In NCAA baseball regional tournaments, teams compete in bracket-based formats where the winner advances to face the winner of another regional in a super regional, with the eventual winner advancing to the College World Series. West Virginia, as the 16th national seed, demonstrated how a lower-seeded team can overcome a higher-ranked opponent through effective pitching (Chance Cole's 6 innings, 10 strikeouts, 1 run allowed) and timely offense (Matthew Gralin's 2-run home run and Ben Lumsden's 3-run home run), ultimately winning 10-1 in Game 2 of the Morgantown Regional.

2026 Morgantown Regional - Game #2 West Virginia vs. Binghamton live play-by-play commentaryAdded:
All right, Mountaineer Nation, thanks for tuning in to this live webcast commentary of the Morgantown Regional Game Two between our beloved West Virginia Mountaineers and the Bingmpington Bearcats. I'm Carson Fox and you are live here from my man cave as I'm getting set up here. Uh, got my nice handy dandy scoreboard over here so keeps track for you and got my all of my notes for tonight's ball cast or broadcast. So, right in front of me, I have my You can't see it. I do have the ESPN broadcast which is awaiting first pitch here in a couple of minutes. So, I just figured while I get started here, see if anybody trickles into the live chat. Please feel free to leave your live chats either, you know, now throughout the broadcast. We're going to be tuning in for about three hours. So, get your favorite beverage, get your favorite snacks. We're going to be talking a lot about West Virginia baseball, specifically this game as the 16th seated national um 16th national seed West Virginia Mountaineers look to start off their regional run, their fourth consecutive regional appear appearance in a regional and route to hopefully an Omaha Nebraska College World Series appearance. So, I I'm excited. Let's go through the uh batting lineups for both teams as just checking Twitter just a little bit ago uh had had a first draft of what I thought the uh batting order was going to be for both teams based upon their last batting orders and their respective conference championship game. So batting lead off for West Virginia is going to be Matt Inish, the sophomore at shortstop. Uh batting second will be sophomore catcher Gavin Cal Gavin Kelly. Uh, at batting third, the center fielder, Paul Shoenfeld, a senior. Batting fourth, Sean Smith, the senior DH. Batting fifth, the senior left fielder, Matthew Gralin. Batting seventh, the junior first baseman, Armani Guzman. Batting seventh, Brody Cresser, the senior second baseman. The big switch for tonight's broadcast or tonight's game in right field, instead of Brock Wills starting in right field, it's going to be Ben Lumsden once again for the Mountaineers. Uh so he'll be batting in the eighth hole, batting just 212 on the season. Uh but he's getting the start over Brock Wills. And then on the batting ninth as he's done all season long, Tyrus Hall, the junior third baseman, um who's done a really good job for the Mountaineers that this year.
Starting pitching for your beloved Mountaineers um is Chance Cole. Cole comes into tonight's ball game with an eight-1 record and 80 innings pitched, 304 erra, 8-1 win loss record, two 212 batting average against uh first team all Big 12 conference member, and he is uh getting the start after starting game two of West Virginia's Big 12 uh tournament run last week in Arizona against the Sunundevils of Arizona State. He'll be opposed by Connor Griffin of Bingmpington, the fourth seed in this regional, the champions of the American East Conference. Griffin is three and three on the season. He's a second team all uh American East Conference member, 65 200B righty out of Clark Summit, Pennsylvania, Abington Heights High School. He's a junior. 57 and a3 innings pitch on the season with a 487 erra, a 1uh 61 whip, 62 strikeouts to 40 walks and nine walks uh nine hit by pitch hit batter hit batsman on the season in the lineup for his Bearcats who are 31 and 20 on the season, 17-7 in conference play, 14-13 on the road. uh and come into tonight's contest as the team in the national RPI 118th. So, just to give you a little bit of context on West Virginia's opponent, Bingmpington is coming into this contest uh with an RPI lower than Houston, who did not make the Big 12 tournament, who comes in at 107th. That's not to say that West Virginia should be taking Bingmpington lightly. No, in fact, they should lock it in and hopefully pummel these Bearcats on this day. Uh but we'll see what happens. Stranger things have happened like uh Milwaukee Wisconsin was up 10 to nothing on topseated Auburn the hosts uh in Auburn uh Alabama. Let's go through the lineup for the Bearcats.
Leading it off um sophomore right fielder Brilan Gonzalez the second team all uh AE and in the two-hole Shawn Sweeney. He's coming up as the second baseman. Hold on. I got to turn my volume down on my TV.
Sorry, didn't it was the broadcast finally tuned in. So, Sean Sweeney will be in the two-hole for um for for Bingmpington playing second base 360 on the season. Matt and Bolton will be in the three-hole. Center fielders. Can't wait to talk about Matt Balden. Really does it all for this uh Bingmpington squad. And the four-hole cleaning up Tommy Pop off the catcher. Uh first team all conference as well. Uh in the five hole, Zack Kent playing left field at first base. In the sixth spot is Steven Cross or Krauss. In the seventh hole, designated hitter Zack Anderson. In the eighth spot, Mike Stelch, the shorts stop. And in the ninth spot at third base is Tim Henning, who was also on the second team all-American East Conference. So once again, if you're just tuning in, just coming after here five o'clock. Thanks for tuning in to game uh a live playbyplay commentary webcast of game two of the Morgantown regional between our West Virginia Mountaineers and the Bingmpington Bearcats. And the uh ESPN Plus broadcast is finally on. So you get if you want to mute your televisions to listen to me.
Would love to have your chats in the comments here. Thanks for uh tuning in, Coupe. Uh let with the let's go.
Hopefully more Mountaineer fans get in here as the the clock strikes five and we have first pitch in Morgantown. So once again, if you're if you're just tuning in, I guess the big news going into this contest, Ben Lumston substituting in for Brock Wills out in right field, going to be batting eighth in this contest. So let's go through once again with uh the matchup. West Virginia 39 and4 overall record this season second in the Big 12 conference 21-9 in with their conference record 16-6 at home hosting their second ever regional in program history going back uh their first regional year was 2019 the Alec Manoa team that I just absolutely loved this day got to interview Alec Manoa with my former organization uh Pony Baseball had he played in the Bronco World Series whenever he was a kid. So, it was awesome to get to meet him. But the the turnaround of this program over the last decade, incredible. Uh West Virginia has had a 2017 uh regional appearance in the Wake Forest regional in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Wake West Virginia might be facing Wake Forest at some point in this tournament. That very interesting. Uh unfortunately, Daniel, thanks for tuning in. No, I can't show the game because it is an ESPN broadcast and copyright. So, if I show the game simultaneously, my stream will get shut down. That's why I couldn't do it whenever I did the the live webcast playbyplay of the Texas Tech football game back in the fall. So, this is kind of the best I can do. I will do my best to describe the action for you. Got the score right here. Um, so my best thing if you want to watch but you don't want to listen to the guys giving the broadcast, put them on mute and tune in to me and I love to have your uh comments as the game goes along.
So talking about West Virginia's now 17th uh baseball regional appearance, second time ever hosting now four consecutive seasons. 2023 West Virginia went down to Lexington to take on Kentucky.
Unfortunately it was a poor showing in that 2023 regional appearance. of course won in 2024 in Tucson, Arizona, beating Dallas Baptist and Grand Canyon in route to the super regional level against North Carolina. 2025 last year went down to Clemson, South Carolina, beat Clemson, ble beat Kentucky, faced off against LSU in the supers, and now finally hosting. All right, so back on the broadcast after a quick commercial break, and I am loving what I'm seeing from the crowd in Morgantown.
people all filling up and down the uh right field lines. Wonder if West Virginia within the first couple of innings if there will be an announcement on an attendance figure. West Virginia's single game attendance record 4,629 against Pit in 2025, the backyard brawl.
So, we'll see if West Virginia can do it in this day. Tickets rather expensive.
Talked about that on a video earlier this uh week. Thanks Daniel for your comment. UCLA tied at two in the bottom of the sixth. I wonder what happened with Auburn. I know they were down 10 to nothing to UW Milwaukee earlier today.
So that's why West Virginia cannot take this uh Bingington team lightly whatsoever. I'm really thankful. Um I I I do like the matchup uh pitching matchup decision by uh coach Sabins with going with Chance and Cole made a lot of sense when I I thought about the management of it. I went back um took a look at the numbers because I was kind of getting on co coach Sabins for you know pooling Cole early I thought uh against ASU last week. Had his shortest outing since March 20th when he only threw 67 pitches in three innings against BYU. Went five just 67 pitches against Arizona State. But now with solid what? Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Five days worth of rest. Chancing Cole's going to take the rubber. Just a sophomore. It blows my mind of how good he's been this season.
First team all big 12, eight and one on the year. First pitch is a strike by Cole. Oh, I'm seeing some empty seats behind home plate watching this ESPN plus broadcast. But anyway, delivering to Brillin Gonzalez. This is a sophomore laden Bingmpington team as the pitch goes outside evening the count at one and one. Just goes to show that Bingmpington is on the way way up as a program in the American East Conference.
Uh Brilan Gonzalez 59 sophomore from Liberty High School ball down low to Gonzalez by Cole. Uh loved hearing the news the interesting stat um and found this out on their website doing the research for this broadcast about Bingmpington. Uh, I'll talk about that in just a second. Two to one delivered down to third base. Hall scoops it off the turpp. Easy throw over to Guzman for the five to3 out.
Chance and Cole makes easy work of Brilan Gonzalez. But yeah, learning a little bit about this Bingmpington team in 2020. They received an anonymous and I know that's not people know who it was but didn't want his name attached to it.
$60 million gift, the largest in university history to renovate their baseball complex was which was completed in March of 22. And now Sean Sweezy Sweeney coming up to the plate for Bingmpington, the second baseman, who was uh the leader in the American East Conference with a 360 uh batting average.
um wait missed 14 games the earlier this season or otherwise his numbers might have even been better. West Virginia or Bingington's toughest out. Mike Sweeney here chops down on a grounder to Inishes at shortstop. Ball over to first base.
Easy 6-3 put out. Nice work by Chansen Cole. Very efficient. Seven pitches so far. Yeah, going back to what I was talking about. So now Steve Sabin said in one of his um press conferences media scrums earlier this week, this is just really the manifestation of now Bingmpington with incredible top-notch Northeastern facilities. Similarly to West Virginia on just a bit of a smaller scale. Got to take a virtual tour of their baseball facilities. Extremely impressive. Matt Bolton stepping up to the plate now for the Bearcats. Center fielder. 349 batting average, six home runs, 44 RBI's, first team all-American East Conference player, bats from the left side, shot through the um the shift in between the shortstop inish and the second baseman, uh Cresser in between those two guys into shallow right center field. So, he'll be credited with a single.
Cole's first hit allowed of the ball game on on nine pitches.
So, two outs, no score here in the top of the first with a runner on first base. Bringing up Tommy Popoff, who is the the team leader in third in the American East Conference with 52 RBI's on the season, seven home runs, 291 batting average. Pickoff attempt from Cole over to first base with Bolton on first.
Out of the stretch, Cole on a slider at 79 miles an hour gets Pop off to swing at that pitch.
Not a lot of uh batting average that pop pops off the page from this um Bingmpington lineup, but everybody's got a few home runs.
Sweeney and Bolton are really the two two hitters in the lineup you really worry about potentially. A lot of runs batted in. So manufacturing runs is the name of the game for this Bingmpington squad. Same with West Virginia. 02 count now on pop off. Top of the first, two outs, runner on first base.
And here's Cole with the delivery.
Gets him to swing. Strike three. Inning over. There go the Bearcats.
No runs on one hit, no errors, and one man left on base. That is the uh Now we'll bring the Mountaineers to bat. No score in Morgantown.
Beautiful day in Morgantown. Sunny and 75, maybe even a bit warmer. um with how rainy it's been for May. This is some of the best weather of these last several days. So, a little bit more about Bingington, getting to know like who the heck are these Bingmpington bear uh Bearcats. Where even is Bingington, New York? If you go up Interstate 81, so think Scranton, Pennsylvania. Just go right up over the border across the Pennsylvania North New York border, you'll reach Bingington. Their main campus is in Vestal, New York. In 1946, they were founded as Triple Cities College, a satellite jo's rivals, Syracuse University. In 1950, Bingmpington split from Syracuse, became Harper College, and then eventually in 1965 became part of the State University of New York system. So, Sunni Bingmpington really is their true first name. 18,652 undergraduate and post-graduate students. They have 21 sports, part of the American East Conference since 1979 alongside Albany, Bryant, Maine, UNMBC, UMass, LOL, uh, New Hampshire, NJIT, and Vermont. So, starting it off for West Virginia, Matt Inish, the sophomore shortstop, 304 batting average, four home runs, 35 RBI's, the team leader in runs scored with 55 on the season. And I'm looking for Matt Einish really here to have a like bounceback series. Was only two for 13 with a walk in the Big 12 tournament out in Surprise, Arizona.
Hopefully getting back to the friendly confines of Morgantown, sleeping in his own bed that he starts to heat up in this series. Thought perhaps that West Virginia might go with Armani Guzman who's just really heated up now to a 290 average. Had a great um series in the Big 12 tournament if there potentially could be a switch there. But head coach Steve Sabin sticking with the traditional lineup and they'll go against Connor Griffin. The second team all-American East Conference, the ace for the Bingmpington Bearcats comes in 6'5, 200 pounds. The junior out of Clark Summit, Pennsylvania, 57 and third innings pitched on the season with a three and three overall record, 62 strikeouts to 40 walks and nine hit batsmen with a 487 erra to 161. So just the contrast, Cole coming into the game with a 304 ERA. Griffin coming in with a 487. So hopefully West Virginia can jump on this pitching staff, perhaps chase Griffin out of the game early. Pitches out of the stretch and he'll throw a 96 mph fast ball outside for ball one. Do love Matt Inish's approach. Has one of the best eyes on the team. He doesn't get rattled. He doesn't chase a whole often. And here's the pitch by Griffin as he swings and fouls one back. He doesn't chase bad pitches. Sometimes he takes too many good pitches for my liking, but man, uh, the kid will see pitches. He's going to work the count.
And now seen two fast balls over 95 miles an hour by Griffin as there's the breaking ball outside.
