St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk (died 1173) was a 12th-century Russian princess who renounced her royal heritage at age 12 to become a nun, dedicating her life to prayer, copying sacred books, and charitable works; she traveled extensively, founded convents in Constantinople, made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem during the Latin Kingdom period, and was buried in Kiev, becoming venerated by Russians, Ruthenians, and Lithuanians as a model of monastic devotion and humility.
