Soil erosion is the wearing away of topsoil by natural forces like water and wind, and it can be prevented through proper drainage systems, such as installing gutters and creating stone barriers to redirect water flow, protecting both the soil and structures from damage.

Building Our future House plans have changed
Added:[music] [music] [music] Hey, hey, hey.
[music] >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Good evening from home my people. What's up? What's up? How you doing? Welcome back to my YouTube channel. and my good name is Chef Patiko. And if you're new here, thank you so much for stopping by.
I'm coming live from home sweet home. I told you you're going to get a lot of episodes, a lot of amazing amazing amazing things that you've never imagined. So, actually, I've received a packet or a package from a pre previous video you saw, but I want to unbox it.
It's just a quick just a quick unboxing.
Yeah, I never knew that uh you can order something now. Now nowadays in Kenya, you can order something online and it's it's on a door. You just buy online. Actually, I bought these mats.
They are plastic mats for the car.
the plastic, not plastic but rubber.
I don't know if I I'll get a copyright from the music because that music is a very popular musician.
So uh so I ordered this.
Yeah, I think it's what I ordered.
This is what I ordered.
Hamza, are you helping me to take them in?
Yeah. For the car. Because here in the village, if you use the other ones and there is a lot of mud, actually what happens is that uh what happens is that when it rains, when you go get in the car, it uh you you take the mud in the car. So actually what we are going to do I realized that the car cannot come in.
The first thing that we going to do is to to make a way.
Want to make a way? Yeah. I've already started working few hours uh after I arrived home. So I have avocado man. I have Hamza. Uh my uncle is over there.
So we are going to work right now before I tell you what next.
Guess what I told you? Home will show you things.
I'm I'm drinking da because my sister realized that my voice is not okay. And actually even avocado man realized the same and he brought me some capsules some like know yes this ones right here told me uncle chu no kuzo chu do you know so that's how they're taking care of me this is dawa is actually uh lemon water and ginger you can put garlic but in this case we don't have not put garlic it's just uh to yeah to make sure that my voice does not disappear because I know you need me.
Look at this. I told you here here in the village.
Lookh avocado going to place it here because I'm going to work outside then later on I'll see what's next. It has just fallen down from the tree. I know in Europe you cannot you you can you can you cannot [gasps] Yeah. Yeah. So, what what I want to do uh we actually want to levelize right here. And I'm told that uh you want to I want to levelize we want we want to levelize right here. We put some stones from uh this end until there and some there just a little and we see how it goes. Let me just take my DA first. And I have a strong team. I have my uncle. Probably very soon you will uh be uh probably knowing more about him. Yeah. Because we have a lot to chew together. And uh yes, the flowers you see at home. And of course, I'm going to show you uh the work that he has been doing. Personally, I've not seen it yet, but tomorrow I'll be seeing it.
Christmas.
Yes.
Actually, I've just realized that he's my nephew.
He's my he's the son to my cousin.
Okay.
Actually guys, this is what we are doing.
So, we want to uh to at least change this to look good. And probably maybe I I'll be weeding all this tomorrow because this is like an emergency.
I think I'm going to need a a slasher or a gimmick.
What a slash of speed.
So all everybody's right here. Hamza avocado. My uncle Jimmy.
I need more stones.
also here.
Just wait.
Why you trust?
This one reverse reverse mode.
So guys, this to make sure that The car can pass without uh any problem.
So you're preventing gal erosion hamza. Do you know what is gi?
>> This is not gi.
>> What is that?
What is this?
What kind of is this?
>> Mhm.
>> It's not gi What is erosion?
>> How many types of erosions do you have?
>> Name them.
>> Real erosion.
>> Real erosion.
>> Gali erosion.
>> Let me just focus because this hamza.
>> Real erosion.
>> Real >> gy erosion.
>> Gali >> splash erosion.
>> Splash.
laughing. The last one the last the other one is erosion.
