She Stayed Perfectly Still…Then THIS HappenedAdded:
Good day everyone. We have a brown snake on the move in Budroom and it's the afternoon shift at the moment. Um there's been a few snakes on the move today, but um this one I believe is near the front door and I think it's hiding under something, but they're trying to keep an eye on it as best they can. So uh I'm in bedroom at the moment, which works out well. So I'm going to race over and hopefully it's still there and we'll get it relocated away from their front door and whatever it's hiding under.
mate.
>> Hey, mate. How are you?
>> Oh, that's okay. What? Um >> That's all right. What kind of snake is it?
>> It's a light brown color.
>> Um and it's pretty small.
>> I'll give you that as well.
>> Thanks, mate.
>> Um I had a look on the internet. It could be an eastern brown. It could be something. I have no clue.
>> That's right. Yeah, I didn't get a photo of it.
>> It's under that pot.
>> This one just here.
>> And the front door, >> the pot was already on it hanging out.
>> Oh, okay. Yeah, >> bit of a gap underneath it. I come out and he was hanging out a bit and >> as I walked past underneath it.
>> I was just worried if it goes in the garage.
>> I'm just going to set this up as a bit of a >> Yeah. Yeah, sure.
So, not that it was directly underneath.
>> That's all right.
>> Oh, yep. He's still there.
Just trying to get grip on him. Yeah.
So, it's a beautiful yellowface whipnake.
>> Okay. So, it's nothing to be too worried about.
>> They are mildly venomous. So, this sort of thing could probably cause a little bit of damage to like a cat or >> Yeah, you got two cats and they wouldn't survive it cuz they >> But in saying that, like one of my staff got bitten by one one of these guys last season.
>> Okay.
>> And yeah, she ended up in hospital cuz she had a bit of a reaction to it. And yeah, so they're mildly venomous.
They're they're terrified of us. Um >> they're pretty quick to >> Yeah. Very hard to catch normally.
>> Good quick lips cuz he was just straight in underneath. Yeah, they're they're normally really hard to catch, but obviously this one's cold and hiding, so it was >> nice and easily. Thank Thankfully.
>> Glad you did it, mate.
>> Yeah.
>> All right. Nice easy one, which is good.
Um I was just explaining to the gentleman that yellowfaced whip snakes can be quite difficult to catch sometimes. They're probably one of the fastest snakes that we catch. Very evasive when they want to be. And usually we're trying to catch them in dense gardens or sort of rocky retaining walls or whatever where they got plenty of hiding spots to go to. So I was very thankful that the snake was curled up basically asleep underneath that pot in quite a wet damp area. I remember it was quite cold. So it's quite, as you can see in the video, it's quite hard to pick up for some reason. Maybe it's just my fat fingers. I don't know. Um but anyway, uh we will go find a nice spot to let it go. It's a nice sunny day, so hopefully the snake realizes this and can go warm up.
There you are. Such beautiful snakes.
Look at that glistening coppery color on the back. Primarily eating skinks in your backyard. Obviously, you don't want to have a tussle with your pets or anything like that or the kids to pick it up, but otherwise, such a beautiful snake.
Off you go, buddy.
>> We're just on our way to a body corporate uh facility or villas or town houses, whatever you want to call them.
Uh we go to plenty of these uh these areas where there's lots of buildings close together, lots of gardens, and often surrounded by bush. So, perfect spot for snakes to come in. I'm not sure exactly what the go is, but they sounded a little bit urgent. So, we're racing over there now. And hopefully the snake is just sitting there for us and we can relocate it safely.
>> I'd expect it to be just sitting in the sun or >> I think that's what it was doing. It was >> still might be in here cuz it's pretty thick.
>> I haven't for a few weeks not been disturbed.
>> Yeah.
How long ago was it seen?
>> Um, it was here at about 10ish because we went off for breakfast.
>> Okay.
>> No, it came straight out.
>> Oh, here it is.
Look at that.
>> Hey, little fella.
>> It's lucky I see big.
>> No, but certainly not want something you want the kids playing with or anything like that. And I'll find somewhere nice for him. So, >> healthy little thing. Very pretty pattern. Isn't this beautiful?
