Worm grunting is a traditional fishing technique practiced in Wakulla County, Florida, where a metal tool (roofing iron) is driven into the ground and vibrated to create sounds that attract earthworms, which are then used as live bait for fishing. This technique, passed down through generations, relies on the principle that worms respond to specific vibrations in the soil, making it particularly effective for catching panfish and other species. The method requires specific equipment, proper technique, and favorable weather conditions, with local native worms being most effective.

3 days Fishing the Forgotten Coast of FloridaAdded:
Guys, I got another one for you today. I am on the forgotten coast of Florida, Wakulla County. I'm going to spend the next three days with a couple of my buddies staying at a cool fish camp, doing a little offshore fishing, little inshore fishing, and we're going to have a good time. You guys are riding along.
Well, we are here. We are at an old Florida fish camp.
Uh what is it? What is it? Shell >> Shell Island.
>> Shell Island fish camp. Never been here before in my life. I have been in the area about 20 years ago, but this particular fish camp I've never been.
We're just kind of checking it out.
Looks like I got some old cabins and In-N-Out service and bait. Right. A little bit early here. We go see if we can check into our rooms.
Oh, we just got our keys and are checked in here, but I wanted to walk out on the dock here because I I saw something that's kind of Cool. I don't know if these are rental boats or not, but they're old Prolines. You don't see a whole lot of them anymore.
>> Proline flatbacks here. That's pretty cool boat.
I'll have to ask if you can rent those or not. I'm not sure.
But yeah, there's a spot the old school Florida fish camp if I've ever seen one.
Oh, look at those tarpon. Dude, you'd have thought we were in the Keys.
I don't know if you guys can see that, but there are two, >> three, four, >> four just absolute monster tarpon. We're not talking about little 60 lb. Them are 150 lbers.
>> Yeah, that that one in the middle is the size of >> Okay, there you can see it right there.
Monsters.
>> Wow.
>> Oh, they're waiting to get fed.
>> Yeah, you'd have thought we were in the keys.
>> Dangle your hand in there. M.
He sees my Snickers.
That's cool. Those boats are cool.
All right.
I'm all the way down here in one of these little tiny cabins.
See what we got here.
205.
Not bad. Me and Will just hopped back in the truck, left the fish camp, and we're headed to Wakulla Springs. Now, I haven't been to Wakulla Springs in 20some years. Uh many years ago, I lived in Tallahassee for a couple years, and uh we would go down there and swim, but they have a lodge there and I believe we're having dinner. Um, so it'll be interesting to see after all these years what it's like.
This is Wakulla Springs. It is directly behind the lodge here. Oh, there goes an alligator. See him?
We used to come out here, like I said, 20some years ago and uh swim and have a good time.
You see all that currents from I believe this is a first magnitude spring. Very cool place to come and swim.
Thank you, buddy.
>> Well, good thing you wore your nicest flip flops.
>> They are my good flip flops. They're my only flip flops.
>> Yeah, this place is cool.
We're having dinner at the lodge, guys.
I got some fried shrimp, >> but I I was thoroughly out ordered by oil. Thank you.
>> Look at that. Shrimp and grits look amazing.
>> Mess up, man.
>> Yeah, I I probably should have got that.
>> But uh we're just chatting it up with the folks and having a delicious meal.
So Oh, we're back at the fish camp. Look at this place, y'all. It's a hell of a view.
That's me. That's Lawless Tide. You guys are going to meet him. That's Will. You guys know about him. I just seen old Craig and and told you Craig's here, too. So, we got Cooking with Clams, Georgia Boys, Lawless Tide, and Tug Trash Outdoors. All together.
>> Look at guys. YouTubers in the Wild. We have Craig James filming fishing on the dock.
>> Awesome meeting you, >> too. That's great stuff there to hear about your parents.
>> Well, we was just hanging out down on the dock and carrying on and cutting up and some fans came down and were chitchatting with us. But, uh, I got to be up at 5:00 in the morning. We'll go lay down. I'll see you guys then.
Good morning, guys. Just waking up here, Shell Island Fish Camp. Um, we got a quick little run over to Panacea, I think to Rock Island Boat Ramp, um, and meet up with Real Integrity Charters.
Now you're talking, but uh, I don't know if they'll have it.
I decided to play Russian roulette with my stomach, get a gas station burrito, little Coke.
Here comes Craig.
This is it. He's running a 31 Jupiter.
Captain Joel here. Comfortable boat.
He's already got bean bags ready. We got a little bit of a run.
>> We got about 10 miles. We'll stop and get our live bait and then we'll go about another 30 and we'll get fishing.
>> He was a mad man.
I think we're making a little bait stop here, guys.
We pulled about six, seven of those traps loaded up on pin fish. We got about a 20 25 mile run. A little breezy this morning, but the wind's laying down all the time.
How you feeling, bud?
>> Not bad.
>> Will is a little worried, but I think he's going to be fine.
>> Still worried.
>> He's going to be a little fine.
>> I keep telling him everything's going to be fine.
