I Vibe Coded BLENDER to Piss Off Haters
Added:We need to address the AI drama here because I'm facing a very interesting problem here in this channel. For the past, I don't know, 17 years or so, I've been creating games. We have a company that makes video games, make tools, make tutorials, etc. And for the past 11 years, I'm I'm creating alone, handcrafting every single time. and we are approaching 500,000 lines of code cave which is an entire 3D commercial game engine that has users in more than 46 countries already. So it's an amazing engine and before like 5 years ago before the AI drama something interesting would happen every time I post about cave well people not going to believe it they will say well this is amazing you have such a good skill set uh this is amazing I will hire you this is why I got in the gaming industry as a senior developer in the first hand people saw my job and they say well this is amazing let's hire you let's pay you a lot of money uh and all that and of course people would just be impressed that I a single dev alone was able to create a commercial product that is faster and easier and much much straightforward to develop games for indie developers uh than I don't know Unity Rio or GDO. So people would be impressed this is amazing but now we are on the AI area. So every time someone sees something uh slightly more complicated than the usual, they immediately say, "Well, this is AI's law. The guy just vibe coded the whole thing and that's it." And it's annoying.
And I realize that I'm not the only one.
uh by browsing on the internet for a second, you'll find uh videos like this one uh where this guy says that he was not getting any wish lists or any uh very decent uh results on his game because people would just assume it's AI and then as soon as he said no it's not AI people say oh okay good it's not AI so people are uh falsively false falsively if this word is exist uh saying that everything that is quite hard to develop AISLO and I've been suffering a lot here in this channel because in almost every video I people either don't care and they just say oh this AIS love I'm not going to watch it or they start commenting accusing me of making AIS love stuff and this is annoying like I've been answering one two three four 500 times 200 times I've been getting pissed off so much because of this AI stuff and no cave engine is not AI's up. I have countless of proof.
You can open the channel. You can check it out. You can check it out my Facebook since 2015 almost more than 10 years ago. I've been posting progress of development of this engine. So, I handcrafted every single line of code.
And what do I get in exchange? Well, people saying it's AI slop. So, I'm so upset about this. And this got especially um hard in the last video. I even get like some death threat threats and stuff like that. So, it's annoying because in the last video, not the last video, the last video about Tiniest 2D, our free 2D game engine that I made for people to make 2D games in a much easier and faster way. I actually used, yes, I used uh AI to create a bunner for the engine in the website. And this generated a lot of drama because yes, indeed, that was AI and people hated me so much for that.
And I had the realization. So, I changed this. Of course, I apologize to people and say, "Okay, no problem. Let's remove the eye." Good. We have more than almost 60 games made with Tinus 2D, by the way.
Uh, so it's not hard to get a bunch of reference and put together a new banner.
I changed that. But the problem is, uh, even though I apologized, I came to an interesting realization. This will never stop. People will never stop falsively accusing me as doing AI swap stuff. Even my product that I've been creating for 11 years almost half a million lines of code written by myself line by line word by word doesn't matter people will say it's AISL so I came to an an interesting realization if you cannot win the B battle if you cannot win this you might as well approach it so I am pissed off because people say my stuff is AI even though it's not AI so it's time to do quite a bit of a revenge because in the past day I actually vibe coded with 100% AI. I use Fable 5 and a little bit of codeex 5.6, but Fable 5 is much better to do this job. But I vibe coded stove, the pro the program that you are seeing here in the background. And this is literally a Blender alternative. But calm down, calm down. Let me explain because I believe this program is actually pretty decent. Uh, and I believe this video here in particular is a little bit of a rage bite or something like that. and above discussing. So, I'm not going to go too artistic in this video, but if you're interested, I'll be making another video just showcasing the software without talking about all this AI drama and all that. Um, and also, if you are interested, I will be making a separate video on how I made this project because it turns out that people hate AI so much that they never try AI.