Could close pitch, but Inish decided I'm going to lay off on this one. So two and one the count, no score here in game two in Morgantown and swung on. Hard hit ground ball to the shorts stop. Stell over to first Krauss for the 63 put out.
One out. Now up comes Gavin Kelly, the Golden Spikes finalist. First team all Big 12 uh catcher. can also play a little second base, but a lot of catcher down the stretch here in May. 379 batting average, 13 home runs, 48 RBI's for Kelly, and did pretty well out in surprise last week. Had a home run in West Virginia's first game against Stan State as he fouls off the first pitch he sees.
Griffin sure can buzz him. 96 mph fastball. That's the third I've seen so far of his five pitches. Gavin Kelly, not too far, hometown not too far from me. North Alagany High School, powerhouse out of the WPI.
And here's the pitch right on the outside corner. Kelly takes for strike two with one out.
And coming set is Griffin out of the stretch with a breaking ball.
Gets Kelly looking. That was a very unconventional, irregular at bat.
Never looking comfortable on that was Gavin Kelly. Griffin locked in here through six pitches.
Griffin's longest outing of the season only went six innings.
a lot of, you know, short innings.
Hopefully West Virginia can start to work him into deeper counts. Here's Paul Showfeld with a shot right up the middle. Love that by Paul.
Yeah, baby.
Ah, beautiful. Hopefully he gets hot in this tournament. It was a challenging tournament for showing felled out in surprise. Two for 11 with a double. Did have a walk. Uh just uh but man, if he can heat up here in Morgantown as they're showing a nice crowd shot here on ESPN Plus. Beautiful weather seats or people filling in down there on the left field lawn section bringing up Shawn Smith now. Two outs. Bottom of the first inning. Griffin now eight pitches in. He picks off. Tries to get Shenfeld over at first base. Smith comes into today's contest. A 325 average, eight home runs, 45 RBI's. The designated hitter, senior transfer from Georgia Southern University, who is blistering hot. Showfeld takes second. All right. Challenging pop off there with a really I mean, good pitch.
Wasn't a breaking ball. Um maybe just a little bit of an off speed with a change up, but Pop Off with a good throw.
Showing felt even looked back at him, made it easily in there for the stolen base. He's tough, man. Uh asks for time.
I don't know if he's got something in his eye or something as he trots back over to the dugout and takes his helmet off. Anyway, back on uh Sean Smith, six for 11. He was hot, man. He was on the all tournament team. If West Virginia would end up winning the Big 12 championship, I would have given Shawn Smith the MVP. Six for 11 with a double, three runs scored, stolen base. He was the hardest out of the West Virginia lineup in in Surprise. So, let's see what he does here at home in the regional. One 01 the count. Showfeld on second base with two outs. Thanks for tuning in here to game two of the Morgantown Regional. Feel free to drop your comments how you're feeling about this game and questions in the chat.
And on an now 02 offspeed pitch low and away down to Shawn Smith. He looks to check back in gets situated.
Little bit of a shift. No, no, just the the second baseman Sweeney covering him.
Swing and a miss by Shawn Smith. He's tagged by Pop Off for the third out of the inning. So, Mountaineers leave one in uh scoring position, showing felt at second. No runs on one hit, no errors as we go to the top of the second inning with no score in Morgantown.
West Virginia since 2020, 228 wins. That was 12th most among the 16 regional hosts for this year. Goes to show West Virginia is in some incredible company.
228 wins puts them behind just three of Mississippi State who's won a national or competed for a national championship.
Alabama with 233.
Then UCLA who's the nation's number one seed at 236.
Seventh Georgia 242. Sixth Oregon 246.
Fifth Texas A&M 248. North Carolina 257.
in their fourth. West Virginia, remember, played them just two seasons ago in the super regional round and had a first round draft pick on their team.
Then Florida, who's won national championships at 264. Texas, who used to be a Big 12 um you know, perennial Power at 273 wins and then Southern Miss out of the um what was it? Conference USA or the Sun Sunb Belt uh at 279 wins. So, just goes to show that since this uh um now Kendrick family ballpark opened in 2015, that West Virginia is an upand cominging n national program, four straight regionals. Head coach Steve Savvens talking about adding seats, expanding the ballpark. Uh it's an exciting time for this program to host this regional. So, top of the second, Zack Kent to the plate, the left fielder.
Kent batting 248 on the season with just one home run and 20 RBI's.
He got uh Bingington started in the American East Championship game against Maine with a solo home run.
Hopefully he stays quiet here against Chansen Cole who throws a close pitch called a ball. One and one. 14 pitches now.
No score in Morgantown.
swung on, hit hard down the line, hits the wall at 325 ft. Trotting into second for the standup double is Zack Kent.
That's now Chance and Cole's second hit allowed of the game.
Just too good pitch. Kent turned on it.
Great torque on that swing. Pounded it over Tyrus Hall's head. Now he doesn't he's Why did he slide?
does a little dance and he'll be in there for the leadoff double. Just his fifth double on the season. He calls time. Coming up to the plate now. The uh first baseman. Oh, I'm sorry. It wasn't Kent who did it. It was Steven Cross. Uh Krauss, who's now up to the plate, the first baseman. 200 275 batting average, six home runs, 35 RBI's. He's the one who hit the solo shot uh to start off Bingington scoring in the American East Championship game last week against Maine. No outs top of the second, no score.
Cole out of the stretch throws a ball inside that gets past Kevin Gavin Kelly back to the back stop and that'll move Kent up to third base.
Little bit I don't know leth lethargic.
I don't know if that's the right word.
Laxidasical there by Gavin Kelly, but a little bit of an inside pitch. Didn't get his body in front of it, turned his glove, got by the glove and trundles back to the back stop. Um, man, Gavin Kelly is an a sensational catcher. That was just a little bit uncharacteristic like of him to let that ball get to go to the back stop. Pitch down at the knees on a breaking ball to uh Krauss.
Two and one in the count with Kent on third base. Top of the second in Morgantown.
Cole's pitch close called a strike.
Krauss kind of backed out of the batters box thinking it was going to hit him.
Instead, evens the count at two and two, no outs.
Yeah. Um Daniel, they're they're showing the the score bug for um two to two now in the seventh with UCLA.
Hopefully, yeah, they show more regionals across the country. Uh Kentucky defeating Wake Forest in game one that started at noon earlier today.
So, the winner of this contest moves on to face Kentucky tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
Loser gets Wake Forest at noon in an elimination game. Cole's pitch inside swung on and Krauss is down on strikes for the strikeout. Second K for Cole and that was nice to have. Now one out bottom or top of the second, no score.
Zack Kent leading off the inning with a double. A shot over Tyrus Hall at third base that hit the pretty much the uh the foul line out there in right the right field or left field fence.
Pass ball by Gavin Kelly gets Kent to third base.
And now is the designated h hitter, Zack Anderson, taking that first pitch strike with a runner 90 ft from home to score the first run of the ball game. Anderson uh uh from Tmacula, California, a junior, Tmacula Valley High School.
Hall comes home and he's out. Oh, called safe. Wow. the homeplayed umpire. Kelly immediately goes to his ears, wanting the review.
A moderately hit ground ball to Tyrus Hall was Zack Anderson. Kind of double clutched on the throw. I don't know why he didn't just immediately throw. Wanted to see if uh Kent would take off for home, but the ball definitely beat uh the ball beat Kent to the plate.
and we'll get an official review.
Moderately, yeah, double clutch there by Hall. He throws in and I think that was clear as day that Kelly was out.
Oh no. Okay.
Yeah, Hall kind of double clutched on the throw. a high tag on Kent's left shoulder. Appears as if Kent got his left uh hand with one of those sliding mits on him just beyond Gavin Kelly's tag.
And wow, West Virginia was the benefactor of one of these bang bang plays in the Arizona State game uh by Armani Guzman last week.
Now it looks as if Bingington is going to come through with the first run of the ball game.
So Anderson will make it to first.
I don't know how you how you score that.
Um fieldielder's Yeah, Fielder's choice if he's out.
We're getting a long review by the by the crew.
Yeah, bit of a high tag by Kelly. It Oh, man. It's tough. I I don't know if there's going to be conclusive evidence to overturn this call unless West Virginia just gets the power four conference uh benefit of the doubt here.
Anyway, it was very very close. really just consider it because it was wasn't a super I'll stay like moderately hit by Kent on the ground.
Hall double clutched then threw home and the Morgantown faithful need something to cheer about to get this game started. So hopefully that this will be an out call and it'll pump everybody up.
as my papers went flying on that play. I can't believe we got a safe call. But, uh, thanks for tuning in everybody to this live webcast commentary.
Love to have you a subscriber to my channel. If you love West Virginia football, basketball, and baseball. I know there are a lot of West Virginia YouTube accounts out there, but try to do the best I can with uh commentary videos once a week on everything going on in the crazy world of college athletics following uh all of the action in WVU sports and other college sports news. And it's called say the official call safe at home. So, Fielders Choice scores the run by Zack Kent with an RBI.
by Zack Anderson.
So, one- nothing your score. Got to now go to the the scoreboard by Bingmpington in the top of the second, one out.
Runner on first base. That's Anderson bringing up the shortstop Mike Stelre to the plate who's just got a 200 uh 202 average, two home runs, 20 RBI's on the season. Senior from East Amhurst, New York, Williamsville East High School, bats left-handed. Here's Cole with a 101 count. Ball misses outside, evens it at 1 and one. So, as I talked about, out of this lineup, uh, yeah, out of this lineup, Bingmpington has two seniors, a junior, and the rest are sophomores.
So, there's a young club who if any of its players don't get picked off in the transfer portal or wanting to try and transfer up that if they all stick together, they could be back.
One and two, the count, one out. Cole now at 26 pitches. Nothing super to, you know, worry about. And you got to score at least one run to win a ball game. So high and outside. No harm, no foul. Just don't want this inning to turn into something wonky.
Stell wrecked a left-handed batter shortstop. You don't see too many. Well, I guess he throws right. You don't see too many left-handed shortstop out there. Pitch down in the dirt. Kelly blocks this one and it'll go full.
with one out.
You wonder if Anderson is running on the pitch.
Here's the pitch by Cole. Slap down the first base line. Foul.
Armani Guzman comes up with it. Let me let me ask you all in the chat. What did you think? safer out there on that play by Kent at home. Do you think Kelly got him in time? Did you think the tag tag was high on the shoulder? Should this still be a nothing nothing ball game?
What do you think? Love to throw it out there in the chat.
32 man on first for Stellact.
Ball's hot. Oh, and wait a second. Let's get the call by the homeplayed umpire.
But anyway, Zack Anderson. Oh, wow.
Strike them out. Throw them out. Stel looks at strike three at the letters.
Gavin Kelly throws out um throws out Zack Anderson attempting second base.
All right, make that a quick inning. Get out of there. Get back to the plate.
Let's score some runs, Mountaineers.
Oh, man. Good for Chance and Cole right there at the 30 pitch mark. No or one run on one hit.
No errors, no men left on base for Bingmpington in the top of the second.
We'll go to the bottom second now with the Mountaineers trailing one to nothing to the bad guys, the Bearcats.
What is a Bearcat? I've always wondered that about with Cincinnati. I have no idea. Is it a cross between a cat and a bear? I don't know. I'm just funny to me. Uh anyway, u I'll post that again for anybody who's just tuning in to this broadcast. Thanks for tuning in.
Now, as we've hit the 5:32 mark on Friday evening, what do you think? Safe or out there at home? Do you think the umpires got it right?
Uh I think it was really, really hard to conclude.
go with the evidence or, you know, do you have conclusive evidence to overturn the call on the field? I don't believe West Virginia had that. Uh, and had Tyrus Hall not double clutched on the throw, would have just picked the ball and threw immediately home. But again, trying to look back, the runner, noticing that he took off, that's why the double clutch came in was just a hair behind on that throw home. That's how Bingmpington's able to come up with it.
So, here's some of the news here in the um ESPN broadcast. Milwaukee University of Wisconsin Milwaukee the stunner today in the Auburn regional beating the host Tigers. I bet those fans are great going crazy. 14 ining game in the regional between East Carolina and Tennessee. in a two-3 matchup. That's a one4. I already mentioned Kentucky victorious over Wake Forest in game one as Connor Connor Kriffin is back out for work for the Bearcats here in the bottom of the second facing Matthew Gralin, the transfer from Ohio State. Senior batting.288 with five home runs and 31 RBI's.
He skies one out to left field. Sun in Kent's eyes, can he see it? comes down with the catch. Matthew Grlin. The first out of the inning for the Mountaineers in the bottom of the second.
Griffin can hurdle it, man.
Yeah, he he throws hard. Oh, yeah. Uh don't have a name here on the on the chat, but if West Virginia loses this game, dot dot dot. Yeah. Yeah. Let's not think about that. It's early. West Virginia is like a second half team if you want to give it the basketball and football terms. it it slow starts sometimes frustratingly with this squad as Armani Guzman steps to the plate who he's not frustrating he's absolutely red-hot uh he was a standout uh was a member of the all big 12 tournament team a week ago had a great series in Surprise Arizona we can recall how down the stretch of the regular season last year heading into the regionals he was the spark plug who came into the starting lineup toward the end stretch of the season started at third base. Hopefully he can do the same thing for this squad here in 2026.
Falls behind early 02 as Griffin's just throwing his 16th pitch. A flamethrower ball down in the dirt. Kind of overthrew that one. I feel like hit at the front end of the batter's box above the plate.
One and two the count, one out. Bottom second, Guzman. Oh, with Oh, man. Glad that he held off there.
Mississippi State beat Lipkcom 10 to one in the Starkville Regional, the nation's 14th seed.
Oh, LSU is your team, but now you're hoping West Virginia wins it all. I hope you came up with that fandom after last year's Super Regional game. is Guzman hits a sharp ball to the second baseman Sweeney throws it over to Krauss for the out. Four to three goes Guzman and West Virginia as it's done so many frustratingly times this season almost gets through the first round through the order with uh very quiet bats. Uh very like I said second half slow starting team and Griffin is throwing really well. Two outs. Bottom of the second.
Brody Cresser stepping up to the plate.
The right-handed hitter, graduate student from Jessup, Iowa. Transfer from the Jo level. Cresser 299 on the season now, upping his average. Two home runs, 30 RBI's as he takes a ball outside one and one.