>> Here, I'm going to put all I'm going to put this right here. Over here we have a lot of lime rock bottom where it it's it's flat and hard like concrete and there's holes in it and the ledge like the undercut will be like this and the fish are back up underneath but it's it's hard flat bottom like Swiss cheese bottom like Swiss cheese bottom that's a good way to put it >> going up through both lips >> right out the Guys, we just rolled up to the first spot. Kind of getting positioned right now. Little bit of jigging, a little bit of live bait and dead bait.
>> All right, guys.
>> Will's already got a grouper in the boat.
>> One coming up, guys.
>> Everybody's putting grouper in the boat.
He's digging >> a dirty dog.
>> Remember to breathe.
>> I hear somebody working out there.
>> I feel I hear lifting.
>> Oh, we got a gag.
>> Get a good picture with him.
>> Look, he's barely hooked, so be careful.
Get a good picture.
>> Will was talking some smack earlier, but uh he had some real small fish.
>> Yeah, I'll just grab it like that.
Little gag. We got to let these things go though, unfortunately, cuz the uh Noah says they're endangered.
>> Release.
>> All right, we going to let this one go, though, guys.
>> Oh, Will's on a monster.
>> He can't even hold on.
>> He's going to lose it.
>> Don't lose it, Will. DON'T LOSE IT, WILL.
>> OH, Will's on a real one.
I'll be right to get the Yeah, it has to be off.
>> All right.
>> Pandemonium, y'all.
>> I just got eight.
>> It's pretty I mean, we're pretty easy going on here.
>> What do you got, Will?
>> My line sea monster.
>> Starting to show now.
>> Oh, another endangered species.
>> Get a good picture with them.
>> That's a little one, huh?
>> Oh my goodness. Now that guy's got to go back.
>> Will just caught a big uh >> red snapper.
>> Yeah, that is a big red snapper going back >> pretty much. That's what it is.
>> Feel like a red >> digging for the catfish with stuff on it.
>> There we go.
>> Got color.
>> What is it? Little grouper. He'll make it. Throw him in there.
>> The thing. And I know everyone knows how to fish.
>> Let me see that.
>> Be looking for that hook. You know, >> little legal red grouper, y'all.
>> Yep.
>> Work. You guys are doing >> Thank you, buddy.
>> I think that one was mine though, Will.
>> Definitely not.
>> So, I think everybody on the boat just caught I caught a gag, a red. I think everyone might have just caught one keeper red. Um, we're five minutes into the trip. We're going to move. It's kind of the name of the game. You keep moving spots. You don't just sit and burn on one spot.
>> Hunter, tell me the regulations on Red Grouper.
>> Um, so they got to be 20 in um to a person.
>> Two a person. So we could have what for the boat? 12 >> deck hands. Deck hands and crew members don't count with y'all. So >> yeah.
>> 12. Yeah.
>> Nice. And gag grouper is closed.
>> Gag grouper's closed. Red snapper's closed. The only thing that's open is coia, king fish, grouper, uh, and all your free fish. Basically, >> I want to catch going to catch me a trophy grunt today.
>> Gone going up here.
>> Yeah.
>> Don't worry. Don't worry about this side of the boat, man. You get back there.
>> How many Hey, how many um gag grouper did you catch just now?
>> I didn't want to. So, everyone I felt bite the hook, I shook them off because I was like, "No, it's a gag."
>> That's how I feel about red snappers. I was like, I don't want to catch no red snappers. So, all I did was I was just just grouper on that drop, you know, only quality, not like Will.
>> I just wanted to see that red snapper.
That's all.
>> I want to know what's going on. I want to know how I did that.
>> I think he had something to do with >> Did you catch a grouper?
>> So, I didn't catch anything.
>> Oh, no.
>> He had a bunch of bait.
>> What I would have done is went and stood next to Will cuz he looked like he was in the right spot.
>> One of the deck can said they thought they seen you filing down my hook. You doled up. I was I squirted all your bait with bleach.
>> Let's see.
>> Camera on.
>> Yeah, the whole boat's hooked up.
>> Yeah.
>> Big red.
>> Oh, yeah. There it is. always roll the same >> Will tried to hook my red snapper.
>> He's always just doing that to me. Paul, >> so that snapper was hungry. It ate both of our hooks. Mine was first, though.
>> I don't know.
>> Who's got braid?
>> Oh, it's got everybody.
>> That's a decent red.
>> That's got to go back. Super super endangered.
>> It's a solid red snapper, guys.
>> We're going to let that one go, though.
>> Will, you want to take a picture with my fish?
>> Smaller than mine.
>> Me and Will just like to have fun with each other.
>> He knows I'm the better fisherman.
>> My bait is freaking out. Feels like a group.
Now the groomer like vibrate on it.
>> Hey, this might get us started.
>> Here we go.
>> Oh, it doubled up.
>> All right, put Chris back on the bait and hunter's jig. I'm just >> getting work. My fish isn't that big.
>> Watch the line, buddy.
>> What do we got?
>> Little baby grouper.
>> Pass it to me.
>> Yeah, I got it.
>> Miniature gag. We'll put that one back.
Leaving to Hunter to get the party started.
>> Hunter got to show everybody how it's done.
>> That's right.
