5 Days in Florida - 11-Year-Old Wildlife Photographer Photographs Birds追加:
Right now, we're heading to the airport and we're going to Orlando, Florida. And I'm super excited. Um, but I'll see you at the airport.
We just got some snacks with the plane.
We finally got our rental car and now we're driving. There's birds everywhere.
Um it's kind of a cloudy day, but I think it's still going to be good um for taking some photos, but yeah, I'm super excited and hopeful hopefully we'll see a lot of birds. So, we just got some food and um we came to the first park here and it's super cool. It looks super tropical and I'm super excited. I'm hearing birds. Um but let's go see if we can see them.
Although we did hear a short-tailed hawk, there wasn't much birds around, so we decided to head somewhere else.
Let's go.
There's so many lifers here that I've never seen.
And this is just paradise. I'm so happy right now. There's ibises, which I've never seen.
There's one of these ducks with the chick. It's so cute.
So, these are muscoi ducks and um they're really cool. They have these bald red faces and they're Yeah, it's the first time I've seen them. So, it's a lifer for me.
Lifer lier. I just saw a Eurasian collar dove. Um, I haven't seen them where where I live, but uh they are here.
Here's some history on Orlando. Although Orlando might be famous for Disney, it's actually really good for wildlife because it's surrounded with wetlands, lakes, and a bunch of other really good habitats for wildlife. Some species that you'll see are white ibises, limpkins, northern cardinals, redbellied woodpeckers, great egrets, great blue herand, and a bunch of other birds. And we can't forget my favorite bird, the osprey.
Oh.
Oh, massive har.
That thing's insanely big. Wa. Look at it. Damn.
Birds are just cool. They could just fly.
He literally looked me directly in the eyes as he was flying above. That's so cool.
Uh, so there's a lifer right here. An Inca. I've never seen one. And they're really cool. Um, let me see if I could get a little closer.
We just saw a warbler here. Um, and it's still winter. Uh, warblers aren't here until spring, um, where we live, but it's warm here, so they're already here.
And there's a bunch of ducks and ibises, bunch of muscoi ducks. It's just awesome.
The grles are here. It's about to fly.
Try to get a shot.
Um, so this has been awesome and uh this is the end of day one. We'll see you tomorrow. We saw a bunch of birds. Maybe I got some of the best photos maybe in my life here today. This is so fun and cool. Um, I'm super excited tomorrow.
Um, but I'll see you there. Tomorrow morning, we're going to wake up very early and go to Lake Apopa Wildlife Drive. I'm super excited.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Hey, hey, hey.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
There's so many spoon bills nesting and herand all of them nesting. It's nesting season right now and they're all in their breeding bloom just great blue heron. Um, yeah, it's just amazing. And there's so many birds. Oo, osprey.
Heat. Heat.
Before Cailey left, I just wanted to do a quick interview with her. So, here it is. So, I'm here with Celi Mreini. Um she's an awesome wildlife photographer and um we've we're in Orlando, Florida right now. Um and we've been photographing wildlife um for this weekend and I'm super excited to interview her. So, how did you get into wildlife photography? I've been photographing for about seven years and I started taking pictures of plants and then I started taking pictures of birds and then I had an opportunity to go to the Pantanau in Brazil to photograph the jaguars and so I loved it so much that uh I kept going back and today I am a certified guide in the Pantanau uh specializing in jaguar sightings. Uh, so speaking of the Pontanau, um, how did you become a guide there?
>> I, uh, had to take some classes and become a certified guide. Uh, I love Pontanau because you don't only photograph jaguars, but you have all kinds of birds. And that is really cool because I take my camera and I just go and I just take pictures of whatever it's there that is interesting and and pretty.
>> Why do you like wildlife photography? I love wildlife photography because animals are super interesting and being in nature makes me calmer. Uh it connects me with special people like you uh and your family and I love that. I love knowing that nature has given me gifts and um I just love being in nature.
>> Yeah. So now what is your main setup, gear and settings you use mostly? I use Nikon and setups are complicated because sometimes you as you know the light changes so we need to be you know changing settings. Uh I have two lenses.
I have one that is an NICOR 180 to 600 and the other one is a uh 800 fixed. Um, so there are challenges like yesterday for example when we were photographing the spoon bills. I had to go back a little bit because of the the range and so you know every day is a different a different setup.
>> Some quick questions. Um, what's your favorite bird?
>> I love raptures and I think my favorite bird is the bald eagle.
>> Okay. And um, what is your favorite photo you've taken so far?
>> A favorite photo? So, I was in the Pontanau and uh I was uh taking pictures of a uh capiara family and so this baby capivara was sitting there and this little bird came and kind of packed her nose and I took the picture and it's the cutest thing because it was a baby capara and a baby bird.
>> Yeah, I saw it was like looking at the camera just like >> Yes, it was really cute.
>> The bird was on the head.
>> Yes, really cute.
So, I want to know from you, uh, what do you think about this weekend?
>> It was awesome. We saw I I I started at likeund like 20 species. Now I'm at like almost 140. I saw so many lifers >> and um I didn't know I there was just so many birds. It was just awesome.