He was blistering hot as well. Awesome in that super or uh in the Big 12 tournament last week. Four for 10. Two RBI's, two runs scored in a walk for the old Golden Blue. Him. Guzman, Gavin Kelly. He pops one up into center field.
That's Bolton.
And even though he's staring into the sun, makes the catch. The Mountaineers go down quietly in order in the bottom of the second. No runs, no hits, no errors, no men left on base. and we'll go to the top of the third with Bingmpington leading one to nothing.
Griffin now two innings pitched.
Very efficient pitching so far.
And we'll turn the the scorecard order with Tim Henning the nine hitter and back to the top of the order due up for Bingmpington.
Yeah, LSU unfortunately not making a regional this season. Hate to be the uh hate for the reminder there, but man, nation's number one team national champion not getting to a regional the second season. I'm sure you as a LSU fan not very happy with that one.
Back to Bingmpington. Bingmpington um is making its second consecutive regional appearance. In 2025, Bingmpington played in the Athens regional in Athens, Georgia. In Bingmpington's first game, it lost to Georgia 20 to4 and in its second game lost 13 to five against a Big 12 team, Oklahoma State.
Tim Siniki is Bingmpington's head coach.
He's in his 34th season. Man, that's a that's a long time in baseball. He's the longest tenure baseball coach at one school in division one. Uh started his playing career out at Bingington, finds his way back as a coach, has over 700 career career wins. He's a seventime American East coach of the year. This year he was the co- coach of the year with UNMBC's Liam Bowen Bowen. and his Bingmpington squads have been to seven NCA regionals before. So, this is a team who's had success had success uh as of late now with this new $60 million baseball complex that they have. Here's Cole pitching to Tim Henig, the third baseman, who's a second team all-American East um competitor this season. 289 average, three home runs, 34 RBI's. swings on, fouls it off down the left field line, evens the count at one to one.
Bingmpington up one to nothing, scoring in the top of the first inning when Zack Kent uh led off the inning with a double, moved up to third on a pass ball and then a fieldielder's choice play, Tyrus Cole coming home in a close call at the plate that went to official review. Kent slid under Gavin Kelly's tag and gave Bingmpington the first run of the ball game. 200 the count or 2-1 the count now.
Cole throwing his 34th pitch of the contest. Still okay. I always argue or when I was, you know, pitching back in uh my youth and high school career, um I like to stay around 15 pitches per inning. If I could stay at 15 pitches per inning, I'm on a nice trajectory to get into the sixth inning. And that's all that you ask about. Down the line, fair ball. outest Henig at the unassisted uh ground out to Armani Armani Guzman and we'll go back to the top of the order. So through the games or the first nine batters, it's been pretty solid work by Chance and Cole. Other than the um double down the line to Zack Kent, Matthew Bolton did uh shoot one through the shift, allowing two hits on the day with two strikeouts as Cole. his first pitch to Gonzalez who grounded out to third base to begin the game. His first time steps back up to the plate.
01 the count. Here's Cole with the delivery on the outer half of the plate.
Breaking ball taken for a strike.
Gonzalez, a lefty hitter.
Another one of the sophomore crew that I talked about earlier. Swung on in the dirt. Kelly chases him down the line over to first for the out. Goes a strike out. 23.
Cole's now third strikeout of the game.
And that'll bring Sweeney back up who grounded out to shortstop in his first appearance in the top of the first. came into today's contest as the the leading hitter from the American East Conference at the 360 average. Ball outside for Cole 1 and0 now two outs in the top of the third. One to nothing Bingmpington Sweeney a righty 88 mph sinker there by Cole. Man, that's a good pitch. I love that pitch by G uh Chance and Cole.
H thanks for your comment. But yeah, unfort unfortunately for LSU and one the count now for uh Chancing, but I'd still take a national championship. Like I wouldn't be complaining after after that one. Now two to two. Sweeney swung as hard as he can on that and Cole just blew it by him.
got that wide batting stance as Sweeney almost like a Jeff Bagwell from back in the day with the Houston Astros. Strike three. See youa there by Chansen Cole on the swinging strike out. He's pumped up now. His fourth of the contest into the third innings and on a nice trajectory of pitch count. Come on Mountaineers, let's get some hits. Go into the top or bottom of the third inning. Your score one- nothing Bingmpington.
as my uh friend mountaineer Paul would say. Segment two, time to crack a do.
I need a little something here for the throat doing all this talking.
Thanks for dealing with uh dealing with me in my uh my cough.
And I'm still just trying to kick even after a week's worth of antibiotics. But West Virginia back in a regional. 17th time in a regional, dating back to West Virginia's first ever baseball season in 1892. West Virginia first made what was at that point in time a district championship, District 3. In 1955, West Virginia made five appearances in a regional in the 60s. 61, 62, 63, 64, and then 1967.
Was a long a bit of a long drought in the 80s. 1985, 1987, West Virginia made a regional. Then in 1994, 1996, West Virginia was the Big East champs. And then another long, even longer drought, almost 20 years. It wasn't until 2017 when West Virginia got to the Winston Salem regional to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons who are now part of this Morgantown regional that they were back into it. So since 2017 uh one two three four five six regionals now three uh um and back-toback super regional appearances for this program.
Head coach Steve Sabins, who's just beautifully picked up the torch from head coach uh Randy Maisy, who retired a couple of seasons ago.
Yep. Thank you for your comment. 43 pitches through three innings. That's great. If you can stay on that 15 pitch per average, inning per pitch per inning average, uh that'll get you into the sixth inning and that's really what you ask for or deeper. So Ben Lumsden getting the start. He steps up to the plate over Brock Wills. 212 average. The senior takes a pitch outside one and or two and0.
I had Brock Wills is starting this on my first draft of my uh spotter board.
Check Twitter right with the lineup right before I started this broadcast to see Lumsden in and he fouls one off.
Makes sense. I I knew Sabins um he had a bit of a plan whenever he got the starts in the series against TCU a few weeks ago to end the regular season. Didn't see much of uh Lumsden. He played a little bit in the um Big 12 tournament last week, but Wills got a lot of the starts. Lumsden is a guy I root for um mainly because of what he did in that Clemson regional last year, coming through in the clutch uh with some really clutch hits. I know it was a very controversial decision by Steve Sabins to go with him over Grant Hussie, the program's leader in home runs, as he draws a walk outside. Let's see if that's what West Virginia needs to get going and tag some runs on Connor Griffin.
Lumsden very selective hitter.
Sometimes to his just like uh to Eish there's a fine line between taking good pitches and letting bad pitches go. That time it paid off for him. Draws the walk on Griffin. West Virginia gets a base runner now with Tyrus Hall. Bottom of the third, no outs, one run uh for Bingmpington. Tyrus Hall junior from the Jo level play starting at third base and it's really been a mainstay all season for this program uh for this team as the pickoff attempt goes way wide from Griffin over to Krauss over at first base. Hall with a 269 average, five home runs, 24 RBI's on the season.
Wouldn't it be nice for him to go yard here and give West Virginia a lead?
Squares the bunt, pulls it back.
Curveball taken high.
Little cat and mouse game action. Oh, final score from the Lawrence regional.
Kansas won its first game six to3.
Florida won uh 8 to7 over Ryder in the Gainesville regional.
Here's Hall squaring to bun against Griffin. Throws a strike right down the middle. Hall brings it back. Yeah, bit of a cat cat and mouse game. I don't know if this is West Virginia trying to shake Griffin's just rhythm that he's in, getting him to throw more pitches, or they truly do want to punt. Let's see what Hall does here.
Another pick off by Griffin. And that's got to get the uh old Golden Blue faithful heed up. What? Three, four pickoffs in this one at bat.
No outs.
Hall at the plate. The right-handed hitter from Canada takes another pitch high and inside for another strike. One and two count. Yeah, clearly that this is, you know, trying to get Griffin to throw pitches. As I've said, not the most efficient pitcher is Griffin. Hasn't gone any deeper than six innings all season long. Woo! Man, a wicked slider there. 89 miles per hour on the outer half. Hall swings through it for the strikeout.
Now three for Griffin on the contest.
First out of the inning for the Mountaineers. One- nothing Bingmpington with Lumsden on first base. Back to the top of the order goes Matt Inishes who grounded out to shortstop in his first bat in the bottom of the first. ball low and inside on Inish.
88 mile per hour uh off speed.
Yeah, Griffin 62 strikeouts on the season in 57 and a3 innings pitched, but had 40 walks and nine hit batsmen coming into today's contest. So, a 161 whip if you include the hits batsmen.
Whereas for Chance and Cole at a one two one whip, but he's pumping gas, y'all. 96. He's been consistent with that fast ball on the outer half. Fouled off there by Inish. Evens the count one to one.
Second team All-American or All-America East selection.
was third in the conference with those strikeouts, but with a 487 erra.
Be nice to score right here. Absolutely.
Sorry. Let me see what's the name. Carl.
Yeah, Carl. West Virginia needs it here.
Needs to take a lead. I'm tired of playing from behind in the these games.
Play with a lead. Oh, and I think Whoa.
Lumston picked off over at first base.
No, I don't know if he was just caught napping. Yep, just caught him leaning trying to get an extra step. Perfectly timed pick off there by Griffin Krauss with the tag in the face and he's out.
Two outs now for the Mountaineers.
Oh, from the un uncharacteristic pass ball on Gavin Kelly that leads to a run.
Pickoff plays.
Not a fun start for the Mountaineers.
Let's see what Inish does here. Two and two the count. Takes the ball low.
Borderline pitch.
One- nothing Bingmpington.
It's one of those borderline pitches that I don't know, man. I was I was a free swinger playing ball growing up. I don't know if I would be taking a pitch like that, but Inish does. Outside, draws the walk.
Now, West Virginia eating into Griffin's pitch count a little bit, throwing 38 pitches now, but still pretty decent.
He's looked excellent so far in this contest. Kind of reminds me a little bit of how Camden Wicker uh pitched for UCF in the night series in Morgantown earlier this season. He was awesome in that Sunday contest. West Virginia had no answer for him. Instead, here's Gavin Kelly back up to the plate who struck out looking in his first at bat against Griffin.
Ball in the dirt, blocked by Popoff.
Goes one and0 the count. One- nothing Bingmpington. Bottom of the third, on first with two outs.
Long stretch by Griffin.
Really deep, man. It's takes the pitch on the outside corner at 65200.
And with that long of a stretch position by Griffin, I mean, he's he's practically touching Kelly by the time the ball leaves his hand.
in the pitch inside. Looked as if it may have hit Kelly. He turned his shoulder just quickly enough to avoid it. Throw down to first base and pop off to Krauss. And Inish is in there. Easy. Two and one the count now.
You'd love to get Inish into scoring position for Kelly, but I would have liked a lot of things so far today. Fouled off guy go Kelly two and two evens the count.
Yeah, Brian. Uh yeah, I mean best best batting average on this team. Gavin Kelly now the number one projected pick uh prospect by Baseball America on next year's Major League uh draft class. He fouls one off. I I I didn't know he was going to be I I had a feeling that he was going to be good this season. I didn't know if he was going to be this good.
Felt just a hair shy of uh taking over Landon Haristen. And if Haristston wouldn't have hit so many bombs this season for Arizona State, Kelly had a nice argument for being Big 12 player of the year, offensive player of the year.
Max Yale getting pitcher of the year.
But we'll see what he does next year.
Excellent catcher, excellent defensive player, has showed some of that progressive power that I'd hope that he'd show this season with 13 home runs.
Here's Kelly. Takes a pitch. Griffin thought he got strike three. I don't think it was I don't think it was G example of Griffin kind of showing up the umpire or Kelly there.
Borderline pitch, but yeah, a bit a bit high.
Kelly takes it. Full count, two outs.
Inish on the go here on the pitch. Way up high and maybe this is the break that West Virginia needed right here. Backto back walks.
Now, Kelly on first, Inish on second, two outs. They're show I knew that ESPN was going to show the hillside and all the Mountaineer fans kind of camping out along the hill. Man, great contingency down the right field line on the banister and the standing room only sideline. That's where I'm saying down there past section 109. How many seats could West Virginia potentially add down the right field line? I I'm thinking if West Virginia could add another 500, West Virginia or Kendrick Family ballpark has 2500 seatbacks capacity 3500.
So, I like that look though down left field. If you're watching the ESPN broad uh plus broadcast, I love that look. I love that feel down left field line with the lawn seating. Families being able to bring in some strollers. Saw that during the TCU series and having a little girl.
I'd love to do that with my family. Uh, you know, even soon as next year, but I think you could put some seats down the right field line. Two outs. Here's Paul Showfeld who singled his last at bat.
Uh, has West Virginia's only hit of the ball game still so far now here in the bottom of the third. takes a strike.
Breaking ball in the outer half. Here's Griffin out of the stretch who's now at 46 pitches.
The pitch high and away evens the count at one and one.
Shenfeld came into today's contest with 350 batting average. So 29 points below Kelly. Been a bang up year for the transfer from the division 2 level.
Swung on and fouled off.
didn't know what West Virginia was going to get out of Paul Showfell, but really was a was a star allconerence player out there in Colorado. Comes to Morgantown and he's fit right in and been an incredible defensive player for the Mountaineers this season. Here's a pitch outside. I don't know if Griffin thought once again that he should have got that one, but no way outside. Couldn't have hit that with a 3-wood.
show and felt a lefty hitter. Good speed, good power, really a five tool player for the Mountaineers this season.
The pitch fouled off, evening the count at two and two with two men on, two outs here in the bottom of the third.
West Virginia, if it can just break it open, get this Mountaineer crowd ignited, they need something to get excited for.
Swung on. Oh, to right field. Oh, and camping under it is Gonzalez. Man, it looked really good off the bat. Oh, man.
If Lumsden wouldn't have got picked off.
H. Anyway, that'll end the inning for the Mountaineers and the scoring threat. No runs on no hits. Two runners left on base with no errors. We end the third with Bingmpington up one to nothing.
And for them, they'll have the heart of the order 345 coming up against Chance and Cole.
Ah man, that that that was that was a really left on that was a golden opportunity for West Virginia right there.
Um let me see Brian your comments here.