>> Smallest rod on the boat.
>> That's right.
>> First drop of the day for Hunter.
>> No pressure, man. You got to get this thing up, though.
>> Oh, man.
>> No pressure at all.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Big snap.
>> Catch a bigger fish than you. You got to handle that thing.
>> Slack off. Slack off.
>> I am. I am.
>> Oh my god.
>> Oh, very in danger.
>> Nice job, dude.
>> That's a meatball.
>> Live bait. I'm getting tagged.
>> Yeah.
>> Smaller fish.
>> Smaller fish.
>> There you go.
>> Little red.
>> Little red. That'll probably go back though. Oh, he's barely hooked. Hold on.
>> He's lassoed.
>> That's That takes skill, you guys. A lot of people can just hook him. I lasso him. Oh, look at that.
>> Boys are hooking up. Little red grouper came on. He's hooked up on the jig there. I just finished my lunch.
>> Here we go.
>> Small red.
>> Okay, I guess it's going to go away.
>> Will, the dead bait's working really good.
>> Yeah. Go. Dead in line. Dead and live.
>> I'm just messing with him.
>> Come on.
>> OH, HE'S ON.
>> YEAH, IT'S WORKING pretty good.
>> Oh, he's on.
>> Oh, I just like talking smack.
>> Thank you.
>> There he is.
>> They're starting by a little bit. Y'all see that tide changing a little bit?
Like I said, around lunchtime, >> you got a big one. And now tide's changing.
>> Steady cranking.
Get that co >> cranking.
>> Oh, big boy are done.
>> You got a good one.
>> Oh my nuts.
>> I agree on the snappers. There you go.
>> All right, we got color.
>> I'm coming.
>> Guess the boss.
>> The whole boat hooks up.
>> My bad.
>> Big red snapper.
>> You think the tide changed, y'all, or what?
>> He's just right in the corner of Oh, >> here. Watch.
>> That works.
Woo!
>> Thank you, buddy.
>> That's a good fish.
>> All right, here's that red snapper. We just tripled up on him. We're going to We're going to do a little maybe thumbnail picture up on the front of the boat, I think.
Craig, it's impolite to catch one bigger than me like that.
>> You want me to hold anyone else's camera up?
>> No. You could set that one down if you want. But it's good. Can >> you put my camera on top of my head, please?
>> No.
>> Please.
>> Oh my god.
>> Jerk face.
>> Let me hold your camera for you.
>> Look at this. This is real friendship here, guys.
>> Being weird.
>> I might have you reel in this crank the handle for you.
>> Okay. Okay.
>> Mr. Hotands over here been catching fish all day.
>> Big red.
>> I hope so.
>> Put it in the rod holder and just crank.
>> If I can get it there.
>> Put it in low gear and crank.
There you go. There you go.
>> This is on my >> Just crank crank. Crank. Yes, it's on.
>> You sure?
>> I'm sure. You might have just turned it off.
>> I didn't touch it. What do you think it is? Take a bet.
>> I don't know.
>> If it is, it's a very large one.
>> All right, we got color.
>> Looks like one of the big endangered red snappers.
>> Woo! Think he's got like a little raora on him.
>> Smoked it.
>> Good job.
>> Yeah.
Well, we we're making a move now that the deck is just a mess cuz we caught so many fish. That actually be good.
We're making four videos on here today.
You guys just saw what I caught for the most part. Will I think caught possibly the most fish? I don't know. Probably not. Um Craig caught big huge gag grouper. These guys had a bunch of grouper. Um, so you watch each individual video and you'll see all the fish we were catching.
Not just me, >> guys. Look at Craig up there being a YouTuber.
>> That's the first drop.
>> That's See, that's how it's supposed to be when you know they're there. That's how it's supposed to be.
>> I was paying attention. I'm like, I'm going to try to get this in before everybody else.
>> Oh my god.
>> Just keep on. You just got to keep on hunting hard.
>> What do you got? Big red.
>> If if if Hunter got one, they're thick.
I just got absolutely man.
>> Gotcha.
>> A little more excited.
>> It's a good one here. Yeah.
>> 10 seconds. That was >> pretty fish, guys.
>> Good fish, don't you?
>> All right, guys. We got the ice box loaded down.
Hell of a day. Hell of a day. Craig's coming back to beat me up for creeping on him.
So, this is Captain Joel, >> Real Integrity.
>> Real Integrity out of Panacea, Florida.
>> What's the best way to get a hold of you?
>> Just call my phone number 850-510-2778 or I got a website online. Real Integrity Chargers >> and I'll put all the information on the screen and in the description of this video. We're fishing with them again tomorrow, so this ain't over yet. We got a box full of grouper. All right, got to ride in. Everybody get comfortable. Bean bags. Way to roll.
>> Right, guys. Quick.
>> There you go. You get And if you were wondering, he runs a Jupiter 31. Um, I think those are twin 300 Yamahas. It was kind of snotty this morning and that boat rode great. Super dry. Definitely recommend uh fishing with real integrity. We had a blast. And like I said, I was really only filming the fish I caught. Everybody else was whacking and stacking as well. It was a really good day.