You know erosion.
[laughter] >> I studed in class 6. I I studied this in class 6. I don't know six or That's a What?
Cut.
What happened?
Hamza guys. And uh I really hope that you are enjoying what you're seeing because uh we are working teamwork is strength.
So I think you see okay you can differentiate No.
>> Very nice art right here. And we've been looking for this for a very long time for the chicken or chicks.
I'm just asking.
>> Oh yeah, they use nper grass to do this.
I think is the the stem.
>> Okay.
>> Very creative.
Very creative. So this uh you normally, you know, the chicks when the the the the hens hatch, we normally have the eagles [snorts] around. So they come and and take and and eat the chicken. But when you close here, you you lock them here, there's enough space you can there is air and all that.
So I think.
So this one is 300 Kenya shillings.
[laughter] Okay.
Take a sample.
Huh?
I'll tell Guys, I really love to also support other people because honestly, we've been looking for this all over and uh I just arrived today and this is the blessings that we have on our way.
Imagine Imag 2 months ago.
>> Yeah, >> we didn't find it. We went and borrow the neighbor and the neighbor was listening.
>> Imagine the neighbor was uh Hey, don't stop.
>> Yeah, don't talk, please. It's better not.
>> Yeah. Hey. Oh my gosh.
So, >> so we've uh taken this two of them.
Yeah, I could have taken three, but I don't need three. Yeah, but I think 30 years.
So, he has been doing this for the last 30 years.
Yeah. So I've told I've given him an assignment to go and bring me something small that I can put some few stuffs maybe for decor.
So go all over Tanzania Kenya.
Ah okay.
Okay.
So guys tell he's telling us that he has been into this business for 30 years and he sells all over and now that we are bordering Tanzania he sometimes sells in Tanzania in Kenya you know it's business so I'm glad that I got them. It has been a blessing.
So guys, this is the end product.
Actually, not the end. We are almost finishing. But you can see the car can definitely pass. And now that it's raining, all this sand will be stopping here just to avoid soil soil erosion. So it's uh something that is super duper.
So guys, we are done and it looks absolutely good because I told you earlier in our previous video that this is temporary right here. But all in all, everything is good. So guys, I would love to uh do a tour of uh my house.
Um because I told you previously that I left home when I had discussed with the engineer about my house, the plan of my house.
So I would like us to uh tour the house.
We see how it is because I've never seen it like I've not look at it into details because [snorts] I I I wanted to build a three-bedroom two-bedroom house. Then later on I changed the plan and I'm going to tell you why.
These are bananas and my neighbors has long bananas very long. Ah life in the village absolutely amazing.
So guys, welcome to I can call it our dream house.
as you all know is that uh uh I'm married to a beautiful wife her name is Lara and we are blessed with two daughters so initially I had a plan of building a tea house and uh actually the a twobedroom I needed a just simple because at the end of the day guys true to be said I've worked so hard to build my mom's I'm going to switch off the lights. This one here. If you you're new here, please uh I'll be just explaining because uh uh I want to welcome you. So, I'll be explaining as time goes. Maybe if you've been watching me, it might be repetitive, but it's for the sake of new subscribers. All right. So uh we built I built to the plan initial plan it was a two-bedroom house but now as you can see we have we introduced pillars uh I left home uh December last year and here there was that small house that we used to stay when we come home me of course the other room was for the guest and also my brother and just to say before my mother moved into this uh a new house. We were actually staying right there in this old house. So, [snorts] uh we have this one here. It was just a house like this.
Like this. Is this vertical? All right.
No, it's horizontal, right? If I'm not wrong.
Horizontal.
Yeah.
horizontal.
>> Yes, of course. So, our house was horizontal, but I felt like I never had an idea of building a two floor because uh it's also comes it's expensive and all that. So, I I had an idea of uh building just one house. So, I I wanted to have this space. That's why you see there is a tea house right here. It's like tea.
