Lindsay Clancy | Why Did She Murder Her Children? A Behavioral Therapist's Analysis

[00:00:00]Welcome or welcome back to Watsi Obsession True Crime. In this video, we are going to be discussing the backstory of a very difficult to hear story and it is story of mother Lindsay Clancy.

[00:00:13]Lindsay Clancy is going to be going on trial facing three counts of firstdegree murder for the death of her three young children, 5-year-old Kora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8mon-old Ken. Jury selection will begin in the Plymouth Superior Court in Massachusetts on Monday, July 20th, 2026.

[00:00:36]>> She planned these murders, gave herself the time and privacy needed to commit the murders, and then she strangled each child in the place where they should have felt the safest, at home with their mom.

[00:00:50]>> This is not a situation, your honor, that was planned by any mean. This is a situation that clearly was a product of mental illness.

[00:00:59]>> That is the prosecution and the defense and the 2023 arraignment of Lindsay Clancy. She is a former labor and delivery nurse who is accused of murdering her three children in her home in Dubbury, Massachusetts on January 24, 2023.

[00:01:18]Now, the facts of this case are not disputed. Nobody is disputing whether or not Lindsay Clancy took the lives of her three children. But the question at the center of this case is why. Did Lindsay Clancy premeditate this murder? Or was she suffering from being overmed after seeking treatment for some mental health issues and postpartum depression and possibly postpartum psychosis after giving birth to her third child.

[00:01:48]Clancy's lawyer is mounting what in essence is an insanity defense. Expected he'll try to convince a jury that Clancy was not criminally responsible, that she was over medicated in treatment for postpartum psychosis.

[00:02:01]>> At the cornerstone of Clancy's defense is an involuntary intoxication defense.

[00:02:07]The defense is claiming that Lindsay was involuntaryly intoxicated by the cocktail of 13 drugs that she was prescribed. dosage increased and yanked off of in the months preceding the murders. I'm going to be discussing in this video the facts of this case and the struggles that the Clansancy family went through in the months leading up to the murders. In doing so, we will be going over the facts outlined in one of the civil suits Patrick Clancy has filed against healthc care practitioners and their related organizations including MLAN Hospital. MLAN Hospital is one of the defendants. MLAN Hospital is a hospital associated with Harvard University, considered to be the best in the country. In a wrongful death suit that outlined the very specific struggles that Lindsay had with her mental health, seeking treatment for her mental health, and the treatment and medication she received. In this trial, we are going to be hearing a lot about some very difficult to hear topics, including postpartum depression, depression, mental illness, and postpartum psychosis.

[00:03:45]In this video, I hope to provide some perspective as a behavioral therapist as to what Lindseay Clansancy may have been experiencing at the time this horrible tragedy occurred on January 24th, 2023.

[00:03:59]Prosecutors say Clancy killed her 5-year-old daughter and three-year-old son on Monday. She then tried to end her own life by jumping out a window. Her eight-month-old baby was rushed to the hospital. His condition is unknown. The medical examiner's office is still working to figure out how the children died. The Clancy's youngest child, Kalen Patrick Clancy, spent several days on life support when he was taken off life support as it was determined that he was not going to resume brain activity.

[00:04:30]It was determined that all three children, Kora, Dawson, and Ken were strangled using exercise bands that were in the Clancy's home.

[00:04:41]Lindsay Clancy grew up in Wallingford, Connecticut. She [clears throat] attended local schools there and graduated from Lyman High School.

[00:04:50]Lindseay Clancy attended Quinnipiac University in Hampton, Connecticut, where she graduated in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in biology. Her husband Patrick grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he attended both grade school and high school. He later relocated to east the east coast to study business at Salv Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. Lindsay and Patrick Clancy met in the summer of 2013 when Lindsay was living with one of Patrick's cousins. Patra later later described their introduction as a case of quote love at first sight. After dating for 3 years, the couple married in December of 2016 and eventually settled in Ducksbury, Massachusetts, which is a coastal town near Boston, where they went on to have three children. Cora Marie Clancy was born on December 24th, 2017. [snorts] Dawson William Clansancy was born on September 30th, 2019, and their youngest son, Kalen Patrick Clancy, was born on May 26th, 2022.

[00:05:58]Lindseay Clancy worked as a labor and delivery nurse at the esteemed Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was employed there for 9 years prior to the events of January 2023. I think it's important to note that in unsealed court documents and letters of support, childhood friends of Lindseay Clancy describe her as a loving, soft-spoken, and deeply devoted mother who lived and breathed for her children. They uniformly portray her actions as entirely out of character, attributing the tragedy to severe mental health crisis rather than to her true nature. Longtime friends emphasized that being a mother was her greatest joy.

