Can Tesla FSD Handle the Busiest Airport in the World?

[00:00:00]Hey y'all. Welcome back to Rockco Rides Tesla. In this video, I am going to be putting FSD to the test and going to Hartsfield Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, the busiest airport in the world, and see how FSD does. And I'm going to simulate basically a drop off at the airport to say if you were to drop a family, a friend off at the airport and we'll see how FSD does driving through downtown Atlanta heading south of Atlanta down to the airport and see if we can do this drive intervention free. So let's go ahead and enter it into the navigation ATL.

[00:00:45]Let's zoom in and make sure we go to the north terminal um or south terminal actually. And the south terminal is Atlanta. So let's drop a pin right here. This is where the drop offs are.

[00:01:15]We'll see what happens.

[00:01:17]That looks about right. We'll figure it out.

[00:01:20]You want to do pullover, not park. And let's get going. We have 34 miles 42 minutes to get there. We are at a quick trip in Alpharetta, north of Atlanta.

[00:01:36]So, we're going to see if we can do this all FSD. Right now, I'm on a basically a 43 mile FSD streak.

[00:01:42]And here is the route.

[00:01:44]So, we'll be taking 400 uh Georgia 400 south uh down through Sandy Springs, Buckhead, hopping on I 85 and getting in the connector and going through some uh it's pretty pretty decent traffic in downtown Atlanta and heading south to the airport. 42 minutes 34 miles. Let's go. So, I This will be my first time.

[00:02:11]Little break stab there. This will be my first time going to an airport in my Tesla. I'm interested to see how it goes. I've been through downtown Atlanta several times, but I have not gone to the airport. So, this will be uh quite interesting. And I'm going to I'm going to act like I'm doing a Delta flight uh whether it be a drop off or pickup. So, I want to make sure I go through the South terminal. And if you live in Atlanta, have driven to the airport, you know what I'm talking about. I assume most everybody has at least flown through the Atlanta airport before.

[00:02:50]Let me try this. Let's add here. Delta Terminal.

[00:02:56]Delta.

[00:02:58]South Terminal. South. Let me type in South Terminal. Again, I never really drive to the airport, so I'm not sure what the destination should be. This is all part of it. Terminal South. No, we'll see. This will be part of it.

[00:03:15]We're going to see what happens cuz I always assumed you have to come in and loop around this way.

[00:03:24]But we're going to see what happens when we get down there. We have 40 minutes and get a light drizzle. Let's check the radar. See what the rain looks like.

[00:03:37]Rain in the area. We need to get over it. See these white lines right here? It always waits to the dotted lines, which I guess is the legal thing to do, but it always gets over at the very end when merging on here. And it would be nice if it got over a little sooner. Every time I get on the the highway here, that's what happens. But we made it.

[00:04:13]So y'all know we are running, let's check the software. We are running 14.3.4 at the time of this video.

[00:04:24]And looks like some I don't know if y'all can tell in the video, but it looks like some rain is ahead of us. So FSD will be tested on that. I do not want to stay behind this trailer very long. Uh because that's how I'll get another crack in my windshield, especially with this backhoe right here.

[00:04:45]Dirt and debris flying off of it. And here comes the rain. If y'all can see that.

[00:04:56]Let's see. I'm driving in the standard speed profile. I'm at 44% state of charge.

[00:05:06]We got some light rain coming in.

[00:05:12]Then, you know, since I have this video going, here's what I'm thinking. After I complete this video, we drive to the airport and I share my thoughts with you. I will film another video which will come out after this at some point.

[00:05:26]This is a little teaser. I am going to see what happens when you drive your Tesla to 0%.

[00:05:34]And I will do that in the next video. I will film that as soon as this video is done and then share that after I share this uh Tesla FSD in the Model Y Juniper to the airport. So, for those not familiar, this is a 2026 Model Y juniper rearwheel drive, the premium version. I have this is in quicks black seats. Got some good rain right now. So, let's see if it will slow down.

[00:06:03]So, typically when it starts raining bad, it will say uh FSD limited or speed limited due to poor visibility. We haven't gotten that alert yet, but that typic that's typically what happens when it starts to rain pretty hard.

[00:06:19]FSD so far on the car.

[00:06:24]99% a 28 day streak. Longest streak so far is 148.5 miles. And I have driven 6 16,329 FSD miles since uh 14.2 came out in November 2025.

[00:06:45]Is currently June 27th, 2026.

[00:06:52]I'll keep you all posted as we uh get closer to downtown. For those for those of you watching this video wondering how FSD does in heavy rain and poor visibility, here you go. Here's the the limit right here. Maximum speed limited poor uh road conditions or poor visibility, which is standard and that's what you want. You want the car to go slower when it's raining bad.