Thanks for your comments. Three in a row. Didn't know he was going to be that uh goatish like that one. Uh Shanfield hitting over 3. He was hitting exactly 350 coming in to today's contest. And that was the problem with West Virginia in that Big 12 championship game against Kansas. Left eight runners on base in that contest. You cannot as a squad h just killed me. Have bases loaded, one out in back-to-back innings and not score either time. That's what unfortunately derailed the Mountaineers in that Big 12 championship game last week against Kansas. I was really hoping West Virginia could, you know, get that one. Um, well, the Big 12 tournament's kind of been a house of horrors for the Mountaineers for the better part of a decade, but to win the first one against Kansas State, had that battle against the the home team in ASU, get to the championship game, ah man, for West Virginia to just kind of lay a goose egg and then it became a laugher nine nothing by the end of it. little disappointing, but you know, to come up with a host national 16th seed, be back in Morgantown for the fans, uh, that felt really good, even though if it didn't result in a trophy being held up.
So, Cole back on the mound, throws a first pitch for a ball outside. 44 pitches now through three three innings, top of the fourth. Matt Bolton, who had a single uh through the right side last in uh in the um excuse me, top of the first inning. He'll lead off who came into today's contest with 349 batting average. First team all-American East ball just below the kneecaps.
Called a ball 87 miles per hour.
Cole with the pitch. That one called a strike. Cole's best start of the year, May 2nd against Kansas State when he won a complete game, one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out nine on 120 pitches. West Virginia won that game 9 to1.
And a ground out to Matt Inish who was playing on the left on the right side of second base.
So 6-3 in the score book, but looked more like a routine ground out to or a ground out to who would be playing second base up near the third on the right side of second base into the shift. One out. Stepping up to the plate now is Pop Off takes the first pitch for a ball. pop off struck out swinging in his first at bat to end the top of the fourth.
Right down the pipe there is Cole. I just love how efficient Chansen Cole is.
He just he's a yman. He just gets up there, throws strikes, doesn't fool around. Love it. Ball out ball outside, check swing. Loved hearing what coach Sabin said. He didn't want to go so far with this, you know, hyperbolic language, but saying a miracle. I mean, they found Chansen Cole, uh, out of Boiling Springs, uh, South Carolina at Newberry College, who was a true freshman.
Like, they found him, love the v tape and video on him, bring him over to the Big 12, and he's a first team allconerence member. Ah, man. There's uh, Pop Off fouls it off. Kelly wishes he would have had it. Wish he would have squeezed that for the final strike of the at bat, but instead now 53 pitches.
Working fast is Chansen Cole as well.
Two and two the count against Pop Off with the pitch. Breaking ball. Strike three swinging.
That's now Cole's fifth strikeout of the ball game. If he would just be Oh, six strikeouts. Sorry, I missed a missed one, y'all. Oh, I missed the uh strikeout in the dirt two two three against uh Brilen Gonzalez in the third.
Now his sixth strikeout if he'd just be rewarded. That's what I get I if for Max Yale Chancing Cole and Ian Corn it's just got to be so freaking frustrating that you pitch your tail off all season and can't be rewarded with run support early on in the contest. But they somehow still get wins. I love that first pitch now to Zack Kent who scored the game's uh only run so far up. He takes his first two pitches he's seen quickly ow and two now to the left fielder.
Seeing your comment, Max. Why Why can't I Why can I find a stream for every regional game on YouTube besides ours?
Here's a swing. And over to first base.
I don't know. Um I don't know if it's You can find a stream on YouTube. I would think that they would get shut down because of copyright. Anyway, there it goes to the out. Zack uh Kent with the ground out. Cole gets through it now. Four innings pitched, no runs, no hits, no errors. West Virginia still trails Bingmpington one to nothing.
We'll go back to the bottom of the fourth inning with Sean Smith, Matthew Gralin, and Armani Guzman do up. Yeah, Max. I I don't know. I I mean, everything I've read into it is that you cannot stream an actual broadcast on YouTube. And that makes sense to me that if these um media companies, ESPN, Fox, CBS, you name it, are paying to produce these games that you cannot as a you know, YouTube content creator stream at the same time. So, I don't know how you're how you're finding those other games and if they are, if how long they're staying around on YouTube. um if they're not getting shut down because of copyright. But anyway, I hope you're enjoying it. I hope you're enjoying what I'm doing so far. So, uh thanks for your comment. Love to hear any more feedback.
Anybody have any thoughts on the um close play at the plate on Kent and Kelly uh the near tag that was called safe? Love to know your thoughts on that one. Um so far so quiet. Go the West Virginia bats. Unfortunately, uh, West Virginia only has one hit on the day, let leaving three runners on board on on base.
We'll see if now if into the later stages of starts that Connor Griffin has had this season if West Virginia can get to him now over, you know, close to and then get over 50 pitches.
They're talking to uh Tim Siniki on the ESPN Plus broadcast. probably ask him, Tim, how how have you coached 30ome years at one school in today's crazy world of college sports. Anyway, uh it is a wild time as a in in college athletics. Here's Sean Smith who struck out swinging in his first at bat in the bottom of the first. Takes the first pitch outside. This will be Griffin's 50th pitch.
Been humming it so far. Three strikeouts on the day. pitch on the outer half fouled off by Smith.
I watched 75% of our games this season on YouTube streams, but absolutely.
Thank you for doing this. We appreciate you, homie. Oh, thanks, Max. Appreciate it. I don't know how you did that. You You're going to have to tell me your secret because I've I've been watching on ESPN Plus all season. Um, didn't get the video video feed, but um I know there are other YouTube content creators who go out here and, you know, do do videos on the baseball might like myself. um but not doing live streams such as this. But maybe I'm missing it.
Maybe I haven't unlocked that feature yet. Anyway, two and two on the inner half.
Good breaking ball there by Griffin.
Smith looking now up at his 54th pitch.
So, West Virginia trails one- nothing on the outer half. Foul ball. Whoa. Heads up down there on that first baseline.
I'm seeing some empty seats there at Kendrick Family Ballpark. Lot in the standing room only. Lot on the hillside, but still some tickets going unused.
That's disappointing.
Oh, hind inside. Oh, hit him. Hit Shawn Smith on the left shoulder. I don't know if he just got jersey on that, but anyway, that'll send Smith as the innings leadoff man. Down to first, Now the 10th hit batsman of the season for Connor Griffin.
He's up to 54 pitches now. Players banging on the uh pad in the dugout. Matthew Grolin stepping up to the plate. Swings on his first pitch.
Line drive to center field AND IT'S GONE.
RIGHT center field. Matthew Grlin gives the Mountaineers the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Woo! West Virginia needed that, y'all. Oh my goodness.
Good. That barreled up that pitch and took Griffin deep, 412 feet with a 106 mph exit velocity.
Love that, baby.
Awesome. Just the second hit for the Mountaineers, but gives West Virginia its first runs of the ball game.
And hopefully West Virginia now can add on with no uh with no outs here in the bottom of the fourth inning as Armani Guzman shows Bunt fouls it back. I got double zero here on my scorecard. So, with West Virginia losing the live stream webcast that I did against Texas uh Tech earlier this fall for football, that is now the first lead that I can finally show on my scoreboard that I bought from Walmart. So, yes, finally West Virginia has a lead two to one here in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Matthew Grlin going yard to right center field. That was beautiful.
Just line drive that just kept carrying.
Ah, beautiful.
And pitch goes outside to Guzman now.
One and two. Uh, Max, do you call games live and in person? You're better than most guys I've heard in the booth this season. Oh, really appreciate that compliment. Um, I did do sports broadcasting. I'll I'll talk about this actually during uh middle of thes. Let's stick with the action here, but I'll come back to that. pitch upstairs over the head of Guzman now evens the count two to two as as I I'm telling y'all I I looked at looked at the statistics Griffin a bit inefficient I know he gets a lot of strikeouts um but if West Virginia can get to him here they already tagged him with the two-run home run by Matthew Gralin West Virginia might be able to get to that get to him and Bingington doesn't have the kind of pitch that West Virginia does. Bingmpington has not played a power four opponent this season. The best team West or Bingmpington played was Dallas Baptist the first season of the first series of the year. Armani Guzman with a shot to center field. Oh, running into the fence and dropping it is Bolton got his glove on it with the standup double goes Guzman. We'll have to see how that's ruled whether a hit or an error. Guzman right at the end of the warning track. Bolton slams right into the outfield padding. Looked like he came down with it, but the ball just fell right out of his glove. Couldn't track it into the sun. Yeah. No, he it hit his palm. Didn't really hit the webbing of the glove. Bangs into the wall. Bounces the ball out of it. Oh, beautiful. That'll be scored. A double.
I'm gonna go with a double. I can I can fact check that afterwards if need be.
But now another runner in scoring position for the Mountaineers. Brody Cresser stepping up to the plate after flying out the center field last time. Got good wood on it uh in his first at bat in the bottom of the second inning.
Guzman on second base with Brody Cresser.
Oh, and that pitch borderline pitch.
I wonder if uh Griffin's confidence is just a bit shaken.
And you don't want to have shaky confidence. Jackson Mitchell now warming up for Bingmpington against Brody Cresser. He'll take advantage of you.
Fouled off. Guzman was all the way down to third base. Guzman's so freaking fast. 30 stolen bases on 33 attempts for the season for Armani Guzman. You do not want to challenge him.
Uh, I missed the first at bat. Uh, Nick, uh, how did the runner get on first base? Hit by pitch on Shawn Smith. Kind of just nipped his jersey on his left shoulder and then Gralin took Griffin yard on the next pitch. Here's Decressor down low in the dirt. Our Guzman easy in there. Pop off did everything he could on the throw, but Guzman was all the way down there. had to kind of step behind Cresser in the batters box to throw.
And West Virginia could get its third run of the day if it can advance. Guzman 90 ft. No outs here in the bottom of the fourth. West Virginia up 2-1. Pitches outside. Brody Cresser drawing the walk now. The fourth walk of the day by Griffin. And this is West Virginia's opportunity, y'all. break this game open. Runners on the corners, no outs after the gravel two-run home run. And wow, Bingmpington is going to pull Cameron Griffin. I'm surprised that they're not just going to come out for a mound visit.
Jackson Mitchell will come into the game for the Bearcats to face Ben Lumston.
And wow.
I'm surprised. I guess I'm surprised given how well through those first couple of innings Griffin was throwing it. I mean, yeah, the Bearcat faithful who are there in Morgantown should be cheering him on because I mean, man, Kid was throwing hard.
He had three strikeouts, but he'll be replaced after just going three complete. And he'll be responsible for Guzman at third base and Cro Cresser at first. But, uh, to follow up, Max, on your on your comment, uh, really appreciate the compliment. I I did, um, I was part of part of Wesburg University's sports broadcasting program, graduated in 2016.
I was a um student of West Virginia baseball announcer Lanny Fertter who's done a bunch of ESPN plus games. I actually texted Lanny earlier today and told him I was going to be doing this.
So, first time on the mic talking doing baseball playbyplay since my days at Wesburg. Um if you listen to West Virginia uh soccer, Nick Frell was a classmate of mine. Um really good guy, good friend. um big soccer guy. So, I'm not surprised that uh he does he does soccer now and doing everything that he does for West Virginia sports. But lifelong mountaineer, mom and dad both went there. Chose my uh heart or chose my head over my heart and picking Wesburg over going to WVU, but I've now had this channel since August of 2023.
Uh tell your friends, tell your family, tell your dog that I do this each and every week and have a lot of fun doing it. Don't do a lot of live streaming.
never didn't really come kind of come up with the concept of the idea um until this past fall when I wanted to do it for football. Went to the backyard Brawl game, went to the Utah game, just wasn't really finding uh a game that kind of worked out to to do until very end of the season against Texas Tech. Um so got my I guess you could say West Virginia live webcast play-by-play commentary debut this past fall with the football season. um didn't do anything for basketball. Live streamed the spring festival back on April 18th and now doing this today. So, thanks for tuning in y'all. Uh okay, just joining in. Two to one. Bottom of the fourth, Ben Lumsden steps up to the plate with runners on the corners and no outs.
Jackson Mitchell stepping in for Cameron Griffin for Bingmpington, who threw pretty well through the game's first three innings. But now West Virginia looking to break it open with just a one-run lead. Lumsden uh walked in his first at bat last inning, the bottom of the third, but then was uh frustratingly picked off at first base when Tyrus Hall was up at the plate. So let's see if he can come through in the clutch. Shows bunt pulls back. One and one pitch over his head there.
On third base is Armani Guzman. Brody Cresser over on first.
Ben Lumsden getting the start for today's ball game over Brock Wills and right field. Swung on. Missed uh a cutter, either a cutter or some sort of sweeper inside at 84 miles per hour on the lefty against the righty Mitchell.
One, two, the count.
Oh, absolutely, Max. Thanks for your comment.
All right, pick off attempt on Cresser.
Mitchell coming set.
Here's the pitch down in the dirt. Great block by Pop Off.
As a catcher myself in back in my day, which was a Wednesday, pop off with a nice block there. I always got to show the respect to those hardworking catchers. UCLA trailing in the bottom of the ninth, 3-2. Wow. They showing the score bug here on the ESPN Plus broadcast. Lamar beating Texas A&M in the seventh and San uh what is that? South Dakota State giving Nebraska all at once. Two to one in the bottom of the seventh. Here's the pitch to Lumsson. He fouls it back. Two to2 the count that in Milwaukee, Wisconsin being the stunner today, beating Auburn, one of the best teams in the mighty SEC.
Lumsden the lefty stepping in. Coming set is Mitchell who's relieved Cameron Griffin the starter low and inside a ball at 93 milesPH.
Bit of an overthrow there by Mitchell.
Got to be smart now. Here is the base runner. Oh. Oh, I'm sorry. They didn't show it here on the ESPN broadcast except the score score bug moved. Brody Cresser took second base.
So a stolen base there to Brody Cresser.
Two men in runners scoring position for Lumston. HE SMOKED IT. OH MY GOSH.
PIMPING the bat. Gone in right field.
That's why Lumsden gets the start.
Pounded that ball at the shirtless Bandits out there in right field. Yard shot. Yard shot. Five to one.
Mountaineers.
Guzman scores from third. Cresser scores from second. Lumston with the threerun home run.
345.
Two runs credited to Griffin.
Mitchell will be considered the the run for Lumsden.
And the hit allowed to him. That closes the book on Griffin for the day.
