The pin rolling technique is required only when withdrawing a suction catheter from an endotracheal or tracheostomy tube, not during insertion; this technique prevents mucosal damage by ensuring equal pressure distribution across all tube walls and allows all surfaces to contact the catheter holes for effective suction.

#icushort 565: While going down, is pin rolling technique needed or required only during withdrawl?Added:
Okay. So the question which is asked today is I would say a very basic one but very very important. So Samuel wants to ask that when we do suctioning of the endotrical tube or tracetomy tube when we come out from the suction uh for when we come out from the endotrical tube or tracetomy tube we come out in a pin rolling manner. The suction catheter we come out by rolling a pin rolling manner so that the suction catheter moves inside the trachemia or endotrical tube.
So he's asking when we go inside the uh tracheosttomatic tube or endotrical tube then also we need to go in a pinrolling manner or not. So the answer is no. When you go inside the endotrical tube or uh trachus tube you don't need to use the pin rolling method. Also do not connect it to the uh suction port means no suction should be applied when you are going inside the endotrical tube or traosttomy tube. Only when you are coming out, you should attach the suction uh vacuum suction to the suction catheter and come out with a pin rolling uh method. Why pin rolling method? Two reasons. One, if if you are not uh doing a pin rolling method, the catheter is not moving. If it is stuck uh to a mucous membrane and pressure is applied, it can erode the or damage the mucusa.
So that mucusa can be damaged. Secondly, when it is rotated, if it is rotated uh so the damage is prevented, the pressure is applied equally almost equally to all all the wall of the uh mucosa and it doesn't remain attached to the a single point. So the excessive pressure is avoided. Secondly, when it when you use the pin rolling method, the whole uh wall all surfaces areas means all all over the surface is uh comes in contact with the suction uh catheter holes. So the all the all the walls of the uh endotrical tube or the trachostomy tube gets equal chance to get sucked out of the material. So that's why only while coming out of the endotraal tube or the trachosis tube you need to use a pin rolling method while going down it is not necessary also while going down do not connect it to the vacuum section go inside plainly only while coming out you connect it to the suction catheter. I hope this clarifies. Do read more about it.