All right. So, this is our dream house right here.
And it's my first time to have a look at it. And because of that, probably you've been watching it, but I want you to have a look at it because I'm the owner. I want to explain in detail. So, this is the will be the entrance and uh it will just a small simple house. All right. Uh and of course all these pieces that you see here, it will be a glass. So I want I want a glass to be I I I think I will take out that depends on that. I'll put just a whole glass. I've not yet decided but that is what I'm thinking. So this is the sitting room. Actually my initial plan is uh was to leave this wall like that and to finish it uh as simple as it is. But again I came up with another idea because I changed the plan. Initially I had not these pillars right here. they were not here because it was just going to be uh a bangalow I can say and here in Kenya and some parts like in the village if it's a bungalow like that one we introduce few pillars but we introduce more wallpass wallpass I really hope that is this one to hold firmly uh the bricks so it will never the house will never collapse So even when I was building my mom's house, people were saying ah where is the pillars this house? So that is what we do after some three layers we place a wall pass because these pillars are very expensive. So we demolish the house to create another flow upwards. So down here we'll have a sitting room right here. That was our initial TV area. But right now our staircase will be from here upwards. Then here will be a TV area up to here. You see where the pillar is? It will be just a small house.
It's like it's not it's like it's 3 m from this pillar. A pillar to pillar is 3 m. All right. So this one will be a TV area and our kitchen will be until somewhere here. It will be just a small kitchen because in the village we cook from outside. We also uh have another kitchen in my mom's house. Yeah. So, we just we we just needed a small thing because definitely a house must have a kitchen when [snorts] for the future use. Even if my my my wife when comes we cook together with mom definitely. But just to build we have to put a kitchen.
Yeah. Because [snorts] uh this house maybe in a future I'm saying maybe that house in the future it will be Mara's house. And I al I say this will be Africa's house maybe in the future. So here will be a kitchen and that door. So now that here will be a decoration and I'm actually planning after after the staircase I'll have uh I'll have a an open here right right here to allow in light. So this place is not yet designed. and I've not thought about it. So, I've only thought about this area. So, the house is uh around uh five it's 5 m the no the sitting room 5 m more or less. It's 5x6. I cannot remember very well guys. Yeah. So, right here this is the entrance the to the washroom. If you realize this section of the wall they just built. I wanted the idea was because we're going to close here.
I wanted to open this initially. Now, this if it could be the two-bedroom house because of course this could be the master bedroom. I'm going there. So, I wanted this area to have a glass like a whole glass from this area to this area. Then this area could be the toilet so that you could access outside. And here I could create uh another shower. You can shower outside from that area. I had I have I had a very good idea. But since I changed the plan, I had to close there.
So when you come to uh to the left, this is the master. It was a master bedroom before we change the plan. It's spacious.
And I always love my houses to have huge windows to allow in the light. Look at this window.
allowing the light. And in this house, there will be no grills.
Uh, and the windows will be clear.
>> All right. So, we have this bedroom right here.
And we also have this bedroom right here. So, this could be the girls bedroom. All right. All the girls could go and sleep with their grandmother. So, it I I meant it for the girls. you see Mar Africa or somebody else. All right?
Or if you visit us, you know, we always share. We always welcoming. And this home has uh up there. I'm going to take you up there. There is uh I'll I'll put a bed there because that's we have a space enough space there so that when you come you can sleep somebody can sleep there or avocado or hamza because this house here I'll demolish it not now but in the near future. Yes. So um that is the plan guys. So right here it also has a big window but the bed will be right here.
Yeah. So before you see what you've seen, that was the idea. But I came up and said, why don't I just add a master bedroom on top and the girls can, you know, the girls can come, everybody can have their bedroom because they grow up or we can have one room for the guests. So I decided to change the whole plan. That's why they demolished.
Do you remember that during the demolition they demolished this part because there will be a slab right here.