[00:06:40]Friend Amy Bevans wrote that Clancy's first priority was always being there for her children to feel loved, safe, and happy, and that she lived to be a mother. As I mentioned, this case is going to be dealing with issues of postpartum depression, postpartum psychosis, and mental health issues. So, I think before going on, it's important to define the different mental health ailments that can plague a woman after giving birth to a child. First of all, we have baby blues that affects up to 80% of new mothers. Baby blues are described as being a mild mood disturbance characterized by weepiness and mood swings. And baby blues typically resolve on their own within 2 weeks.

[00:07:29]Now, one in seven women experience postpartum depression. Postpartum depression is defined as a more severe and longasting ailment than baby blues.

[00:07:39]It can emerge any time in the first year after having a baby. Symptoms include deep fatigue, frequent crying, irritability, detachment from the baby, and difficult bonding.

[00:07:51]There's also the much more rare postpartum psychosis, which is a rare, severe, and dangerous condition affecting one to two per 1,000 births, mothers in 1 to two per 10,000 births.

[00:08:07]Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, and rapid mood swings, which require immediate medical attention. By all accounts, the Clansancy family seemed like a normal, blessed, and happy family. Both Patrick and Lindsay had very good jobs. They lived in an affluent neighborhood in the desirable Ducksbury, Massachusetts, which again is a coastal town near Boston, Massachusetts. And they seemed by all accounts to have an enviable life. Little did Patrick Clancy know that [snorts] on the day of January 24th, 2023, he'd be living the very last, even close to normal hours of the rest of his life. The facts of that afternoon and early evening, as presented by the prosecution, and that are generally agreed upon by all, go like this. On the morning of January 24th, 2023, Lindsay Clancy took her 5-year-old daughter, Kora, to the pediatrician for an appointment. Kora was complaining that she had tummy problems, and she was taking her daughter to the doctor for that reason.

[00:09:13]According to the prosecution, Lindsay interacted with a receptionist and nursing staff and the doctor, and there were apparently no issues with her demeanor or her behavior. It was a completely normal appointment.

[00:09:28]After that, after returning from the pediatrician, she played with Kora and her three-year-old son Dawson in the snow. They built a snowman and Lindsay Clancy sent photos to her mother and to her husband showing them pictures of the snowman. Lindsay texted with them, and nothing in the text was out of the ordinary or gave any sign of any kind of distress or trouble that was going on with Lindsay that day. Later that day at 4:02 p.m., Lindsay Clancy searched on her phone Kids Mirillax, that's what the doctor suggested, for the tummy problems. And then she searched out 3V restaurant on her cell phone at 4:13 p.m. Immediately after doing that on Apple Maps on her phone, she did a search to determine how long it would take somebody to drive from her home in Dubberry to the restaurant 3V in Plymouth. Now, the prosecution maintains that this is so she would know that she had enough time to commit the crimes that were about to be committed. But, of course, the defense is going to present something completely different.

[00:10:41]At 4:47 that evening, Lindsay Clancy called a CVS in Kingston and she spoke to the manager of the CVS to ask if they had that kid's Mirax. And according to the prosecution, the manager said that they didn't, but they had similar medications and that the manager did not notice any indication of anything wrong with Lindsay. No slurring in her voice.

[00:11:05]She didn't sound impaired or anything like that. She didn't have trouble understanding her. It was a perfectly normal conversation, she said.

[00:11:13]At 4:53 p.m., Lindsay Clancy texted her husband, who was working in his home office in their basement. Hey, is there any chance that you'd want to get takeout from 3V? I didn't cook anything and it's been a long day. Now, it said that this was an unusual request because when the family ordered takeout, they would typically go somewhere closer to home. But on that evening, Lindsay was asking him go to go to 3V restaurant, which was about 20 minutes away from their home. So, Patrick and Lindsay exchanged te texts about what they were going to get at the 3V restaurant. And at 5:15 p.m., Patrick Clancy headed out the door to run the errands to go to the restaurant and to pick up that children's murax from the CVS. At 5:53 p.m., Patrick Clancy called Lindsay and she didn't answer the phone. He was going to ask her what exactly she wanted for Kora because they didn't have the exact medication that she wanted.

[00:12:11]Apparently, Lindsay called him back in about a minute, and Patrick says it was a completely normal call, although she did seem like she was in the middle of something. After picking up the food and picking up the children's mirac, Patrick returns promptly home. He says when he arrived home, the first thing that he noticed was a silence. He did not see or hear Lindsay or the children. He called her cell phone at 6:09 p.m. looking for them. She didn't answer. He went up to their bedroom on the second floor and that door was locked. He was able to open it and when he did, he saw blood on the floor in front of a full-length mirror and in the window which was open.

[00:12:53]He immediately ran downstairs and into the backyard where he finds his wife Lindsay laying on the ground. She appeared to have cuts on her wrist and neck, but he stated to 911 that those wounds were no longer bleeding and she was conscious. He called 911 at 6:16 p.m. During the 911 call, Patrick can be heard asking Lindsay, "Where are the kids?" And he later told police that she replied, "In the basement." So immediately after emergency response professionals arrived, he went inside to look for the children. Patrick can be heard on the 911 call, which the jury is definitely going to be hearing, entering the home and heading to the basement. At one point, he calls out, "Guys," he can then be heard screaming in agony and in shock as he found his children. His scream seemed to get louder and more agonized as time passes. Ka and Ken were on the floor in the den area of the finished basement while Dawson was alone on the floor in Patrick's home office. Each of the children had those exercise bands around their neck.