[00:07:16]But I've been in several torrential downpours, uh, fog, haven't been through snow, but I would imagine is somewhat similar. I have not been when the road is covered in snow or anything, but really I don't feel any stress. The car always does extremely well and it slows down when the weather's bad, which is what you want.

[00:07:40]Looks like it's just a quick little uh afternoon popup. It was, you know, about 90°. Now it's cooled off to 78, so not a problem.

[00:07:52]A lot of people get, you know, it's stressful when you can't see very well and it's pouring rain and, you know, roads are slippery.

[00:08:01]That FSD does incredible job. It lets you just stay relaxed and enjoy the ride. Even though the rain is gone and the visibility is improved, if I try to go to a faster speed profile, it says maximum speed limited.

[00:08:16]Poor road conditions detected as if it were still raining. And I guess it's just a little delayed and easing off that restriction cuz we're a speed limit 65. We're going 60 and getting passed up. So, nope.

[00:08:32]face hit the windshield wipers.

[00:08:35]But at least we're getting over. We need to move over further right if the car is going to go this slow.

[00:08:44]This should end. This speed limitation should end shortly, especially since the conditions are no longer bad.

[00:08:54]Let me know if you all have seen this before. or I have, but typically it ends the speed limitation sooner.

[00:09:05]There we go. We hit hurry. Now we're good. We're We sped up. It's saying 55.

[00:09:11]There's a 65 m speed mile per hour speed limit sign right there.

[00:09:18]But, you know, we're still we're going with the flow of traffic, so no big deal. So, we're back up to normal highway speeds, but still it's a believe it's a 65, but the car is reading 55.

[00:09:28]And I know a lot of people have that um that problem with their cars as well.

[00:09:35]And I'll tell y'all, it's not an FSD thing. It's a navigation thing. Well, all and also they're just strictly relying on the car's vision up here to read speed signs properly. Again, you'll see like that sign right there says 45.

[00:09:53]Uh, fortunately, the car did not see that, but we're in a hurry speed profile, so it should be doing about 10 over.

[00:10:04]We're going 20 over, but it says we're going 20 over, but the speed limit is 65.

[00:10:09]So, it really is 10. It's confusing, right?

[00:10:14]So, it' be nice if they could kind of work that part out. Now, a lot of people say, "Oh, the car goes too fast for them." And I understand that, but I bumped it up to hurry. I want to burn off some energy and we still have cars passing us. So, if I were, you know, setting the pace and going faster than everybody else, then I would be more concerned. But when we have other cars passing me, it's not that big of a deal. So, here it actually does slow down to 55. Right. There's the 55 sign, but we still maintain 77, 78, and a 55.

[00:10:54]Yeah, you can get in trouble with that one.

[00:10:57]So, when we get when I get past this Audi right here, I'm going to bump it down to standard cuz this is too fast.

[00:11:04]22 23 over the 22 22 23 over the speed limit in hurry is pretty crazy.

[00:11:13]That's more like Mad Max speeds. I'm wondering why it's allowed to go that fast. And again, this is the latest software. So, I'm going to scroll down on the left, the right wheel here, bump it down to standard, hit the turn signal, and get over. We'll see what we drop down to. Again, it said 55 back there. I saw that the car thinks it's 55 and yet we are going uh 15 over the speed limit, which is pretty crazy.

[00:11:40]Now, let's try this. What happens when I drop it down to chill?

[00:11:45]Big slow down.

[00:11:48]Now back up to standard.

[00:11:51]So I dropped it down the chill. You saw that quickly decelerate.

[00:11:56]And now we're up at standard and going still 1213 over. And now right here you can see we're coming up on the signs.

[00:12:04]It's going to go back to 65. So there's 65.

[00:12:09]Does it change? Yep. So now this is more reasonable speed.

[00:12:13]It's almost like it was ignoring the 55 the entire time even though it saw it and even though the car registered at 55. It's um it was still hauling. But you know this is a good speed. Six over at 65. This is a comfortable speed. We're still getting past. I'm not going to get a speeding ticket going this speed. And it's safe.

[00:12:35]So I was just playing with the destination a little bit and I'll show you all what I found. Let me hit this add a stop. We'll do Atlanta airport departures, which is more appropriate. Here we go.

[00:12:49]This is what we wanted right here. Uh, domestic terminal south.

[00:12:56]So, I have too many stops in. I need to click on the three dots right here.

[00:13:01]Edit trip. Remove these two.

[00:13:05]Hit done.

[00:13:08]Now, we're looking good.

[00:13:11]Yes, that's what you want. So, you want to type in Atlanta airport departures or arrivals and then select the appropriate terminal cuz that looks a lot better. As I zoom in here, that's where we want to go.