When I go up there I think I'll have to explain very well so that at least you get to understand. So they demolished these parts to to actually introduce the columns and you can see this D20 D20 and those ones are D16. So the engineer knows better. D16 that is D16. There are some places like this. This is D20. D16 to allow us at least to to carry this lab. So up there we will have just one room just one room. But it will be because of course it will be the m it will be it will be an insert bedroom.
Yeah. So that I'll be enjoying with my wife D and D. I have a great idea because uh I want up there because now it will be like the whole of this part this up up until to that end. And of course uh it will extend there will be a stair here staircase here. I leave that area for a small porch. So the house will extend up to here somewhere here. You see? So I'll have a small porch that will protrude outside.
The slab will protrude outside I think 1.5 m maxim max maximum to allow for the design. So it's something that even if I explain you might not understand but once we start because we will resume very in in uh in future.
Hamza asking where you know all this is money guys anything you see here is money and these are you U you shaped so uh I'll have a bedroom right there I'll have probably in the near future we'll have a jacuzzi because it's happening because this house is not very big it's just a simple small house I never wanted people are saying why didn't you go why didn't you go and build I have land right here but I decided I'm not going to live in Europe then when I come back home then I go to sleep separate from far away from my mom that is not matik I love my mom like I love my family like uh you know crazy so that's why I decided let me go at the rooftop so that we get to see Hamza is you see how we share duties is cleaning the kitchen the mom is uh cleaning the dishes And uh we have running water. Right now the tank is full.
This one is temporary. You might think is is this really?
This one is temporary because right here I'll introduce a decor a deca a small pillar right here.
Then right here very small maybe a round pillar a very small one. Then I'll be hanging flowers right here. So it will be something very beautiful. So whatever you see outside just leave it outside.
So uh we have running water. Robie, do you have enough water? Can I see the pressure?
>> Yeah.
For that you see have running water because you have the tank at the top there. I'm actually waiting for the plumber because I realized that uh there is something that is supposed [snorts] he's supposed to is supposed to be done in the house. So guys, this is our house from the top.
So this I'm telling you this is our project from the top. So imagine you up there. Look at the view. Eh, and the sun always sets from that end. So definitely you'll be seeing and the idea is it will be like an open concept house up there.
We'll have few walls and more glass.
That's why I'm telling you it will be an open concept. And you know the height I've put my height to be 3 m.
3 m. It will be it has it will have a high ceiling not like the the open volume but high ceiling because I don't have space or or because this house will demolish it. I'll have this place for kids to play and even the tank probably I'll move it uh uh come over I'll move it to another place maybe at the back there you know anything you see here is temporary the only permanent thing is this structure here this here and of course this here what do you think about this house is small is it enough this is man of Aocado. Avocado man. The one and only. [laughter] >> Yeah. So we will put just from from this end to that end it will be a bedroom and it will come up to here.
A very nice design. I really hope that uh you know to to put a slab in the house is way much expensive. And of course at the top now at the top I'll have a a house. Then at the top there, I'll have a bar.
A bar like just uh somewhere that you can just go drink or play pool table at the top. So it will go three floors. But there at the top, I'm not going to build anything. It will be just a shadow. It will be like a gazebo or uh uh Yes, gazebo. Yeah. So this is our rooftop. But of course, just see. I can't wait now to start sitting here and taking champagne.
Avocado, do you drink champagne?
>> No. [clears throat and snorts] >> We have non-alcoholic champagne.
Look at this.
Wow. Amazing.
>> [clears throat] [laughter] >> So guys, this is the the house that I was talking about and I'm [clears throat] so happy that engineer Matico has done amazing job.
[clears throat] The thing is, I'm sorry.
The thing is, I trust my engineer.
That's why I work. He's my colleague.
One, I just drew a plan and I said build.
He's the one managing the money. He's the one everything with the help of my mom. But he delivers.
