The Waiohiki Marae stopbank represents the first major infrastructure project completed following Cyclone Gabrielle, demonstrating how government investment ($7 million) in resilient flood protection infrastructure, developed through partnership between the Crown, Local Government, Ngāti Pārau, Ngai Tahu Ahi, and the Waiohiki community, provides tangible protection to communities while advancing regional recovery and building back stronger.

Waiohiki Marae stopbank - the first major stop bank construction, following Cyclone Gabrielle.本站添加:
So, being at Waimakariri here today, where we've celebrated with the community, with local iwi, with local government and central government, the opening of the stopbank here.
So, here with Minister Watts, and it's been so wonderful to have you here in the electorate today opening the stopbank following Cyclone Gabrielle.
Such a massive milestone for our region, and great to have you here on the ground to celebrate.
>> Yeah, it's really special. I mean, this community felt the full brunt of that cyclone impact. What we've now got is tangible delivery and outcomes, a stopbank behind us, $7 million of Crown investment, and this is going to protect this community. So, when people talk about this government and what we've delivered, here's a tangible example of those outcomes and that delivery, and that's really important, and it's great for the advocacy that you've done, Katherine, in your community, because without that, it wouldn't happen. And we've got more stopbanks in progress at the moment, which really also shows that commitment to resilient infrastructure.
Yeah, I mean, this is a government of delivery. We want to build more resilient infrastructure that protects our community and importantly protects our economy. And I think it just means a lot to our community to have you here today, but also to see the progress being made post-Cyclone Gabrielle, cuz our communities can feel safer.
