Constant screen engagement, even when not actively scrolling, can prevent people from fully experiencing their environment and lead to missing meaningful real-world experiences; taking intentional breaks from screens allows for deeper engagement with surroundings and can help people reconnect with their authentic selves.

i miss who i was before my phoneAdded:
Just one hour of no screens. We're going analog.
Our phones are our pacifiers. I also always have Twitch playing or like a YouTube video playing or a podcast. This is so nice. But let's do this class first. I am going to Pilates, which is nothing new. I know. I saw a couple comments and a couple videos. All she does is go.
But honestly, doesn't everyone kind of do the same thing all the time? If you guys saw my last vlog, and if you didn't, that's okay because I'll just it'll make sense in a second. But I literally spent 1 hour, just 1 hour of no screens. I was like, "Let me just see what happens." Honestly, absolutely loved that hour. I let myself just think about whatever was going on. I journalled, which was we literally started doing things that I had been putting off, which is so funny. Which led me to this is I'm going to try so hard to just minimize my screen time. It is truly so bad. And it's not like I'm constantly doom scrolling or like on my phone scrolling. It's like I also always have like Twitch playing or like a YouTube video playing or a podcast playing. Going to keep the feeling going. I say a workout class is an incredible place to just not think about your phone that I'm like always thinking about it, but it's just like it's always there. You know what I mean? It's just always there. Our time is so sucked in.
It's like if I didn't have this, like what could I get done? This video is not going to be me being like I'm not going to use my phone. It's just finding pockets and trying to live a little more intentionally.
um not looking at screens the entire goddamn day because if I really think about it, if I'm not watching something, listening to something, I'm probably editing, which is also a screen. Does that count? I think it counts. I don't know. But let's see where the day takes us.
Hello. Does that moisturize stick that Emma gave me? She gave me two more. They just like sent them to her. So now I have one for like night time and then one I can put over my skin care. It's been my favorite thing. This just like add a little moisture to my dry ass face. If you're wondering, this is what it is. I'm pretty sure it's pretty cheap. like in the $20 range. So, I'm doing a giveaway. I have one more. It's also perfect outside. So, maybe we'll go to like a park and read or something. I think that'd be really fun. But, let's do this class first.
I'm home. I'm going to grab a blanket for the park. I'm going to change, grab a blanket, maybe stop at like a little grocery store and get like a little thing of sushi or something. I don't know. Just some a little treat. Oh, I should just bring my crocheted one. Is this big enough? Like, is this big enough?
Yeah. Okay. Going to bring my book, aka my Kindle, and my journal. I don't know which one I'm going to do, but I'm going to find like a tote bag.
Okay, good enough. All my things together. And I got in the car and I was like, wait, I need something to feed the crows. So, I have some cat food. I have some unsalted. Some of it's like lightly salted, which isn't the best, but I'm not giving them like a ton. There's some just a bunch of nuts and pumpkin seeds and dried chicken things. They might like that. I don't know. Apparently, they love eggs. Apparently, they love boiled eggs. So, I don't think I'm like that far in where I'm going to go boil some eggs for some crows. But, you know, maybe we'll get there one day. I don't know. But, let's go to the store, grab like maybe a diet coke and a little leggy poo and eat it at the park. I'm so excited. I just realized I actually left my phone at home, which honestly is kind of the point of this whole thing. But I do kind of want it just I don't know, in case something happens.
Okay, what do we want? Oh my god, they have actually a crazy selection of sush.
A basic [ __ ] That looks good though. I will say there is something relaxing about driving in silence. I don't prefer it most of the time, but right now it feels nice to just not have anything chirping in my ear. You know what I mean? Also, my phone was just in my car.
It was not at home cuz I was like I definitely didn't like use it when I was at home. So, I mean, we're already getting detached from our phone a little bit.
Okay, here's my sush. I actually really like sushi from just like a grocery store. Um, it's so cheap and it still tastes so good. The only thing I wish it was like warm. I prefer warm sushi, but maybe that's why people don't like it as much. I don't know.
M. So bomb. Come here, bros.
This is so nice.
I'm like, maybe I should go in the sun.
I'm kind of cold in the shade. Meh.
We're good. I hear crows, but I don't see them.
an ice cream truck going by and I kind of want ice cream. Also, did you guys call it when you were little, Ding Man or ice cream? Because I don't know if I'm just weird or like an Omaha thing, but we always called it the Ding Ding Manly because it wouldn't make songs. It would just go ding ding ding ding. I moved to LA. I was like, uh, oh, they actually play songs like in scary movies. Like, didn't know that was a thing. Diet Coke hitting yet again in nature.
I have been here for like 3 and 1/2 hours and honestly just chilling. It's peaceful. Um I've looked at my phone a little bit here and there but not like scrolling. Last night I fell asleep without my like looking at my phone which is like this is really bad but normally every night I'm like literally falling asleep with my phone in my hand.
Um, I was just so tired. I was like, I could, what I like to do is like put in uh AirPods and put on a podcast or like a live or something and turn it down really low because I really like the sound of like people talking really low. I do that most nights and last night I was like, "Okay, well, I'm tired and like basically falling asleep. Why don't I just do without it?" And I did.