I'm telling you, he's very lucky to have a family and a cousin of uh for that case that you can work together like that, you know. So, it's something that is very incredible. So, guys, uh keep on watching. I'm at my mom's rooftop. For those people have been asking, is the house leaking?
Is the house leaking?
>> No. No. No.
>> Is the house leaking?
>> No.
So you've uh heard that other houses are are leaking but you know that Chef Matiko and the team I think we do our best flat roofs a lot of people actually almost everybody who has done flat roof in this village the house had have a problem of leakage. So the idea is if you [clears throat] have actually this is not a it's hidden not flat because you see slanting this is mama's roof. So if you want to build a house like this first of all you have you must have somebody who is uh who knows how to do roof and use uh the quality of iron sheets that is very good. All right. So uh what happens is that uh after when you build when you build the house when you're coming to roof you see for example here in the wall you cut the brick or the block you enter the iron sheet the iron sheet should be inside so that when the rain rains it does not this rain from up here it does not go inside because if you leave it like that it will go inside. And number two, another trick is that [clears throat] uh you must or you can put uh this flipping sheets you see at the corner so that when the rain hits here for instance when the rain hits here it just go directly there. And another one the most importantly the most important thing Hamza what is the name of this [clears throat] >> this camaro here what is the name of this this in the middle >> train gauge >> train gauge [laughter] back to you what is the name of this >> I don't know how >> they're called gutters so this gutter number two you must have a good gutter and in my case. Sorry for that [clears throat] guys. On this case or in my case if you see very well that I have a concrete gutter down here down that is a concrete gutter and number two I have [clears throat] some this the one that goes in the met the iron sheet the gutter now that goes in the so that when it's when it's raining it does not enter the house from that side or this side.
So it comes directly and of course to bring the water out you have the whole this big pipe over here. So this pipe takes the water to the tank directly you see. So for example like this direct to the tank you see the tank is full. So this is temporary. So when I'll do that pillar it will just hold it and we'll see what next. So this is life in our home.
We're back again. And actually, uh, I realized that we have a problem here.
Look at these boys. They don't do any cleaning less. We have cobwebs all over the house.
You're laughing. [laughter] >> No, you're laughing. Wait. From tomorrow, you'll see fire without smoke.
So, I have a bulb here that is I want to change because it's not uh functioning and I cannot call I cannot call anybody to come and uh fix fix it.
Take this avocado handman.
Maybe the the the paint will Oh, I knew that this is water.
I knew it.
Avocado, please help me something to dry this place in short.
You see, >> so these ones are uh I don't know where the water came from. definitely from the rain and uh that's why the bulb was clogged with water but it's something that I can do. So these are something that you can do because it has been here for a year and uh only one has uh is not functioning only one bulb and I have some repairs some for repairs. That one is working right Hamza?
>> Yes.
>> Which one else is not working? At the gate and on the flower base.
>> Yes.
So at the gate I have to uh to do some wiring until the at the gate then we have light you know will take ages to come machine.
Right.
I'm just cleaning it cuz you can definitely clean or wash.
You have enough water and you are blessed because it's raining.
Why did you pump the water to the to the to the tank?
>> I thought it was food.
>> I thought it was food.
>> Yeah.
>> So guys, uh this is what we're doing right now. What do you want to become when you grow up?
engineer.
>> Engineer wants to be an engineer. It's a very nice profession.
Civil engineering wants to do civil engineering like engineer.
Ah never tell about it. [laughter] So guys, after here we are going to the I'm going to mama's shop to drink porridge.
Mama will invite me please.
So guys, I want to put I have these ones.
The guy uh the guy gave this He fixed daylight.
But for decoration, I normally use uh warm.
I can't see.
Daddy, go and put on the light. Go and put on the light.
I keep put on the light and come and we see. So guys, uh I'm just trying to uh fix things at home. And it has rained today.
Not heavy rain, but it has. You see, you can tell that this one here is not the same as that one there, even that one there. So it it should be like this ones. It's beautiful like this.