[00:14:09]And Patrick can be heard on the 911 call screaming for law enforcement to come downstairs to give him help. Patrick was able to remove the exercise bands from the children's neck and the children were immediately rushed to the ambulance and to the hospital. Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead as they arrived to the hospital. And Kellen was lifellighted to Boston Children's Hospital where he remained on life support for several days and then was eventually taken off with his father by his side. Lindsay was taken to the hospital. She sustained several broken bones in her back and her rib cage. And to this day, she remains a parapolgic.

[00:14:48]She does not have sensation from her belly button down. And it is believed that she will not ever be able to walk again. Now, I just want to stop to acknowledge here the sheer horror that husband and father Patrick Clansancy experienced when he came home after running those mundane errands on January 4th, 2023.

[00:15:12]Patrick Clancy is going to be testifying in Lindsay's defense at the trial and he can be seen here in the background, you know, beyond her screen, just sitting right behind the screen at her arraignment shortly after this tragedy happened. Christina Rex is a local reporter in Massachusetts that reported on this case the very night the tragedy happened. And here's what she has to say. So, I reported from outside of the Clansancy home in Ducksbury that very night, and I remember personally seeing police officers actually crying, which is something that I had never seen at a crime scene before. Following is an excerpt of the prosecution stating their case and talking about some of the items that they found on a return of a search warrant after the search warrant was conducted on the Clancy's house in Dubberry, Massachusetts.

[00:16:05]The police were able to find several notebooks in the defendant's home pursuant to a search warrant and also notes on her phone that were similar to journal entries. In the months, weeks, and days preceding January 24th, 2023, the defendant meticulously detailed her daily activities, her children's lives, her mental state, and her medication use. Her writing was clear, precise, and articulate. She never indicated that she was hallucinating, delusional, or had disordered thoughts or speech. In all of her writing, she appears to know who she is, where she is, the date, and with whom she's interacted.

[00:16:45]She wrote a note on her phone the day before killing the children, stating that she had quote a touch of postpartum anxiety end quote around returning to work.

[00:16:56]She wrote that her psychiatrist had prescribed medication to help her.

[00:16:59][clears throat] Now, in the details regarding the way the prosecution is describing Lindsay's journal entries and the way she was feeling and behaving in the months leading up to these murders, that is where the prosecution and the defense are going to really butt heads with one another. They have very different stories, it seems. I guess we're going to find out during the trial regarding Lindsay's experiences from the time her third child Ken was born up until the murders of her three children. In the prosecution statement of their case that we just heard an excerpt from from the arraignment, she skips from what she was just speaking about the journal entries to when Lindsay went to see a medical professional on December 20th, 2022, which was just about a month before the murders. But in between when her last child was born and December 20th, 2022, a whole lot of things were happening with Lindsay and medical professionals and Lindsay being put on a variety of different medications, 13 to be exact.

[00:18:14]Now, the struggles that the Clancy family and Lindsay endured, specifically after the birth of her third child, Kalen, are documented in a civil suit that her husband Patrick filed against some healthc care providers and the organizations for which they work. And it is a wrongful death suit against these four defendants.

[00:18:38]This civil suit claims that ultimately the defendant's negligent treatment of Lindsay, including their complete failure to recognize and address the radical erosion of her mental health, resulted in this tragedy, namely allegations that Lindsay took the lives of her children. If defendant defendants had not acted negligently and rather had provided adequate care, it is more likely than not that Patrick and Lindsay's children would still be alive today. Wow. And those are some pretty heavy allegations, right? The civil suit filing outlines the distress that Lindsay was experiencing, the actions she took to seek help, and what she received for treatment. So, let's just take a look at at starting here. Section B. Patrick's return to work and Lindsay's impending return to work.

[00:19:29]Patrick returned to work approximately 12 weeks after Ken was born. And while he was able to work from home, for the first time, Lindsay was challenged with taking care of the three children single-handedly during the weekdays.

[00:19:40]Lindsay was also faced with her own return to work at the end of September 2022. Now, remember, Ken was born in May of 2022.