And if you never try something, you never know what is able and not able to do. And it turns out that AI is simply a multiplier, a skill multiplier. And if you have zero skills, uh zero times anything is still zero. Uh and this is what people don't realize. If you know nothing, you will still not be able to do anything with AI. But if you have skills, if you know what to do something, AI will just allow you to make this faster. As a matter of fact, why am I able to create uh such software so fast in a day with AI? Is it because Fable 5 is amazing? Not really. If you ask Fable 5 to do Blender clone, it will make a very not polished at all, very bad uh Blender clone. But this one you're about to see, it's not a bad clone, and I'll talk about that in a moment. But I know what I'm doing. I have experience. I've been creating game engines for like most of my life. And by the way, I do have one of the most watched videos in this channel is I made a game engine in 30 hours. And this is before the AI drama. It's five years ago. And yes, I recorded me creating a an entire 3D game engine from scratch in 30 hours. Five years ago, preAI meaning I know how to do software. I know how to do everything. And then if I open AI to do I'm not doing hey please make Blender clone make no mistakes. No, you can watch this video by the way. It's very nice. It's the most watched video on this channel. Literally it's the number one if I put here in the popular. It's the number one over here. Um and it's amazing. Uh you should definitely take a look and you should definitely subscribe to this channel by the way. But um AI will not going to do wonders for you. If you don't know what you're doing, you're not going to be able to do anything good with AI. And if you know what you're doing, then you're a multiplier. You have like a weapon on you. Um, this code, this program here, again, I will make another video showcasing the program in details, but I do showcase uh this program in this video here in particular as well because it's very very very interesting and you can do a bunch of uh of cool stuff with using it.
But uh basically if you do know what we're doing AI as a multiplier before making the before vibe coding this with Fable 5 I actually took a two-hour long conversation a record on me record a voice message that was almost twohour long with the entire specification everything I describe it every class I describe it um every file how the structure will be like the build process uh what libraries it will use what would be every step, every single action, everything I described here in a two-hour long audio that I exchanged to shad GPG because it's very nice to send voice messages to shad GPT. It transcribes very well. Um, and then I generated like almost 3,000 lines of code uh specification for cloud to make sure it's uh it does the job very well.
Then I spend the rest of the day while I was working my other projects here uh just fixing and improving it. So basically now this video rage bites aside. Let's talk a little bit about this. And again, oh I'm pissed off because you guys keep saying everything I do is vibe code even though it's not. Well now this is vibe coded. That's it. [laughter] And it would be available. It's not available available yet, but I'll make sure this is available. I'm not sure where yet, but probably through um our website. We do have a subscription over there. And maybe this will be good because I believe this product is generally genuinely nice. Um, and I'll talk about that in a moment. So, basically uh the idea of making this was not exactly because of the drama here, the AI drama in this channel. Uh, but I was doing I was covering I wanted to cover Blender 5.6, the latest release. And by the way, don't get me wrong, I love Blender. I'm wearing a Blender t-shirt here for this video in particular. uh we made here in the company uh hundreds of thousands of dollars already with Blender uh anyways with our games with our products here.
So Blender is amazing. That's why I have a t-shirt. Uh but I was about to cover the 5.6 release in Blender and I realized something interesting. There was a lot of new stuff and I'm pretty sure many people get very excited about it. But me in particular and here in the studio, we're not going to be using any of that new feature. And I've been getting the same um feeling since 2018 when they removed Blender game engine and then uh revamped the UI in Blender.
Uh since then uh there's a lot of new stuff going on, a lot of geometry nodes, a lot of handing and animation and other stuff which is amazing, but we don't use this in the studio. We don't use 1% of Blender. Um so in the end we have this gigantic software which is amazing.
Don't get me wrong, I do have a Blender t-shirt, but with 99% of the stuff that I'm not gonna ever use. So, what uh what do we we use Blender here in the studio for? We open Blender. Basically, we 3D model are low poly models. This is Blender again. Uh just like I did over there in our in our video, we 3D model the stuff. Then we uh we texture the stuff. We hand with hand painted textures. We don't even bother uh UV mapping anymore because it turns out that uh smart UV project is quite decent for what we do here in this ch in this uh in our studio. So we do this and then we paint it and that's it. Uh for animation we generally use mix. So we don't animate much here much here. Um but we do have animators here in the studio as well. I I believe they use blender for that and I believe it's nice. But me in particular, I animate with mix ammo and I mostly do low poly hetro uh looking hard surface modeling.
And it turns out that you don't need all blender to to do this. You don't need geometry nodes. You don't need handing animation shading. We don't need uh composition. You don't need scripting.
We don't need scripting. We don't need 99% of Blender. So I decided, you know what? I'll make Blender but specifically for uh my my my use case. So here we have stove. Stove is very simple. You don't as you can see there's no user interface. Uh I mean there's no menus and all that. Um it's very simple by defa by design. The only uh settings you will find is occasionally at the bottom. You'll see that in a moment. And you'll find the right click menu with a bunch of options. For example, this by default have shadows uh shadeless mode. You can uh tweak this. You can uh toggle the grid. So simple stuff. You have the world settings. So you can adjust uh the light, the background color and all the other stuff. Uh but basically in stove you have three modes. We have the view mode that mean it's only a way for you to visualize your model. Good. We have the model mode that is a way for you to 3D model stuff. And then we have the basic um vertex selection. We can click here to select multiple vertices. We have add selection and here in the bottom we can see uh the options we have and as we have the face selection to select faces. Uh we have gizmos here to move, rotate and scale. But of course this can also be done with u shortcuts like G to move S to scale and R to rotate. Undo is implemented by design in the engine u in the software. Good. Uh you have magnet.