Help me hold this.
>> Bring the nuts, the screws, >> what do you want to become when you grow up?
How do you want to become homes?
>> What do you want to be when you grow up?
You don't know >> biological engineering.
[laughter] What is that?
[laughter] What is that?
[laughter] Tell people. You said you want to become biological engineer. [laughter] And what is >> what is biological engineering? I mean chemist [laughter] these boys. So are we going to and come back or who is cooking?
>> Yeah.
Look, it looks beautiful. Hamza will be doing that.
It actually is uh time to visit uh mom's business, the shop. Yeah. Right now, right here, it's uh in the evening and uh we are heading to Yabhani. It has been long since I stepped my foot there.
Actually, it's one year right now as we count.
One year since we went there. But I believe that uh whatever I'll show you uh probably maybe I don't know I I don't have any expectations. So, I'm just going then I see how things go because I believe that uh because I believe that.
[laughter] >> So guys, I'm telling you that whatever we see there is just a surprise. This is my cousin's house.
Sister Hey baby.
Hello guys, welcome.
My name is Good morning, good afternoon, good evening. Yeah.

uh it's on my cousin's area home project. These are my maze.
This is our land. [laughter and gasps] So probably tomorrow as I'll be reviewing uh the other one there there uh I'll come and pass by then show you.
Avocado man.
>> Yes.
>> How is life? How is how is school? What do you do? Where do you study?
>> At school is uh is fine.
>> Yeah. And the life uh life is also fine because uh uh I believe on you my brother and uh I say to you thank you for support uh me as a school. Yeah.
Yeah.
>> School.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Actually avocado man we'll go to visit their home very soon.
Yeah. uh his uh schooling grade nine and actually he's telling me that he turned 18.
I don't know because I have to confirm with the mom. Yeah. But everything is good. He's uh my my younger brother I can say.
>> Yeah. So because he's my cousin but he's very very young. He's saying that he's 18 but we will just we have need to confirm. Hamza Amanda Hamza.
So guys, let us go to the market. I love that you can the road is accessible with the car. Can just pass by. You can drive home and all that.
Junior.
He's the best friend of Marlin.
Look, look, look.
Wait, wait.
>> Look at the sunset, guys. Look at that beautiful sunset.
I love it. I love it home. Eh, what do we think? I've met some kids there. I was talking to them. They are very close friend to Mara and uh life is going on.
Banana plantains. It's a banana. If you've never seen a banana a banana how it looks like. Look.
>> Beautiful. Yeah.
>> So, I can't wait to get there because, you know, I'm I'm home and a lot of people we know each other and definitely I have to stop and say hi. What are you going to buy?
>> I'm going to try the >> charcoal.
>> The charcoal. Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> All right.
I don't know the materials that they they are using to build because I've never seen it's like a block, but I don't know the material.
seems to be very nice cuz I I love bricks and these are uh the ones that uh we make them at at home.
These ones cement and sand but I don't know the materials that is used to actually make this Mandela.
Welcome to our market. I think they they opened a timber yard here. They're selling timbers. Avocado.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Okay.
This is the Hey, so this This is and actually probably I might not go to the other side because my mama's shop is right here because it's already already getting dark. I prefer probably to go tomorrow when uh you know we have enough light. So there is business going on timber business.
I'm going to enter through the backyard.
Auntie Thank you, Mom.
I'm at my mom's shop. It's actually in the evening and uh I want to take porridge.
Okay.
Mom has finished. So, I don't know what I'll eat.
So, this is my mom's shop, guys. Look at how it looks like. I just entered from the back back door. But this is the small shop that at least mom can get some food from here. So, it's dark already. You want to drink porridge and uh see how the town is.
So guys, we are in the market. I decided to come this side because uh mom gave me uh hot porridge. She wants to burn my tongue and at the same time she's not feeling she's not feeling feeling very well.
