Gaslighting is a form of emotional abuse where a manipulator makes their victim question their own sanity, memory, and perception of reality by denying events, lying about facts, and making the victim doubt their own experiences. In the story, Harlo convinces Viola she doesn't exist by making her doubt her memories, achievements, and reality, demonstrating how gaslighting can make victims question their entire sense of self. Recognizing these manipulation tactics is crucial for protecting oneself in relationships.

My Best Friend Convinced Me I Wasn’t Real… Then Stole My LifeAdded:
Hi, I'm Viola and today is a big day.
You see, it's my first time ever acting in this awesome short film. But I can't seem to focus at all. Why, you ask?
Well, that's because I just discovered I'm not real. Or to be exact, I only exist in my best friend's imagination.
Sounds strange, doesn't it? Until yesterday, I always thought of myself as a completely normal human being.
Let me tell you how it all started. The first memory I have involves my best friend, Harlo. I woke up feeling dazed and confused and saw this pretty girl smiling down at me. She told me that I'd be safe now and that her parents were going to look after me. Strangely, I couldn't remember anything before that day. And no one told me what had happened. I could only guess that I'd probably been abandoned or something and that Harlo and her parents were my saviors.
So from then on, I lived with Harlo's family, who showed me kindness and love.
When I first got out of the hospital, I couldn't do anything by myself. From personal things like brushing my teeth and washing my face to chores such as doing laundry and dumping the trash. At the time, it was Harlo who guided and helped me like a caring big sister. Then when we entered middle school and the boys started flirting with me, Harlo was always by my side to protect me. She told me how they would never like a plain boring girl like me and that they were only doing this to get close to her as she was very beautiful. If I had a decision to make, big or small, I always consulted Harlo first, as I knew she'd know best. But recently, I noticed that Harlo was acting short-tempered with me.
When I got a better grade on my English essay than her, she told me I only got that mark as the teacher just felt sorry for me. Then she stormed off. Man, I didn't mean to upset her, and it was really unfair that the teacher didn't give her the grade she deserved, as she's far smarter than I am. Then last week, this boy called Hank and our school's film club held open auditions for his short film project. Harlo was desperate to be in it, so I decided to go along with her for support. I thought Harlo's audition was marvelous, but for some reason, she wasn't picked. I was about to leave, too, but then Hank asked me if I wanted to audition, so I did.
And you know what? I got the lead role.
I was so surprised and so was Harlo. She insisted that they were just tricking me and I shouldn't take the part as why would they choose a girl with ordinary looks like me to play the female lead.
But still, I wanted to give it a try.
Opportunities like this don't come twice, right? So, I accepted the part. I know Harlo was worried that they were just teasing me, but Hank and his crew seemed nice. and maybe he finds my normal look suitable for the character.
Right. The morning before the shooting day, I asked Harlo to lend me her pretty white dress to wear to the shoot. Harlo looked annoyed as she said, "You spilled coffee on that dress last time you borrowed it. Remember? You didn't even bother taking care of it, and now the stain's still there." "No way. I remember washing it before returning it to you." "Well, then you remember it wrong. It's my dress, so I'm hardly going to forget what you did to it, am I?" Then she left in a temper. Strange.
I remember using vinegar to clean the coffee stains cuz it took me ages to scrub it off. But it is true that my memory isn't all that good. When I was a child, I once waited in the park in the rain for over an hour just because I thought Harlo told me to meet her there on Saturday afternoon. I said Sunday afternoon. I have piano practice today, silly. So maybe I misremembered again and really didn't wash the dress for her. That day in math class, Harlo got caught texting, so the teacher confiscated her phone. At break time, she asked me to sneak into the school administrator's room to get her phone back. But of course, I refused as I was far too scared to do that kind of stuff.
It's okay. No one can see you.
Basically, because you only exist in my imagination.
