[00:01:18]I'll read his email. Hi, Catfish team.

[00:01:20]My name is Charlie and I've been talking to a woman online for about a year and a half. I've sent her a lot of money and even though I've had doubts from the beginning, I still can't let her go. I'm currently in a relationship, but I haven't told my girlfriend about this and I feel stuck between the two situations. She says she loves me and wants to be with me, but every time we're supposed to meet, something happens and I have to send more money.

[00:01:46]I've probably lost around $30,000 to her. I just want to know if she's real so I can finally move on. Please help.

[00:01:54]>> Hi, Catfish team. My name is Charlie.

[00:01:58]I'm 36 years old. I'm a truck driver. I got my CDL when I was 23. I like what I do. It's my passion. I love my job.

[00:02:07]>> Charlie was searching for marriage and stability early in life. So, he committed fast and married his high school girlfriend. I got married to a girl who I thought that I was in love with. Uh we were in high school together and then we got married and we were we were married for 10 years. So a whole decade. We talked about kids and then it was like I can't I don't want to have kids.

[00:02:33]So we just grew apart. I'm like I don't want to go through this. I don't want to do this divorce. But there was something telling me that I got to get out. If I don't get out now, am I going to regret it? Charlie ultimately made the life-changing decision to get a divorce, hoping it would lead him to someone special, someone he could build a future with.

[00:02:52]>> It was finalized in 24.

[00:02:54]And that's when I started going online. I was just downloading multiple dating apps. I downloaded Tinder, downloaded Bumble, downloaded Hinge, downloaded Christian Mingle, any dating apps you can think of. I had like 10 dating apps on my phone. Some of the people on there started messaging me. Oh, you're very handsome. You know, you're very cute.

[00:03:16]You know, oh, hey, you want to hook up?

[00:03:17]>> In his search for love online, Charlie quickly got caught up talking to multiple escorts at once. They all asked for money and not once did he meet any of them in person.

[00:03:27]>> There was about 10 of them. I know. I know there's about 10 of them. I sent them a lot of money. Okay. Uh, I sent the money through Chime, PayPal, cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, Cash App, through Apple Pay. And there was a sense that came over me like a high like I felt like power like like I got all these girls. I like I felt like they all want me, you know? I'm like I started paying them all the money and I felt like a like a like a drug dealer. I felt like a like a kingpin. I felt like a like I'm on top of the world. That high quickly wore off when Charlie realized how much money he was losing to all of these women he could never meet.

[00:04:06]>> I was like, "No, I'm not paying him any more money." So then I blocked a lot of them, deleted them. But there was one that I can't do it. I tried blocking her. I tried deleting her. I unblock her. I talked to her. I tried She's I can't get rid of her. I just There's something about her. Her name is Julia.

[00:04:26]She's about 59, 510. She's got very wavy, long blonde hair, blue eyes, a thin build a little bit. Um, good figure. She doesn't wear like a lot of skimpy clothing. I mean, she wears, you know, nice clothing like she would wear like a nice tank top with jeans, you know, she would, you know, doesn't wear like a mini skirt, doesn't dress like a hooker or anything like that. She seems very genuine, very caring, very um true to herself, but is looking for a a a good man.

[00:05:03]>> The more Charlie and Julia talked, the deeper he fell for her, like no one he'd ever met before.

[00:05:09]>> There's something about her, it's just she seemed very innocent, very helpless.

[00:05:13]She said she was very poor. It's like the movie Pretty Woman. I felt like I was helping this girl out. I just so happened to come walking along and take her off the streets and give her a place to stay and give her a home to live in.

[00:05:26]And the money I've given her, I saved her, but she can't meet me. I says, "Why can't you video call me? Can I talk to the phone?" She says, "My phone is broken. My phone will never be fixed."

[00:05:37]Says, "I really love you, Charlie. I really love you." She says, "Hey, love.

[00:05:42]How you doing, love?" "Hey, love. I miss you, love." It's like, "Nobody's ever talked to me like that before." It's like, "My wife never talked to me like that before. No girls ever talked to me like that. I liked it. It's like there was something. I just like the fact that she would say hey love to me, you know.

