Slope triggering is an advanced oscilloscope technique that filters piezo element signals by their rate of change, allowing users to isolate sharp, high-speed pulses while ignoring slow background vibrations; by setting a short time duration, the scope ignores long, slow vibrations and only triggers on rapid staccato attacks, enabling clean capture of individual peaks for analysis.

Capturing Staccato Signals - #thebytesizedengineer | DigiKey本站添加:
When you're working with piezo elements, capturing a clean signal can be frustrating. These sensors are incredibly sensitive and a basic edge trigger often catches too much noise. If you're tapping the sensor and trying to look at each individual peak, you'll notice the waveform won't stay still.
Right now, we're using a standard falling edge trigger, but it's capturing every little vibration, not just the hits we care about. To fix this, let's move past the basics and try slope triggering. This allows us to filter our signals based on their speed. By setting a very short time duration, we can tell the scope to ignore long, slow vibrations and only trigger on sharp staccato attacks. I'll set my scope to single capture mode and now it will patiently wait, ignoring soft touches until it sees a signal that meets our [music] exact slope criteria.
There it is. A perfectly captured high-speed pulse filtered and ready for analysis.