What was she talking about? What did she mean by that? For the rest of the lesson, I kept thinking about Harlo's words. When the bell rang, seeing that I was still confused, Harlo pointed to a group of students standing nearby and told me that no matter what I did, they wouldn't see me. And that's true. When I waved my hands and talked to them, no one looked in my direction. I even snapped my fingers in front of them, but they didn't react at all. What is going on? Harlo told me that because she imagined me, she's in control of who sees me or not. Then she told me that if I still didn't believe it, I should go to the school administrator's room to get her phone. Then I'd see that she was telling the truth. The superintendent was standing right across the hallway, but Harlo assured me I'd be invisible to her. My heart was thuing like crazy, but I tried to shake back my nerves and continued to get her phone undetected.
Wo! The superintendent didn't see me at all. So, what Harlo said was true? I only existed in her imagination.
That means Harlo's really the one who decides what will happen to me and who I'll meet. So, basically the author of my life story. But does that also mean that I have no control over my own life?
Well, if I even have a life. Then Harlo barged into my room and said, "You've never wondered why you don't remember anything about your parents and about the time before you met me, have you?"
It was cuz I lost my memory after the accident. There was no accident, Viola.
You have no previous memories because that was when I created you. As I wanted a friend to play with. I kept this truth a secret because I love you and you always listen to me. But you've been so headstrong lately. After Harlo left, I found myself feeling so down. It turned out my whole life had never belonged to me. No wonder I was so plain and ordinary. All I am is a side character in Harlo's story. After a horrible, sleepless night, I didn't even feel like going to the film set anymore. And it's already late anyway. I was laying in bed spacing out when Hank phoned me asking where I was. I only exist in Harlo's imagination, so there's no point filming.
>> Huh? What nonsense are you going on about? Stop joking, Viola. We're short on time over here. Seeing that I didn't even bother to reply to him, but just let out a long sigh, he continued.
>> All right, then. If that's the case, then you should at least make it count.
Would you like to imagine yourself as just a boring nobody or a brilliant actress? I suppose Hank's words made sense, so I got myself back together and hurried to the film set. Even if I'm imaginary, I'll make this unreal life of mine unimaginably awesome. The filming was actually a lot of fun, and everyone complimented my acting. H They were probably just being nice, but it still felt good. Then Hank came over and congratulated me. Now that filming's over, you can be honest with me. I don't mind. I know you only cast me as the lead as you like Harlo.
>> What do you mean? And the thing you said this morning as well about only existing in Harlo's imagination.
>> I ended up blurting out everything to him. And you know what he did? He laughed. But when he saw that I was struggling to fight back my tears, he took my hand.
>> Viola, listen to me. Harlo's tricking you. The only thing not real in all of this are her words, not you. No way.
Harlo's my best friend. She would never do such a thing.
>> If you only existed in Harlo's imagination, how come you still decided on your own to show up at film set this morning? How come you still meet other people without her being around? Like right now? Harlo couldn't have written the script with all these little details, right? Come on, Vi. Think about it. But there was a time when Harlo made me invisible to everybody else. I snapped my fingers in front of them and they didn't react at all. Hank asked me who these people were and I told him. He said he'd make sure I saw sense. Then he left. This was so confusing. I cannot tell what is real and what's not anymore.
The next day at school when I was sorting my locker out, Hank dragged a reluctant looking boy over to me. I recognized him. He was part of the group who didn't see me.
Go on, tell her everything.
>> The boy told me how Harlo had bribed them to trick me. He also said that they distracted the superintendent so I could sneak into her office without being caught. What? I didn't understand why Harlo would do this to me. Hank went with me to confront her and she faked a smile and said, "Silly Viola, it was just a joke."
So, what about the fact that I can't remember anything about the time before I met you? You said there was no accident. It's also a lie, isn't it? I never said that. Probably you misremembered again like so many times before. I view you as a sister, Viola.
I'd never lie to you. I didn't know what to believe anymore. I needed to be alone for a minute. This was all too much to process. So, I ran to the nearby park to clear my mind.