Visit Wakulla has set this up for us.
We're going over to Civic Brewery. Now, everybody's hungry. Fished all day. Joel and them are actually going to take care of the fish for us. We go have some dinner. And uh we'll be back here tomorrow morning to meet up with Joel and his crew and do some more fishing.
Hunter Hunter's calling his mom to see if he can fish with us tomorrow. He does technically have school. He's a senior.
So, we're going to see what she says.
>> My beautiful mama. I I don't know what >> they want me to come back more.
>> I told her across the street.
>> Can he come?
>> Can he come?
>> Can Hunter come over and play tomorrow?
>> Last day. Last day.
>> All right. I love you. Thank you.
>> Let's go.
>> Hunter's fishing with us tomorrow. You know what?
>> There's a lot of things you can learn in life that aren't necessarily at the schoolhouse.
>> Turn the water on. There is an alligator down there, guys.
I don't think you can see it. If I was a real YouTuber, I would put this thing on my selfie stick and stick it down there.
>> That's what you got. All those fish I caught today on camera, you know.
>> Oh, you know, even a blind squirrel, buddy.
>> He's not a happy alligator.
to get Joe's a lot a lot nicer than me.
All right, guys.
We got all cleaned up. We're going to go get some pizza in Sop Choppy, Florida.
Fun fact, that is the worm grunting capital of America.
>> Let's go. Pizza.
>> Pizza.
How I How'd I wind up in the front? I I can tell you we all smell much better than when we got off the boat today.
>> Just a touch.
>> Think we're going a place called Civic Brewing.
Old school sap choppy guys.
Don't really know where we're going.
>> Thank you.
So, we get drinks in here and pizza outside >> here, too.
>> Okay.
>> Retired from NASA.
>> She doesn't do anything.
Now, >> when is the worm gruntton festival?
Isn't there a festival?
>> Just about uh two weeks ago.
>> It's the second Saturday.
>> Wow, that's a lot bigger than I thought.
>> I'm yet to to make it to one.
>> Something to look forward to.
>> Missed it since that buffalo chicken.
>> I've not missed.
>> Yeah, I haven't been to it since.
>> All right. Well, we had some really good pizza and wings. We're going back to uh Shell Island Fish Camp. I think we're all gonna go to bed. I'm a little bit >> slumbered.
>> Sorry, man.
>> Definitely gonna lay down, that's for sure.
>> At Civic Brewery, guys, in the city of Sock Choppy, Florida, which as I mentioned before is the worm grunting capital of the United States.
>> The worm grunting capital of the United States.
>> Of the world. Really?
>> Really?
>> We back at camp, y'all.

>> Stay salty.
You see the triple take that little kid?
>> Yeah.
>> He said Tug Ch just held the door open for me.
>> That is amazing.
>> Good morning.
A little breakfast burrito, guys. Put some hot sauce on my burrito.
>> You know what that's from on Friday?
>> Yeah.
>> When his dad is driving.
All right, we got the three musketeers back. We're headed back to meet up with uh Captain >> Joel.
>> Captain Joel. I keep call going to call him Captain Jamie. I'm sorry, Joel. But uh going to meet up with Captain Joel, Real Integrity, for a half day today.
There's some wind forecasted. We did hit Rocky's for a breakfast burrito. Again, if you're in this area, that was the best gas station breakfast burrito I've had in probably 10 years. But uh Rock, what is it? Rock Creek Landing. Rock Island Landing. We're going to a boat ramp in Panacea.
All right, we're back at uh Rock Landing. Boat ramp.
>> Let's go.
>> Sorry we're late.
>> Will was taking a dump.
>> Yeah.
So we So we definitely got some weather coming.
>> Yes, we do. See it?
>> Yeah.
>> Sorry, Deckan working hard.
>> I'm just messing with you. Don't worry.
All right. So, we just cleared the pass and it's blowing out here. We kind of knew it. Uh they were predicting it, but we thought we'd poke our head out and have a look. And it's blowing to go where we wanted to do and go to try to catch these hogfish.
It had been like another 10 miles of miserableness and it's supposed to just build throughout the day. What we're going to do is they made a call. They called a commercial crab and said, "Can we grab some crabs out of one of your traps?" We're going to do that. We're going to rebait it and uh we're going to go hopefully try to catch some big black drum or just anything on the inshore side.
>> That's all we need right there.
>> Get all the crab be a snack in it of itself right there.
You guys know I like my crabs.
>> Y'all take your time. And hey, just use a group.
>> Hey guys, with with four YouTubers on here, we're all constantly holding a camera and then trying not to step on each other's toes. But at this point, we're just having a good time. Here you can see a YouTuber in the wild.
>> But this is Achnney Bay um bridge.
Actually, that side is Wakulla County.
This side is a different county, but uh known for big black drum.
>> One of those real YouTubers in the wild.
>> Will somehow the hottest hand on the boat.
>> I got the touch on this trip.
>> What do you got? It better not be oysters again.
>> Dang it. Will >> showing off. I I >> Oh, he does. He's got a big old black drum.
>> Look at that.
>> Just too.
>> You want me to just grab him?
