[00:00:51]Unfortunately for them, the late teacher and blogger may be gone, but his death is threatening to drag several officers down with him, including one of the most powerful men in the police service.

[00:01:09]This week inside Kibera High Court, prosecutors stood up and said that the story Kenyans were first told that a young teacher simply hit his head against a wall in a police cell was never the truth. What actually happened, they now say, was an assault planned, executed, and covered up right down to a CCTV system that mysteriously stopped working at exactly the moment investigators came looking for answers.

Because while the country watches, junior officers walk in and out of courtrooms, one name keeps slipping quietly towards the edge of the frame. And that is Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, the man whose complaint started this entire chain of events.

[00:03:18]June 2025, Albert Ojuango, a teacher and a blogger, is arrested all the way in Homa Bay and transported to Nairobi.

[00:03:26]Reports indicate that Ojuango was arrested over complaints linked to directly Eliud Lagat, the Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Service himself.

[00:04:55]Today, however, prosecutors are presenting evidence suggesting he was assaulted, struck with a blunt object, and strangled while in detention.

[00:05:40]>> Former Central Police Station OCS Samson Talam and five other police officers have been charged over Albert's death.

[00:05:48]All six pleaded not guilty.

[00:05:50]However, the charges have not settled public concerns.

[00:05:53]Questions remain over who ordered the actions that led TO ALBERT'S DEATH.

[00:06:03]WHILE THE COUNTRY WATCHES JUNIOR OFFICERS FACE the full weight of this case, Kenyans can't help but wonder why Eliud Lagat's name, the man whose complaints triggered Albert's arrest, keeps on disappearing when mentioned in this case. Because at the peak of this murder in 2025, reports emerged that Albert was taken from his cell to Karura Forest, allegedly to meet with a senior National Police Service official, that it was there he was tortured in that official's presence until he collapsed, and that his body was then returned to the station to stage the scene investigators would later walk into. That is why ordinary Kenyans and the people who took to the streets when this story first broke have never stopped asking the same question.

[00:06:51]If the orders came from Eliud Lagat, why does the chain of command disappear the moment Kenyans ask who gave them?

[00:07:01]>> In other countries, flag In Kenya, police and the mad way. Why is it the situation? Because the police officers have been misusing their power.

[00:07:13]And they have been weaponized by the political establishments in Kenya.

[00:07:36]This is an illegal gathering. It is an illegal meeting.

[00:07:43]We have a very insecure president and a very insecure government.

[00:07:56]How insecure can you be as the Inspector General? How insecure can you be as the Deputy Inspector General? How insecure can you be as the President?

[00:08:11]Investigations can be officially Kenya.

[00:08:16]Now these investigations are finished.

[00:08:35]Lack of evidence.

[00:08:48]You see Kenyans are not asking for mob justice. They are asking for a complete investigation, one that follows the chain of command wherever it leads. Asks every question that needs asking and does not develop sudden selective blindness the moment those questions start climbing towards offices with expensive furniture and serious titles.

[00:09:10]Now Kenyans are already predicting that by the end of this case Eluid Lagat would be in police custody.
