[00:00:00]We have another case of you're not meant to notice this stuff. What I'm talking about specifically is different countries, seemingly different countries, all experiencing the exact same problems. Now, sitting here in the UK, we're having problems with things like shoplifting and those being at record highs. And it appears that even countries like Canada are struggling, too. thefts are being driven by a mix of economic pressure and increasingly organized retail crime.

[00:00:31]Grocery stores are reporting coordinated repeat thefts tied to criminal networks.

[00:00:37]The Retail Council of Canada has called retail crime a national crisis with losses now approaching 10 billion annually across the grocery sector and growing. Supermarket theft has doubled so far this year. We have analysts and when they see a spike like this, we have we have meetings every every week.

[00:00:55]>> In January, Ottawa police conducted Project Pantry at this downtown grocery store. Undercover officers charged a dozen people with 78 charges with some thefts appearing to be coordinated >> going to a car right away and uh and giving that uh that product to whoever's in the car in exchange for something.

[00:01:14]>> Some selfch checkckout counters inside grocery stores are also being exploited.

[00:01:18]Walmart in the States is pulling them out of a lot of their stores as we speak.

[00:01:22]>> Just last August in Windsor, Ontario, more than $220,000 worth of beef was stolen from this parked tractor trailer.

[00:01:29]The large scale heist, another example of a lucrative crime on the rise.

[00:01:34]>> I may have titled this video Canada has fallen, but I'm not talking from a soap box. Oh no. It appears that as I mentioned, lots of countries are going through the same thing. And that includes their leaders coming out to tell us how great everything is. Even again using Canada as an example here, although I've got plenty in the UK, too, and I'm sure many other countries have got very similar examples. But here's Mark Carney with a bit of word salad about why multi-billion dollar investments are not taking place anymore.

[00:02:08]>> Mr. from Mark Carney. Honda is reportedly suspending plans for a 15 billion EV plant in Ontario indefinitely. Has the government been informed of this decision and how do you convince companies to invest here in Canada when there's so much global uncertainty?

[00:02:24]>> Well, thank you for your question. Uh first uh we're in constant contact with um all the major automakers actual like in other words currently producing in Canada and potential um and that includes uh that includes Honda. So we're in discussions uh with them constantly. Um and look what's and and there are no there's no announcement today to be clear. Um how do we convince companies to invest in Canada? Couple things. One is the our country has twice the rate of investment foreign direct investment than the United States adjusted for the size of our population. Twice the rate.

[00:03:07]We're at the highest level of foreign direct investment in Canada for 20 years. How do you convince? How do we continue to convince and continue to increase that investment? Confidence.

[00:03:25]It's the moment to be bold, to build big, to have confidence, move forward, open up. That's what we're doing, and we'll continue to get that investment despite uh the efforts of the Americans.