[00:05:56]>> Then Julia came to Charlie with a proposition, one he never saw coming, even in his wildest dreams.

[00:06:02]>> She says, "Well, I have two of my friends that are interested in you."

[00:06:06]Okay. So she says, "Are you interested in a forsome?" I says, "Hell yeah. I'm all for that. I've never done that before. I figured, well, you know, I might be fun." So she's like, "Two of my friends, but you got to pay them." I says, "Okay." supposedly I was paying for her expenses. I was paying for their airline tickets.

[00:06:23]Uh she said that they really want to meet you. They're waiting for you and then I was supposed to meet them but then they wanted me to pay him more money and I says no I'm not doing that.

[00:06:36]>> After talking and developing feelings for each other, Julia suggested that they finally meet but it would cost a pretty penny. She says, "Well, I really want to meet you, so my other customer cancelled." So, she says, "If you just pay me whatever, I'll meet you tonight."

[00:06:51]And I did that. And then she said, "I'll send you my live location." And and say, "So, so then I says, "Okay, great." And then I'm waiting by the restaurant of a hotel. So, she says, "Well, we have to fill out a couple forms first." I says, "Okay, that's understandable." I says, "I've never hired an escort before. I've never paid an escort service before. I have no experience with doing this.

[00:07:11]Okay. I know it's illegal. And she says, "Well, you have to send another $150 for a gentleman verification so I know you're not going to hurt me." So, I sent that. And then she says, "Well, you need to pay send me a say take a picture of your face." My face. Okay. I want to see what you look like. So, I sent it to her. She says, "Are you clean?" I says, "I am clean."

[00:07:34]And she says, "Well, just send $200 so I know that you're clean." I sent I sent her that I was supposed to meet her at 6:00 that night and now it's 9:00 and I'm paying her all this money to meet her and it's 3 hours later and she hasn't met me. So, what do I do? I file a seize on her bank account on PayPal.

[00:07:59]And about 15 minutes later, 20 minutes later, she messages me. She says, "You seized my bank account." She told me that she had like $4,000 in her PayPal account and it got shut off. So she says, "I'm never going to meet you now."

[00:08:14]And then I felt this really bad pit in my stomach like I had this girl. I was going to meet her. I was going to meet her and now I ruined it. I destroyed it because I I reported her bank account and now I feel guilty. So then she comes back. I I ignored her for a couple days and she comes back and she says, "I'll forgive you if you just uh I want to talk about this. I want to talk about our relationship." I says, "Okay, no money aside. Just talk." You know, she's um wants to give you another chance. I made a mistake. She says, "I know that you're new to this. I know that you don't know what you're doing." So, that kind of got me roped in again talking to her.

[00:08:53]>> So, that adventure turned out to be a bust. But then Julia came back with a new idea, one that can make them both money.

[00:09:00]>> She was trying to create a business online for women's clothing. And she said, "I titled it Charlie and Julia's Linens." And then she puts a heart next to it saying, "Say, see love, I love you so much. I I put your name in the business." So she says, "You you are my co- business warner." Okay. So I sent her $10,000. It took me two months to send it to her because I had to send it 2,000 a week in Bitcoin.

[00:09:26]Then she started sending me money through Cash App and I was getting money like $200, $300, $50, $20, $25 from random people going into my account. I'm like, I don't know where this money's coming from. She says, "Those are my customers paying that they're buying stuff online.

[00:09:45]All you have to do is you keep 10% of the business and you send me back the money." So, if she sends me $200, I get to keep $20 of it. So, I would send her $180 back. And then one of the customers that she was talking to, they messaged me. They said, "Is this a scam?" And I messaged them back and I said, "I'm sorry, I don't know." And then she messages me and says, "Don't ever talk to the customers. I talk to the customers. You just take the money and distribute it to me." And I said, "That doesn't seem right." I said, "I don't feel right doing that. I'm not doing this anymore." So then she says, "I have to close the business." And I'm just like, "Why did I do that? I just gave her 10 grand just like like candy."