You have shading here uh to show texture. There's no texture here. This is why it's like that. U but the basic stuff you can extrude stuff. You can scale stuff. You can add primitives.
Let's add for example um I don't know a sphere here. And then we can change with control mouse wheel the number of subdivision that the sphere have. Good.
Can scale duplicate this do all sorts of operation. Let's add I don't know a circle here.
Oops.
Let me delete this and add again.
Here we go. Now I can adjust the number of vertices.
Then of course I can do extrusion here of my circle. I can rotate this around.
Again, the crazy stuff you can do. And of course we do have like bevel operation. Oops. Just B. It's work in progress. So we can see it's not very good. Good. Let's undo this. Let's try to do a bevel. I don't know over here maybe with B. We create a bevel again. Work in progress. But you know what uh uh what we are aiming for here, right? Let's go undo this.
So once you have your model ready for you can do whatever you want. And by the way, you can have like Blender uh modes here. Can toggle the perspective. Can even click over here on top. Toggle the grid. Good stuff. Can toggle like the X-ray. Can make it shadeless. So there's no uh lightning. You can see there's shadows here. But of course, you can disable the shadows if you don't want the the shadows. Can add cavity to to bad visualize what you're doing. Very nice. Let me disable the cavity so you can see. So yeah, we we and of course I can rotate this.
Good stuff. Anyways, this is the let me rotate this back here and the best part is I do have these two models and the the third model is a paint model and you can see it generates the UV automatically and I can straight up start painting my model which is absolutely nice. I can paint this. Right click, change the primary color.
Very good. Uh, I can use gradient mode.
Maybe I need to to change the secondary color to something else so it's a bit more interesting. Very nice.
Let's make this green. Good. I can go back to the model and then I can select like those two balls here. The balls are selected. Good. Uh now I can go back here and I will activate the mask. And in the mask mode only the stuff that I have will be selected. Let me disable the mask. Go back to model. I will right click and shades move this.
Here we go. Uh and I'll select this.
Then I'll activate once again the mask.
Make this gray black.
Here we go. Disable the mask. Might need to shade smooth this as well.
And that's it. So, basically, this is a very easy way to paint stuff. Let me actually adjust the brush settings. Yes. Let's put this my over here. I can of course change the texture resolution. Right now it will reset the texture. So I'm not doing this. Uh but yes, the the idea here is that you can 3D model and then you can paint very seamlessly and with no UI. It's literally everything you need to know. The shortcuts are here at the bottom and that's basically stove.
You can save the project. Uh it's a stove file. And the ideas the idea I have is to basically use this to create my 3D models from now on. Let's experiment and evolve this a little bit here inside the studio. And also it's a little bit more mature. I'll be able to share. But the idea is that it is ridiculously simple. There's no uh UV edit. There's no advanced modes, no menus, there's no handing. As a matter of fact, you cannot even composite scenes here because it's meant for you to create assets for video games. So the idea is that you'll be opening like cave or stuff like that to be able to composite your scene. So we're not going to be able to do this directly in stove.
Um and in in the very short future probably the next thing that I'll v code [laughter] using fable is a left menu over here because right now I can only have one model. Uh and if I need like a different model um I need to create a different save file. I need to save this and create a new one. But of course if you're creating as an asset pack for your game you need to create a lot of different models trees rocks and all that. Uh I will have like a left menu that you can select different objects and then you can view model and paint them individually. And then in the next step I will probably add rigging and animation option. So you have like two extra modes over here. One for the rigging that you can add skeleton animation and then one for the animation that you can have different animations uh and animate in this very simple uh manner. But again it's still uh work in progress. Right now I'm focusing on hard surface modeling. So there's no rigging yet uh but multiple objects will will appear very soon. And the idea again is to create a very simple and very simplistic uh alternative to create modules. And again the whole point here is not to compete with Blender. Uh that's not the the point, but it's to create like a way simpler alternative for you to create uh this very specific and niched down uh option. Let me actually make this darker.
Let's reduce the opacity here, the strength.

Can see this a little bit better. So, the whole point here is not to compete with Blender, but to create the simpler alternative for you to create this type of stuff.