And I think that was an extension of like my hour of no screens. I'm not one with my phone today. We're getting in and out, people. We're getting in and out. It's one of those days where we have no groceries left. We have to go tomorrow, obviously. So, I mean, you have to also In-N-Out's so great. Like, their cheeseburgers are like 3.95 or whatever. Like, >> hi. Good. How are you? And then, could I also do a cheeseburger?
>> And nothing to drink.
>> Okay.
>> Hell yeah, brother. Wow, the lighting is great. Did that hold? Sorry, I have to put in my freaking pass. There we go.
>> Thank you. This is for your car.
>> Oh, thank you. Is it to go?
>> To go?
>> Yeah, it's not for the car.
Sorry.
>> Did you need your receipt?
>> Um, no. It's okay.
>> Have a good day. Thank you.
>> Thank you. You, too. I just see him making fries.
>> Good. How are you? I'm so sorry. I asked if it was if I could to go. I'm just driving kind of far.
>> Do you want to end the like a back?
>> Yeah. I'm so sorry.
>> Hallelujah. So good. No one found this at an estate sale. For my millennials out there, you probably hadn't been using a car. These are all DVDs.
>> They're like all labeled and everything.
I'm gonna pick one out to watch tonight.
It's funny how many like westerns.
>> Yeah, he's got some >> cowboys. We're going We're going analog.
What the hell is this?
>> I have no idea.
>> There will be blood. How the west was one. That's good cuz I kind of forgot.
If you if you know, you know. I forgot how the west was one.
>> I've never seen Apollo 13. Feel like it's like a, you know, classic like I I like like space movies like that randomly.
>> Never seen any of the Jaws.
>> That is like a good like summer movie.
Oh, Bubby.
>> What's that?
>> I think it's like >> Dang, it looks exciting.
>> I mean, I again it doesn't matter. It's like >> a little Lost at Sea vibe.
>> That's another thing. Like DVDs had illustrations on them.
>> Oh, actually it's kind of >> Should we watch it?
>> Looks like Matt watched it. It's got George Clooney in it randomly. Mark Wahberg. Wait, what did my >> John C. Riley? Wait, actually might be good.
>> Matt like it.
>> I don't know. He didn't really rate it.
>> I'm just looking at one big screen, which I feel like is fine. There's something about a scary boat in like a horrifying ocean that really intrigues me for some reason.
Maya's bird. This is the Xbox sound.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Actually have a bird at our sanctuary that I did not realize it was making. It makes like a text sound exactly. And every time I'm near it, I always think it's someone's phone. And then randomly the director was like, "Lava did a text noise." And I was like, "Wait, what?
That was the B." No. Guess we have to watch it on Hulu.
>> And it's full screen.
>> Strange.
>> Do you know what year this was that came out?
>> I think like 2000.
Oh, >> okay.
>> Yeah, right on the dot. 2000. Oh my god, this looks terrible.
>> Yeah, it does. Come on. We got to >> I know.
>> See? Damn. Here's some nostalgia for y'all.
>> This film is based on a true story.
You think it's like the Titanic the way that music came in. A tale of two ships.
Think about literally so perfect and gripped.
>> Just get that thing out of my face.
Like I see like actual videos and I'm like how do they not tip over?
>> Sometimes it just does and it literally eats.
>> Okay, that movie was actually pretty good. I will say however they were swooshing and swashing in that ocean for like 40 minutes. It took forever. Nolan just said it's a movie. I will say the little trailer thing made it look way worse >> than it was. was >> a very like I mean you I mean god damn the budget had have been crazy.
>> She's perfect.
>> D. Yeah.
>> You guys, I posted an unlisted link to my first YouTube video. It's from November 14th, 2014.
And oh my god, nervous, unsure, sad question answer. Not about me, but just in general to some >> literally crazy. This is like during the Vine days. kind of sweet and it kind of makes me think screens aren't all bad. Screens did get me here. I have Pilates again tonight and I'm really thinking about going to the park again. I feel like it was so nice and chill. I'm just really needing outdoor space, you guys. Like my balcony needs Oh my god, we have an HOA meeting tonight. I currently have nowhere to just like sit outside unless it's like a park or something. I've slept the past two nights without my phone like without listening to anything and it's been really nice. Um, it does feel like I'm missing it though, which is concerning.
That's okay. I think it's good that I'm just kind of not I really like listening to something though, so I don't know.
We'll see where this goes. But it's also bizarre being a part of the generation that like growing up we didn't have screens the way we do or a phone or literally anything. And I mean, it's a part of everything everywhere, every single thing. And even to just like restaurants, some of them have the little iPads you just order on. You know what I I think the biggest takeaway for me is literally it's crazy how much I want to do things that I've been putting off once I'm like, "Okay, no screens for a hot minute." It's so funny. Like, it is. It's just funny. Really? Are we babies? Like, we're we're literally infants. Our phones are our pacifiers and our vapes. We've never done the like specifically 1 hour of just like chilling, like just kind of sitting. It sounds stupid cuz it's like what do you mean? Like that's just a part of being a human, but like it's honestly slipping away from us. I'm going to go. I love you guys. I will see you next time I post.