Suddenly, I felt something cold next to my cheek. It was Hank. He passed me some water and told me to drink it and calm down. Viola, I think Harlo's gaslighting you. She's basically emotionally abusing you to make you question your own sanity. I know you see her as a sister, but she's really toxic. Could it Could it be possible that Harlo didn't have my best interests at heart? But what did she even get out of this, though? I'm not sure if this was because she wanted me to rely on her or she's jealous, but either way, knowing she could deceive me like that hurt like crazy. I didn't want to believe that that was what had been happening. But after all explanations, it's so clear now that Harlo was gaslighting me. And ever since then, I tried to avoid her as much as possible.
But this was tricky, seeing as we were in the same class and lived together. I just wished I could grow up fast so I could go to college and leave this house. At least there was good news.
Hank's film in which I starred had gained attention on YouTube and he was even selected to attend the short film festival with a view to supporting the city's young talented filmmakers.
Then one day I arrived home from school to see Harlo's parents drinking coffee with a strange woman. Huh? She sure looked a lot like me. Suddenly, she was running over to me and hugging me in her arms. "Oh, darling, you have no idea how long I've been waiting for this moment."
Following a whole lot of confusion, shocking revelations, and emotions, I finally found out the actual truth. It turned out that when I was 7 years old, mom took me on a yacht trip. Only, there was a terrible accident, so we took the lifeboat to shore. But then mom fell out and ended up being rescued by another boat. We both suffered memory loss. In fact, mom only remembered who I was when she saw the short film I starred in on YouTube. And then she trapped me down here. After that, I returned to live with my real mom. And guess what? I now realize just how awesome I am. I'm grateful to Harlo's parents for looking after me, but I still haven't forgiven Harlo yet. I'm trying to as I know she's not all bad, but it's going to take some time. I also feel so blessed to have Hank by my side to help me discover my confidence and value my own worth. He even says I can be in his next film project, which I'm really excited about.
It's good to know that I'm actually real and I exist outside of Harlo's mind. The world is mine for the taking. And who knows, maybe one day I'll end up being a professional actress.
Hi, I'm Chloe from LA. And no, I wasn't always this fabulous. I grew up poor, but with my best friend Paris by my side, I didn't feel like it. We didn't have money for dolls, so we drew our own. Dressed in outfits we dreamed up after picking fashion magazines from dumpsters. This one's giving billionaire runway. Totally. When we're famous, this will be our first collection. We'll call it from ashes to slay.
Paris was sweet but painfully shy in a way that made everyone want to protect her. At school, we were the broke kids.
No one liked as much. But if there were an award for the most annoying bully of the century, Claire would have won it hands down. She was your classic rich spoiled nightmare who made sure we never had a moment of peace. She teased, humiliated, and laughed louder than her jokes deserved. Paris shrank a little every time. Still, I kept my cool until our junior year when Clare crossed the line. We were doing what we did best when Claire decided it was time to ruin everything. Claire, give that back. Aw, how cute. You two want to be designers.
Poor people can't design. Honey, let me help you get rid of this delusion. She raised a sketchbook and tore it apart.
The rage hit me like a tsunami, and I lunged at her. No one could pull us apart until a teacher came. Because everyone was scared of Clare, they supported her, claiming that I just attacked her without cause. And even Paris was too scared to speak up. I was sentenced to clean 40 toilets as punishment. 40? I could be scrubbing for hours and still wouldn't be done.
Everything felt so unfair. I wanted to cry. But just then, Paris appeared like an angel in a dark tunnel. Need help?
Without waiting for my answer, she started scrubbing the stall with me. She turned the chore into a fun game and happily watched more stalls than I did, even though she had missed all her classes that day. I knew she was making up for being too scared to speak up earlier. But that day, Paris was my angel. I promised myself I'd do something huge for her anytime my life turned around. What I didn't know was that her life would change before mine.
And so suddenly, the following weekend, I went to her house to borrow some notes, and I saw that they were moving.
