I leased a farm and filled it in one dayAdded:
I've just leased 170 acres. It's either the smartest thing I've ever done or the financial equivalent of lighting money on fire. We'll find out together. Stop looking at those. Those don't concern you. Don't worry about them. Let's discuss. So, what you are looking at right now is the 170. I'm in one of them. We've got one back here to the right, one to the left, another one over there, and this one here. It's a 5 acre paddic. We do have a little bit of a laneway and yards.
We'll discuss, but this is a lease the farm held for quite a number of years.
The owner then took it back and then dad got it back earlier this year. Dad said, "Do you want it?" Because I'm not going to make money on it. And then I thought, "That sounds like a great idea. Let's do it." So today I'm going to give you the tour cuz everyone always wants a farm tour. And the farm tour of the skanks paddic, which we still have. It's over there. It's like look at this point, this point, this point, and this point.
That's the paddic. But this one's got many paddics. So, let's go see the paddics. Look at me supporting the local wildlife. This is water source in paddic number one. Spoiler alert, this is the most water you're going to see on this tour by a long shot. Yeah, this is currently the only real functioning paddic I can have sheep in at the moment until we get a trough and pipes and a tank. But the neighbor situation, who have we got? This property borders three other properties.
Four technically. That's dad. That's dad. There's a little [ __ ] dicky block sort of thing that's out cut out in over there. That's the same owns the ram.
>> What the [ __ ] is that?
>> Still have him to deal with. And then there's another weird little block in over the creek on the edge. It's a nice blow hobby farmer in this paddic. We have somewhat decent grass happening.
There's a bit of clover actually also happening. So here's here's your depth.
This one here has a wire gate, but they have put one of these [ __ ] on, which makes my life 10 times [ __ ] easier.
We love it. We appreciate it. I don't appreciate the yards, but we'll get to that. I know there's people that winge every time I make this joke, so I'm going to make it again. It's as dry as a nun snatch. Remember about 30 seconds ago when I said the water sources only get worse?
This is This is worse. This is the water source in the second paddic. It's a shame because there's some pretty decent feet on the top of this hill, but it is what it is. As you can see, it's pretty desolate. Oh, it's a little bit wet there. My foot went maybe half a mill.
That all there. That's all the same paddic and all the way across to here.
This is probably a drone job. I should have bought the drone. I'll insert drone footage here if I remember to do it. Cut to Tara saying I didn't remember to do it.
This is all the same paddic up there.
There is some decent grass. Dad had the old prime lines in here. It's a bit of a funnel that's meant to drain water down to here, as you can see. Let's go to the next paddic. The yards.
Let me tell you about the yards. But first, you know the drill. Everyone pause the video. Go get yourself a glass of water. You're going to drink it throughout the video. Here are the yards. All what's left of them. When he leased this out, I'm pretty sure he just took everything that wasn't bolted down, including the gate at the end of the yards. And this gate, he mustn't have been able to get it off. But it is a step up from what we have in the skank paddic, which is [ __ ] all problems I foresee with this yard. This orange thing. I know for a fact they're not going to vibe with it. I just saw this has a handle.
Is it meant to open? It might. I don't.
I don't [ __ ] know. The fact that there's no back to the yards, that's probably a bit of an issue. And you're thinking, Tara, it's a lane way. There's going to be a gate at the end. No, no, we took the gate. That had a um panel on it. They did leave this gate, though, so that was nice of them. That's my yard situation. So, we're going to have to buy probably 20 m of paneling. Oh, and a gate. We need We need a gate for the front. Let's go see this water source, shall we? Water source number three. The water is a very lucrative asset here.
I'll tell you how much I paid for this at the end. I know you're looking over there. Stop looking over there. Look at me. Not over there. I'll tell you when you can look over there. This paddic we're in now is the best paddic on the property. Current plans for this paddic is to put in some sort of multiass multiecies grazing cuz we can actually sew this. Before you say anything, we know we can't sew where the skanks are and the skanks have better feed. Like the skanks, can you see them? You can.
You can see the skanks. Let me show you.
You can see the tree in their paddic over there. You can see there's the skanks there. You see them? Um, that's behind those trees is the paddic that the ram came through. But you can see two skanks right there. There's some birds. They're not skanks. They They're not that fast. So, you can see them from here. That's [ __ ] insane. Zoom. Wow.
[ __ ] Is anyone else impressed by that?