[00:10:25]>> After being out thousands of dollars, Charlie took a break from Julia. He soon met a woman who he got in a relationship with. But eventually, Julia came back.

[00:10:34]>> I was okay. I was doing fine. I was enjoying my girlfriend. I was spending time with her. And I was like, I'm not going to talk to this person. I blocked her. I didn't block her. I couldn't I couldn't do it. I couldn't block her, but I silenced her. That was good for a while and then I wanted to see if she messaged me and now she says I I have to send her money so that we can meet and she wants me to complete this contract.

[00:10:56]She says, "Well, this is a contract." I says, "I didn't sign any contract." She says, "Well, my bags are all packed. I'm ready to meet you. I want to meet you."

[00:11:04]And she said, "If you don't continue to talk to me and you don't pay $800, I will self So, I was like, "Oh my god, and I I started talking to her again.

[00:11:25]I'm with my girlfriend. I care about her. I I care about her very much, but I'm not in love with her. But I love Julia, but I haven't met her. I know that sounds foolish, but there's just the love. I I just a different feeling.

[00:11:40]I just love this person online. I'm just in love with this person." Charlie felt he couldn't live with himself if Julia took her life over $800. So, he eventually gave in.

[00:11:49]>> I sent her six through Bitcoin and she wants $200 before April 10th, which is next week. And if I pay that $200, she says that I can go to her house and pick her up. She will move in here and then she will reveal all her identity about herself.

[00:12:11]I've talked to my therapists. I've talked to my friends. I've talked to my mom. I've talked to my brother. And they all tell me the same thing. They says, "Charlie, just stop. Just stop talking to her." But it's like, I can't. It's like there's a 99.99% chance that, okay, this could be fake.

[00:12:27]There's there's so many red flags here that's all fake, right? But there's that point like 0.1% that says it might be real. And that 01% always keeps me coming back. There's just a little sliver of hope that just keeps me coming back and keeps me coming back and I can't get rid of it.

[00:14:15]>> So when do things I guess things have already kind of fallen apart, but when do things unravel even more?

[00:14:21]>> Oh, I don't know. Well, he says that he doesn't like cheating. He's never cheated and he doesn't He's basically saying he's not considering this as cheating.

[00:14:32]>> What's different about this case is like it almost has like the romance scam vibe but with like very transactional things like I need this, I want this and if you want this from me, you have to pay. It's like a paytoplay system, >> right?

[00:14:45]>> Yeah. Well, he also mentioned that he feels needed and wanted by this person and he's a nice guy. He claims he likes to help people out. So, I can see how Charlie got sucked into giving her money for all these various things because then she thanks him and says, "You really helped me out."

[00:15:02]>> But, I mean, it seems like there's a intimate element to this, too, though, right?

[00:15:07]>> There are a ton of red flags here. And he even mentions it, too, that he notices all the red flags, but he said he's still hanging on to that 0.01% chance this could be real.

[00:15:18]>> Interesting. So, what type of research do we have to look into? So, we have pictures of Julia. We have transactions, funds he sent via zel. We also have PayPal transactions, two phone numbers, one of them being Julia's uh plus 88 80 number, which is an international number, and then also another number he had been sending funds to.

[00:15:40]>> This is going to be an interesting case then.

[00:15:42]>> Mhm.

[00:15:42]>> So, I mean, how do we help him? I think if we start with running the images to see if we can verify who this person is and then also if we can look into those phone numbers. You mentioned the international number was a little suspicious and then an IP tracker just to confirm where this person is.

[00:15:59]>> Well, sounds like we have a ton to go through. Let's get going.

[00:16:04]>> Now that a plan was in place, David and Brienne began their investigation to find the truth behind who Charlie has been talking to.

[00:16:19]It looks like this number is under a Julia, >> which that's what matches the the profile right there. What is that? Is that zel? It's zel. But it's weird because it says registered as tippu and then tippu, which is interesting because we have a guy's picture.