>> No, I'm just going to gap him down.
>> A little gap.
>> I got him.
>> Show you how I bust down the crab, guys.
>> That's right.
>> I personally like to pop him back so I won't >> like that.
Throw that out for chum. Yeah, she's >> And then you can half them or quarter them. And this is what we're using, guys. Half a crab. You can do a quarter.
You could do a knuckle if you want.
>> N it's oyster bed.
>> Will's just catching oysters.
>> Whoa, whoa, whoa.
>> Caught something.
>> He's only guy on the boat caught a fish today.
>> Listen, Will Will's got the hottest hand on this whole boat. That's 100% a fish.
He's got another big black drum.
>> Let me clear my rod. All right.
>> Holding a black drum clinic up here.
>> You know, I'm not jealous of Will very often, but today's the day.
>> He's on his second big black drum. Hey, watch that trolling motor, Will.
>> Yeah. No, he's he's right here.
>> It was a big one, too.
>> Yeah.
>> Bigger than the first one.
>> Jerk.
Dad.
>> No, I'm I'm happy for him, guys. It just doesn't seem like it.
>> When I mean big >> dry hating.
>> You on?
>> Yeah.
>> All right.
>> What's it feel like?
>> A big fish.
>> Can you move your rod?
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, he's going under the boat.
Red fish. If he's a red fish, I'm stick.
>> Here he comes.
>> Get the red fish. I'm going to stick him. Oh, >> big old black.
>> First day on the boat.
>> Don't let him whoop you. God, >> he just decided he was hooked.
>> I The minute they get to the boat, right?
Ah, >> I'm trying to keep him out of those motors.
>> Now, now it's a boy's trip.
>> Now that my boy's on.
>> This thing's fighting.
>> I've got the leader in the rod tip twice.
>> See him around.
Stay out of that motor.
>> Get him in the lip.
>> There you go, buddy.
>> I'm loose. You got him. Good.
>> Oh, another remorse.
>> Oh, yeah. Look at that, guys. Oh, big ugly.
Oh, man. I was a little jealous. Will caught one, then I got one.
Look at Look at the colors on them.
They're really kind of a pretty fish if you if you get over the ugliness. It's like me.
But we get a little thumbnail picture. I think I'm stoked. That fish fought really, really hard. Harder than those grouper. The circle hook right in the corner of the mouth makes all the difference.
>> And you really got to let those fish eat.
And here, listen, guys.
>> Druming.
>> They make a drumming noise here.
>> Yeah.
>> I have an old clip of them drumming really good. All right. Hear them drumming, guys. We got to let her go.
>> Swam off strong.
>> I'm done for the day, boys. I'm going to sit on the boat and talk smack the whole time.
If you feel him, just reel it, Craig.
>> I'm not trying to tell you what to do.
>> No. No. Definitely.
>> OH, CRAIG'S ON.
>> WHERE'S your camera?
>> See the power?
>> Yeah.
Oh, >> man. He must have got the problem.
>> Back to the draw.
>> That's a pull there.
>> Darn it. I got that clip.
>> The knot.
>> Broken the knot.
>> Nice.
>> I think that's going to be it, guys.
This was just a half day. And we did, we wanted to go out and get some hogfish, but the weather just didn't cooperate.
But a good captain will always adapt, have a plan B, plan C. And we came out here and we connected on some nice big black drum here. Headed back to the ramp and they have a special lunch planned for us with those grouper from yesterday at a place called Posies.
>> All right. So, we got four YouTube channels here. mine plus the glams Jordan boy outdoors almost tied.
>> You guys check them out cuz we all are filming slightly different videos so you can see it from four different perspectives.
>> It's going to see my truck here today.
>> The tourism tourism So, what we did, guys, was actually ice those grouper overnight. Um, it it gives the meat a chance to firm up, get really cold. Captain Joel's going to clean some up for us, but he's going to do a little twist on it. He's going to harvest the collars if he can and the backs and just some some cuts that that sometimes get thrown away. One thing that's super cool about Wakulla County is commercial fishing is a huge industry here and everybody is all connected. The commercial guys, the charter guys, the restaurants, they all work together and um they all know each other. It's very small time feel very much old Florida and just a great place to visit. These guys working on all our grouper from yesterday.
So they they just we just sat down here at Posies. They got us in the back cuz we're a big uh group. Got us all drinks and stuff and they brought out some of the local oysters. Will's already into them. That's why I had to move the plate away from him so I could get some. But >> hold on one second.
>> Salty.
>> That's a good oyster.
track and then >> so you don't like >> cheese and uh you know we want >> collards guys.
>> Oh that's a lot of grouper.
>> Well I got to go get the grill too now.
>> Is that easier to put it over here then we can just help ourselves >> first time having having collard.
>> Yeah it's awesome.
>> It's the best part.
>> I don't know how I live without it.
Yeah, good stuff.
>> All right, guys. This I know this is what y'all want to see me try. So, first you got that crunchy fin right there.
This is like a tater chip.
>> And then >> Yeah, >> there is a little bone in there, but it's mostly meat.