Paris, what's going on? Oh, hi, Chloe. I was just about to come and tell you. My parents are super rich now. They inherited a large business from a distant relative, so we're moving to a better neighborhood. Oh, really? Well, then I'm going to miss you so much, Paris. Nah, told my parents I'm not changing school so we can still hang out. I was happy Paris stayed at the school, but when she arrived, it was like the royal family was making an entrance. News of her family's sudden wealth had spread. Everyone stared as she walked into school in sparkly designers, even Clare. Hey, Paris. Over here. She was coming toward me when Greg, one of the most quiet boys in our class, smacked into her and spilled the juice in his hand. Omg, Greg, how dare you ruin my bestie's jacket? Get on your knees and apologize now. I'm sorry.
Please, let me wipe it. Hey, it was an accident. And since when did Paris become your bestie? Since she became rich. Paris, you don't need to hang out with a poor loser like Chloe anymore. I expected Paris to reject Claire's shameless attempt to wiggle into her good graces, but what she did next shocked me. She pulled off the jacket and shoved it close to the guy's face. I don't wear filth. Ea fix this without a single scratch or be ready to pay in full. Paris, seriously, it's just a stain, not the end of the world. You can get it cleaned. Stay out of this, Chloe.
Unless you have 5 grand to buy me another jacket. I don't think so. Whoa.
Was she even Paris? my super shy best friend who has never spoken up about anything. Feeling totally insulted, I threw a few bills at her. That should get it cleaned. Without looking back, I grabbed Greg's hand and walked away. I thought Paris would realize she was acting like a jerk and apologized, but instead, she ditched me. She hung out with Claire and the cool crowd. I knew they only liked her for her money, but she was too desperate for popularity to see it. I was sad to lose my best friend. I miss her, Mom. She's at the top now and she's left me behind. Baby, you'll shine one day. Just wait. Okay.
Mom was my rock. Always trying to cheer me up even though things were tough on her. She worked herself to the bone as a waitress and cashier just to keep us going. But instead of things getting better, they got worse. One night, a storm ripped off part of our roof, letting the rain get inside our house.
Cold and shivering, we tried to call the landlord for help, but he didn't care if our house was flooded. We spent the night scooping water and that was when mom made a promise. I'll make enough money for us to get out of this dump, even if I have to work three more jobs.
But I couldn't bear to see her break herself like that. So, I started designing and sewing fancy baby dresses by hand, then selling them to some pedestrians. I was determined to help mom however I could. And one day, my hard work brought me a golden opportunity. You made this? Whoa. You need to enter this. It's a design competition for talents like you. It's organized by Vera Hart, the greatest designer of all time. That moment changed everything. For the sake of the dreams we used to share, I even decided to tell Paris. Mom thought it was a good idea, too. But it would soon become my worst mistake. What are you doing here?
I came to give you this. It's a chance for us to be designers like we used to dream.
Look, I buy designers now. Bye. She slammed the door in my face and I felt so embarrassed and angry. I was definitely not talking to her again.
Soon after that, I went to the address on the flyer to register for the competition that would be starting the following day. And guess who I saw?
Paris, you said you weren't interested.
Like I'd let you become a designer before me. What's your problem, Paris?
Why did you let money change you like this? Everyone changes at the taste of money, Chloe. Everyone. Just as I was about to roast Paris, an old woman came in. Uh, I think you took a wrong turn.
The retirement homes that way.
>> No, I'm here for the competition.
Everyone gaped at her, but all the chairs had already been filled up. Well, tough luck. No chair, no entry. Show some respect, please. I stood up from my chair and gave it to the old lady. Bless you, child. I had to stand for the rest of the registration. My legs hurt while Paris stuck her tongue out like a 5-year-old. When it was over, the woman handed me a pack of shiny beads. You'll be needing this tomorrow. Um, thank you.
I didn't understand what she wanted me to do with it until the day of the first competition stage. We were asked to make our first outfit. The best five would continue to the next round. When I added the beads to the dress, it made it pop.
And I couldn't believe it. I won first place. Paris came in third, and the old woman placed fifth. I couldn't help but wonder why the old lady didn't use the beads for her own dress. So, when I saw her waiting outside to go home, I approached her. Thank you for those beautiful beads. But why didn't you use them? Do these shaky hands look like they can put a thread through a needle, let alone a bead? I'm too old for that stuff. Then why are you in this competition? I don't like poke nosers.