>> So, we went to two places. We went to Lake Apaka Wildlife Drive and we went to the Orlando wetlands. What was your favorite and what do you think about those places?
>> I feel like they were equal because um the Orlando wetlands was insane. There was like millions of spoon bills and wood storks which are lifers and they were all it's nesting season so they're all nesting and in breeding plumage and um Lake Apaka wildlife drive was insane.
We just came back and I saw like I've never seen so many herand in one spot in my life. Um, so I think they're equal.
>> Yeah. It was great having you here and I hope you come back one time to see more things with us.
>> Yeah. Before we go, where can anyone like find you on social media or >> I am on Instagram and also on my website?
>> Uh, what's your website called?
>> It's siblimini.com.
>> That was the interview and I hope you enjoyed it.
There's a reddish uh actually I don't know if it is a reddish egret but it might be and if it is um I've seen every egret in North America which is really cool and it turns out it was We're at um Merit Island National Wildlife Refuge and we're doing the wildlife drive right now. And there's a bunch of turns coming here and flying, diving in and catching fish. And I'm getting some really cool shots. This is just like awesome.
Yeah. Look at this.
There's a king fisher right here. This is the best king fisher I've ever seen for a photo. I've never been this close.
Um, he's not flying, which is insane.
Oh, he just flew. As I said that, >> he kept on flying, but finally I got him.
something. Caveral National Seashore I think Cape Canaveral Seashore um national seashore. We just met this guy.
He's a burer and he said a bunch of lifers that he saw there. So hopefully I'll also see them and get some photos too. So let's go.
There's so many lifers already. There's a bunch of ruddy turnstones here.
Um, which are lifers, too. So, this is so fun.
Will it? Okay.
So, there's brown pelicans flying right over here. And they're lifers, too.
This is so fun. Oh my god, I love the beach. The birds are awesome at the beach.
So this was super yummy. We just ate at Sakuita um ice cream. Um and it was really good.
I got the ube flavor. It was like purple. I thought it I thought it was going to taste weird, but it literally tasted like cookies and cream. Now we're going to go to um me Botanical Garden.
So, we're going to go there and look for some birds. And our flight actually got cancelled um because um there it would be like stormy. So, it might be dangerous for flying. um back. So, they canled our flight, but I'm actually kind of glad cuz now we get to stay more and see more birds.
>> We were heading to Me, but little did I know what surprise was coming next.
There's two part owls right here.
I've never seen them in the wild, so this is really cool. I've barely seen owls. And they're right here with the baby feeding it.
Heat up here.
We've been searching for an owl for as long as I've been start I've started birding which was about a year ago like a year and a quarter ago something like that. But there's a b owl right back there. We finally saw it. But yeah, let's go look for some smaller birds.
We're not really seeing anything except for that owl. So, I think we're going to head back and go to our hotel. Let's go.
Um.
Oh my god. Come look at this.
So cool.
It's literally so cold right now. Like my arms are in my sweatshirt.
There's a red shoulder duck. He just flew and he was doing some cool stuff like opening his mouth and shaking and breathing.
So, it's like 10:58. Um, this place opens. I mean, not 10:58, sorry. 9:58.
Um, this place opens at 10:00. We're just going to go get some like hot chocolate. Um, we should probably go get going. They're probably opening up. So, let's go.
Oh, that's good.
Let's get some crepes.
So, right now we're waiting for our crepes. We're at Crepe Delicious. Um it looks like it's going to be really good.
Um but after this we're going to go to Crane's Roost Park. We did it on I think the first day we were here. Um but now we're going to go again for the second time and it was really good there. Um so I'm excited to go back.
Look at this. This is insane, bro. It looks so good.
Going to the Guitar Center.
So, the light is a little too harsh and bright. It's like mid bright daylight, so it's not really good for photography.
So, we're just going to go to me again.
Maybe we'll see the owl again. Um, but then later we'll go to Cranes Roost Park and hopefully get some evening shots.
And I think it's going to be really fun.
There's like kids and people yelling whatever families.
They don't even know there's two owls right above them. It's the adult with the baby. It's still in the same spot.
The adult when we left, he was there and then we just came back and now the baby is next to him in the same spot. Oh my god, we This place is so good. I've never seen like owls in the wild. This is I love it. I still hadn't seen a smaller bird like I hoped for yesterday, but then this happened there.
I got the black and white warbler on camera. He was on the tree. Let's go.
>> Now the small birds were everywhere.
I just saw a lifer. Um, it was a swallowtailed kite and it's a lifer. I'm so happy right now. So, it's almost the end of our trip. We stopped for food here. Um, but we're going to go to our last place, Crane Roost Park. Um, I'm excited for that. But then, uh, we'll sleep and then in the morning we'll go.
So, this was an awesome trip and I just love it.
Now, we are at Cranes Roost Park. This is the last spot we're going to for this trip. It's sad, but also exciting cuz we might see some really cool things. Yeah, we're going to walk around and I have this peanut because there's a lot of squirrels here and they're not very shy.
Let's go see what we can find and hopefully I'll get some good shots. The swallows are way too hard to photograph.
They're so fast and they're like boom boom boom. It's so hard.