>> Like a chicken wing. The food was delicious here at Posies, guys. If you come to Wakulla, you definitely want to eat here. Well, Posies was awesome. Um, those throats were amazing. I'm really glad that uh they decided to do the throats like that. Um, Will has built a channel on cooking stuff like that. But when we were in Sop Choppy the other day, I mentioned that it's the worm grunting capital of the world and Florida, but the world. Um, so they heard me and there's we're actually going to get to go see a demonstration of what worm grunting is and I don't want to spoil it. So that's where we're headed now.
>> Just just so you all know, from the day we got here, Ian has been talking about worm grunting and that's not even he's brought it up a lot. So >> several times.
>> Several times.
>> So this is this is going to be fun.
>> There was a time, you know, I was looking for ch career change. which I thought about being a worm grunter, but it just didn't work out. I ended up doing YouTube. So, we are back in Sap Chappie.
So, it's part a town in which is a town in Wakulla County, obviously, cuz we're here filming about Wakulla County.
This is where we were fishing out of this morning.
And we're staying off the the map here.
This is where we're at right now.
>> What's going on?
>> Yes, sir. What's going on?
>> I'm excited about this. I didn't I did not know.
>> I was talking about it being the wor grunting capital of the world.
>> Oh, hell. This is getting better and better. Dad, >> you got out and even open that. Why am you going to get that drink on my hand before I grab this iron?
>> Seriously, you're not playing with me on so much.
>> All right. Don't let my dad appreciate >> I'm not going to turn it down by no means >> y'all catch anything.
>> We caught a bunch of red grouper.
>> Yeah. Yes.
>> Well, that's what's wrong with that. And we're exactly where y'all are.
>> And I think you're going to be good at it.
>> All right, guys. So, I think I I just got put on the spot a little bit here.
They want to say who is going to try it.
I thought we were going to get just a demonstration of how worm grunting works and everything, which we are going to get, but I think I think they're going to have me try it. We'll see.
>> I've watched it on YouTube a bunch.
>> So, we going to get a little bit of equipment out here.
>> All right.
>> Just what makes them dance?
>> Yeah.
>> How many years have you been doing this?
>> Uh, ever since I was about 7 years old.
probably >> Yeah.
>> 65 70 years.
>> Oh wow.
>> But not commercially or selling them >> just for your own personal use.
>> Yeah. When I was coming up, we didn't have no commercial.
>> Yeah. If you wanted to go fishing, you needed some worms.
>> Our family.
>> That's how you did it.
>> And the other families and the uncles and aunts and whatever, you know, and uh >> yeah, we uh >> we got them for years and years for any of the commercial stuff coming along.
>> It's funny. I've known about it for years, but I've never seen anyone do it.
>> So, I'm excited to learn.
>> All right. Well, you going to get a chance, too, to do it.
>> Yeah. All right.
>> I've got relatives that done it.
>> I want to say probably 80 years ago.
>> Really?
>> Even my aunts and stuff coming up.
>> Now, do people still do it commercially in the area or is it mostly just keeping it alive?
No, it's just like a, you know, it's like a anything that you a resource, you know, people gets in it, then everybody gets in it, then it goes sour time or two, and then they fall off >> and then it leaves me all alone.
>> All right, let's make some.
>> All right. All right, let's let me >> These worms done mad cuz we standing there messing with them.
>> We had a tough time cuz we didn't get any rain. So me and dad saw the rain on the way out here. I was like, "Wait a minute."
>> That does help.
>> Oh my goodness.
>> How about right here, Dad?
>> It's like It's like all everything's coming together for me cuz I've I was wanted to know about worm grunting for so long.
>> Look at that. It sounded good.
>> When I was about 7 years old, I did it for the family. We did, you know, our parents and I gott >> Now, what are the names of the parts you have there? So, this is a roofing iron.
>> A roofing iron?
>> Yes, sir.
>> Okay.
>> And um you want to come closer? I'll show you something.
>> This is actually where acid off my sweat off my hands. I've had this thing since I was like 8 years old. And this is where my you could see my dad's iron is actually pitted where his hand is actually. And this is where the iron has actually made a little groove from the pimmen wood. That's how long.
>> And pimmen is is that's specific. Yeah.
Yeah. Cuz it it gives it like a it makes it like a dance so it'll sound like a Yeah.
>> Yeah. The thing sounds better my guitar.
>> So that's it right there.
>> All right. You ready for it?
>> That sounded that sounded good.
And you're kind of looking for a certain >> Yeah, I'm I'm I'm listening for that.
So, there's organic um top soil which they're going to reside in mainly.
>> But um I'm trying to find the hard pan cuz once you get in like the sand, the hard pan, the the signal travels, >> makes it vibrate.
>> Yeah. It sends it on out there >> whether they want to listen or not.
Oh man, >> I'm going to go ahead and tune real quick and see here.
>> That's exactly how I sound sleeping.
>> I mean tonight I like I like pressure.
>> See, I drive it down that that'll change the pitch, >> the sound.
>> Yeah. And then when I drive it down a certain depth, >> I know I've got it ready for him. Then >> it going to be y.
>> Oh, they ain't a bunch of water there, are they?
