In glycol-based ice machine systems, high pressure shutdowns can indicate a locked water valve rather than a system-wide restriction, as the glycol loop circulates fluid through the machine rather than using city water that flows directly down the drain; proper diagnosis requires testing both sides of the system to isolate the specific component causing the pressure issue.

Stoelting - hi pressure shutdown & bonus - same old nonsenseAdded:
Okay, so this unit when they run this side, it trips on a high pressure cutout immediately.
And I just verified it and it did. It went up to 340 and I shut it down. Now, this side's running fine.
All right, so what doesn't make sense about that is it's one system. Okay?
It's one system and the left side, or the right side from the front, isn't [music] calling.
So, what would make it that when you start up just the left barrel that we get crazy high head pressure if not the restriction just related to the left barrel?
I mean, if it was the water valve, we [music] should be tripping out when we run the right side.
All right, so I just did a screen capture that just kind of showed I went to the front and I pulled products [music] and we jumped up to 340. It didn't cut out yet. It lives at 333, [music] 340 and then it cuts. And no amount of wedging this open releases the water. So, we've just got a We've got a locked down water valve. Okay, so because this is a glycol system, this is not a a city water system where we're pumping water in and then right down the drain. We're just using [music] a glycol loop.
We could, it's not a good idea, but since it's summertime, you could pull this all together and just inline the hoses. And then you just have water running through this machine all the time. That's going to create a problem in low ambient, but for now, for the summer, it would get you through.
Um I'm not because I have the valve. So, I'm going to change the the valve proper. Now, [music] the original one's towards in.
I'm going here.
So, I don't have to violate the refrigeration system.
Now, you can't remove the other one, so we're going to zip tie it. Make sure it's not going to rub out. You need to it doesn't rub out cuz it's part of the refrigerant system right now.
And there's Nylog and a [music] little tape.
I got a call to come wire up this uh ice machine.
They said there was power here, but uh Mhm.
And it was uh 240.
So, the electrician pulled me a whip, which I run over here to this disconnect. The reason I put the disconnect here is that they want to store boxes here. They want to store boxes on the top, and they want to store stuff here. So, putting my disconnect there is fine.
And I'm going to go ahead and tap it into the unit here.
And then I see that, and I go, "Uh-oh."
Bum bum bum.
That's a remote condensing ice head, my friends.
That is a remote condensing head, and they we are in the basement of a downtown building that ain't getting no condenser outside. So, bum bum bum. Also, um this unit they plugged in, and she was 75.
What I found was this on the low side and the unit completely out of gas.
So, what we did was we added a service port there. We added a service port there. We pulled a vacuum, weighed it in with its 134, but a bing.
Uh owner's on his way back with the a proper ice machine. While we're here, he wants us to go ahead and swap it. So, always something.
