HVAC system maintenance requires systematic troubleshooting including checking electrical components (breakers, capacitors), measuring refrigerant charge through subcooling and superheat readings, and identifying system leaks through performance analysis; proper AC system operation requires subcooling around 10°F and saturation temperatures above 32°F to prevent freezing, while hard start capacitors should maintain 114-120 microfarads for reliable compressor operation.

Realistic Apartment Maintenance VlogAjouté :
All right. On this work order, they say the garage isn't working.
Check the breaker.
All the breakers look good. Garage 25.
It's good.
Yeah. I'll just put this apart from the breaker box. Look what Look at that.
All right. Let's see.
Button works.
And it's the old keypad that's not working. Replace the 9V.
We're going to go with the old HD warehouse.
No HD warehouse supply battery quality. Let's see here. I don't want to show you their code.
That's it. All I needed was a new battery.
Off to the next maintenance.
This the dirty maintenance man here to fix your air conditioner.
We got us an old cooler.
First off, make sure the breaker is not tripped.
And they all look good.
I hear something in the living room.
Sounds like a window unit.
Ah, call. Must have had to come out.
See if we can get it to come on.
I hear refrigerant moving and we've got fan. Maybe it was late at night.
It was late at night and on call.
Couldn't put refrigerant in it cuz it was dark outside.
Yeah. This is the unit right here. As you can see, it's by bedroom windows.
That's why we don't work on them at night. If you saw a flashlight bouncing around outside your daughter's window, what would you do?
I can hear the compressor running.
That's a good sign. So, probably just going to be low like all the rest of them. Another leaky coil.
Yeah, it's low. Sub cool at 1.7. I like I want to see that around 10. Super heat's a little high. I want that to come down as well. I've already let the air out of my lines for the YouTube police.
It's not terribly terribly low, but it's low. And with that apartment being on the third floor, it's just getting roasted during the day. It's been getting in the 90s here in Florida. Now we have officially hit AC season.
The old saturation looks good. never hit around 32 or below. So, it wasn't freezing up. Said it just couldn't keep up.
Super heat's come down a little bit.
Subcool's gone up. Give it a little more.
All right, skid bros. I'm going to leave it right there. Old TXB is hunting. It's going to settle at around 10. Super heat came down 21. Suction line's got some good sweat on it.
I'm going to leave it right there. Good to go.
Yep. Heading down.
Long as it's heading south, it's good to go. All right.
Checking for leak. I don't even remember what coil we're on. Number six, I think.
right there.
Coil looks good.
There it is.
I believe it's number six. Stay tuned.
Got another no cooling call.
I think I hear the compressor buzzing, trying to come on.
Oh yeah, that's the compressor. It's trying to turn on.
Going to be a bad hard start. And capacitor. I'm just going to replace it all.
Oh yeah, that's the original capacitor that came on the unit.
Definitely just going to change all this out.
The 10-year-old capacitor from China should never go bad. Something caused it.
I just get tired of the same comments from the same know-it-alls.
Not even the same know-it-alls. Really different know it alls which is really crazy.
Let's see here.
45. That's the original one that came in it. As I figured, they all take 45/5.
The one with these rotary compressors.
Yep. The old China made.
This has one wire on the common side of the conttor.
I'll change this out, too. These come I guess the installer puts these in for the new cats that are watching.
cuz then they'll start in them. Oh, it's got a hard start in it. Just go ahead and just change out the compressor. Just shouldn't have a hard start. I know everything. Do do as I say. You're doing it wrong.
These come already on it.
I've learned the that the installer puts them on there cuz they need it. The rotary compressors have to have it.
But once everything goes bad, you got to change it all out. I change it all out anyway, even if one thing's bad.
All right, got the new stuff mounted.
And red is common. Goes on the C terminal.
It's labeled on top for the new guys if you've never done one before. Red and purple go to common.
Some guys are like, "Don't let the comments get to you. Don't let the commenters get to you." Brown goes the fan. The comments aren't getting to me.
I'm just heading them off at the pass, you know? I'm I'm saying what they're about to say before before their fingers hit the keyboard and it's working. I mean, they've it's stop the ridiculous comments. Yellow goes to Herm.
So, I'm just saying what they're saying before they can get to it.
showing them what they sound like. Black goes to the common side of the conttor down here.
Try to focus.
So, yeah, they're not getting to me. And I know you say, "Oh, you should pay them no mind." I enjoy poking fun at them.
I don't know if it's social media or what it is, but a lot of people have become really opinionated about things that don't matter in the grand scheme of things.
It's crazy how I get hair out of a drain just send some dudes through the roof.
It's weird.
But I enjoy making fun of them. Their comments aren't getting to me. Hopefully I'm getting to them. All right, so red, purple, common. That's good. Yellow herm, brown fan.
Looks good. I'm going to button it up.
Turn it on. I'm going to suck out the float switch, too, cuz the float switch had water in there in inside it. Should hear that compressor fire up now.
Remember it was buzzing when we showed.
Oh, yeah.
I'm going to go get my shot back and suck this out.
It's clogged full of oysters.
Oh, that's clogged.
It's not unclogged. It's good, bro.
Oh, man. That doesn't clogged up good.
still in there. Going have to break out the big guns.
I grab the old gallow gun.
Blast it from the other side. You can't get to it through these raggedy drain pans that first company put in. You can't get to it through the drain line.
So, you got to come outside and blast it from the outside.
Fire in the hole.
Oh yeah, there we go.