That's insane. I can just see a white dot. As I was saying, it's a very flat paddic. If you don't look at that slope, there's a lot of biomass in the ground here. Obviously, you know, it's only starting to come up. This paddic is probably the one you'd want them in after they lamb. So, the lambs grow. I looked at a few different options and now because we can't get fertilizer. Did I mention that they've shut the ports in Australia now? So, you can't actually get fertilizer anymore. We're owed 16 ton. When dad rang about it, they said, "Oh, no."
So now people aren't getting their super map, all their [ __ ] that they ordered.
If you do manage to get some, expect to pay out the ass so much that whatever you're doing is no longer profitable.
We're looking to alternatives. I've messaged a few people. What I'm currently working on is something that's in the very early phases, but it's going to be very, very unique. Someone smashed the gate. It actually wasn't us. It It was It was them, right?
Come on in. No, it's not a mirage. You are actually seeing water.
I know. Insane. This is the other paddic that has water and that's it. That That's literally it.
I told you not to get your hopes up.
Paddic number five. This is arguably the worst one out of the whole lot.
Actually, it's probably not arguably.
This is the worst one out of the whole [ __ ] lot. Oh, it's a [ __ ] It's It's like a It's like a cliffy sort of drop down.
You kind of have to suppose attack it from that way. It's a springy spring creek sort of thing. It's currently dry, so there's no water in here either. As I said, three out of the five paddics have no water. This one here, this is the brucyosis neighbor paddic. The fence is pretty good. It has been replaced except for this weird stretch. Hang on. There's this weird stretch here that goes across the the spring, the creaky spring. She's a bit sketchy. Apart from that, the fences are really good. The prime lines couldn't get out. So, they're pretty good fences there. Most of them have been redone. This one here is a brand new fence along with all of those.
There's something biting my [ __ ] foot. But there's your tour. Let's talk about how much I paid for it. For this property, we're paying $100 an acre a year, which is quite overpriced for what it is in this area. It's more I'm more paying for the convenience of Well, the farm's just here. Is it worth it? We'll see. Will I get Will I make that money back? You're about to find out how I might.
Maybe. We'll see.
>> Slag.
>> What do you do when you spent a [ __ ] ton of money but haven't made a profit? You double down. I bought a truckload of sheep. We are almost there to collect the skinks. Skank stops. There they are.
Hello, lady.
Ladies, this is your new home.
Oh, look at the grass. It's a novelty for them. Like, look at this [ __ ] Oh, ladies, you are going to be so excited.
Here are my new ladies. They're Australian whites. Of course, we're doubling down on that. I'm I've literally just seen the one Australian white that went yesterday to the abattoire and we're tripling down on these [ __ ] I'm telling you now, the meat is like nothing you've seen before.
And obviously they all need to be drenched. So that's the next job. Skank reveal.
Here are my skanks.
Skank reveal. Oh, Liam's going to be slug. Good girl, Slug. Go in. Go around, slug. Yeah. Welcome, skank.
You're like, "What the [ __ ] is this green shit?"
>> Welcome, skanks. Straight into the grass. Oh, look at my truckload of skanks. There's a third emerging. Yes.
Come on. Push. Come on. Adventure outside. [ __ ] sake. I'll get my tripod so I can go in.
Push.
Come on.
There we go. There they are. Look at them. Some of them are having a munch.
One of them decided she wanted to lay down a few times. The concern with her is if she's pregnant, she could have bought because of she got stood on.
I will prepare your drench for you and get you out. I do see some of you are already already having a munch, which is all good. They're just that there. See how she's a bit hollow? That's because they're thirsty. Um, when a sheep gets thirsty, they'll dip into that little triangle there. This is the minerals they get. And they get a we're we're going to say they're 80 kilo. So, they're going to get 15 mil of that one.
Hoo hey.
Thinking it over. Do I just say it now?
Want to be closer? Will you just try me out? Two souls, different directions, same hope, different perspectives. I'm trying. I know you're trying, baby. I saw you in a dream.
You were touching my body.
>> What are your thoughts on them?
>> That's a nice background.
>> Here are the ladies this morning.
They're looking very pleased with themselves. I imagine they would be because they've come from this onto this. Their little sheepy minds will be blown with how much feed there is. I think I'm going to call them skunks cuz they're like budget skanks. And then we have bougie skank which is Chanel. And we're going to get them back in tonight into the yards which are set up there.
Uh cuz they're going to be scanned.
Alistister's coming back. He wasn't scared off by the whites enough last time. So I've got him back on ones that I've never really handled. We're going to find out who how many are dry and what kind of numbers we're expecting from them. Skitty skanks. We're in the skank paddic. I'm just looking at the birthing suite because they'll be coming in here in a month just to see what type of grass growth we've got. There's patches of nothing, but there's also really, really good patches of grass. Probably more. There's definitely more in here than other paddics. This will do well for the skanks lamming.