[00:19:49]Previously, the time period leading to the end of her parental leave had been a difficult time for Lindsay and had resulted in anxiety. Lindsay began to experience stress and anxiety in September 2022 towards the end of a maternal leave. Nonetheless, she continued to socialize with friends and continued to go to events and trips with her family. Because of her anxiety and impending return to work, however, Lindsay decided to seek psychiatric treatment. The civil suit goes on to detail Lindsay's medical treatment and it first mentions Dr. Tus, who is one of the defendants in the civil lawsuit. To address her anxiety, Lindsay sought psychiatric care from Dr. Tus. Dr. Dr. Toss is a psychiatrist and asked her Lindsay side to extend her maternity leave in hopes of improving her mental health. Dr. Toss treated Lindsay from on or about September 15, 2022 through on or about January 23rd, 2023. During that time, Dr. Tus desri prescribed Lindsay a variety of different medications, but failed to monitor her reaction to those medications or attend to her worsening worsening psychiatric condition. When Lindsay first began treatment, she was hesitant about taking prescription medications. Nonetheless, on September 20, September 15th, 2022, Dr. Tus prescribed Lindsay Zoloft. Lindsay didn't initially take the medication, but about 2 weeks later, she decided to take it. She had concerns about taking the medication while nursing. Lindsay began taking the prescribed Zolaf by mid-occtober, one week after starting the medication, and increasing the dose as prescribed. However, on October 20th, 2022, she reported to Dr. Tus that she felt quote awful and was experiencing insomnia due to medication increase, did not want to eat, and was feeling more depressed. She was crying all day. She was experiencing mental fog, and was terrified to start something new.

[00:21:43]Indeed, she explained that her anxiety had gotten worse than it was before she began taking the medication. She felt it was difficult to differentiate between how she felt before taking the medication, experienced overnight racing thoughts, and was quote paranoid of getting suicidal thoughts, something bad happening, doesn't want to be alone, end quote. This reaction was a relatively low dose of the medication, and was atypical. It should have prompted Dr. Tus to assess why Lindsay reacted this way. Among other things, she should have conducted testing of blood plasma levels of the medication. Tus failed to do so.

[00:22:19]Lindsay's condition deteriorated through the fall. Among other things, she experienced increasingly bad insomnia, anxiety, and depression. Instead of working to identify the source of Lindsay's condition, Dr. Toss attempted to treat Lindsay's symptoms, adding medication to treat her anxiety and depression. By the end of October and into November 2022, Lindsay was still hopeful about the future and about returning to her baseline. For example, on October 31st, 2022, Lindsay reported to her therapist, a colleague of Dr. Tus, that she was hoping to return to work soon, which she hoped would decrease her depression symptoms. By mid- November, however, her insomnia had become so bad that she was sleeping only 3 hours per night. Lindsay's insomnia became so severe that on November 16th, 2022, she went to the ER for treatment.

[00:23:06]She was prescribed another medication, Trazadone. However, it was not effective. So, next it describes how Patrick's mother, who is also a nurse practitioner, intervened. On November 22nd, she called somebody she knew, nurse Paul, at a different location. So, nurse Paul reached out to Lindsay, and Lindsay reported that the Trazadone she'd been prescribed had not been effective in helping her sleep, even when taking 150 milligram dose, and that is a relatively high dose of that medication. Lindsay reported she was very frustrated and scared and afraid of being on the medication long term. Also overwhelmed, starting to have racing thoughts, constantly thinking, experiencing extreme insomnia, and averaging 3 hours of sleep per night.

[00:23:55]So, nurse Paul put her on Prozac.

[00:23:58]Keeping in mind, I'm a behavioral therapist. I am not a doctor. I am not an MD, but I am familiar with pharmaceutical classifications. And I can tell you that Prozac is the same class of drugs as a Zoloft that Lindsay was first prescribed that kicked off this whole sort of neurotoxic reaction it seemed that Lindsay could have been having to these medications. And generally speaking, when something like that happens, you're not going to prescribe another drug of the same classification. In this case, it's an SSRI, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. I can very confidently tell you that before prescribing Lindsay another medication in that same SSRI class, there should have been extensive lab work done on Lindsay's blood to see what the heck was going on and how these chemicals were interacting with her individual body chemistry. And then at this point, she was reporting that the symptoms were yet worsening. And the suit says that they should have done lab work to ensure that Lindsay was metabolizing the medications. She was being prescribed at normal rate.

[00:25:04]However, no lab work was done. So, next in the lawsuit, it says that 2 days later, Lindsay reported she was feeling disconnected and out of it, feeling spacey. This happened a few times in the last couple of months. So then nurse Paul prescribed ambient for sleep and remarrone which is a heavyduty antiscychotic anti-depressive and also clausipam or clonopin which is for anxiety. There is no doubt in my mind as a behavioral therapist who has worked with a ton of people on these individual medications or some mix of these cocktail medications that this should undoubtedly calm a person down and allow them to have ample sleep and a full night of sleep. These medications did not help Lindsay. On November 28th, 2022, Lindsay reported to nurse Paul that she was continuing to struggle with sleep. She says she's feeling disoriented, forgetful, not connected to her body.

[00:26:07]When she wakes up, she's feeling hung over, petrified that she's becoming addicted to benzoazipines.