See that line bucking? That line's bucking. And it's good. You sucking it out now.
Yeah, dudes. If you can't get it, go outside, blast it the other way. You get a little bit in the apartment, so what?
You fixed it. That's all that matters.
You can clean up the mess. Jeez.
I wouldn't worry about that.
That's good to go right there. Bone dry.
Well, it's not terrible, but it's not good either.
Sub cools low.
So, we're going to give it a little bit.
Get it up to 10.
Going to go to 10 with it. 10 sub cool.
Saturation 43. So, it was never in danger of freezing. Just a little low.
While I'm here, I'm going to get it right since they're all leaking.
All right, that looks good. Super heat 17, subcool 10.
Everything looks good. I'm going to leave it there. Off to the next adventure.
All right, we're on another no cooling call. I replaced the compressor on this one about two years ago. And Jordan, remember J Booty? Jordan, he replaced the coil about 3 years ago. I was just testing the capacitor and the hard start. That's why I had it unplugged.
I'm going to go turn it on and see if it's low. I mean, if it's low, that means the new coil J Booty put in is leaking.
That's what we used to do. I used to We used to trade coils. I'd put one in, then the next one he do. I do, he do.
Now all the new ones we put in, they're leaking.
>> I know where you live.
>> Oh, this is their personal filter.
The pan's not full.
>> Float switch is dry.
>> Probably just going to be low. Another leaker.
J Booty, if you're watching, this one's you.
>> Let's go see how low it is.
Oh, hey, sweet.
Well, just like the last one, it's not terrible, but it's not good either. Low subcool, super heat's a little high. So if it if it's leaking, which I'm pretty sure it is, it's got a small leak. It's not a big one.
This will get him through the summer.
Now that J booty's gone, I don't really have anyone I can trade off coil doing with so they don't get done as fast.
You know the drill. 10 come down. 10 subcooled bring the super heat down.
Same old same. That's why I quit recording these things. So, how many times you guys want to watch me do this, you know? All right. Subcooled 13. It can be within three. 10 to 13. Super heat came down a little bit. I'm going to leave it there. Let's go see if we can find the leak on the new three-year-old coil.
All right, skid bros. Another First Company coil. As you can see, what is this? Number seven. I'm losing count. I might just stop counting because I'm losing count. As you can see, brand new coil. J Booty put it in about 3 years ago. It still looks good. Doesn't look dirty, nasty. It's got a little little wear and tear on it. Now, let's check for the leak. Is the three-year-old coil leaking or is it in the condenser? Looks a little stained right up in here.
Oh, >> and there it is.
Piece of junk.
All our new coils are leaking.
>> J Booty, if you're watching, >> look at your three-y old coil. You put in >> leaking now.
>> Stay tuned. What is it? So, let's see.
250 minus 7.
>> 243 more to go.
And another no cooling call. This one might be the filter. I don't know. I'm going to change it. and then we'll go check the charge. These are all on the same day, too, guys. So, that's uh that's what I'm dealing with this summer.
Oh, the condensers are behind the building.
Let's go see how low it is.
I think y'all get the point.
Y'all still want me to find the leaks?
Y'all still want me to film filling them up? Cuz there's a lot of leaking coils out here. That's a lot of the same video over and over. Y'all let me know if y'all are good. If you believe me now, 250 leaking first company coils.
There's our culprits. I got the disconnect pulled. This compressor was doing the buzz like it was trying to start like on the last one.
And throw in that it's low on refrigerant. It's just man.
It's going to be a long summer.
There better not be a 35 cap in here.
Someone's been going around putting the wrong capacitors in these things.
No, it looks right.
Let me turn it and see. It might be a 40. Should be a 45.
They all take them. Oh, it's the right capacitor. Hallelujah. 455.
Let's see if it's good. If it's good, I'm just going to do the hard start.
Herm to common should be 45.
Yep.
All right, I'm going to put this back in and just do the hard start.
This is how you can tell if your heart starts going bad. There's my old one and there's my new one. Should get around 114 15 microfarads, sometimes 120.
I got the meter set to cap just like you would test a capacitor. Look at that.
Zero.
That's why the compressor wasn't firing.
It was just buzzing. Now I'll test my new one. should get around 120 between 114 120.
There we go. 114 microfarads. So that's how you can tell if it's bad or not.
This one's definitely bad at zero.
All right. All hooked up. New hard start capacitor was good. We already found a leak inside on the coil. What was that?
Number eight. So, the compressor should fire up now. See how low it is.
Compressor came on. That's good.
Once again, saturation's at 36.
Not freezing, but it's not looking good.
High booty super heat. That's some high booty super heat. Subcool 0. Oh, zero.
Oh, great.
Oh, blanked out. No sub cooling. High booty super heat.
Oh, let me get the refrigerant.
All right, Bruss 10° sub cool. I'm going to leave it there. Super heat's a little high, but it's got a TXV in it, so I'm going to leave it there. 10° sub cool.
Some commenters ask where I learned all this stuff. Guys, I just got out there and did it. I never went to any kind of school or classes. Just go out there and make mistakes.
I've shot breakers, blown up breakers.
I've caught dryers on fire. I've flooded apartments. It's not failing, it's learning.
How else are you going to learn? Good thing mistakes are our greatest teachers, right?
I'm going to end the video here, though.
So, hopefully I have a new one soon with different stuff, not just me going around charging air conditioners. All right, we'll see you on the next one.
Late circle around me. Yeah.
