When employers make promises of rewards or benefits to employees, such as vacations, it is advisable to request written documentation to ensure the promise is enforceable; verbal promises alone may not be sufficient to prove the agreement in legal proceedings.

Man Wants His Dream Vacation! | Part 1Added:
- Mr. Romero, according to your complaint, you used to work for the defendant.
- I used to work for her husband.
- For her husband? - Right.
- You the husband?
- That's me. - Step up.
And during the course of that employment, the defendant's husband, or the defendant, promised you a dream vacation as sort of a thank you for some work that you did. - Right.
- And then you were terminated from your job, you never got your vacation.
That's what you want.
- That is correct.
- Well, what kind of business were they in that you worked for them?
- A distribution center.
- A distribution center. - Like a warehouse type.
- [Judge Judy] Okay.
- I was working.
- Go ahead, let him finish. - I was working for Larry, and Donna was our number one customer.
I worked for them for over, little bit over three years.
Never missed a day, I was there whenever they need me, I worked hard.
- In the warehouse. - In the warehouse.
I was running the warehouse by myself.
He was at the main office a few miles away.
- Okay, so tell me about this vacation.
- Back in 1994, I guess because of her, she was always kind of busy or maybe her bad planning, I was forced to work day and night sometimes, maybe 18, 16 hours a day.
- [Judge Judy] To get out orders?
- To get out the orders.
She would come to me last minute saying, "This needs to get out the next morning."
Sometimes there was like a physical inventory that it needed to be taken.
That would take about maybe 36 hours, at the most, 32 hours.
- So tell me about the vacation.
- Well, I did an excellent job not only taking inventories, but also getting her product out the door that back in 1994, she promised me a vacation, but she never kept it.
Back in 1995, she came up to me, and she told me that they needed another physical inventory and I told her that it was gonna take at least 24 hours.
And I guess she didn't mind because she told me, "Whatever it takes to get it done."
She want it done, so I have to.
That particular time, I think I worked 32 straight hours.
She was so happy with the inventory that she told me about another group vacation.
I didn't trust her because the first time, she didn't kept the promise.
So I asked her to put it in writing, which she did.
- [Judge Judy] Let me see.
Is that that sign you mentioned in your complaint? - Yes.
- Can I see it please?
- Judge Judy, first of all, this is an out and out lie.
I put that in writing for Luis because I wanted him to take advantage of the vacation.
Because as he stated in 1994, he never would take any time off work to go away on the weekend.
- Just a second, this says, "Luis Romero ang Greg receives one all expenses paid weekend, Mirage Treasure Island in Las Vegas.
No gambling money included." - No gambling money.
- "No Ranch, plus," what does it say?
- Molten Airlines. - "Molten air".
I never, what is a Molten Airlines?
- My husband had- - Low cost.
- Her has a private jet, Your Honor. - I don't have a private, I wish. - Well, what's Molten?
Please, would you tell me what Molten Airlines is?
- It was a play, it was a joke.
We have a small private plane and we wanted to take Luis and Greg, his assistant, to Las Vegas for the weekend.
- I understand that, I just wanted to find out this is not a commercial carrier, this is your plane that you were gonna drive, ride him on. - A small plane.
- [Judge Judy] Okay and what does this mean, no ranch?
What does that mean?
- No chicken ranch.
- What's chicken ranch?
- [Larry] Mustang ranch.
- [Luis] Mustang ranch, no prostitution money I guess, - What?
I'm always interested in learning something, even at my age.
No gambling money, I knew what that meant.
But no ranch means no prostitution money?
- They have legal prostitution in Nevada and they call them chicken ranches or Mustang ranch.
- I learned something.
Now and you signed this 11/9/'95.
- Right, but there was also something that I noticed has been cut from the bottom besides Greg's last name 'cause there was an expiration date.
- [Luis] There was never Greg's name on it, never.
There was no expiration date.
- [Judge Judy] Well, it says Louis Romero and Greg up here.
- But the top of there it's cut out.
But anyway, at the bottom there was an expiration date of 12/31/'95 because I wanted to make sure that they did take advantage of what I was offering because as he said in 1994, he wouldn't take any time off.
He would never find the time for us to take him.
- Your Honor, there was- - Okay, so you're gonna take him now?
- If he wants to go in Molten Airlines.
