I have a doctorate in literature, which means I get way too emotionally invested in the shows I'm watching. So why don't you hit that subscribe button so you never miss a video. Today we're reacting to episode 14 of season 1 of Demon Slayer and Zenitsu is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. He's such a sweet boy. He's risking everything to protect this box even though he knows a demon is inside because he knows how important it is to Tanjiro. He's putting his own cowardice on the back foot to do something that he believes is worthy and right. He's overcoming his fear and I just I love him. He's such a sweet boy deep down and he does everything he can to protect those around him. Yes, he's cowardly and he can be loud and a bit annoying, but he is a good kid at heart.

[00:01:04]He's just trying to make the best of a terrible situation that he's found himself in. He doesn't want to be here.

[00:01:10]He's just trying to do what he can. The fact that despite everything, he's always trying to protect those around him. He protected the young boy from them falling out the second floor. He's protecting this box despite getting brutally beaten up. And all this because he knows how much it means to Tanjiro and because he deep down also cares about this young boy, too. And that's why he was like cradling him when they fell out because he wanted to ensure that he wasn't hurt in the process because at the heart of it all, Zenitsu is stronger than he believes himself to be. He is more courageous than he realizes. And Tanjiro is going in with this out. He's not happy that this is happening to Zenitsu. He's seeing flashbacks to what happened to Nezuko as she was trying to protect their baby brother from being attacked by Muzan. So yeah, Tanjiro is not happy, but he hasn't drawn his sword, which I think this could be contradicted if he ends up drawing his sword, but I think the point is that he's trying to find a resolution. But we know that the episode is the house with the wisteria family crest and we know that wisterias are feared by demons. So I think it has to potentially be connected to boar boy because we don't know anything about him. We don't know his name. We don't know his background. And we know that he was the fifth candidate and was too impatient to stay. So he is a demon slayer, but we had already guessed that way before it was revealed anyway. He is sort of an anomaly. I got so emotional though seeing just Tanjiro's level of empathy once more able to recognize the skill and talent and give him peace in his final moments even though he'll never forgive him. And I think that's all he can offer is respect and to some extent admiration, but not forgiveness because how can you ever forgive someone for the atrocities and harm that they've caused. And he was willing to accept that the demon as he died. He was more happy that his life's purpose wasn't for nothing, that he wasn't seen as talentless and boring, that he had his confidence restored despite years of being beaten down and broken by those whose opinions he respected, that they treated him as if he was nothing, but Tanjiro was able to recognize the power and skill he possessed even though it's sad that it only happened in death rather than in life, but unfortunately the world is cruel that way. [00:08:15]But he also was trying to protect you. What does you want him to do? He wasn't really much of a choice.

[00:10:13]>> [laughter] >> Is that why he wears the boar mask? Cuz he doesn't want people to be distracted by his appearance or he doesn't like being seen as attractive and pretty.

[00:10:42]It's written on his loincloth. What happens? What's going on?

[00:10:52]Is he passed out from Whoa. Dude.

[00:10:56]You got rabies? What's going on?

[00:10:59]Are you okay?

[00:11:03]I was going to say. It was like, "What's happening?"

[00:11:11]>> [laughter] >> He's a hot head.

[00:11:17]Maybe you should roll him onto his side before he chokes.

[00:11:21]>> [laughter] >> Christ. Okay, so we actually know his name.

[00:11:26]He's very pretty. I was wondering if we'd see him behind the boar hide. It's kind of nice that they did give us that.

[00:11:33]He can't read or write, so maybe all his life he has has been spent like training. Hence why he's so like flexible.

[00:11:42]>> [screaming] >> And impatient.

[00:11:44]>> [laughter] [screaming] >> Stop trying to fight everyone.

[00:11:52]Oh my god, this is going to be an amazing trio.

[00:11:55]>> [laughter] >> It's not the time. They're literally burying someone.

[00:12:11]You're going to learn some empathy today, boy.

[00:12:16]He says creatures. Does he not see himself as human?

[00:12:25]>> [laughter] >> Them's fighting words.

[00:12:31]He's going to want to prove that he's not hindered by his injuries.

[00:12:37]Oh, he knows how to work him.

[00:12:43]>> [laughter] >> Oh.

[00:12:49]He's going to come out with like five bodies. Watch me prove you wrong.

[00:12:58]>> [laughter] >> Oh, he's a little hot head.

[00:13:07]>> [screaming] >> Is he hardening his head because it was a weak spot?

[00:13:18]Okay, so he can't be knocked out again by a headbutt.

[00:13:30]What's the point?

[00:13:37]Oh, Jesus.

[00:13:41]>> [screaming] >> You have to say goodbye. Oh, he still thinks it was him that killed that demon and it wasn't.

[00:13:49]>> [laughter] >> He's Tanjiro.

[00:13:54]>> [laughter] >> Let the kids go home, jeez.

[00:14:03]What the All right.

[00:14:08]>> [laughter] >> Could have warned him before he like vomited it into his hands, jeez.

[00:14:18]So it's nice of you to give it to them.

