When college football programs recruit transfer players, they must balance the desire to acquire talent with the need to establish clear expectations and accountability; players who fail to meet practice requirements or show inconsistent effort may face disciplinary action, as demonstrated by the Chaz Coleman situation at Tennessee where his absence from summer workouts and social media activity during spring camp raised concerns about his commitment to the team.

He's Gone?! | Chaz Coleman Update | Tennessee Vols FootballAdded:
Welcome to the Talking Balls Network. My name is Boogie Bentley. I'm back down here in the interrogation room with this lighting setup. Hopefully we get it fixed later today and we'll dial back in, but the Chaz Coleman saga continues.
Made a video yesterday on Chaz. Of course, transferred here from Penn State back in January, which was a huge win for Tennessee in the transfer portal.
It's pretty safe to sit here and say that Tennessee dropped a bag to land the number one ranked edge rusher available in the portal. And I think that's what really has made this whole situation worse. Look, people expect some type of return on the investment that was made financially. Add in on top of the money, uh you add in the Nico situation and how that played out. Follow it up with the Boo Carter situation. People have a pretty low tolerance right now as a Tennessee fan. It seems like every single year we're dealing with some type of diva, we're dealing with some type of drama. And again, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes uh with Chaz Coleman and what his issues are, but the bottom line is our tolerance level is low. We've got some very interesting comments from Austin Price that I want to get into. Is Chaz Coleman on the verge of being kicked off this football team? We're going to get into it. Hey, real quick, do me a favor. We're going to talk about it. Smash the thumbs up, subscribe, and click that bell for notifications. That way you don't miss out. Let's go look at this tweet that came out yesterday after I put out the video.
It becomes official.
You can see the tweet there from Pete Nakos. Tennessee edge Chaz Coleman has yet to report to Knoxville for summer workouts, sources tell Chris Low and me for on three. Voluntary workouts began earlier this week. They've got a quote from Josh Heupel that says Chaz has been dealing with some things and we're here to support him. We'll continue to go through that process. Now, let's kind of recap a little bit if you missed the video from yesterday. I played a clip from Austin Price. He was on the Sports Animal last week. Uh, he said that players would return to campus over the weekend and workouts would begin early in the week. Now, we never got any exact times. We never got any deadlines. We never got when those first workouts were going to be. Now, we see Pete Nakos talking about it and he mentions voluntary workouts. Let me do it like this. Voluntary, right? We all know these workouts are not voluntary. So, you're expected to be there. You're expected to go through these workouts.
But, I ask the question, what is the expectation for Chaz Coleman? Because according to Austin Price, he was not expected to be in town until yesterday. And that's why I put out the video talking about it.
All eyes were on Chaz Coleman yesterday.
Yesterday being Tuesday. But, guess what? Chaz Coleman did not show up at all yesterday. Brent Hubbs of Volquest reported on it. Said the Tennessee football team has started its summer workout program and the Vols have done so without transfer defensive end Chaz Coleman. Coleman, who didn't finish spring practice or spring semester workouts, has been dealing with some ongoing personal issues. So, where does Josh Heupel go with this situation? And man, some of you guys in the comment section have some strong opinions on that. And that's okay. I'm I'm open to that. I'm welcome to that. That's what we do on the Talking Vols Network. You voice your opinion. If I agree, disagree, we can have a conversation. We can keep it civil and we can move on.
But, some of you guys are ready. You You don't need the details. You don't need the specifics. You are ready to move on from Chaz Coleman. And again, you look at the situation. You look at it from Josh Heupel's standpoint. you look at it from the locker room standpoint, and we can look at it from the team or or or from a fan's perspective, right? We just dealt with a bunch of drama from Nico Iamaleava. And then there's always the quote when we went through that situation where Josh Heupel said, "Nobody's bigger than the team." Well, is is that true? Because it certainly felt like Boo Carter was bigger than the team. That situation with Boo Carter certainly played out for a long period of time. And you know, going back to that, I I I I was behind Josh Heupel giving Boo Carter an extra opportunity. How that work out for him?
Right? It didn't work out very good. You can question You You can maybe throw out some conspiracies that there were locker room issues last year because of Boo Carter. Is that the truth? I don't know.
Again, speculation.
