How Saltwater Pools Actually Work

[music] So in salt you have NaCl or sodium chloride. When the electricity hits this it splits the two up. The sodium goes out and softens the water. That's why it's so soft on your skin and hair. That's why it's so comfortable to open your eyes underwater and then the chlorine kills bacteria and algae. And so the coolest thing about salt water [music] is that the salt is not consumed in this process. It recombines. It happens over and over and over again. The only way that you lose salinity or [music] salt in the water is through rainwater dilution. Also when people are getting out of the pool they're dripping with salt water and you're replenishing that water over time with fresh tap water which does not have salt in it.