[00:14:22]Aw, I'm glad that this had a somewhat happy ending because obviously someone died, but it wasn't any of the siblings.

[00:14:31]So they all get to go home together.

[00:14:44]That's not his name.

[00:14:46]>> [laughter] [screaming] >> Someone told me she's Nezuko really angry cuz he's trying to rest and they're being too loud.

[00:14:59]Oh, is this the strange guy's house?

[00:15:03]You know, the one we saw through the final selection. I thought maybe it was linked to Inosuke.

[00:15:09]I'm butchering his name.

[00:15:13]Could this be the guy that had the bird with the scarf?

[00:15:24]Isn't that sweet? He does rude.

[00:15:29]Like a place of rest for the demon slayers.

[00:15:39]He's like looking around for the danger or just for anything to fight.

[00:15:46]Aw.

[00:15:52]A monster hag. Be respectful.

[00:16:00]He really is beastly, isn't he?

[00:16:04]>> [laughter] >> He's trying to provoke him into a fight.

[00:16:15]And Tanjiro is just too nice to rise to it.

[00:16:25]Eyelashes?

[00:16:27]>> [laughter] >> Aw, this dynamic is so cute.

[00:16:35]Zenitsu, shut up.

[00:16:37]Whoa.

[00:16:38]>> [laughter] >> That was quick.

[00:16:46]>> [screaming] >> Oh.

[00:16:50]Not near him.

[00:16:57]It's severe.

[00:17:03]Poor jeez.

[00:17:18]Hold back.

[00:17:21]Stop being stubborn.

[00:17:25]I'm going to look at Zenitsu standing up for himself.

[00:17:34]Oh my god, Zenitsu.

[00:17:39]>> [laughter] >> Monster Monster hag.

[00:17:44]>> [laughter] >> Oh, so it's like a safe haven.

[00:17:55]Well, I was completely off with where I thought it was going to go.

[00:18:07]Oh, was it completely accidental?

[00:18:11]>> [laughter] >> He didn't actually train to become one.

[00:18:20]Oh, wow.

[00:18:31]He was raised by the animals.

[00:18:35]That's why he can't read or write, but also why he's so like beastly in his behavior cuz he's not used to being around people.

[00:18:48]The box.

[00:18:57]He's a good guy.

[00:19:05]He just loves a bit of praise.

[00:19:08]>> [laughter] >> Oh, for [ __ ] sake.

[00:19:24]That was you.

[00:19:28]Oh my god, are we going to see him like fawn over Inosuke?

[00:19:33]>> [screaming] >> Because he's a good guy.

[00:19:43]He's also used to this behavior. He's got younger siblings. He's used to sharing.

[00:19:55]>> He's going to stop the minute he sees her cuz he's going to be like, "Oh, it's not the scary monster. It's a girl, and she's pretty."

[00:20:04]>> [screaming] >> She's so cute.

[00:20:14]>> [laughter] >> Oh, he's in love.

[00:20:20]>> [laughter] >> He's smitten.

[00:20:30]Too much thinking.

[00:20:32]>> [laughter] >> He's like, "I'll deal with this in the morning."

[00:20:36]Oh, no.

[00:20:37]Oh, no.

[00:20:40]You hid this beauty from me.

[00:20:42]>> [laughter] >> It's his sister.

[00:20:56]>> [screaming] [laughter] >> He's like, "How dare you?"

[00:21:08]It's not like that. He's jealous cuz he likes her.

[00:21:13]>> [laughter] [laughter] >> Oh, for God's sake.

[00:21:33]He's not even listening.

[00:21:35]>> [laughter] [screaming and groaning] >> Aw, they're carrying their sparrow together.

[00:21:42]>> [laughter] >> Aw, it's Zenitsu. He's like, "How dare you? You stopped my marriage, and now >> [laughter] >> you've been carrying this cute girl around."

[00:22:01]What is this?

[00:22:02]This is new.

[00:22:13]Inosuke a button in your shirt.

[00:22:22]>> [laughter] >> Where is the Taisho secret? This was fun in quirky, but I miss my Taisho secret.

[00:22:39]I just love the dynamic between all three of them. You can really see how their personality is going to work in conjunction with each other, but I love that he's like, "You disrespect the Demon Corps. You said you're doing all this for like to help people in the greater good, but you're just doing this to get the respect of pretty girls, and you're carrying her around and making out with her. And I shed blood for you, and I thought we were doing it because we were good guys.

[00:23:04]>> [laughter] >> How dare you?" And then I imagine some of it's jealousy as well cuz he's like, "How can you get a cute girl, and you thwarted my marriage, and I wasn't able to walk around with this cute girl. This is all your fault."

[00:23:16]And then just him screaming monster hag, but it's just funny that like he'll sit up in bed, and he'll speak really harshly and firmly to Inosuke.

[00:23:26]Inosuke, Inosuke and not be scared to be blunt with him, but then the minute he sees this old woman, he's like, "Oh my god, hag." Again, not how I thought it was going to play out.