>> All right, buddy. I'm glad I found him.
>> Found himself a good little hiding spot there behind the pot plant.
>> Yeah. And there's probably small pets and stuff around here, too, I'm sure.
>> Beautiful. Well done.
>> Glad we found it. That's the main thing.
>> We might just get back out the back way here.
>> Okay then.
>> No worries.
>> Thanks for coming around. All good. Have a good day.
>> Yeah, same for you. Hope you're not pulled out again.
>> Oh, I'd like to get a little bit of work today. It' be nice, but >> All right, little dude. Off you go.
All right, we are back with the night shift.
We have quite a large carpet python. I think it's sitting in a lady's roof or on top of the roof or the gutter or something like that. But apparently it's got a big food item and the lady's she's a bit elderly. She's fairly panicked. I think she's called and rang the team three or four times in the uh 15-minute drive to the house. So, you know, the fear in some people is legitimate. It's real. Um we understand that. I'm doing my best to get there as quick as possible. Um cuz yeah, you know, not everybody loves snakes like we do. Um and for some people, um like this lady in particular, she's absolutely terrified. So, uh, I'm going to do my best to catch it as quickly and safely as possible. We've just been dowsted with rain, so it's going to make things a bit slippery. Hopefully, I don't have to actually get up on the roof and can reach it with my ladder. But, um, yeah, see how we go.
Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> A decent feed, too.
>> Yeah. Okay.
right there.
>> So, it's around this other side.
>> David, can you just pick that up? Yeah.
Right there. There you go.
>> Oh, where are you trying to go?
Okay.
>> Yeah, he's trying to get in the roof.
He's about to back out.
>> About to >> back out.
trying to go down.
>> Yeah.
>> Sorry, I'll shut up.
>> No, that's all right. It's all good.
Sorry. I'm just letting him come out.
So, it looks like Yeah, it's some sort of food item.
He's tried to get in the roof, but now he's backing out.
>> Possibly.
We've got a tree frog about as big as my fist.
>> Yeah. Okay. No, it's definitely bigger than that.
>> Yeah, it doesn't look too big.
>> Small child.
>> So, I don't I want to let the snake come all the way out cuz as soon as I grab it, it might actually go try and get back in the roof.
So, while it's just coming out itself, I'll um So, now I'm >> Yeah, I want to be careful too cuz I don't want to hopefully just sits on the hook nicely here.
cuz I want to support that belly as soon as I can.
So, I'll get him down in the ground.
There we go. Beautiful snake. Nice and healthy. And yeah, definitely got some sort of food item. It's actually got a little um stubby tail, too.
>> But we'll try and get it in the bag without annoying it too much.
Hey, there's a you go. There you go. Go in the bag.
There you go. Oh, there you go. You're right. There's a nice dark area for you.
That worked out quite well.
>> How big was >> um snake itself's probably only about 5 6t, but definitely nice and healthy. And um that food item is going to do it a whole lot of good as well. So, but all right, safely transported the snake.
Out you come, buddy.
Come out.
Come on.
I know.
You're right. Let me just pull you out. There you go.
Oh, you Which way you going?
So, there's that food item.
Probably a small pawsome. See like the back legs or the front legs there.
Should be the front legs cuz it would have swallowed it that way. And the back legs there.
So that meal there will keep this snake happy for at least a week. A little stubby tail there that's healed quite nicely.
And then off into the bush it goes.
Obviously having a food item like this can slow them down a little bit.
That's why sometimes they can regurgge it if they feel threatened. But that's why we want to be so gentle with them, especially when we're transporting him and relocating them. That's why I want to get him down off the roof as quick as possible.
Such a cool part of our job is letting the snakes go back in the bush.
See you later, buddy.
We're on our way to one of our regular customers. Uh they've got a snake on the move which they're keeping on and I'll do my best to uh obviously catch it. But I just want to touch base on something basically regarding the fact that we're 24/7 and you know we obviously charge extra for after hours and there's good reason for that. Obviously being after hours 24/7 service we drop everything literally at the drop of a hat to come out and help you guys and help whoever needs us. For example, tonight um I was meant to have the night off. It's been a pretty slow day today because of the weather and of course in true snake catching style.
