Strong to severe thunderstorms possible in South Florida on TuesdayAdded:
Always cracking, always alerting. This is Next Weather.
>> I'm Next Weather Meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez. Let's take on Tuesday together. And for right now, it is calm out there. This is the calm before the storms. We're seeing a mix of sun and clouds here from our Miami camera, and another live view here from our Miami Beach camera, where the sun is trying to peek through the clouds. Also a little hazy as we have some Saharan dust nearby. Temperature is 78° right now over Miami Beach, but getting ready for the rain to roll in later today. And isolated strong to severe storms will be possible. So, a heads-up. And also, the potential for some heavy downpours as well. But, we'll be drier by the weekend. Take a look at the rain chances, which will stay high today and over the next couple of days. Holding on to that umbrella and staying weather aware as we're going to be in for the wet weather here heading through Thursday. And then by the weekend, rain chances do go down to just 20% just body showers expected as we head into your Saturday and Sunday. In the meantime, this morning you're good to go if you're getting ready to drop off your kids at school here the final Tuesday of the school year. Almost there. And if you're headed to work, no weather worries out there. No rain to slow you down. Just some clouds around. And the wind still out of the west, which is a very hot wind flow for us. It has been oppressive the last few days, especially in the afternoons, right? We're going to do it all over again this afternoon. Low 80s right now here in the Keys. Upper 70s in Broward and Dade County. Now, with the heating of the day and the moisture and the the instability, we're actually seeing a level one risk for severe weather for areas here in Broward County north of Fort Lauderdale and heading into Palm Beach as well. Not only that, a change from yesterday is that we are also under a level one risk for flash flooding and excessive heavy rainfall for Broward and Dade County due to the potential for some isolated heavy downpours. Before the rain does move in to bring relief, though, we could see another record. Miami now would be the third day today. Yesterday we hit 94 Miami today forecasting 93. The old record is 94 and we're talking 90s for Fort Lauderdale and Key West. And stay hydrated when you factor in the humidity, it is going to feel like the hundreds again. So it's certainly going to be a steamy day ahead and you want to make sure throughout the day that you and the kids are drinking lots of water.
Also, if you're headed to the beach, there's a low risk of rip currents and for boaters now is the time if you want to head out on the waters before the storms fire up. Over the Atlantic waters in the Keys for now no alerts, but our next weather rain tracker showing it's right around 3:00 4:00 p.m. Similar to yesterday that the storms will develop and could bring down some heavy downpours and even some damaging gusty winds. Possible evening commute looking soggy again. Stay tuned to our meteorologist Nick Merianos. Tonight could be quite nasty around 8:00 9:00 p.m. first in Broward and then it'll all slide down into Miami-Dade County. And that's due to this moisture that's being funneled in across our state, but drier air is on the way and that'll move in as we head into your Saturday and Sunday.
Tracking the tropics here the second day of hurricane season and it is still tranquil out there. Nothing that we're tracking in the Gulf, in the Caribbean, or the Atlantic tropical systems not expected over the next 7 days. Next weather 7-day forecast showing that we are going to continue with this hot steamy stormy pattern with those highs in the low 90s today, but the upper 80s tomorrow. Rain chances even higher as we head into your Wednesday and Thursday before they start to go down, lowering our temperatures by Saturday and Sunday.
Highs in the upper 80s with just a 20% chance of rain for your weekend.