Um, I'm just on my way to check them now. I see there's like [ __ ] eight of them there, so I don't know where the [ __ ] the rest of them are. And while we're in here, we'll check the pets who have not yet worked out they can walk over the [ __ ] bit of rubber into the larger bit of the paddic. They've only explored like a third of their paddic cuz they won't leave the electric tape that's off. Check out this grass. It's looks mostly dead. There's a lot of grass under this grass. That's I need the pets.
the pets to [ __ ] come out here and start eating this [ __ ] Come and eat the good [ __ ] They're sitting there eating the same like rubbish every day that the skanks have already picked over all summer. I'm going to put the u lambs in here. Uh probably soon. I might even do it this weekend because like this is this is ridiculous and the skanks need to not be so fat. Like you need you need good healthy l healthy you so they lamb well but if they get too fat they prolapse. What are what are you doing?
Their birth canal gets lined with fat and then they can't get lambs out.
Chanel. Hello Chanel.
Oh, I missed it. Fluffer just [ __ ] met Captain again and Captain was like, "Bitch, this is my mob." The one that's skinny, the one with the leg and two prime line crosses have gone up the back. This is everything that's we're not going to breed this year. This one has been in with captain, so she may, she may not. It is what it is. So, we ended up with 14 not pregnant. These ones here from Banksia I've decided to hold until next year just to kind of see what they do. I'm interested to know.
So, three of them didn't get bred. The other five did. Come on, little you.
Come. I need you to cross into Oh, good.
They're coming. Very good.
See, they're they're having little panics when they run out.
All right. They should have good feed here, my dudes. Much better feed. Their mummies are like more competition. Where are they? There. More competition.
[ __ ] Did you watch them cross?
Here they are. Now that they're full, we're going to have a proper look at them now that they're not just [ __ ] skinny and looking [ __ ] That there's a very nice sheep. That red ear tag one.
And the blue the blue one behind it is a very nice sheep. This one here second in that blue ear tag one. She just took a step backwards. It's very nice sheep.
Good structure.
>> Here are the skunks. It's scanning day.
I've got the scanners just behind me.
Let's find out how pregnant they are.
Is that you saying a lot?
>> How's that? So, she's right on that border borderline of um like being able to twins. So you can see how the see how you got this streak streaking sort of effect. That's the bones calcifying of the fetus. So um they get over that 90 95 days and then the um bones bones harden and you can't see out the back of the pregnancy to to spot the second lamb. So >> they open the gates.
>> [ __ ] sake.
>> These are horrible. Just they will not run. As long as they walk, they're fine.
It's just they don't they aren't walking. So, are you fisting them?
>> Oh, yeah. It's one of the great pleasures of this job.
Those kinky [ __ ] Who would think that you fisting the shrimp? I haven't got time for that [ __ ] Now, so this is what uh um hang on, I'll chug it up into a bigger screen. So, um so that's the calcification there. Like, it's well over scanning dates. So, yeah. Um I'll just chuck in early on those and like it's probably a single but can't most of these are going up. Um it's just single bearing use. So that one there you can pick that's just a single.
So see that there.
That's Kelly sheets.
Piss >> piss.
>> That's their bladder.
>> Oh.
>> So that's the bladder.
>> Yeah.
>> And then you pull over into there.
That's the um just a single pregnancy.
>> So you got a bunch of singles. Do >> Yeah.
Singles. So you got one dry and all singles.
>> Every single one wants to [ __ ] not run.
>> Come in and have a look. get in a bit closer and square up. So you can see that sack there like that's that was a fetus in there. It's reabsorbed and then you come back over to this other section. There's a there's a lamb in there but there's hardly any codal leadance to deliver blood to that pregnancy. So that'll be an interesting one to see whether she delivers a live lamb at all in this this pregnancy. So see how she goes. I'll put a mark on her. So, I'm putting water on the probe to make the skin contact in under the leg there.
>> Hang on, let me get a nice shot of the the leg. There we go.
>> So, in under there, you've got like that skin section there. So, I'm putting a probe probe on there and then I'm grabbing that bit of skin to put over the top of the probe. So, make a really good um tight skin contact. Um and then um yeah, so you can see how you got that streaking. That's the calcification of the bones. But that's about a 95day single pregnancy that one.
So just starting to get within my reach.
Those ones have been able to twin as singles.
>> There's my numbers. We've got more questions.
>> I'm on my knees.
>> Bold italics. Underline. Rate them.
>> For [ __ ] sake. Ah, New York Times, isn't it? New York Times. Italics got to be at the back. Um, I don't even know what what was it. Bold >> bold italics underline.