Was it too little, too late when Boo Carter was finally kicked off the team, when the rubber finally met the road? We go back to the quote from Josh Heupel on Chas Coeman. He says, "Chas Coleman has been dealing with some things, and we're here to support him. We'll continue to go through that process." Well, what does that process look like? What's the expectation for Chas Coleman? Does he just get to show up whenever he feels like it? Is there a deadline? Is there a date? It's hard for me to sit here and draw a line in the sand because I don't know what Chas is actually dealing with, right? I don't have all the details. It's all been so vague. We've mentioned the comments from Hubbs and AP. Uh and I can go back to those. You know, he said he battled some vertigo stuff, seems to be getting that figured out. He's got to continue to stack days in practice more complete. Again, the vertigo stuff is in the rearview mirror.
That was more uh back back earlier. It's not really during the summer workouts.
It's not really even been through spring workouts. That was more when he first transferred to campus. Now, could that flare up again? Possibly. I don't know.
I'm not a doctor. We saw more comments like, "Lots of talent and skill. Needs to be more consistent."
Consistency. What does that mean? What does that mean? What is What is expected of Chas Coleman to be more consistent?"
Another comment, "He's all right.
They're looking for him to find another gear." Again, speculation and and I get why some of the comments are so aggressive and you're ready to move on from Chas Coleman because when you read this, when you look at it, and again, speculation, it certainly sounds like laziness to me, right? Needs to be more consistent. Needs to show up on time.
Needs to find another gear. Needs to learn how to practice.
Upset Chas is obviously dealing with personal things and if he's going to be a factor in this ball, he's got to practice. Well, obviously, you got to show up. You got to practice.
Says he'll need to have a really good fall camp. We saw the rumors from Tony Basilio that he was homesick, wanted to be closer to home, he missed his family.
We're going to move a sibling down to Knoxville so they can be around him. And then Austin Price shut all that down.
Austin Price said that's not the reality. That's not the truth. That's not what Chas Coleman is is dealing with. So, if it's not the vertigo issues, if it's not being homesick, then what is it? And I'll tell you what doesn't help the Chas Coleman situation.
It's stuff like this. Let me go back to the tweet here. Let's go down to the comment section. Again, this is the Pete Nacos tweet. You scroll down to the comment section and you see this from one of you guys, Real Deal Vols. He says, "Chas dealing with things." This is Chas dealing with with things. And what this is uh this is this is from his Instagram, right? This is this is from his Instagram. So, this when you see the way that this plays out, you go to the comment section, you see this pop up, highlights from May on his Instagram account. We've talked about production versus potential, right? Only played 144 snaps last year, eight tackles and one sack on the year, but he's going on social media and he's posting pictures with a bunch of cash. This is a bad look. No ifs, ands, or buts. And I'm not saying that that you can't have mental health issues or you can't have problems or you don't have to deal with things if you're getting paid, but this is a bad look. When you're not showing up to practice. And again, we can look at the timeline. It says right there that this is his May highlights. So, all this stuff is going out on social media in May. Where were you at there in spring camp? Where were you at on the back half of spring practice? You were nowhere to be seen, but yet in May, we're posting arms full of cash. This is a bad look.
And now, if you go try to look up his Instagram now, the account has since been deleted. I don't know, man.
I don't know. There's tons of speculation on our part. I I get I get I get why you see a picture like this and you get out rate and and you see that Chaz Coleman has not been at the back half of spring camp. You see that Chaz Coleman didn't show up for summer workouts. I get it. It's not hard for me to get there and get fired up and and and be ready to move on from Chaz Coleman the same way that some of you got guys are. I just don't know what's going on behind the scenes. And really, the the hardest thing for me is that the thing I can't wrap my head around is how Jim Knowles and Coach AJ worked directly with Chaz Coleman last season at Penn State for a full year. Now, can people change? Can it Can it happen like that?
Of course. Yeah, of course people can change. But you would think that working with a kid for a full season would get give you a pretty good indicator of what you're getting into, what you're getting, what you're signing up for when you go and get Chaz Coleman in the transfer portal. Now, where really gets interesting for me, Austin Price last night over at Volquest, he posted this. "I'm well aware of the optics and the frustrations. I would bet that Tennessee is likely getting their ducks in a row if I were a betting man." Getting their ducks in a row for what? Again, now, I'm sitting here, I'm reading the tea leaves. That's what we do sometimes. But that certainly sounds to me like Chaz Coleman's time at Tennessee could be coming to an end. Was that the final straw? The way that the spring played out was the final straw. We talk about the expectations. What were the expectations for Chaz Coleman? Was the expectation simply to show up on Tuesday? Was that it? And he missed it, didn't get it done. Now Tennessee is getting their ducks in a row. Again, the quote from Austin Price, I would I would bet that Tennessee is getting their ducks in a row if I were a betting man.
Is Chaz Coleman gone? Is he on the way out the door? What are your thoughts?