Woo! West Virginia's happy. Oh, man.
Y'all threerun home run by Ben Lumston. See, that's what I mean, y'all. That's why I like Ben Lumson. That's why I've really given him the benefit of the doubt on my channel. It's just, man, he comes through the clutch in big moments. I know only, you know, that was his first home run of the season. Just his uh 10th home RBI now of the season. uh with a 212 average coming in today's contest, but he can do things like that. Here's Tyrus Hall rolling over on a grounder to third base. Henig over to Krauss for the innings first out of the uh bottom of the fourth. Oh man, did Lumston just crush that. They're showing the Oh man, the the replay here on ESPN Plus.
Power shot, man.
Off the wall to the administrative building.
Oh, good for Ben Lumston, man. Been a challenging senior year, I'm sure, for him. Wish it would have been a little bit little bit different in the regular season, but man, if he can have a postseason to remember just after last year good career from the senior from Texas, Matt Inish now back up to the plate.
He's 0 for one with a walk in the bottom of the third. back up to the top of the order for his third at bat of the contest now to face Jackson Mitchell for the first time. Fouled off down the right field line. 2-1 the count.
West Virginia now up five to one. Better freaking change my scoreboard here. Woo!
Love that. 5-1 Mounties pitch on the outside corner. called a ball. Oh man, Matt Eish, man, he takes some pitches, baby. He takes some close ones. But now three and one the count for the Brooks Wallace Award semifinalist. That's to the nation's top uh shortstop.
Highing inside strike though on the inner half of the plate. Inish, the transfer over from Ohio University from this past off season and 3-2 pitch fouled off.
Maybe a thought that after starting I think every game last year for Ohio at second base was going to play second.
But with Brody Cresser having offseason shoulder labroom surgery, moving in over to shortstop and it's worked out beautifully for West Virginia. He's a sensational fielder and good leadoff man. Fouled off still count stays full at 3 to2. One out here in the bottom of the fourth. West Virginia breaking it open five to one thanks to Matthew Gravelin a two-run home run and then a three-run home run by Ben Lumston.
Finally, the Mountaineers breaking out the lumber after a slow start to this game and not hitting a lot of home runs this season. Inus draws the walk on the pitch inside down by his shins.
And this is your worry if you're Tim Siniki of Bingmpington.
Do you have the pitching to compete?
Do you have you already going to your second team allconerence player pulling him after three innings and just 60some pitches?
instead going now to Mitchell. And this might be a bullpen game for the Bearcats. Here's Gavin Kelly. Takes a ball low and outside. Kelly struck out looking in the bottom of the first against Griffin and then walked in the third.
One out.
Inish on first base. 5 to one.
Mountaineers lead the Bearcats in game two of the regional.
Kelly on the inner part of his hands.
Bolton getting under it. Corrals it for the catch. Gets it in quickly. Inish has to retreat to first base for the game.
Second out.
Bit of recovery there from Matt Bolton who dropped the double that Armani Guzman hit to the deepest part of the warning track.
Bolton wasn't really able to judge that.
dropped the ball and West Virginia got a runner in scoring position. Here's Paul Showfeld who's one for two. Pick off to Mitchell over at first base.
Shenfeld had a single in his first at bat with a stolen base and then flew out to right field in the third. shows bunt ball inside.
He'll redo the batting gloves and hopefully continue this fiveun inning for the Mountaineers. Shenfeld will constitute West Virginia batting through the entire order here in the fourth.
Mitchell now throwing his 21st pitch of the inning on the inner half of the plate. Called a strike. One and one.
Settling in is Mitchell.
Looking in at Showfung on, fouled down the right field line and will reset now in the hole with two strikes.
Shenfeld given one of the, you know, uh, what do you call that? Aloha.
I know why all those when they get in the two strike counts, they look down at Steve Sabins and give him one of these.
Love it. Someone who's been to Hawaii before. I love that.
Pick off over at first base to Inish in there safely.
Seanfeld the lefty hitter.
St. Mary's beat UCLA 3-2. Love that.
Thank you for that score update. Keep them coming all evening long. Swung on, hit hard down at the first baseman, Krauss. He steps on it unassisted for the third out of the inning.
And that'll end the West Virginia threat in the fourth. That one felt great. Five runs on one, two, three hits go the Mountaineers in the fourth. No errors even though that one tough play there by Bolton in center field against Gralin.
Uh I mean Armani Guzman with one runner left on base. Go the Mountaineers in the bottom of the fourth. Five to one your score. West Virginia ahead of Bingmpington.
Kentucky beating Wake Forest 6 to5 in game one earlier today in Morgantown.
The winner of this game takes on Kentucky tomorrow at 5:00 PM at home for well for West Virginia if West Virginia wins. Loser gets Wake Forest in elimination game at noon. I tried looking on on it before uh I started the webcast at I don't think any sort of announcement has come out just yet if ESPN will be having uh either of those games tomorrow on any of its network shows or if it'll be another web stream on ESPN Plus.
try and look at some other scores around the country, but love if you feed them to me in the comments. How you feeling, Mountaineer Nation? They woke up. The bats finally freaking woke up for Chance and Cole. Now pitching with a lead, getting some run support.
He's got six strikeouts on four innings complete. Two hits allowed, one run.
Chance and Cole, the sophomore D2 transfer, who's a first team all Big 12 member.
Looked really good so far.
His second best start of the year, I already talked about his best start, May 2nd against Kansas State when he uh threw 120 pitches in a complete game.
his best start of the year. Chancing Cole, April 2nd at Texas Tech, went eight innings, two earned runs on eight hits, two walks, and a hits bats and struck out four on 112 pitches. And the first pitch that he throws to Steven Cross, uh, who struck out in the top of the second inning, fouled off down the third baseline. Looked up this stat going into today, uh, today's uh, game.
Cole has averaged 78 pitches per appearance this season, 16 appearances.
He can go deep into games. It's why it was just kind of a little bit of a stunner to me when Sabins pulled him with just only eight more pitches than he's thrown today last week against Arizona State. But now seems like that was a masterclass 4D chess move by Sabins um to save Cole's arm for this moment in the regional at home. Swung on by Krauss and he misses that pitch on the inner half of the plate. 86 miles an hour.
Five to one Mountaineers in game two here.
Rolled over. This will be a tough play.
Guzman ah fel fielded the ball cleanly.
Couldn't get the ball out of his glove to flip it over to Cole.
That'll be an error on Armani Guzman.
Just did not get a good handle on the ball to flip it over at Cole.
higher degree of difficulty play, but he got to it. If he could have got the ball out of his glove, it would have been probably a step. Cole would have beat him on the reception instead. That'll bring up Zack Anderson who reached on a fieldielder's choice in the second inning and he pounds a ball high and away down the left field line to bring the score to 0 and2. If there's one knock against Chance and Cole and I only found this out by looking up the stats is he's given up 10 home runs this season. It's one fewer than Dawson Montessa has the team's leader with 11 home runs allowed.
And you can remember he gave up the home run to Dean Toyo um in that start last week against Arizona State after uh giving up a triple in the previous at bat to New Contrades.
But there he gets uh Zack Anderson to swing at a pitch down low. now his seventh strike out of the ball game.
That's what I mean. I know I know it might seem a little bit of nitpicking.
Um he's an excellent, you know, first definitely deserving member of the allconerence first team. If there was just one thing you not know, not not to worry about, but conscious to think about not giving up good pitches that these Bingmpington Bearcats could drive uh out of the ballpark.
instead. There's Mike Stelch and he drives a line drive through the uh first and second base hole into the outfield. Now put runners on the corners.
Krauss will move up to second. Stell wrecked on first.
Now just the third hit allowed by Cole on the day.
Five to one, one out here in the top of the fifth is the nine-hole hitter Tim Henig, the third baseman.
A lefty pitch outside from Cole.
And now they're showing on the broadcast here that score update about UCLA losing and the pitch low and in the dirt by the feet of Henig scooped up by Gavin Kelly.
I'd have to look into that. Maybe y'all yall know in the chat here if you can look this up. So totally understand within the bracket that if West Virginia wins this regional, UCLA wins its regional, West Virginia's going out to Los Angeles to play for the supers, does the bracket re seeded?
Yes, I I understand that. does if if say UCLA doesn't come out of their regional as the winner, West Virginia wins, does West Virginia then play the proverbally the two seed Georgia Tech or you know the nation's highest leading regional winner or would West Virginia then host whoever wins the re UCLA regional? I think that's the way it would work.
Um, unless you have to be one of those top eight seeds in the country to host.
Okay, thank you. Yeah, thank you for that, Nick. Yeah, so West Virginia would host a super if UCLA goes down. So, got to hope for UCLA to continue to lose and West Virginia's got to take care of business. Okay, good to know. Thank you.
So, 69 pitches now for Chance and Cole.
3 and 0 count here on Henig.
Hopefully he can get out of this potential trouble. Pitch down at the knees for a strike against Cole.
One out, five to one here in the top of the fifth after West Virginia went on a fiveun bottom of the fourth inning. swung through and on the follow through by Henig clips on the back swing on uh Kelly's hand.
Think he's okay taking a second. Yeah, looking at his right hand. Man, you do you get beat up as a catcher. I got I got beat up my during my time playing baseball as a catcher. So 32 the count swung on heading swings through it down on strikes. Cole's now eighth strikeout of the ball game.
Back to the top of the order goes Brilan Gonzalez who's 0 for two with a ground out and a strikeout.
Krauss on second base, Stelreked on first. Mountaineers lead Bingmpington five to one with two outs here in the top of the fifth. Swung on by Gonzalez.
weekly for a foul ball.
73 pitches now for Cole on a beautiful night in Wayne uh Morgantown.
Game two of this regional going all weekend.
Pitch by Cole Low taking for a ball.
Gonzalez didn't like it. Let's see if here in my handy dandy notes.
Benny or Brilen Gonzalez from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Liberty High School.
Here's Inish.
No play on it. Sharply hit line drive. Would have been a tough scoop, but Inish has made scoop plays like that before.
Nowhere to throw. I I I think that's an that's an error on Matt Inish if he wouldn't double clutched.
Gonzalez.
Yeah, that that that was that could have been an er that's an error.
Two errors in this inning.
One against Armani Guzman to lead it off against Krauss who's now at third base.
And now Stells at second base with Brilan Gonzalez on first base bringing up Bingmpington's toughest out and Mike's uh Mike Sweeney Sean Sweeney one and one evening the count. Sweeny's gone 0 for two in this contest with a ground out to F uh the short stop in the first struck out swinging in the third.
One of Cole's now eight strikeouts in the contest as he's up to 77 pitches.
breaking ball. One and two the count.
Sweeney th swung through that. It's one of those sinkers that Cole's just so freaking effective at throwing. And now the Mountaineer faithful are on their feet cheering on Cole to get out of this. Ball in the dirt blocked by Kelly.
He liked it. Still okay on this pitch count by Cole.
No reason I feel like to I mean let's see how this inning ends but we got the shift on on Sweeney Mountaineer shading thinking Sweeny's going to pull it 2-2 the count pitch through strike three right on the outer half beautiful by Chansen Cole his ninth strike out of the ball game gets the Mountaineers out of it with no damage done so Bingmpington No runs, one hit.
Oh, one hit, two errors, and three runners left on base. They trail West Virginia five to one to end or now into the bottom of the fifth inning. Oh boy, West Virginia needed that one. So, that's what I'm saying. Getting out of that one. Cole's under 80 pitches now going into the sixth. I'd give him at least one more. at least one more. I mean, if you can save your bullpen for two more at least two more hard-fought contests against Kentucky and then whomever. I'd keep your starters like I would do with Max Yell tomorrow like I would do with Ian Korn if he pitches on on Sunday in a you know proverbial championship game. Yep. Cole is absolutely on fire, baby. Uh, thanks for the uh, AOT truth comment. Texas A&M now leading six to five in the bottom of the eighth against Lamar. Ah, man.
Yeah. Oh my gosh. Oh, I see your comments now, Nick, from earlier on in that inning. Oh, West Virginia could play against Virginia Tech at home in a Super Regional to go to the College World Series. Now, that that that's that's legendary. That's something right there.
Let me see if I can tilt this down just a little bit here.
Let me see. That's a little better.
Yeah, that's a little bit better. Y'all can y'all can see my notes and stuff.
Go right there. Uh you can't really see the the lettering on the fox on West Virginia Mountaineer Sports, but anyway, would love to have you all as a subscriber to my channel once again now as we get to 6:40 here on Friday night.
uh talking West Virginia football, basketball, baseball, greater college sports, all that jazz all year round.
Love doing it.
And now Shawn Smith will lead off the Mountaineers in the fifth inning as Jackson Mitchell is back out there after pitching two/3 or pitching an inning in the relieving Cameron Griffin or Connor Griffin there in the fourth.
He'll get his second inning.
One to one evening. The count is Smith outside.
Ground ball to the second baseman.
Sweeney over to Krauss for the out. 4-3.
West Virginia getting five runs in the fourth off a two-run home run by Matthew Gralin and a three-run blast to right field by Ben Lumsden who's getting the start today over Brock Wills.
Bottom of the fifth, one out. Here's Gralin back up after he broke open the scoring.
Just how clutch has Matthew Gralin been for this old Golden Blue team this season? It's been a pleasure watching him.
I know that uh probably expected to do a little more catching than he's ended up doing pitch low.
Um but Kelly just, you know, being as good of a catcher he is. Gralin has transitioned to the everyday left fielder position beautifully.
ball outside. Three and 0 the count to the senior transfer from Ohio State.
Big transfer addition for for West Virginia this off seasonason. A power bat in the heart of the order. But man, how many transfers did West Virginia hit on this season? I mean to tell you strike there at the knees three to one when you think about it. Ian Korn, Chansen Cole, Matthew Grlin, Sean Smith, uh, Tyrus Hall, Matt Einish, Paul Showfell. What a just unbelievable masterclass operation by this coaching and, uh, recruiting staff now taking two pitches in a row, called a ball or called a strike on man, very borderline pitches. Gralin's got to stay in there.
I know. Tough tough pitch to to take. He He was shocked by that. He didn't like that. Uh oh. Homeplayed umpire gave him a starown there on the replay. Sabons calls a timeout to talk to him. Oh boy.
