
>> And if you've ever been sick, I'm not I mean, it's very rare that I ever get sick, but if I ever have something that affects me, I realize it really is a thief.
Yeah.
>> Sickness is a thief.
It takes your joy, it takes your strength, it takes your money, it takes your time, it steals your your purpose. Yeah.
>> It is really a thief. Yeah. Well, you know, if any thief came into your house, I'm sure Mike would grab anything he could get his hands on.
>> Hey, this farm girl would go after it as well. I mean, you'd grab the pillow on the couch, you'd grab the local ball bat. I mean, anything you could get your hands on. And on the cover of that book, you see what's on the cover? Mhm. A medicine, Yeah. a emergency box, a Bible, scales, a measuring tape, and the cross.
I say use every tool in the box. I mean, grab anything you can to resist sickness Yeah. because God did not make our bodies to be sick. That's good.
>> And we've got to do everything we can to push it back across the line. Amen. But thank you for having >> Well, I believe that this book is not only going to set people free, they're going to walk in healing, they're going to be vessels and instruments of healing to others, but also we're going to see people step into their God-giving gifts and callings because sickness is not holding them back anymore. Amen. So, thank you Thank you so much for bringing this type of manual to the body of Christ to equip them. So, you're such a blessing.
>> you for my first interview with Keri Pickett.
Thank you for being uh one person that one I wanted to interview the very most, so I love you so much. Thank you so much.