[00:26:13]Feels like she's in a plant panic state right now. That's what she was reporting to nurse Paul. So [clears throat] on the next day, November 29th, 2022, Lindsay began treatment with nurse Paul's colleague, Nurse Gelada, who is another defendant of the lawsuit. That day, Lindsay told nurse Gelatada that she was quote getting physically dependent on benzo in order to sleep unquote. She further reported feeling completely overwhelmed, that her mind is constantly running. She also reported feeling afraid as if something awful might happen several days over the past 2 weeks. So November 30th, 2022, nurse Galada prescribed Lindsay Cerakquil for the first time. So let's just note that over like the span of a little over a week, Lindsay had been yanked on, put on, yanked off five different medications.

[00:27:08]Lindsay quickly reported the negative impact of this medication on her mental health. She told nur Mrs. Dukes with whom she began receiving therapy that she had an addiction to Adavan and that's why she can't sleep and yeah Adavan is a benzoazipene my friends and they are highly highly habit forming addictive she reported weight loss lack of appetite panic attacks and feeling of numbness she also reported for the first time she had suicidal ideiation on her about December 5th 2022 Lindsay reported to Miss Dukes that she had experienced intrusive thoughts and had contacted Aspire Crisis Support, an emergency service for those at risk of self harm. Over the weekend, Patrick joined the visit with nurse Paul, and reportedly told her that Lindsay's anxiety had become significantly worse since she started the psychiatric medication. You know, at this point, on November 30th, 2022, she's now reporting suicidal ideiation for the first time.

[00:28:05]Patrick attends the session with her and is like, "Listen, this is not working for my wife. Her anxiety and all these other symptoms have increased substantially since she started this crazy regimen of medication. The following day, Lindsay attended an appointment with nurse Gelato. During the appointment, Lindsay reported that she was sleeping only 3 hours per night, felt completely overwhelmed, that her mind was constantly running. All symptoms of mania she's been reporting all along, guys. and also symptoms of neurotoxicity due to medication, which means your body is not responding typically to certain medications and is throwing your nervous system way off balance, which unfortunately is a very difficult ailment to have corrected.

[00:28:52]Lindsay also reported that she believed that her ongoing symptoms were connected to the medication she was being subscribed prescribed that immediately after being prescribed a stronger dose of Zolaf. She didn't sleep for 48 hours and she wasn't tired. Absolute mania symptoms. In response, nurse Gelada prescribed an additional medication known as Valium, which is another benzoazipam, which is what Lindsay was saying she was afraid of getting addicted to. And also, by the way, it's not working. On December 9th, now we're about a month and a half before the murders, Patrick called Nurse Gelata's office, asked for a call back, made it clear to nurse Jelada's office that it was fairly urgent. When Patrick and Lindsay spoke to Nurse Gelatada, they advised her that Lindsay was still experiencing panic and suicidal ideiation. Nurse Jelada advised Lindsay to continue taking the medication that she had prescribed. Now, I just have to say at this point, beyond certainty, I can tell you the right thing to have told Lindsay was to go to the emergency room immediately. You need to be seen immediately. You need to be under observation so you can be safe, not just, oh, just keep taking more of the same stuff I that I prescribed you that's causing all of this insanity.

[00:30:08]This is just really, really horrible stuff. You probably won't be surprised to learn that on the next page, Lindsay continued to experience suicidal ideiation through December. She continued to seek help through nurse Jalanda, her therapist, and in mid December, the emergency department of the Massachusetts General Hospital.

[00:30:25]During this time period, Lindsay reported having persistent thoughts of suicide. She also reached out to Dr. Tus who prescribed her an additional medication. further seeking help on December 20th, 2022. Lindsay admitted herself into a day hospital program at the women and infants hospital. So, she started going to a day program 5 days a week to help her with these mental health symptoms. At the women and infants hospital, Lindsay reported, among other things, heart palpitation, severe depression, feelings of numbness, and that her life was becoming a disaster. Lindsay reported that she could not feel fear and she was worried that she was messed up beyond repair.

[00:31:01]She also reported a general inability to function. The women in infants hospital determined that Lindsay's mental health issue was likely due to over medication and misdiagnosis and the day program there was not appropriate for her. Women in infants hospital reached out to nurse Gelatada to discuss Lindsay's care, but nurse Gelato failed to respond to them.

[00:31:23]Lindsay's conditions continued to deteriorate. On January 1st, 2023, Lindsay admitted herself to mane hospital as a result of suicidal ideiation. She remained at McClean until January 5th. Lindsay returned to treatment with Dr. Tooffs the following day on January 26th, 2023. Dr. Toss diagnosed Lindsay with chronic major depressive disorder, single episode, moderate.

[00:31:48]Jesus Christ. When people have suicidal ideiation are unable to sleep for a couple days at the time at the most 3 hours a night and are expressing that they are absolutely terrified of life and they feel that their life has completely deteriorated.