Now 31 pitches through one and a third for Mitchell.
was kind of settled down here after allowing three runs, but two two were given to Griffin for being responsible for the runners on base.
Down in the dirt, swung through. Ah, man. Get a three-0 count. Come back to strike out as Matthew Gravelin. Tough at bat for the senior there. He'll get him next time after hitting a home run last inning.
So, two outs go the Mountaineers here in the fifth.
That'll bring up Armani Guzman, who had the shot to center field. Last ated bat that Bolton dropped, got to second base, stole third base, and scored on Lumsden's home run. Swung hard on that first pitch that he saw from Mitchell.
Missed it way outside. Couldn't have hit that with a tennis racket.
Guzman from Bronx, New York, the lefty batter Jr. who came on so strong for the Mountaineers toward the end of the regular season last year and through their postseason run. You knew he had to be an everyday starter for West Virginia. This season, you just had no idea it was going to come at first base.
Here's the pitch by Mitchell.
Low in the dirt, blocked by Pop Off.
Skips over him near his home uh his visiting dugout.
Two to one. Two and one now. The count.
Yeah. Armani Guzman playing third base predominantly toward the end of last reg uh last season.
started as an outfielder and now over at first base because you cannot leave Guzman out of the order. You got to get him in there somehow. But with Inish, Brody Cresser, Tyrus Hall playing really good third base, he's kind of been the odd man out and needed to play first.
Swung on, fouled back. Full count now.
not a natural first baseman by any stretch of the imagination, but an incredible athlete. I always say a running back playing baseball and he's made some tag plays, you know, some scoops, some some some highlight reel plays and then sometimes you just think that he's still learning the position, which who knows if you need him next season at first base or if West Virginia will be recruiting a first baseman and can move Guzman somewhere else, maybe in the outfield where he's a little more natural. Anyway, drawing the walk is Guzman on the 3-2 count. So, good at bat by him.
I don't know. Love to know your thoughts, Mountaineer Nation. Do you think Armani Guzman uh may be, you know, West West Virginia is getting this transfer recruit uh Ryan Piatt Katowski, who man, I can talk about him more in between innings, but just pops off the page from a statistical perspective. As here's Brody Cresser now with two outs and a man on first base. we can talk about him and kind of like what West Virginia is looking at for returners next season and transfer recruits that it's already received commitments from and uh high school commitments as well.
Exciting times in Morgantown, y'all never sleeps as uh we've had some news I've seen on Twitter in these last couple of days that few players already hitting the transfer portal.
Never stops, man. Season's going on.
season ends on to recruiting talk. It just it's crazy. Always something to talk about with the Mountaineers. One to one the count one and one two outs bottom of the fifth. West Virginia leads five to one after a fiveun bottom of the fourth inning. Brody Cresser, who was awesome in the Big 12 tournament last week, pitched high up, high and away. Really appreciated listening to the three guys before the game uh podcast earlier this week when they interviewed Brody Cresser, getting to know his story a little bit more at the junior college level in his home state of Iowa and then transferring to West Virginia three seasons ago. if you count this this season. He was here last year as part of that super regional run.
Received a waiver from the NCA obtaining another year's worth of eligibility for this season to play and he's freaking made the most of it. 299 average coming into today's contest. two home runs, 30 RBI's been really nice addition for this program has been Grody Cresser over these last couple of seasons.
Three to one the count. Mitchell delivers right down the middle, knee high, goes to a full count. He's humming it.
He's throwing in the the low 90s as well as Mitchell after not really getting settled through the first couple of batters that he faced in relief of Griffin.
And the pitch swung on hard by Cresser fouls it off. That's another thing I love about Brody Cresser is he just works the count similarly in the way does. Um, Brody Cresser, man, just he never gives up.
Very rarely do you ever see him uh look at strike three. If he does miss, he's going into a seven, eight, nine, 10 pitch at bat like he's doing here against uh Mitchell. You can tell Mitchell's getting a bit frustrated. Just pesky in a good way. In a freaking good way. is Brody Cresser working uh Mitchell's pitch count up to now 45 pitches through one and two/3 innings.
And the delivery swung on, missed on the outside corner. Down goes Brody Cresser.
And that will end West Virginia's uh bottom of the fifth inning.
Now, two innings complete for Jackson Mitchell.
No runs, no hits, no errors, one left on. And we will go to the top of the sixth.
See if Chance and Cole gets another inning.
Yeah, going back to what I was um saying about West Virginia's recruiting class for next season. So, I'm going to be talking about that this on an up. We still want to f, you know, follow through the regional. Hopefully, we're talking about a super regional.
Hopefully, we're talking about college world series. But, uh, for next season, West Virginia's already received four commitments from uh, transfers. First was on April 28th. This was Ryan Piaattowski, 6'4, 225-lb sophomore infielder who predominantly played third base for uh the University of South Carolina Sumpter at the Jo level. Bat 463 with a 631 on base percentage and slugged over a thousand with 25 home runs and 82 RBI's, 22 stolen bases. Uh, West West Virginia received a commitment from division three Marietta starting pitcher Austin Zance. I know Marietta well uh from my time at the calling in Wesburg. Uh then uh little over a week ago out of Odessa College at Jo, Corey Alustin uh received a a commitment from him. And then earlier this week at Division 2 Ashland University, West Virginia received a commitment from Redshirt Junior pitcher Drew Becker, who was the GMAC pitcher of the year. Some numbers on uh Becker, 67 and two/3 innings pitch, 293 RA, 92 strikeouts to just 18 walks and nine hit batsmen. So here's Cole for the Mountaineers in the sixth.
I'll I'll talk a little bit more about a uh Zans and Alustin as we get opportunities in between innings. Here's the pitch pitch uh second pitch of the atbat now to Sean Sweeney or sorry Matt Bolton. I think I missed uh missed uh in my scorecard the end the fifth inning.
Sean Matt Bolton is one on the day.
A single in the first inning grounded out to the shorts stop in the fourth.
Two to one the count now with West Virginia leading Bingmpington 5 to one.
345 hitters for the Bearcats.
They're thinking they gotta fight back here somehow.
Brody Cresser coming up with the grounder. Guzman wanted to go after that end out of the shift. They were just about six feet apart from each other in the shift. Hard hit ground ball. Guzman gets to the bag quickly enough making the easy, you know, like about 10 15 feet really and maybe a little bit further. 20 ft throw from Cresser over to Guzman.
Easy out four to three for the first out for Cole here in the sixth. Bringing up Tommy Pop Off who struck out swinging twice in this contest. Now with West Virginia leading five to one in the top of the sixth and one out.
Ball outside in the dirt. Breaking ball check swing on pop off and said he held.
Umpires say he held.
Cole out of the wind up delivers. Man, that's how that's unhitable. Looks like it's coming in right at the knee level.
Tails off toward your toes outside on a sweeper.
88 pitches now for Cole who's got nineks. Can he get to 10? And he does.
Beautiful.
Same pitch.
Wow.
Looking good. Chancing Cole. 10th strikeout now. Two outs here in the bottom of the sixth. Just the Is that the sombrero as they as they say it for pop off with threeks?
Patrick inside of ball on Zack Kent who led off the second inning with a double. Got to third on a pass ball and then Zack Anderson drove him in on a weekly hit grounder to Tyrus Hall. Hall came home bang bang play at the plate called safe was Kent.
So let's see what he can do here. One and one the count now. Cole delivers.
Foul ball down toward the Bingmpington dugout.
Chance and Cole with 10. I think that's his season high now for strikeouts. He had nine against Kansas State earlier in May. May 2nd at home.
Weekly hit popup. Shallow center field by Showfeld. Gets the catch. I think that was nine 92 pitches now by Chance and Cole. Quick work getting Bolton to ground out. Pop off with the strikeout.
Zack Kent the fly out. Go Bingham. Goes Bingmpington in the top of the sixth innings. No runs, no hits, no errors, no left on base.
Chance and Cole is wheeling and dealing y'all. Yeah. So to go back to that transfer recruiting class on Zance, uh Zance 6 and4 from Marietta, 11 appearances, 10 starts, 71 in the third innings pitched, a 191 RA, one flat whip, 225 batting average against through four complete games uh for Marietta, 64 strikeouts to just 14 walks and six hat batsmen. uh for a Marietta team that usually is a top 25 or kind of borderline team in division three uh went just 13 and 20 this year but did face 15 ranked opponents with seven being in the national top 10. So when you think, oh, a division three pitcher and Z, Z was the ace for an ace for a team that really had a tough schedule and competed with kind of like a national schedule. And then in Cory Alustin, 64, 185. I can just tell this is one of those kind of project player guys that the West Virginia staff is going to absolutely love to get into the lab and work on. in Austin. 67 strikeouts in just 41 innings pitched.
Did have a 417 erra, walked 12, seven hit batsman and a 224 batting average against. But I'm sure that they see something on tape that makes them think, "Oh man, if we can just tweak one or two things with this guy, put a little bit more meat on his bones that he's going to develop into a, you know, power pitcher for this West Virginia staff."
Jake Deli now coming into um the game for Bingmpington, closing the book on Jackson uh Mitchell who went two innings, gave up uh one hit, two strikeouts, did walk to, credited with one run, that being Ben Lumsden, who the ESPN Plus broadcast is showing right now.
I don't have numbers for Deli right on my I score sheet here, but I was looking it up. Kind of one of the high leverage relievers for Bingmpington. So, they're pulling all the stops here against West Virginia down five to one as the ESPN uh plus broadcast is showing. Lumsden's home run and he just laid into that, turned his hips, got out in front of it.
63 200B player has power. Let's see what he can do here in the sixth inning.
Right down the pipe, slaps it into the outfield for another hit on a 93 mph fast ball right down the heart of the plate. Ben Lumsden. Good day for uh the senior from Texas getting the start today over Brody C or not Brody Cresser over Brock Wills who has been the predominant starter in right field. both both corner uh outfield positions. Sometimes when Gralin's catching, Brock Wills will also play left field. Did earlier in the season?
Here's Tyrus Hall now who's 0 for two on the day with a strike out and a ground out.
No outs. Bottom of the sixth. West Virginia's up five to one in front of its hometown crowd hosting a regional for just the second time in program history.
a really good crowd. I haven't seen any graphics um pop up if there's any been any sort of announcement on attendance figures for today's contest here on the broadcast or if anybody you in the chat know. Ball kind of gets away from pop off. Lumsden will take second base. Wild pitch.
Stolen base there by Ben Lumsden.
runner now in scoring position for the Mountaineers to add on here in the sixth potentially.
Swung on hard by Hall down the right field line. Can it stay in bounds off the top of the wall at the 325 mark?
Gets a good ricochet off the wall. Hall will be into third.
That'll bring Lumston around for the sixth run. Let's check that Hall. Oh no.
Ah, different camera angle. Didn't get to see it, man. Ah, so the ball ricocheted hard off the top of the outfield right field fence. Brillin Gonzalez didn't get a great read off the ball. He has to run back 20 feet in to come get it. I don't know what Lumsden was was thinking if that ball was going to be caught. Anyway, Lumsden moves up to third base. Tyrus Hall with a double off the fence. Here's Matt Inish. Ball low and away. Hall bouncing back after going 0 for two with a double. Wellit ball brings Lumsden to third. You would have hoped to have scored a freaking run on that play. I think Hall would be at third.
Anyway, lo and awayish is going to work the pitch count as he traditionally does. Does not swing at pitches early in the count.
Matt Inish works pitchers. Love that.
No outs. Bottom of the sixth.
Tapped by Inish. Deli has to come up to get it. Throws out. Throws out Inish quickly over at first. The first baseman Krauss throws back to the shortstop.
Stell to try and pick off Hall. Doesn't get him.
So a week out 13 goes in.
Hall has to retreat back to second.
Lumsden goes back to third. Deli perfectly looking back Lumsden and getting the easy out at first. One out now in the bottom of the sixth. 5 to1 Mountaineers. Here's Gavin Kelly, the Golden Spikes finalist, pounding one into the outfield into the gap in left center field to the wall. This will score two. Gavin Kelly will trot into second base easily for two more runs for the Mountaineers.
Love that into the power alley. Gavin Kelly been a slow start in this game. 0 for two with a walk, but he gets two RBI's right there, bringing up his season total now to 50. and making the game more importantly seven to one mountaineers.
Dallas's third hit allowed in this inning. Now two runs against him here in the sixth. Wonder if Tim Siniki is going to come talk to him or just let him continue to work. Here's Paul Showfeld.
Pitch low and inside for a ball.
Showenfeld in the first singled and stole second in the third. flew out to right field and then grounded out to first unassisted in the fourth inning.
Now a runner on second base. That's Kelly with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Tapped once again. Same thing in did. Deli comes up with it. Easy flip over to Krauss.
One three goes Shenfeld.
Kelly has to stay at second base.
Let's see if he kind of picks up either later, you know, later in this game and long weekend for Paul. He'll bounce back for sure.
I'm sorry. On that tapper I just showed, Sabin's talking to Gavin Kelly right next to each other. Here's Shawn Smith.
Gavin Kelly moving up to third base. So, West Virginia for its eighth run potentially 90 ft from home. Shawn Smith, who's 0 for two today with a hit batsman, swung on and missed. He's quickly in the hole, 0 and2, struck out in the first swinging, reached on the the hit batter in the fourth and scored the game's first run on the gravel two-run shot and then grounded out to second base in the bottom of the fifth. fouled off on a 93 mph fast ball in the in his hands.
Sean Smith, the senior transfer from Georgia Southern University, been dhing for most of the season. Played outfield at uh Georgia Southern, but mostly DH for the Mountaineers this season. One and two the count. Oh, checked his swing. I think he's going to get called for it. No.
Oh, Smith really lucky. really lucky.
Thought he pulled the trigger.
Instead, he'll get another at bat, another pitch to see one and two the count now. Fif this will be the 16th pitch by Deli that he's come in to pitch the sixth inning. The pitch to Smith fouled off and we'll do it all over again. Five to now seven to one. Looked up and saw my scoreboard here in the reflection of uh my webcast here on YouTube. Thanks for tuning in everybody.
7-1 in the bottom of the sixth.
West Virginia looking to play Kentucky tomorrow. In on the hands, taken for a ball.
First pitch slated for 5:00 p. p.m.