>> I like to get right by him. If one comes up, I can claim him.
>> He's still a premise.
>> I got to ask this. the best.
>> He's had a little work experience.
>> I think it's patience.
>> Get a little I just get want to move move off from him. He'll hold strong.
>> Fisherman keeps beating down.
I don't like it anyway.
>> I don't know if you guys can see that, but the ground is literally trembling.
>> Yes, sir.
>> I can feel it. We're standing here and I can feel it like bass.
>> Yeah, his sounds better than mine for some reason.
>> All right. Now, which one of y'all's first?
Is there a trick to it?
>> Yeah.
>> Yes, there's a trick to it.
>> Just hold on tight.
>> So, we're both we're both >> I'm left-handed. Okay.
>> Okay. No, I got to be right-handed.
>> I see.
>> Okay. So, what you'll do is like if you want to just get right in front of me.
>> Yeah.
>> Cuz we're we're backwards here.
>> And see, you're you're going to grab it just like I do.
>> Uhhuh.
>> And go that way with it. Right.
>> And just put pressure on it.
>> Yeah. You want to get over it.
>> Okay.
>> A little like Yeah. Get over cuz you can you can shove it on in the ground.
>> Get there, daddy.
>> I told you, >> man. What? He thought this before, Dad.
>> I know. Let me look for one.
>> So good. Sounds good. Like I said, I I might uh looking for a new career. This might be something that I get into.
>> Just getting looks.
>> This is like CrossFit before grunting.
You got to >> get a little cardio in.
>> Get a little cardio in there.
>> And now, how how far out from where he is will you find him?
>> So, my dad um did a we had a King Katana >> um Vanderbilt. He um came out and did the they made the discovery of how the signal transfers to make the worms. And it was a star-nosed mold that create, you know, it's a predator prey type of thing, you know.
>> And um at that time he had um like vibration detector. So he marked all where the worms come up. So they'll come up about maybe 20 30 foot at the most.
>> Oh wow. Okay.
>> Depending on if it's real wet, >> 10 foot, you know, the water >> um the rain makes muffles the ground and the signal doesn't travel, you know. All right.
>> Now, don't show them, Dad.
>> This is what we got yesterday.
>> And those are night crawlers.
>> N don't >> What kind of worm? What kind of worm is that? I Oh, I said something bad.
>> I said a bad word.
>> Yeah, believe it or not.
>> Earthworm.
>> Earth worms.
>> Yeah, these are like a native one in the national forest or like >> the Appalachical National Forest.
>> Diplia, Mississippi.
>> Yeah, that's it. east of the Mississippi.
>> Yeah, they're found nowhere else.
>> And these are >> And they catch better than other worms, don't they?
>> They do. They really do. I mean, it's just like um >> match the hatch.
>> Match the hatch. Get it closest to the, you know, get what's >> native closest to the house. Yes, sir.
>> Want to see that nowhere near that bed.
>> Well, >> that's where you put them in abundance.
I I honestly I don't think my back is a >> be I've been waiting on >> Come on, Craig. Wait.
>> And I'm a lefty like y'all.
>> Okay. So, lefty, you might go you might want to use that one.
>> So, yeah. Yeah.
>> My wife.
>> It don't matter either way, buddy.
>> Yes, sir.
>> Uh-huh.
>> Make it dance.
>> Cause it to get slick. There's a lot of flat woods in Li County.
>> I think he was doing better than me.
>> And so, ideally, you go out in the forest looking >> now.
>> Do you have certain areas that you like better than other areas?
>> It's a secret.
>> Now that I know what I'm doing, it don't bother me no more.
>> How old How long does a piece of wood last you?
>> Maybe one year.
>> One year. I'll use three of them up in a year. But you've had that metal for >> most of your life.
>> Guys, look at this.
>> It's got my handrint in it.
>> I don't know if you can see it, but he's he's worn a groove in it and and molding metal with wood and your hand >> takes a long time >> and it's heavy.
>> My wife told me, she said, "When you wear it out now, we'll quit."
>> I got 50 years.
They ain't a whole lot of people know what they're doing when they see this.
>> It's a dying.
>> It's an art.
>> Oh yeah.
>> You know, I was raised doing this from an axe. A little axe and just a little old splinter.
>> Uh-huh.
>> Bat lighter. Splinter. You know what I'm talking about? That pine >> light or not?
>> Yeah. No. Splinter. Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> And we'd break off that splinter off that maybe an old railing, old fence railing we had or something. Just a splinter. Drive it down without action.
>> Hold the handle in one head >> and the head like this.
>> Just rub it like that. We get just like that.
>> That's how you started.
>> Mhm.
>> It's been rough. It's different. And when you step out of doors and do something like this on your own, it's a challenge from the day you start to the day you quit.
>> And it ain't no easy way in it. You just you just get times where it's better than others. But believe me, you gonna have a challenge faced contact according the way our weather's doing anymore. We don't have the water we used to have.
>> And uh >> uh we get a good shower and we go well in two days you don't even know it rain.
>> It is it is dry.
>> It's it's it's it's never the same. I don't care who says it. It's boredom.
>> Yeah.