[00:32:06]It's not a moderate case on the scale of depressive disorders. It's severe every time. It's a ringer. It's not a question. This is horrible. She recorded that Lindsay psychiatric condition was deteriorating and that her medication was not effective. Despite her poor condition, Dr. Tus met with Lindsay for only 17 minutes. Dr. Tus met with Lindsay for another 17 minutes 3 days later on about January 12th. So now we're just 11 days before the tragedy.

[00:32:36]Lindsay reported to Dr. Tus that she was still feeling very low mood, no motivation, just very depressed. This had been going on for months now.

[00:32:43]Lindsay had a final appointment with Dr. Toughs on January 23rd, 2023, the day before the murders. During the last 17-minute appointment, Lindsay reported that she was a little more anxious, heart racing. She was noticing more morning anxiety. Dr. Toss reported that Lindsay's mood was the same, flat, anxious. Lindsay had no motivation, numb, that she has to force herself up out of the house. Lindsay's sleep and medication efficacy were poor, her insight was poor, and her psychiatric general condition was unchanged. Now, all of that information that I just read you was contained in a lawsuit that was filed by Patrick Clancy, a wrongful death lawsuit. Now, there is another civil lawsuit filed on behalf of Lindsay Clancy for loss of consortium. And loss of consortium means loss of a loved one.

[00:33:36]Loss of the love, the care, the affection, the companionship of a loved one in this action, namely it's her children. So when you're filing a suit for loss of consortium, you're saying that this loss never should have occurred. It wrongfully occurred due to the negligence or whatever it may be on the part of the defendants. Again, the defendants in this case are the same practitioners and their corresponding organizations.

[00:34:03]In this lawsuit, there were a few critical facts that were not outlined in Patrick's lawsuit that I just want to make you aware of. So, in this lawsuit, here's some of the additional facts [snorts] referring to Lindsay Clancy's first and second pregnancies. And so what she's going to be saying is the practitioners who were seeing her after her third pregnancy when she was going to seek out help for her her mental health symptoms.

[00:34:31]They should have become aware of her history, which should have indicated to them the course of treatment they had put her on was all wrong. During the postpartum period following her second child, Dawson's birth, Lindsay was initially elated with increased energy. Patrick described that she had manic behavior for multiple days. In October 2020, she had episodes of decluttering to quote simplify her life, obsessively cleaning and discarding items. She said she felt quote amazingly on top of things. Her thoughts raced and she constantly felt pressure to be active. After her second pregnancy, anxiety emerged at approximately 2 months postpartum.

[00:35:08]Although Lindsay was offered Zolaf by a psychiatrist, she declined due to concerns about breastfeeding, her symptoms resolved through exercise, healthy diet, meditation, and several therapy sessions. Those prior postmortem episodes, including hypomoman manic symptoms following Dawson's birth, were critical indicators that should have alerted component psychiatrist providers the risk of bipolar disorder and the potential for more severe postpartum psychiatric complications following subsequent pregnancies.

[00:35:38]This lawsuit talks about additional symptoms that should have been alarming that were alarming and should have definitely been alarming to practitioners that Lindsay experienced after her third pregnancy, the birth of Kalen.

[00:35:50]Lindsay demonstrated significant activation of hypomomanic behavior, including an extensive program of exercise beginning only one week after delivery. She woke every day before the children at 4:00 a.m., ran three miles, did spinning for 30 minutes on the Pelaton, then did 30 minutes of aerobics. On July 4th, 2022, only 5 weeks after delivery, she ran a fivemile race. Lindsay's sister Allison observed that unlike her usual sensible self, Lindsay impulsively bought into a Beachbody, MLM, or multilevel marketing scheme, purchasing products to resell.

[00:36:25]She made videos of her exercise routines, posted them on Facebook, and encouraged friends to join the program.

[00:36:30]These early postpartum behaviors constituted a hypomomanic episode that combined with her history following Dawson's birth should have immediately suggested bipolar disorder to any competent psychiatric provider who obtained an adequate history.

[00:36:45]Now, this lawsuit includes greater detail and very disturbing detail about how Lindsay felt and how she expressed to her practitioners that she felt after she was put on the medication regimen that she was put on of those 13 medications over several months that she was put on, up the dose, yanked off, you know, all of that. After starting Craakquil, Lindsay's condition took a dramatic turn for the worst. She developed suicidal ideation and began experiencing what she described as intrusive thoughts which were which were actually auditory halluc hall hallucinations.

[00:37:20]The voice said, "I will not be the same.

[00:37:23]I want to die." Lindsay openly communicated her escalating internal turmoil to her husband, her parents, and her providers. She described her emotional state as emotionless and like a zombie, attributing this profound effective blunting to the cerakquil.

[00:37:39]On December 4th, Lindsay was frightened by the hallucination. So much so that she called the New Bedford suicide hotline seeking help. She was told there was no emergency because she had no specific plan to kill herself.