Eastern tomorrow in Morgantown in game number four between whoever wins this game and Kentucky who beat Wake Forest six to five in game one.
Ball outside. Good at bat by Shawn Smith to work this count hard against one of the high leverage relievers for this Bingmpington squad.
Three and two the count. It's gone full.
The delivery hits Smith on the hip and he'll take the easy trot down to first base.
Now, two hit by pitch hit by pitches today for the senior Smith.
ESPN Plus showing some highlights from game one between Kentucky and Wake Forest. Pretty decent crowd.
Kentucky, as we remember, West Virginia beat twice last year in the Clemson regional.
Ah, and pegged his gravel. Oh, man. He feels very uncomfortable off that after that hit by pitch.
He'll take first base. And the home crowd doesn't like it. Neither did Gralin.
Not feeling not real comfortable there.
But that'll load the bases now for Armani Guzman.
Kelly at third, Smith at second, Gravelin at first, Guzman had the double in the fourth inning, walked in his uh last at bat in the fifth and grounded out in his first at bat in the second inning as uh Deli will get a mound visit 20 pitches in.
Florida State's beating St. John's 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth. Georgia unloading on LIU Brooklyn 13 to1 in the top of the sixth. North Carolina up on North Carolina up on VCU 4-0 in the top of the fourth as I've shown the score bug here. Arkansas trailing Missouri State two to nothing in the top of the fourth. Not in the can the Kansas regional.
Tarleton playing UC Santa Barbara one to one in the top of the fourth. Here's Guzman seeing a pitch from Jake Deli low in the dirt for a ball.
Base is loaded, two outs. West Virginia now leading 71 in the bottom of the sixth after getting um two runs this inning, five runs in the fifth. Low and outside, Lumson singled to begin the inning.
Tyrus Hall took him to third base on a double.
Here's Guzman loing inside.
That'll be three and 0 now.
Oh boy. You got to imagine that Gar Guzman's taking here. 11 for 16 with the bases loaded this season is Armani Guzman.
If he takes Deli Yard. I knew it. He was taking all the way there. 11 inside right on the 11 inside corner for a strike. Three and one with bases loaded. Bases full of Mountaineers.
Swung on. And that's going to take the left fielder Kent dropping in front of him off Kent's glove. Ricochets off the wall. That scores Smith getting the ball in slowly. Guzman's going to trot into second base.
Love that's going to score Graalin as well.
Gavin Kelly, West Virginia's eighth run.
Sean Smith, West Virginia's ninth run.
It's now 10 to one, Mountaineers.
because I have no idea what Zack Kent was doing. Played the misplayed the ball off his glove, then pump faked, didn't throw home, threw into second base with Guzman there easily. That'll be three RBI's for Armani Guzman.
And now three runs going against Jack uh Jake's uh record for today. He's now up to four.
Four hits allowed.
Not a good day for him.
And I think Bingington is going to go to a pitching change.
We're going to stopage and act action.
The ESPN plus broadcast showing uh Brody Cresser talking with one of the assistant coaches and Armani Guzman.
Yeah, the stunner today. Fourth seated Milwaukee Wisconsin beating the host team Auburn 13-8.
Oklahoma State, oh man, losing. They were hot. They lost to end the regular season. Washington State beat Oregon State in the Eugene regional. Love that.
It's like a revenge of the Pack 12 regional out there with Washington State. Oregon State taking on Oregon who blew up the uh big uh the Pack 12 alongside USC, UCLA, and Washington.
Guzman now on second. Bottom of the sixth, two outs. Brody Cresser stepping up for his fourth at bat. Ball outside.
Good block by Popoff, keeping the ball in front of him. You know, if that would have gotten away from him, Guzman would have easily taken third with how fast he is. 10 to one now after what was a slow start in the first three innings for the Mountaineers has now gotten almost out of hand.
Cresser weekly down to f third base heading with the easy throw over and gets him for the last out of the inning as West Virginia for the second time today bats through the order in the fifth or in the bottom of the sixth. West Virginia gets five hits off or five runs off one, two, three, four hits.
I don't know if they're going to call an error on like the throw by um Kent in left field. So, I'm going to say no no errors with one runner left aboard. West Virginia's now made this a 10 to one ball game going into the top of the seventh. We'll see if now Steve Sabins pulls Chance and Cole who's gone six innings allowed six or allowed just three hits, 10 strikeouts and one run.
But he has been masterful uh since that rough or you know just uncomfortable if you want to call it that second inning.
Now, taking a look quickly at West Virginia's um high school recruiting class for this next year. West Virginia has the 43rd rated high school recruiting class in the nation, which is a little bit lower than what West Virginia had this past recruiting class.
Eighth in the Big 12. They have 11 players signed. Most notably, Hankle Asavdo, a 6'4, 215 pound outfielder, huge from the P27 Academy in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Bats lefty. If you happen to see the show that he put on in uh a recent I don't know if it was Prep Baseball um PBR or uh un Under Armour or who who who was doing the the home run derby, but my gosh does the boy have some power. So be see be cool to see if he um competes for an outfield starting position as a freshman next year. But we'll that's 2027. got to live in the present here in 2026. In doing so, David Hagen's going to come on the midweek starter for West Virginia during the regular season. Didn't see Hagen in the Big 12 tournament last week in surprise.
That'll end Chance and Cole's day. I don't know exact number of pitches, but I know it was in the 90s. Six innings pitched for Cole, three hits allowed, 10 strikeouts a season high, and one earned run. And maybe most notably the coolest thing in my mind, no walks. No walks, no hit batsman.
Good work by Chance and Cole. Stellar deserved this start here in game number one to start out the regional and he delivered. So, let's see if his bullpen can hold it down and get West Virginia a win. Here's David Hagen's first pitch to Stephven Krauss who on the day uh 0 for two struck out swinging in the second and then reached on an error. Did get the third base in the fifth. Let's see what he does in the seventh. Hagen delivers on the inside corner for a strike.
Krauss had a solo home run in Bingmpington's uh conference championship game a week ago against Maine, but hasn't done much else today.
A sophomore, 6'1, 220 from Hilton, New York, Hilton High School. Part of that sophomore crew that I've talked about for Bingmpington.
Low against Krauss is Hagen. Now two and one.
Yeah. Missouri State up on Arkansas and Lawrence, Kansas. The most competitive according to RPI regional in the country. Hagen walks on five pitches or Krauss. Hagen walks Krauss on five pitches.
Hopefully that's just like a little bit of rust from not having pitched in a few weeks.
Settle back in, kid.
Hagen was really money for the Mountaineers in the midweeks this season.
90 mile per hour fast ball kind of right down the heart of the order or heart of the plate. But Zack Anderson, who's now up, he um reached on a field's choice there in the second and struck out swinging in the fifth. Swings through two fast balls back to back in the hole. 0 and2 10 to one West Virginia as I have to now fix my scoreboard.
I had it stuck at seven and now I can't fix my scoreboard. There's a popup down the first baseline. Goes foul.
Gotta flip my scoreboard here now. 10 to one.
West Virginia leading Bingmpington in the seventh in game two of the Morgantown Regional.
West Virginia's second regional it's ever hosted since its first season in 1892.
ball outside. I don't know what kind of tournament structure that they were doing 120, 130 years ago in college baseball, but cool to see now how it's evolved to this level with the media coverage and attention drawn to the sport.
Low and outside in the dirt, Kelly backhands it two and two to Anderson.
Yeah, Brendan, West Virginia does look good. Really slow those first couple of innings, but then Gralin got West Virginia going with a home run shot.
Chance and Cole was stellar. Maybe his best pitching performance of the season or definitely like, you know, top three.
Kept the Bingington bats quiet. Haven't seen kind of pitching like Chance and Cole before. And then just a couple of big innings, West Virginia taking advantage. And now they've opened up a can of worms on Bingmpington.
Two and two the count. Long pause by Hagen delivers. Strike three. Breaking ball on the outside corner. Send Zack Anderson down looking.
That was nice. There you go. David homeplayed umpire loving the punch out.
Felt like he was a Dragon Ball Z warrior there.
One out now on the top of the seventh.
Here's Stell.
Beautiful fast ball. 90 miles per hour right on the outside corner. Stel one for two in today's game. Had a single in the fifth but struck out looking in the second.
Breaking ball right down the heart of the plate. Knee high. 0 and2 on sterect.
Hagen looking really good.
Kind of settling in here in a relief roll.
Bounces in front of the plate on Kelly.
Blocks it easily. Kelly's gonna w want a new ball.
Krauss over on first base with the American East Conference Champions trailing 10 to one.
Here's Heagen.
Gets Stell to roll over to second.
Tosses over to the shortstop. He's out at second. Safe at first.
Ball wasn't hit hit very sharp.
Cresser fields the ball to try and turn a double play. Easy flip over to Inish.
Inishes throws over to first base. Not able to get stell.
So add Krauss down for the second uh out or yeah four to six and Stell will reach first base instead.
There's Hennig. First pitch by Hagen rolls over on a grounder over to second to Cresser. Flips over to first for the third out of the inning.
One runner gets aboard due to the leadoff walk, but otherwise easy work there for David Hagen in the seventh. No runs, no hits, no errors.
Uh, one man left aboard and down go the Bearcats in the seventh.
Easy relief there, Hagen over Cole. West Virginia will have up in the um bottom of the seventh Ben Lumdston unless there's any sort of a pinch hitting role, but I don't know with how hot uh Ben Lumsden swinging a bat, not being an everyday starter for this team this season, wanting to keep his bat in the lineup. He's reach reach base three times.
Loser gets Wake Forest tomorrow at noon in Morgantown. Winner gets Kentucky at 5:00 PM in game number four of the Morgantown Regional.
Thanks for tuning in everybody. If you could give this live stream a like, that would help more Mountaineer fans see this live stream across YouTube. or I don't know if there are Bingmpington baseball fans who want to tune into this. Anyone else out there and would love to have you a subscriber to my channel if you don't already subscribe.
This has been a lot of fun so far.
Uh really fun doing the prep work for this uh broadcast as well. Getting to learn a little bit more about Bingmpington, their program, and of course been following this baseball program all season long.
got to say I've probably only gotten into West Virginia within the last 11 years when what was formerly Monalia County ballpark first opened up. Um being a recently graduated high school senior then in college. Um and I got to say it's just been incredibly fun especially over these last few seasons as West Virginia's gotten to regionals, super regionals and watching all the coverage here on ESPN Plus.
just love that. Um, you know, kind of a cheap option of rather than having to, you know, pay for full cable to be able to follow these Mountaineers. And West Virginia does a fantastic job with its broadcast crew. As here's Lumsden now drawing a 2 and 0 count here in the bottom of the seventh. No outs. West Virginia leading 10 to one after two five run innings.
Lumsden, the lefty, sees three pitches out of the zone, all outside, and he would be happy to reach base four times in four at bats.
Out of the windup is Deli low and he does. Wow, what a call. What a managerial decision by uh head coach Steve Sabins to start Ben Lumston in this home contest.
Nothing against Brock Wills. Good player, been a really nice addition to this uh team as a transfer out of UNCC Wilmington, but man, Ben Lumsden just comes alive in the postseason, reaching base four times today. and of course had the threerun homer that made the game five to one in the fourth.
Here's Tyrus Hall. Last time he was up, drilled a double off the right field wall with Lumsden on first base. Let's see if he can do it again. 0 and1 the count loan inside. Takes it for 02 quickly.
Pitch was just down below his knees.
Little breaking ball.
Lumston don't just the only thing against Lumston today is he got picked off on first. That that ticked me off.
Low and in the dirt. Uh see your comment there, Brendan, uh about the making the argument that he thinks that West Virginia has a better pitching staff than UCLA. I will honestly say I don't watch a lot of national college baseball. I love following the Mountaineers to talk about it for my channel.
um all all season long. I don't watch a lot of national college baseball, so I'll take your word for it. That'd be awesome. Can't wait to see. I do know that UCLA has the projected number one overall draft pick in this upcoming summer's Major League uh baseball draft, Rock Cholowski.
Here's the pitch. The Hall swung through a breaking ball and he's down on strikes. Second time he's struck out today.
Deli's first strikeout now in relief.
Speaking of Chilowski, they're showing him on the ESPN Plus graphic with all the other top prospects around college baseball. Oh wow, Cole Carlo's number 15. Yeah, he's awesome. Here's Inish singling the ball through the infield.
First hit of the day for Matt Inish.
And that'll move Ben Lumdston up to second base. Love that.
Iish in a bit of a cold streak at the plate. Let's hope that kind of starts to get him heated up after going just two for 13 with a walk in the Big 12 tournament. And in comes a new reliever as Deli will exit stage right for Bingmpington.
Yeah, West I mean West Virginia looks complete y'all. I I will say that I I just I said this on my um regional preview video on on Monday. as long as West Virginia I mean same thing that I mean can happen to anybody as long as you don't run into a a hot pitcher like a Cole Carlo or a Camden Wicker at uh Central Florida. Um even that pitcher, what was his name? Jake Elliot for TCU the night he faced against um Max Yale a couple weeks ago, the game that I went to. As long as West Virginia's bats just don't go completely flat like they did in that TCU contest that I was in at home, West Virginia can manufacture runs with the best of them. West West Virginia had a little bit more power, but we've seen two home runs, one from Gralin, one from Lumsden just in this contest.
I think that the Big 12 knows the opponents really well. That's the thing is lot of good coaches, a lot of good um scouting staffs across the conference.
Everybody knows each other very well.
you know, a lot of players playing against uh you know, com competing sorry against each other at the high school level, at the junior college level from some of these uh players who come up from Jo and get recruited by say a you know Kansas or a West Virginia or some others. So that that's what I mean to say is that maybe once West Virginia sees some other pitching across the country, um some new pitchers they haven't seen before can time it up, as long as they don't run into somebody who just completely mows them down, West Virginia can manufacture offense and then of course their pitching staff top three is excellent. And if you can add Hagen in as a middle innings relief piece or say West Virginia loses a game in the regional or you know you have to work some new pitchers, they're deep.
They have depth and this is even for a pitching staff who lost its best um best starter coming into the season in Chase Meyer in mid March. So anyway, I'll digress on that point. Brady Lesiaak coming in for Bingmpington and he'll be facing off against Gavin Kelly. No small ball task.