[00:16:42]>> That's like gross. Like that's so gross if he's sending money and they're talking to each other. Sexy. Like, can you imagine like we deal with this all the time, but I think just having the pictures side by side like it just really hit me. It's like you think you're talking to this person, you're sending money to this person and talking sexy and then really you're talking to Tippu from Bangladesh.

[00:18:14]>> So right now we know that he's not talking to the woman in the images. We got to do IP tracker and because we have somebody from Los Angeles, somebody from Bangladesh. So, we have to see where this person is that he's talking to.

[00:18:45]>> Finally. Nice to meet you, Dave. I've seen you a lot on YouTube and I' I've been watching you guys a lot.

[00:18:50]>> Yeah. So, how are things today?

[00:18:54]>> A little bit tense, a little bit pressure. Um, you know, I'm I'm kind of I just want to know like what's going on. I I'm feeling very pressured lately cuz tomorrow they want me to pay them.

[00:19:04]And I says, "No, I've been kind of ignoring them. So, I'm just trying to focus on work. I'm trying to focus on my my work my my life right now. and just trying to talk to you guys is going to, you know, that's what I've been looking forward to.

[00:19:18]>> So, it seems like you're a little anxious. Like, what's going through your mind on like what do you think the outcome's going to be?

[00:19:23]>> I mean, I know this sounds weird, but like I want to hear that hear that saying that all this stuff was a fake, all this stuff was a scam. That would kind of give me the best closure that I could ever have because it's like I I try to talk to my therapist. I try to talk to my mom and my brother and everything and my friends and it's just like I'm not seeing something.

[00:19:45]>> I have one other question for you. What if this is real?

[00:19:48]>> Basically, in a nutshell, it's like the movie Pretty Woman, right? There's a prostitute, whatever she is, and you know, he helps her, he gives her a new life. What keeps me coming back to her is I somehow helped her. I I got her out of that industry. But it's like I I helped her so much somehow and then she wants to live with me and move in with me and have kids with me and be my you know.

[00:20:11]>> But you have a girlfriend right now, right?

[00:20:13]>> I do. Yeah. But >> you mentioned that if Julia is this person that you would indeed leave your girlfriend for her.

[00:20:27]It's like, can you really love somebody online but not love somebody that you're physically with yet? I mean, my girlfriend and I, we have a good thing going, but we don't I don't really know if I really love her yet. But like this other girl online is like I'm like somehow I'm in love. Like I have more feelings for her, you know?

[00:21:51]>> So, we ran a verse immerse search on our site, socialish.com, and we got a match, but it's not a match with the person that you thought you were talking to.

[00:22:09]>> Yeah, that's her. Yeah. Is that she she has a different name or is it >> Savia Rose?

[00:22:16]>> Savia.

[00:22:17]>> But this is her Only Fans account. I mean, she's an Only Fans model. That's why, you know, you've probably seen some more provocative stuff from her. And >> Okay. Okay. I will say this.

[00:22:32]There's something that I whenever you get a gut feeling, you always should listen to it. And I had a gut feeling that something was off.

[00:22:39]>> Charlie, can I ask you a really really personal question?

[00:22:42]>> Sure. Yeah.

[00:22:43]>> Do you feel like you have a addiction?

[00:22:47]>> Yeah, I do. Yeah, I do. Yeah.

[00:22:49]>> The reason why I asked is like we've done thousands of these videos. Like thousands. Okay. And what we tend to see a lot is that anybody that is addicted to, you know, adult content and spends a lot of time watching it builds a false sense of reality. You basically have anything at your fingertips, right? Like anything that you can search up, you can see and watch and view. This person is doing this and performing this and it seems like a normal natural thing because you can do it and access at all times >> and you can pay for it and it's just it's not real though. This isn't real life. It's just I didn't have the resources. I couldn't find out. And the only way that I could find out if she was taking money from me and scamming me is if I completed what she said these contract and you complete this money.

[00:23:36]>> Yeah. All the I mean, all the red flags were there. What do you think?