>> Five, six, seven.
>> Least favorite muppet.
[ __ ] big bird. He gives me the creeps.
>> What? Sesame Street ones don't count.
I'm talking the show.
>> What was the other question? I asked about the fisting. You enjoy fisting sheep.
>> Oh, that's why I do it.
>> How do you know what the [ __ ] you're doing?
>> I don't. I just [ __ ] you just constantly. It's nothing to do with doing 10 12,000 sheep a week and actually becoming good at my trade. I'm just guessing all the time.
>> It's a lot of guessing. These are actual comments. He read every one of your comments. Yeah, you bastards.
>> My favorite one was I didn't realize there was a fourth Hemsworth brother.
Did you like that one?
>> I didn't see that one.
>> Oh, that was beautiful. And then right under >> you sure that this comment exists?
>> And then under that they went that carries an extra chromosone.
>> Prague scanners forum.
>> Yeah, we had a PR scanners for him last year.
>> What? There's four people in the room.
>> 40 of us turned up.
>> 40.
>> We worked out we scanned 6.2 two million sheep amongst us >> and we had 415 years experience of pregnancy scanning between the group.
>> [ __ ] hell. So, how many scanners are there in the country?
>> Trained about 180. Whether they're all still there's been a fair few retire.
It's not like a massive we wouldn't say you you can scan forever cuz it's pretty hard on your body.
>> What's the best one to What's the best breed to scan?
>> Marinos.
>> [ __ ] Marinos.
>> Marinos.
>> Well, cuz they can't they're all dead in there. No, >> it's easier to scan them when they're dead.
>> No, first cross years are pretty good or composites, but yeah, I did I did 1,200 marinos the other day for twinning an hour and 35 minutes.
>> It's about how long it took to do 99.
>> Especially in first cross or composite use, it's a lot faster. You just you're putting the probe on, you see twins, and you're not searching for that. If you see a single, you're searching for another fetus. So, if you see the see a twin straight away, you can just keep them running. So, >> what's the highest percentage you've ever scanned?
>> Highlands at 225%.
Highest maidens were some really wrinkly marinos just south of Horscham. They went at 169%.
>> What's the lowest percentage you've ever seen?
>> I did some Aussie whites by this little curlyhead girl this year and they've managed to come in at the lowest this year by far. You've got beaten here by Marinos by 70%. Imagine that. Buy marinas and they're still going to get a fleece of wool off them as well.
>> Yeah, but mine look pretty. Is it the actually the lowest you've had?
>> Yeah, >> surely someone had a heap of dry something.
>> No, not for twinning. So, >> [ __ ] that's grim.
>> I did some Donies. Did some Doney use and they went 118%. They were probably the lower ones that I've done this year at 118%.
>> [ __ ] What's the highest Australian white you've bought?
I stopped doing them a few years ago cuz I was getting belted up and stuff was getting broken.
>> This here I've had that bent sort of 5 in this direction >> by the whites >> by the whites and the front gates. I had to change them from aluminium to steel because they were getting bent and smashed up.
Just cuz the gates shut, they go, "Oh, that's just Yeah, we'll just >> we just push through that.
>> We'll just hit harder." And >> what's the plans for this week? So today I'm heading over the Grampians and then back down to Balmoral tomorrow and then Maj Lake Border Town Mandala Lucendale Fox then all the way up to Milang and then up to Mount Barker up near Adelaide on Friday and then come back again.
>> I'm going to assume Google knows where those places are. I don't >> Would you say it is probably half the length of the states >> you're going to travel?
>> No travel. That's probably like traveling from um um like Bellerat to Adelaide.
>> Well, thank you again. Thank you for coming, guys. If you need your sheep scanned, especially Australian whites, give him a call. He loves them. Please, someone with a massive amount of Australian whites call. That's >> right. You didn't see me do me warm up for the Aussie white suit. You like >> your warm up?
>> Yeah. Did you see that?
>> No.
>> I slam me hand in the car door 20 times.
So, how much does it cost to buy a truckload of sheep? Well, to buy this single deck of sheep, it costs $27,720 or $280 a sheep. So, you can't be too upset with that. I'm going to get like 102 lambs out of them, which is pretty good considering they conceived on pretty minimal food, which is a good bloodline that I want, especially if we're going to continue with drought, which we're expecting to head back into in May. Anyway, that's it for this video. Thanks for watching. Like or slug is swe.
>> Oh, you're in the sun. You're having sunbathe.
>> Nice.
>> We'll give you an ultrasound.
>> Good slap.