And the first pitch to Gavin Kelly called a ball. One out. Man on first and second. West Virginia up 10 to one in the bottom of the seventh. I don't want to get too far, you know, put the cart before the horse, but yeah, West Virginia a pretty complete team. It's been fun to watch them this year.
Evening up the count 101 on the outside corner knee high.
Lumsden on secondish at first stepping off his Lesak. Didn't like the lead that Lumsden was getting.
Anybody found any or if you want to leave in the chat here any count on unofficial attendance, I'd love to know if West Virginia broke the all-time attendance record that I don't know for as many open seats as I've seen in the ballpark and some of the crowd shots. Standing room only looks nice. The hillside looks really nice. I don't know if it broke 4,629 against Pit in 2025.
Here's Kelly with a 2-1 count. Now 3 to one outside some of these tickets to to get into this ballpark. A few hundred. Woof.
Here's the pitch to Kelly wanting to mash it. Uh over rotated. Oh gosh. On a grounder down to the third baseman.
Henig steps on the bag, throws across to Krauss. Krauss had to jump about 10 feet in the air. I don't know how he freaking caught that ball to overthrow it, but anyways, uh, Fielder's choice. Gavin Kelly reaches first, but out on the play is Ben Lumsden.
That'll move up to second base now. Two outs. Still runners at first and second for Paul Showfeld.
Takes a pitch for a strike at the letters and he didn't like the call there. Kind of a floating breaking ball.
Shenfeld one for four on the day. Single in the first and stole a bag.
gets good wood on it over to the third baseman heading who makes the catch and that'll end the mountaineer threat in the seventh. So down go the Mountaineers.
No runs even though West Virginia had what? Two out no outs and two men on.
Leave two runners on base, one hit, no errors. We'll go to the top of the eighth and we'll see if David Hagen gets a second uh inning of relief with West Virginia leading 10 to one.
Yeah, if there if there was one thing I talked about that in the preseason, you know, talk about it consistently on my channel throughout the season. a little more power, uh, a little bit of slow starts, especially in, you know, down the stretch in April. If West Virginia can hop on teams early, play pitch with a lead, man. I mean, Ian Core, Ma, Ian Korn, Max Yell, Chance, and Cole um, have been absolutely sensational. I I really thought that was I mean, what are you going to do? News is news. Um, just saw late in the afternoon on on Twitter about something about head coach Steve Savins being quote unquote linked to the South Carolina job. I don't know about that one. I don't buy it. I know it's the SEC no money talks. West Virginia's given Steve Sabins everything more than it's asked for. Uh, could the NIL budget be higher? Yeah, I think every coach would love to have more money. Um but man just coach Sabins look really you know at home at West Virginia again has just taken the torch and run with it from what coach Maisy built um over a decade in Morgantown West Virginia on a roll with um MLB draft picks this past year. five players drafted in the major league uh 25 2025 MLB draft with the highest guy being Logan Save. Um Logan Save, Robbie Porco, Kyle West, Griffin Kern, Skyler King, and then of course, could you imagine if Sam White was back? If Sam White wouldn't have uh elected to go pro and play for Toronto, if West Virginia had Sam White in the middle of this order?
My gosh.
Anyway, here's David Hagen for another inning relief against Braden Gonzalez.
Gets him to roll over on a ground out to the third baseman, Tyrus Hull.
First out of the um top of the eighth inning. Now, as we hit 7:34, twohour and 34 minute contest, 19 pitches for David Hagen with one out in the top of the eighth, looking to send West Virginia to game four tomorrow against Kentucky in the winners bracket.
Here's Shawn Sweeney, 0 for three, grounded out and two strikeouts swinging.
Sweeny's definitely noticing the uh tougher competition on the mound today.
He came in today's contest the leader in the American East Conference with a 360 batting average. First team allconerence player over for three today.
But sometimes that's baseball. What can you say?
2 and 0. Chopper down to the third baseman Tyrus Hall. Throws over to Guzman for the out. Sweeney now 0 for four. Two ground outs to Tyrus Hall.
back-to-back bat at bats. Bring up Matt Balden who's one for three with a single in the first, but then two other ground outs.
Hagen making quick work in relief of Chansen Cole, who went six innings strong. Gave up just one run on three hits, no walks, no hit batsmen, and 10 strikeouts today.
Hagen with the pitch outside to Bolton, the lefty, a sophomore. Once again, Bingmpington will be back.
They'll be back next year.
Lo and inside with the facilities that they have, the best in that American East Conference. As long as that young crew doesn't get picked off in the transfer portal, let them season, let them age, work together as a team, they'll be they'll be okay.
Ball skyed into left field, gravel near the line for the catch in the sun. That was a quick inning. Quick, quick. Was that two minutes? Was that two minutes go the Bearcats in the eighth inning? No runs, no hits, no errors. They trail by nine. No runners left on base. Let's see if West Virginia can add on. Um I should have looked this up before I started. I don't know if there is a 10 run mercy rule in the NCA regionals. I don't know if that's a that's a thing. It might be. If West Virginia can score one run here, it'd walk off Bingmpington on their home field.
West Virginia looking to get back to the super regional level for the third consecutive season. It was a a program first last year, getting to back-to back super regionals after winning the Clemson regional a year ago and then the Arizona regional in 2024. to do it three times in a row would just be a testament to how West Virginia is a baseball school and an upand cominging program on the national scene.
Especially if UCLA can lose like my goodness, man. If Yeah. If UCLA can lose their regional, West Virginia could host a super. How much will those tickets be?
Will season ticket holders, you know, return those kindly back to uh West Virginia to to resell to fans who want to get into the park? I don't know. Uh I'll digress. Just that that's the the I couldn't believe that. I was reading some of the the comments on my on my video on social media and I couldn't believe that I heard that that season ticket holders requested tickets only to then try and re resell them, you know, upsell them. But oh well.
that allowed you all to tune in to me.
So, I really appreciate that. Appreciate that. If you're you're watching the ESPN Plus broadcast like I am here from my man cave and listening to me, this has been a lot of fun as Sean Smith will be due up first for the Mountaineers here in the eighth.
First pitch called a strike. Smith's been hit by pitches twice in today's contest, struck out and ground out after a hot Big 12 tournament out in Surprise, Arizona last week. He was just a man among boys at the plate last week.
Takes a strike on a breaking ball in the inner half. Now quickly 0 and2 as Brady Lesak is out for another inning.
low and outside. Called a ball. Close pitch for Smith to take, but he does and he's rewarded with it. 10 to one. West Virginia leading in the bottom of the eighth in game number two of the Morgantown Regional.
Lesak delivers. Swung on and missed.
Sean Smith just a little bit off in this game. just a little off on his timing, but he'll bounce back tomorrow.
Get a good night's rest, get some good work in batting practice or whatever, he'll he'll be okay. Here's Matthew Gralin, who's been hit by a pitch.
Scored two runs in today's ball game and one was his own on a two-run shot that broke open the scoring for West Virginia in the fourth.
Gralin takes a pitch loone outside.
Lesiaak on a 90 per hour fast ball loan away. The fourth pitcher for Bingmpington used today outside. Have to see how uh Bingmpington and its 34th year head coach. Oh, is that M? It looks like Miles Sadler. Is that Miles Sadler? I think on the ESPN Plus broadcast, they just showed what looks like the student section at Kendrick Family Ballpark, and that looked like Miles Sadler in the crowd, the fivestar point guard who I cannot wait to see play basketball for the Mountaineer Hoop squad this upcoming fall and winter.
Anyway, two-1 the count against Grolin.
Ball outside.
Leiaak delivering 15 pitches now into his relief appearance in a regional.
coming set. Gralin takes Bingmpington uh predominantly green but wearing a black jersey with gray pants and a black cap with a white bill against Mountaineers who's going with its traditional home whites with Mountaineers across the chest. pitch outside and gravel on a walk against Leiaak, giving West Virginia another base runner. Third time today that Gralin has reached base for the senior left fielder who's also a catcher.
Guzman next up in the batting lineup on today's he had a had a double two doubles a walk and a ground out just Guzman up the middle scooped up by Stell flips over to Sweeney who gets Krauss over at first base and that'll end the mountaineer threat in the eighth and the man Guzman is a swift swiftfooted base runner.
but grounds out into the double play. No runs, no hits, no errors.
One left on base for West Virginia.
Leiaak gets his second inning in relief complete.
That's all West Virginia will need now.
Three more outs from David Hagen. And West Virginia will be moving on to game four, y'all, against Kentucky. And that will make a pretty interesting matchup.
I I saw something a little bit ago on the broadcast. Sorry, I had a really busy Friday at work. I didn't see any of the broadcast between or any of the game between Kentucky and Wake Forest other than just knowing who won and what the score was. Didn't see much from that contest or any of the highlights other than what I just saw a little bit ago.
And it looked like Tyler Bell kind of dropped down at the plate. Um Bell I can recall from that series. He was a really tough out. I think he was dealing with a little bit of an injury even last year.
I think he got injured in that cont in in the regional last year in Clemson.
Was fighting through it. So if he got injured once again, man, deja vu all over for the guy who's probably going to be playing in the the major well going to be drafted this upcoming summer.
So we'll see how that works out. West Virginia, Kentucky, man. Kind of border war rival. That's That's an underrated rivalry. Underrated rivalry. I really think that um West Virginia could exploit or I I don't know, could schedule Kentucky a little bit more. Maybe that can be one that West Virginia I thought I thought it was hilarious hearing and completely ironic how West Virginia played both Wake Forest and Kentucky, the two teams that matched up against in this regional uh in fall like scrimmages. How about that?
Here's Hagen for another inning of relief. He's gone two in relief of Cole who went six. But yeah, so Kentucky, Wake Forest, West Virginia, all familiar with each other.
Hello. Up at the plate is Tommy Popoff, the catcher in the cleanup hole, who struck out three times today for Bingmpington.
Heagen out of the windup.
Pitch right down the pipe. Maybe on the outer half a little bit for a strike.
Bingmpington wearing green helmets. West Virginia with blue caps with a yellow bill. Looking sharp in their home regional.
Low and away for a ball. 10 to one your score in the top of the ninth. West Virginia just needing three outs. get out of this and move on tomorrow at 5:00 and send the Old Mountaineer faithful who are there in attendance and watching on ESPN Plus and watching this broadcast home happy.
Start off with a very satisfying victory in this home regional.
Pop off fouls it off. So now a 3-2 count.
See the sign and the pitch by Hagen. Ah, pop off goes through. Didn't want to.
Kind of a defensive pitch up by his chin. Swings through it. Oh goodness.
And he'll strike out swinging for the fourth time today. A game Tommy Popoff's going to want to wash off quickly because he's going to have to play better if Bingmpington wants to continue on in this regional in a game tomorrow against Wake Forest who came in with an RPI of 20.
Hagen's next pitch to Zack Kent who scored Bingmpington's only run of the game back in the second inning. Swung through and missed. Curveball breaks in at his hip. Beautifully thrown pitch there by David Hagen. 80 miles per hour.
02 in the hole. Zack Kent, the left fielder.
33 pitches now for David Hagen in relief of Chansen Cole. Swung on. fouled off by Zack Kent.
Kansas wins its first regional contest.
So, fellow Big 12 member with a win.
Oklahoma State lost. See how Arizona State does tonight.
Curveball popped up into center field.
Showenfeld gets under it for the easy out, ending Kent's day at the plate.
Now Steven Krauss, last batter for Bingmpington. Two outs here in the top of the ninth. West Virginia up 10 to one.
Bingmpington's going to need a rally, but I don't think it's happening against this electric pitching combination of Chansen Cole and David Hagen on this day. Out of the windup, here's the pitch. Low and inside, call a strike.
The old Golden Blue fans in attendance at Kendrick Family Ballpark on their feet wanting to sing Country Roads, clapping like they're doing the stroke at a fall football game.
Pitched by Hagen outside, taken by Krauss, who on this day is um 0 for two. Struck out, reached on an error and walked the pitch by Hagen right down the pipe.
Down to his final strike is Steven Krauss, the first baseman.
Mountaineers want to sing Country Roads.
Here's Hagen with the curveball. Fouled off. The most antilimactic play in sports. The foul ball with two strikes in the ninth inning.
There's the Mountaineer.
There's Steve Sabin's family.
Congratulations to them. Here's Hagen.
Curveball swung on. Game over. Q Country Roads, baby. Strike three. See you.
Steven Krauss goes down. Swinging. No runs, no hits, no errors, no left on.
And that does it. Your final score from Kendrick Family Ballpark in game two of the Morgantown Regional in 2026. 10 to1 West Virginia over Bingmpington.
Bingmpington only with four hits.
West Virginia had nine, scored 10 runs off it. West Virginia did have an error in this contest.
Chance and Cole get the win, his ninth of the season.
David Hagen admirable in three innings of relief. Doesn't get a save because of the deficit, but man, Cole, six innings, three hits allowed, 10 strikeouts. David Hagen, two strikeouts, one walk, zero runs earned.
So, West Virginia coming through two fiveun innings in both the fourth and the sixth innings.
West Virginia left a little, you know, few too many runners on base for for my liking sometimes in this contest, but still, I mean, to after the way that they looked in the first couple of innings, kind of a slow start against Cameron Griffin or Connor Griffin, I don't know why I keep calling him Cameron, then coming alive in the fourth inning, breaking it open, and then it just snowballed from there. So, that was a fun one, y'all.
That that was a lot of fun. Uh, Matthew Gralin getting a gold star for this contest. I feel like Armani Guzman has to as well. Ben Lumston, the hero. I feel like um he's getting the what, three stars, one how hockey goes.
Reaching base four times, coming through with a three-run grand uh three-run home run to put West Virginia up five to one in the fourth. That was excellent. And same with Chance and Cole on the mound.
So, unless you have any more comments or any any more questions or whatever, I think I'm going to sign off here. This has been a fun one. Uh, can't wait to follow the the Mountaineers tomorrow and what they do against Kentucky and through the rest of this regional. I'll be back after the weekend is over to recap it. I'll do kind of like a regional recap video for my channel.
But, this has been a lot of fun doing this live stream. Thanks for everybody who submitted questions, comments, tuned in either for a half an inning or the complete game long. This was a lot of fun. So, Q Country Roads, hail West Virginia, 10 to1. West Virginia's the victors. Let's go.