[00:37:54]On December 6th, 2022, Patrick attended an appointment with Lindsay and Nurse Gelatada. Patrick connected Lindsay's suicidal thoughts to the cerakquil. He told nurse Jalana that quote Lindsay is 10,000 times worse since she's taken medication and asked if they could quote get Lindsay off medication and start from scratch to see what's going on. He asked if there could have been some mistake like using the wrong medications. Nurse Gelato acknowledged it's possible. Despite this, nurse Gelato continued to increase cerakquil dosage towards 400 milligrams per day.

[00:38:28]My god, which is such a hugely high dose of cerakquil.

[00:38:33]On December 13th, 2022, Lindsay remained deeply depressed, had no motivation, and still had suicidal ideiation. She wanted quote this to be all over. On December 15th, so now we're just a little over a month before the tragedy. Patrick called nurse Gelato's office to report that Lindsay has had a devastating week and that it was a worst day for Lindsay. She had horrible thoughts all day. Lindsay had auditory hallucinations all day, every day. She felt debilitated, not interested in anything, exhausted, and could not get out of bed. The hallucinations were loud and continued all day saying, "I will never be the same. I will never be me again. You are damaged. You will never be the same. The only option is to die."

[00:39:20]Guys, this was on December 15th, over a month and a week before the murders.

[00:39:26]Like, what the was going on here?

[00:39:31]So guys, worse yet, Lindsay told her husband Patrick, "I have thoughts of harming the kids." She also told her mother about these thoughts. Because she was in a psychotic state, Lindsay also had paranoid delusions that people around here could hear her thoughts and that she'd be locked in a hospital and have her children taken away. Lindsay chief complaint at Women in Infants Hospital was, "I feel numb and crazy and depressed." She reported feeling crazy depressed and numb to all emotions. she can't feel love and that her life was becoming a disaster, that she couldn't feel fear, that she was messed up beyond repair. She lost 15 pounds in a month, had no motivation, and reported, "It takes all the effort in the world just to breathe." Now, she had checked herself into the women and infants hospital on December 20th, 2022. And while she was there, they administered the Nberg postnatal depression scale, which is a typical scale that is used to assess women who just gave birth to determine if they have postpartum depression or not. Now, this is just mind-blowing.

[00:40:39]So, the score at the im women and infant center was 23 indicating severe depression. Her generalized anxiety disorder or GAD 7 score was 21, which is much higher than the threshold for the most severe category. If I saw assessment results that read this, the first thing I would do would be to call the person who administered the assessment to make sure that they recorded the results correctly because they're very high serious scores.

[00:41:14]Now, this next part here is truly shocking to me. Despite the severely elevated scores, Dr. Diaz, the attending psychiatrist of Women in Infants Hospital, concluded that Lindsay had no postpartum depression and rejected a bipolar disorder diagnosis because of no history of hypermania or psychosis or a family history.

[00:41:34]Oh, Lord. This conclusion was negligent.

[00:41:38]Hell yeah, it was. Cuz Dr. Diaz failed to obtain an adequate history. Dr. Diaz's own notes documented that Lizz's sister had experienced postpartum anxiety, a relevant family psychi psychiatric history that should have been explored. Had Dr. Diaz properly inquired about Lindsay's early postpartum period, she would have learned of the hypomomanic episode that began immediately after delivery. Dr. Diaz also failed to recognize that Lindsay's provider had previously considered bipolar disorder as documented in Lindsay's records, stating that she was started on cerakquil and had concern for bipolar. So the following details have to do with Lindsay's experience at McClean's hospital and that is the Harvard hospital and a practitioner called Dr. Goodhart. So on December 29th, 2022, Lindsay told her husband, "I just I can't tough it out anymore. I need to go to McClean."

[00:42:38]So on December 30th, she went to the emergency room, and it was suggested that she go to Man. On December 31st, she admitted herself to man hospital, which again is the nation's top ranked psychiatric hospital, and this was due to severe depression and suicidal ideiation.

[00:42:55]So Lindsay symptoms included passive suicidal ideation, feeling detached, hopeless, depressive, depressed, no appetite, no energy to perform daily activities, no motivation, raising thoughts, inability to organize her thoughts, memory, memory problems, anxiety and insomnia, and I mean she was just at this point an absolute mess. So when Lindsay admitted herself to man, she was put on in a unit where there were 15minute suicidal checks, you know, constantly every 15 minutes checking on her. However, they are saying that she grossly received inadequate care. So she was admitted on New Year's Eve and there was a skeleton crew working because of the holiday. It said that patients spent their evening doing puzzles and coloring and nurses just stayed behind the desk and the glass. Lindsay didn't even see a doctor until January 3rd, 3 days after she was admitted to the hospital. So when she finally did see a doctor, Dr. Goodhart, Dr. Goodhart advised Lindsay to stop taking Cerakquil and benzo and then prescribed Trazadone for sleep. And then on January 4th, Lindsay asked if she could go home because it was Kora's birthday.