[00:13:29]Now, we'll see cuz um arrivals and departures is kind of like a uh divide in the road. So, we'll see if it does in fact go to departures or arrivals. I'll let it decide, but you still can do a lower terminal drop off and get upstairs. So, driving through Buckhead right now and going under uh down the business district business district of Buckhead.

[00:14:02]have the Buckhead Mart station.

[00:14:20]And here we are on I 85 and in heavy heavy traffic.

[00:14:29]And this is to be expected and you know it's a good part of the test putting Atlanta in this is Atlanta traffic right so putting the car in rush hour type traffic where stop and go switching lanes.

[00:14:47]Let's bump it into Mad Max to see how it I assume and based on my experience it's going to start getting more aggressive with the lane changes. Just trying to keep moving, but I'll let it do its thing. There you can see.

[00:15:05]Starting to see Midtown up ahead.

[00:15:10]So, I'm running in the Mad Max speed profile and I haven't switched lanes at all.

[00:15:16]And something that Tesla does as the they keep rolling out software updates, FSD updates is they'll, you know, dial up, dial down different, you know, how aggressive the speed profiles are.

[00:15:29]Although back there we were going really fast and hurry in a 55, but in terms of lane changing in this heavy heavy traffic, we're in Mad Max and we've just been holding this up and then here we go. So, I'm not sure why we would get in the right lane right now, but yet the car wants to. So, I'm letting it do its thing.

[00:15:52]Maybe it knows something I do not cuz these lanes uh we're on 85 South and and basically unless is it having us get off the interstate?

[00:16:10]Interesting.

[00:16:13]It's saying this is the F. So maybe that's why we're working our way over.

[00:16:17]We're going to get off at 14th Street.

[00:16:21]Y'all see that on this little bypass road or this access road? I guess this thinks it's faster to do that than to just stay on the interstate.

[00:16:32]You never know with Tesla navigation, but there will be no interventions. We I'm letting this play out and letting the navigation and FSD get us there.

[00:16:45]There goes my twin cutting off this Honda Civic, the Quicksilver Model Y Juniper, and I'm getting cut off by a Suburban limousine. See, you know, this is why FSD is so great. Normally, a lot of people would find this very stressful or they would get irritated by getting cut off. And that's just kind of what happens when you're on in huge cities and this is one of the busiest stretches of road in the country and one of the most congested 75 85 the downtown connector but cuz I don't have to do anything and see like oh I will as long as I get to my destination and and and in this instance I don't have a flight to catch or somebody to pick up. I just felt like getting out on the road on this Saturday afternoon and running down the airport. See how the car does.

[00:17:41]That way I'll know how to do it and y'all will know how to do it in the future. So, we're getting off the exit and have these great views of Midtown Atlanta. Hopefully y'all can see those. Well, the nice city skyline, cityscape.

[00:17:59]And it looks like this was the good good call to navigation getting off here. And we're bypassing all this heavy traffic on the connector.

[00:18:12]Well, this is very, very nicely done.

[00:18:16]Look at this. Okay.

[00:18:19]You know, I you know, a lot of people kind of trash the navigation, but this was extremely well played and saving me, you know, probably a good 10 minutes of sitting in that. Well, okay.

[00:18:48]I don't know what we have here.

[00:18:52]Someone says, what does this sign say?

[00:18:54]Smile. And he has a Christmas c, like a Santa cap on.

[00:19:19]sitting here and letting the car drive for me and seeing um just how people drive. It's really is crazy. And it kind of, you know, explains why traffic is so bad, why so many accidents occur. I guess you have a broken down charger right here. Um, and I just asked myself, maybe, you know, cuz I'm in my own Tesla bubble here. I was like, why doesn't everybody just go and get a Tesla and FSD? Probably because they don't know about it. Probably cuz they don't know how good it is. Maybe they live in an apartment and they don't have charging at their apartments. I've heard that one a lot of what is holding people back. But if you have, it's just it just makes life so much easier having this. Okay. Okay, I don't need to be in Mad Max anymore. I'm going to drop it down to standard.

[00:20:12]You can really feel it on the turns. It really is just the acceleration, everything, and the MadMax speed profile.

[00:20:21]But we are 14 minutes out, 11 miles from the airport. And it did a uh a really good job down uh navigating that downtown Atlanta traffic. And usually right there, right after that turn, it seems like things open up. And now we're moving at a good speed. Looks like I'll have some traffic to look forward to on the way back as well. And afterwards, I'm going to go run up to the Tesla Kennesaw uh store, but that is that will not be on this video.

[00:20:57]So, we're running standard going again.

[00:20:59]You know, it really doesn't it really disobys the 55 m hour 55 mph zones.

[00:21:08]cuz standard is typically five over, but we're going 11. It's not a problem. A lot of other vehicles are passing us.

[00:21:16]But if you're someone who really likes to adhere to speed limits and only go a few miles over, uh, in a 55, here we go.