>> We've seen a >> we've seen bear alligators.
All kinds of snakes sign this week.
>> Well, well, Culla County is is full of all kinds of wildlife. Florida wildlife.
>> Turkeys. We've seen turkeys.
>> Well, thank you very much. I really appreciate that.
>> Hey y'all.
>> Is there anything man here? He's going to have to back off today.
>> Is there anything you guys want to plug on the channel like uh businesses or anything like that?
>> Real Line Bait. There's the one taking over when I quit.
>> Okay. So you guys do sell the worms.
>> All right.
>> We will we will uh man a lot of magic.
>> Local worms catch the best.
>> This this guy right here this guy right here is a brim killer. He's one of the best there is. So >> I used to haul bait all the way to medical.
>> Really? Wow. That's clear pass where I am. That's way on up there.
>> Okay. Yeah. Mccoral Farms. I know exactly where the creek 3,000 cuts a week.
>> Really? So you were supplying that operation.
>> Y'all, let me tell you, that is one of the biggest operations in the south. And you never really sit to think where do these things come from. That's crazy, man, that you were doing that >> from a stick and an iron.
>> And they was very good to me. They And then when they found out that I >> we spend time >> running them, packaged them and hauled them. And one family done it, >> they didn't they always thought it come from a farm. Like I thought, oh, it's fun here doing it the hard way, man. They do have wigglers and and night crawlers and crickets and artificial baits and this, but when it comes to bedding pan fish, >> Yeah. No, that's the good stuff.
>> That's what you want to go.
>> If you want to eat good that day, go get you a handful of >> We used to wholesale them, but we don't sell them like that anymore. Not anymore. Um we have local people that are friends and family and we have um an honor system, believe it or not, and it works.
>> Okay.
>> Um and uh people small, you know, up in the forest >> and we do supply some of the fisheries around, you know, the stores around here, but not as much anymore. Um artificial lures >> played a big part, but during the bedding part of the brim in the spring, >> they can't beat a worm.
>> No. No, that artificial they just forget about it. It's like obsolete all of a sudden. So those like little like fish bites and stuff like that, they work. Um you could purchase them through, you know, Rocky's carries our worms.
>> Okay. We were there this morning.
>> Yes, sir. Yes, sir. And also uh personally contact our us personally and um you could pick them up from us.
>> There you go. You know, >> do you want to you want to put your number out there?
>> Um yeah. Yeah.
528-3788.
>> People are going to call.
>> Okay.
>> All right.
>> We do we used to ship them, >> you know, in bulk, but it's um we don't small quantities just doesn't work. So, normally you'll have to purchase amount of around a couple hundred or more, which is, you know, doesn't seem like a whole lot, but >> thank you guys for sharing this with us.
I really appreciate it.
>> Yes, sir. We appreciate.
>> Yes, sir. I want you guys drop me a comment. I want to come back. I'm going to go worm grunting with them in the forest. We're going to get some worms and we're going to take those worms.
We're going to go fishing. We're going to catch some fish. Then we're going to catch clean cook the fish sometime soon this summer.
On the boat. They have some really good fish dip. They said they got it at this place, Mineral Springs Seafood.
So, we're going to get some >> last week again or you got some small.
>> Y'all want these bags separate?
>> Yes, please.
>> Y'all need a little bit of ice or >> I got ice.
>> That's where they'd be smoking all the fish, guys. You tell they probably run some pounds through that thing. It was pouring smoke earlier, but uh I wanted to get that on camera, but it's in the afternoon now. I picked up some of the hot mess. So, it's like a a spicy smoked fish dip that had I think wahoo, tuna, bunch of stuff in it. I was torn between that and mullet dip, but honestly, I like it a little spicy. I figured while I was down here just checking out the tarpon they got at the cleaning table here at Shell Island Fish Camp, do a little bit of story time. So, how this whole trip came to be is um Wakulla County Tourism reached out to me and said, "Hey, we'd love to have you come down and do some filming and maybe showcase the area." And a little thing about me is about 20some years ago, I did live in Tallahassee for a couple years, and I used to come down to this area and fish all the time. And I always really loved it, and I haven't been back. It was actually on my radar regardless to come down here and maybe get an Airbnb and do some filming. So, when they reached out, I jumped on it.
They were looking for a couple other channels. So, I called Will and Craig said, "You guys want to go down there, have a little uh guys week, do some fishing and stuff." So, they said, "Yeah." But, uh, Visit Wakulla has a really great website. It's visitwakulla.com.
And if you wanted to come here, get an Airbnb or stay at the fish camp or book a really good charter. Uh they got a bunch of good charters, not just Real Integrity. Get on that website, you can plan yourself a trip and uh come do what we did. That was an amazing meal we had there at Posies and it's been amazing trip here in Wakulla County. Um fishing with real integrity was awesome. Hanging out with uh Will, Craig, and Sean.
That's um Cooking with Clams, Georgia Boy Outdoors, and the Lawless Tide on YouTube. And if you want to come down here and do what we do, all the information to come and stay in this area is on visitwakulla.com, which I'll put right here. And uh I hope you guys enjoyed. See you on the next one.