[00:23:40]>> I know. You know, what do you think caused you to ignore the red flags? I know it sounds foolish and maybe other people will laugh at this, but it's like I found that I've saved her and it's kind of like like a fairy tale like she's like a girl in a tower and I went and I rescued her and I somehow, you know, have a a life with her and I could date her and I can go out and we can have an actual life and I' I've >> So Charlie, you're not talking to a girl. We we know who you're talking to.

[00:24:09]We actually found out who you're talking to.

[00:24:12]>> Okay.

[00:24:13]So, we have access to tools that allow us to basically see the the login. So, you know, all we really need is like an email or phone number and we can see what accounts people have. For us, it's that easy. And so, we were able to take this number that you've been talking to and we were able to do these reverse lookups and actually see what accounts they have and we were able to get a profile picture from one of the accounts. And you want to see the actual person that you're talking to?

[00:24:41]>> Yeah. to my phone.

[00:24:44]>> This is the guy behind it that has a Bangladesh number.

[00:24:49]>> His profile picture is attached to this phone number that you have been messaging.

[00:24:55]>> And the the name that popped up was Tippu.

[00:24:58]>> If you notice the payments that you were making to this number, it even had the email Tippu. It had his full name, Tippu. I >> It just it the thing that gets me is like she's talking like a woman. I mean, I And I mean, not a woman, but I mean just like a female. I mean, she's saying all this stuff and it's just like it's a guy. It's just >> But you paid him 10 grand. I I would talk like a girl for 10 grand, too. And I make a lot of money, >> you know?

[00:25:21]>> Yeah.

[00:25:22]>> The person's picture that we just shared with you, that's who you're talking to.

[00:25:26]>> It's that's that's the Julia profile that you're talking to.

[00:25:32]We sent you the IP tracker. We ran we ran that information and that also confirmed that this person is from Dhaka Bangladesh.

[00:25:43]>> Okay.

[00:25:44]>> On top of it, we even contacted the person that you had sent funds to. It was a number under 424. So this was the profile picture of the person titled Julia. It was in your screenshot of the zel payment.

[00:26:00]>> They're in Los Angeles. And so we don't know if this person is behind it or if they're somebody like you that is a victim because they actually blocked us.

[00:26:11]>> So we reached out to this person and his name was Papa on there. I don't know his real name. So I reached out to him and I said, "Hey papa." And then I said, "I'm trying to connect with you." Um he's like, "I don't know who you are." And then I messaged him this and I said, "This is this is your phone number." No.

[00:26:32]and he only speaks Spanish, so I had to translate. And he said, "Yeah, that that is my number, but I don't know who Julia is." And I said, "We we think that you might be involved in an online scam. Are you involved in an online scam? Are you talking to someone online?" And he got really angry and he said, "You better not extort me. I'll call the police."

[00:26:54]And then he blocked me. So, sounds like he doesn't know who Julia is. He doesn't understand what's going on here. And I think he he might be a victim, too. He might be talking to someone online and they've told him to receive funds from you.

[00:27:10]>> Yeah. Yeah. I I just I can't believe that people can get away with this stuff. It's just >> Well, they're not. We're going to publish So, Charlie, we're going to publish their pictures. So, like, we're going to publish their names. We're going to publish their pictures. Yeah.

At the same token, I do have to call you out here because whether you were talking to Julia for a month or 6 months, there's an overlap while you were with Ashley and you're in a committed relationship.

[00:28:59]>> You know, and so now you're going to have to that's your what you want to do with it is what you want to do with it.

[00:29:05]You want to come clean to Ashley, you want to do that. Make things right. like you know like let's call it what it is and then just go make things right. It's up to you though.

[00:29:14]>> The thing that's paining me the most is I don't like keeping secrets from people and I just want to know the truth and you guys gave me that and now that I have the truth now I can feel like okay I can move on. I can be honest with the person that I'm with and I can tell them what happened and then I can get done with this thing and move on. You know >> I agree. Honesty is key. You guys both, okay, changed my life for the better.

[00:29:41]And I'm not trying to get too emotional, but it's what you guys do for a living to helping people. It's like you've really helped me in my life. You now I can focus and not have to go to work and be so stressed out and trying to pay her money every so often at a certain date, in a certain time, in a certain month, at a certain year.