[00:21:24]Now we're we're slowing down. Man, that dam was hauling. Uh, you may want to run in chill speed profile in a 55 if it's going too fast for you.

[00:21:37]So, we are about 5 miles away from the airport, 7 minutes, and we have been on the road 40 minutes, as y'all can see right there. Gone 30.4 miles. and say this was, you know, a real drive, you know, I mean, I could use this time to get work done or if I was going on a trip, you know, making sure my I was checked in for my flight, making sure I knew where my gate was, um, making sure I didn't forget anything. So, it really just allows you to be relaxed, gather your thoughts, be productive, and just makes it so much easier, whether it's going to the airport or anywhere.

[00:22:26]It should be there in 6 minutes.

[00:22:30]Traffic is uh it's pretty rough heading north, too. So, will not be going home.

[00:22:45]Let me know in the comments if you've flown in and out of the Atlanta airport, if you drive to the Atlanta airport and and what your experience has been, and also kind of what uh your opinion is on how the FSD has performed through this portion of the trip and and you the real test will be, you know, how does it do once we get on uh airport grounds and getting to departures or arrivals and we'll see how that does. I'm not I'm not sure what it's going to do cuz I have never gone to the airport in this car or used FSD. So, this is unchartered territory for me. And I'm I'm interested and excited to see how it goes.

[00:24:15]And if I was actually driving to the airport, parking myself, what I would do was select uh probably parking garage, but then once I got in the garage, maybe I just take over myself. It's not a big deal for me to have to find parking myself. The the tougher part is dealing with that traffic downtown and just being able to to relax for the transient part of the trip. Here's the airport.

[00:24:39]Horsesfield Jackson International Airport. Over a 100 million passengers a year fly through the Atlanta airport, the home of Delta.

[00:24:51]I rarely fly anymore. The last time I flew was a ski trip in February because it was just a short weekend out west.

[00:24:59]But other than that, uh, you know, Rocco, Rachel, and I have been just been using FSD and, uh, traveling in the Model Y Juniper. It's just effortless. And, you know, yes, if it has to be a business trip or a quick weekend trip, I would understand taking a flight. if it's far far but you know knocking down five six hour oh no do we have a down cybert truck cybert truck here up here on the shoulder with his flashers on maybe he's just waiting hopefully he's not in distress hopefully not okay back to the the the matter at hand let's see what we do here we're coming up towards the terminal. We want to go left here, which we are very good.

[00:26:04]This is what it all really boils down to. This right here, what will the car do?

[00:26:16]I don't want to lose that streak, but I will if I have to.

[00:26:23]We stay to the right to go to arrivals and departures.

[00:26:27]Doing that. Approaching destination.

[00:26:30]We'll pull over near destination. Okay.

[00:26:43]Traffic's not too bad, but usually it doesn't get bad until you get right over right around here. As you can see, All right, we're going to Let's stick to the right here. Ideally, curbside check-in, arrivals, departures, use all lanes.

[00:27:27]You know, traffic's not as bad as I thought, but it's also, you know, 4:30 on a Saturday.

[00:27:33]But the point is, can the car get here?

[00:27:36]And we have all these cones here. What will it do? Are we just going to stop behind this emergency management vehicle? Nope. We're going around him.

[00:27:47]They may actually try to go curbside.

[00:27:50]We have one, two, four lanes.

[00:27:55]Cars coming in and out, passengers walking across everywhere.

[00:28:02]So, a lot of variables to factor in. You got I'm trying this Kia trying to cut me off.

[00:28:17]Breathe. All right.

[00:28:32]It's following the hand signals. Did y'all see that?

[00:28:41]Impressive.

[00:28:43]Do y'all see that following the hand signals right there?

[00:28:50]So, if I were driving, I would have dropped off a while ago, but we're continuing on. I wonder where it's going to pull over.

[00:29:00]It needs to pull over somewhere.

[00:29:08]So, if we don't pull over right now, then it will have missed it. Here's arrivals.

[00:29:16]So, there you have it. We literally just drove through all the departures and arrivals, and now it has us looping around. So, it did in fact not pull over.

[00:29:28]So, it got us to the airport, but it did not pull over anywhere where it was supposed to. Now the navigation is having it loop. So you know they that's that's the result.

[00:29:41]I'm disappointed in FSC did not pull over. But now I know and you know um when you get to the departures and arrivals it may not pull over and you just may have to uh manually take over and pull over to drop off or pick up.

[00:30:01]And that will wrap up this video of what happens and how FSD performs driving to Hartsfield Jackson International Airport, the busiest airport in the world.

[00:30:14]Traffic was worse downtown. It wasn't bad at the airport, but there was a lot going on. I was impressed it followed the hand signals, but uh it obviously did not uh follow my instructions and the objective of pulling over in the departures and rivals area.