Four jobs all on the Sunshine Coast come in at the same time within like 15 minutes. So Heather's gone to two, Justin went to one and I'm going to another. So no more night off for me.
But that's fine. It's all that's what I signed up for. And I was literally about to take the first bite of the most delicious potatoes that my wife had put together.
Oh jeez, that look good. I like boiled and then like pan fried. So like fluffy and crispy and golden brown. Anyway, I literally like grabbed one and ran out with it because I wanted to have one. So it's all part of the job. We're used to it, but it just reiterates on top of all the other reasons why you charge a fee, the fact that we literally whatever we are doing in the shower, on the toilet, about to eat dinner, we do our best to stop what we're doing as quick as possible and we come out and we help.
So, yeah, let's see how we go.
Whereabouts.
>> All right, just stand nice and still.
Throw through your legs. Well done.
Let's do nice and still.
That literally went straight through your legs. Lucky >> I didn't look down.
Holy.
>> Where'd he come out of that garden there?
>> Yeah. Oh, he was just there.
>> Oh, in the corner of the cheeky bugger.
Hey, don't do that. All right.
That's crazy. Straight through your legs.
>> There might be another one, but I'm not sure.
>> All right. Chuck him in there. So, do you think there's one inside? Yeah, in this room.
>> So, who saw that one?
>> Um, we did and the other carers.
>> Was it the same size or No. Okay. Yeah, I'll go have a look in the room.
>> All right. That was wild. So, we had one of the snakes go through the customer's legs, which obviously isn't ideal, but it just came out of the garden and I was nowhere near it, so we didn't think the snake was there and it's just come out of the garden. And there it was. And then they thought they had a second snake inside and we weren't sure whether it was the same snake that had got back outside cuz it was literally like probably 10 m from this location, but turns out there was a snake inside. I stopped filming, but both of them are here. So, we're going to let them go.
There they are. Little fella and a bigger one. Off that one goes. And off that little fella goes. So, that was in behind a cupboard in one of the uh residence rooms. I don't think a service gets much quicker than this. I'm literally about 3 minutes from this job.
So, that's about as quick as it gets.
But, it is a snake on the move. So, I'm glad I'm not too far away. I think it's trying to get inside their house, apparently. So, we're going to get there in now 1 minute and catch it and relocate it elsewhere. Oh, there he is.
I see him already.
>> Good day, mate.
>> How are you? I see it.
>> There he is. I wonder what he's waiting for. Might be waiting for a rat or something.
>> He was going halfway up the window.
>> Yeah, right.
>> Little B went out to the bin. indicate there's a snake outside.
>> Sure there is.
>> That would have been a bit of a surprise.
All right. Hey, buddy. How are you?
>> Just used to watching the content on social, man.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Last few years before I moved up here.
>> Yeah.
All right. Now you get it. Now you get to see it live. Okay.
It's pretty um pretty healthy thing.
>> Yeah.
>> In good condition. probably about I'd say 3 or 4 year old.
>> Okay.
>> So, they get massive. Obviously, they get to over 3 m long, >> a fair bit thicker than this. So, he's probably hanging out here. There might be the odd rodent or something run along here maybe. And he might have been on the scent trail or >> Okay.
>> Something like that. But >> you said normally they're um >> what's going on down here? So, see how he's got a lump there on his >> might just be an old injury or a deformity or something that it might have been born with, but the snake otherwise is in good condition.
>> Pythons in this area.
>> Yeah, lots of pythons. Um, tree snakes, keelbacks.
>> Pretty rare that we get a venomous snake in Budum. Oh, no, no, sorry, that's a lie. We get yellowface whip snakes.
Heaps of those. But they're mildly venomous. So what I meant was um highly venomous snakes. So I've only caught like three or four >> um eastern browns in the last 12 years.
Um >> red bellies I've only caught like maybe two or three.
>> Yeah. Okay.
>> And that's out of thousands of snakes in Budroom. So >> it's main yeah majority of car pythons and then yeah whip snakes, tree snakes, killbacks. So >> Okay, you come.
There he comes.