[00:23:38]I thought it might be connected to Inosuke, but no, it's connected in general to being a safehouse for Demon Slayers because of their gratitude from being rescued by them in the past. I thought then, "Oh, it could be the guy we saw during the first selection that had the crow with the little scarf."

[00:23:58]Like maybe he'll show up, but no, he didn't show up. So, Inosuke wasn't even trained to do this, grew up completely isolated, which makes sense as to why he's so unsure of how to act around other people, and he doesn't even see himself as a person because he keeps saying like, "Why should we bury these creatures?" So, he sees himself more like a beast than he does a person. And he can't read or write. He doesn't know who his parents are. He doesn't have any siblings. He has honed his strength and abilities from fighting other beasts in the forests and the mountains. And the only reason he ended up here is because he challenged a Demon Slayer student and took their sword and then heard about the final selection and was like, "Okay, it's a way for me to test my abilities and my strength." And became a Demon Slayer by pure chance.

[00:24:49]wasn't anything he was honing himself for. It's just something he ended up doing, and it's just so impulsive. It's hilarious. And then you have Zenitsu that didn't even want to do it, but was forced to do it. And then Tanjiro that did it because it's part of a greater purpose of finding out how to ensure Nezuko will be turned back into a human. So, he has to track down other demons and also protect his baby sister and himself. I just love the dynamic. And the fact that the longer he's around them, the more he'll begin to understand humans that it'll sort of come to him. Also, did I remember correctly? He said that he doesn't know his name, right? That he can't read or write, but it's in his loincloth. He said that's the name that's written in my loincloth. So, how can he read it if he can't read or write? I just remembered. It might be oversight, but yeah, the loincloth might not even be his. So, he might not even have a name. He's just taking the name from somebody else at this point potentially. But this was a nice little reprieve before they venture out again that they get to learn a little bit more about each other. Inosuke is too tired to think about it properly and decides to go to sleep, but I love that he's like, "Why isn't he rising to the bait?" Because Tanjiro is a good guy. He's not rising to the bait because he actually is just a genuinely kind individual, and he doesn't want to fight you. He doesn't see it as a benefit to him. He doesn't gain anything from it. Whereas in his mind, it's a test of strength and prowess to fight one another. And the fact that immediately after he gets knocked out by Tanjiro with the headbutt, he starts like ramming his head off the tree to try and toughen his head up so it can't happen again. He's like, "I can't have a weak spot." So, that resilience and strength is very clear in Inosuke, but also that hot-headed irrationality.

[00:26:47]But like he's just impulsive. He just does things because it feels good or he likes the idea of it. And then we're having Zenitsu becoming a bit more confident, a bit more free in how he's speaking and not as frightful. Apart from when he's calling that poor old woman a hag after everything she's done for them. He's like, "She's a hag.

[00:27:07]She's moving too quick. It's a trap.

[00:27:08]It's not normal." But I love Zenitsu and his whole interaction with Tanjiro at the end where like he's trying to purge him and fight him because he's like, "You shouldn't exist." And that electricity that's crackling off him because he's not even letting Tanjiro explain. He's like, "I didn't shed blood for you to be making out with a cute girl this whole time on this journey.

[00:27:30]It's not fair. You got rid of my marriage prospect. But not only did you get rid of my marriage prospect, you also got rid of the kid who was strong and could have protected me." Without realizing that the kid didn't do jack [ __ ] It was him. Which just makes it all the funnier that he still doesn't understand that the kid didn't do anything. It was him all along. And Tanjiro is just like, "You have it completely wrong. It's my baby sister."

[00:27:56]>> [laughter] >> There's nothing going on here. There's nothing inappropriate. But I am definitely very excited to see their dynamic because they're resting here, so they might end up going on another mission together.

[00:28:09]Again, all four of them. And learning more about Inosuke and how he kind of ended up in the situation that he's in because I find him a very fascinating, interesting character. And just Tanjiro is just so unfazed by his bait because he's got younger siblings. He's used to it. He's had to be the father figure, the head of the household. He's had to not rise to the bait of his younger brothers. And to him, Inosuke is kind of like an annoying younger brother stealing his food off his plate. And he's just like, "If you're hungry, there you go." Taking the bed and trying to provoke him into wanting that bed and fighting him over it. And he's just like, "You can have it." That's fine.

[00:28:50]You You rest up. And he's like, "Why is he not rising to me?" Because he's a good guy, and he has younger siblings.

[00:28:57]So, he understands what rage bait is.

[00:29:00]>> [laughter] >> So, like he gets it. He's not going to give you what you want because he knows it's what you want. And he also just doesn't want to fight you. He's chill like that. I adore this series. But I think that's all that I want to say for now. I'm looking forward to venturing into the next episode, seeing more of their dynamic play out. And hopefully we'll meet the other two from the first selection. There was the girl with the butterfly hair clip, and then the very angry boy that really wanted his sword. We haven't seen them two. Because there were four. We've obviously seen Tanjiro and Zenitsu.

[00:29:36]Inosuke wasn't there, but we still have two that we haven't run into yet. So, maybe towards the end of season 1, we might run into to and learn more about their experience and their backstory.