[00:44:07]She said her thoughts had improved since the cerakquil dosage decreased and they actually approved her for discharge. She was discharged on January 5th, 2023 after only a 5day stay. After discharge, Dr. Goodart from man called Lindsay and spoke for only 10 minutes offering names of anti-depressants. The staff at McClean suggested Aratripptalene yet another anti-depressive.

[00:44:35]yet another SSRI, the very class of medic medications that had repeatedly caused Lindsay to have adverse reactions. When Lindsay was discharged from a clean, she thought I was just in the best hospital in the country, so there's not much hope. And man, I don't blame her. She decided that she just had to appear like she was okay and had to do her best. The suit says that Dr. Goodart and MLAN's hospital negligent failure to properly evaluate Lindsay, obtain an adequate psychiatric history, provide sufficient inpatient care during her brief admission, and ensure appropriate discharge planning and follow-up care directly contributed to the tragic events that followed. Dr. Goodart as a discharging physician approved Lindsay's release after only 5 days despite her documented limited insight and judgment for her ongoing severe symptoms.

[00:45:33]After being discharged from a Lindsay returned to seeing Dr. Tus on January 10th, 2023, Lindsay returned to see her and she was switched from Valium for a benzoazipene taper. So this was the third benzo that she was on. Dr. Tus indicated at some point we'll add an anti-depressant. Like as if they had not tried that time and time and time again.

[00:45:56]On January 16th, 2023, now we're just about a week before the murders. Lindsay was still experiencing debilitating depression. She had to force herself to do anything. The hallucinations continued saying, "You should harm the children. You should kill yourself. You will never be the same. The only option is to die." She felt like a zombie. Dr. Tus prescribed armatipptalene, another anti-depressant, at 10 milligrams per day. On January 20th, because Lindsay was having such awful thoughts and was so numb and emotionless, she researched what is a psychopath to see if she was one and whether there was a care. So now the following details go into the day of the tragedy. And if you feel like you might not want to hear this, I would just advise just going turning this off, doing something good for yourself. This is really hard stuff to hear, guys. The suicidal halluc hall hallucinations continued all day non-stop on the day of the murders. Later in the afternoon, the voice began saying, "You should harm the children." Lindsay thought about dinner and realized she had nothing prepared.

[00:46:59]She asked Patrick about the takeout. She looked at the map to see how long it would take because she did not want to be alone and she needed help. This is her perspective, of course. As soon as Patrick left to pick up the food, there was a loud, demanding, repetitious voice. This is your last chance. Kill the children so you can kill yourself.

[00:47:17]This is your last chance. You have to kill all the kids so you can kill yourself. Lindsay felt a force come over her. Lindsay experienced commanding auditory hallucinations.

[00:47:30]A quote demanding powerful male voice explicitly ordered her. She felt an overwhelming irresistible compulsion to comply. entering a dissociative dreamlike state where her physical actions felt utterly disconnected from her conscious valition. She perceived her quote body was just acting and she was merely quote watching herself do it.

[00:47:49]She reported she had no choice but to follow these compelling directives.

[00:47:55]Lindsay described I lost all control. My body started acting without any control on my part. I was just following commands. All action. The voice demanded action. Lindsay proceeded to strangle each of her children, uttering, "Go to God, baby." Following these acts, she undertook a severe suicidal attempt, ingesting a substantial quantity of various medications, self-inflicting lacerations on her wrist and neck, and jumping from a second store, second floor window approximately 20 ft to the ground below. So, wow. After learning about all of these facts pertaining to the case, I am intensely interested to know what you think about this case so far. Undoubtedly, more details are going to come out during the course of the trial. And no matter which side you fall on, whether you think that Lindsay Clancy should be convicted of first-degree murder or if you think she should not be convicted, because there is a viable defense of some kind of temporary insanity or involuntary intoxication.

[00:48:56]This is undoubtedly one of the most tragic crimes that I have covered in a really long time. So, as of today, July 20th, 2026, the first day of jury selection has concluded. And just to get you completely up to date on the case so far, take a listen to this news clip from just today, January 20th, 2026.

[00:49:19]Andette, good afternoon. As of right now, we do know that two jurors were just seated and the judge plans on seating 18 jurors in this case. We did see well over a 100 people pouring in this morning for questioning both men and women and a mix of ages and races.

[00:49:36]Questions were asked to avoid any biases in the trial moving forward, leading to many people dismissed early on. The goal again to have 18 jurors for the trial.

[00:49:46]Prosecutors say Dubberry mother Lindseay Clancy killed her 5-year-old Kora, three-year-old Dawson, and sevenmonth-old Ken in January of 2023.

[00:49:56]Clansancy is charged with three counts of murder, but she pleaded not guilty to these charges. Her defense is expected to argue that she was suffering from postpartum depression and was overmedicated. Clancy's attorneys say she is determined to be present in court for every day of this trial. This trial is expected to last 6 to 8 weeks with more than 200 witnesses on the list.