Don't worry, I won't help you again. I didn't mean to. My jaw dropped as a Gwagon stopped before her and a guard got out.
>> Time to go, ma'am. I could only stare.
Who was this old woman with bodyguards in a Gwagon? I didn't have time to think much about the strange woman because the competition soon boiled down to Paris and me. I was ready to give my all and win. But then something happened that threw me off balance. It was supposed to be the last day of the competition week.
I was getting ready when I heard a thud.
It was mom. She'd slipped while cleaning the water from our leaking roof. Next thing I knew, she was in an ambulance.
The doctor said she had broken several bones, and we needed lots of money for her to heal. The time of the final competition between Paris and I arrived, but I couldn't bring myself to leave since Mom was still in the hospital.
Just go to the competition, honey. I will be fine. Mom, I can't leave you like this. I know you're scared, honey, but life doesn't wait for the perfect moment. Go out there and show them who you are. And when you win this, tell me about it. That will make me feel better.
Mom was right. I went to the competition eventually, but since I was so distracted over Mom's ordeal, I lost the first part badly. We only had one more part to go before the winner was decided. But before that, the judge announced a break. I went to use the washroom, hoping to clear my head. I needed to stay strong. Mom needed that prize money. Moments later, the old woman came in. I hadn't spoken to her since that last time she left with a fancy ride. You look beat, kid. Before I could reply, she slipped something into my palm. A tiny blade. Ruin Paris's final outfit, so only yours gets to shine. Easy win. With the way things were going, it was a very tempting suggestion. But I'll win clean or not at all. Suit yourself. Then the old woman left the room with a sneer.
Minutes later, Paris and I were back on stage making our dresses. I forced myself to think of nothing else but doing my best. We finished in the evening and went home, waiting for the judge's decision tomorrow morning. The next day, the judges arrived and Paris and I were asked to present our addresses. But when I unveiled mine, it was shredded like cabbage for salad. Is this a prank or what? I swear it wasn't like this. Be I turned to Paris, who was struggling to hide a smile. Paris, you witch. You did this. I didn't do anything. Oh, yes, you did. Everyone turned to watch the old woman walk in. I now proclaim Chloe the winner of this competition. Wait, what? Why was she announcing the winner? Who was she?
Someone please take her to an old people's home. She's losing. Gasps echoed as the woman suddenly straightened, tossed her cane, and pulled off her wig and shades. My jaw dropped. It was her, the most legendary, mysterious designer in the world. Fear a heart. That's right. I've been searching for a successor with skill, but also compassion. You're talented, sure, but you're arrogant and selfish. You didn't think twice about tearing someone else down to stand taller. But Chloe, even when she had an excuse to cheat, she didn't. That's real strength. I was amazed to discover that the blade stuff had just been a test. The crazy old lady was the icon we all admired, and she chose me. Vera handed me a check for a million bucks as the prize for the competition. Best part, I'd get a personal mentorship from her after school. With some of the money, I paid mom's hospital bill, got us a cozy new home, and stashed the rest in the bank.
I wasn't touching another dime until we had a rock-solid plan to invest it. When I returned to school, I showed up in my favorite thrift wear. But somehow, everyone knew I was rich. So, I wasn't even surprised when Clare hugged me like we were bffs. Look who is a millionaire now. So, what's the first thing on the list? Shopping, party, designer clothes.
I was just about to shove her away when I saw Paris curled up in a corner crying. Paris, what happened?
Apparently, her parents blew their business since they were spending like idiots. They went bankrupt and now they are back to square one. I just gave her a small welcome back to poverty.
I wanted to explode in my anger. Why are you laughing? I thought she was your friend. Was not anymore. You're my new bestie, Chloe. I'd rather have a pig as my bestie. Claire glared at me and left.
Then I sat beside Paris. Chloe, I'm really sorry. When I learned that my parents had gone bankrupt, I was desperate to win. So, I agreed to ruin your dress when Verahheart suggested it.
I'm so ashamed of myself. I'll admit it wasn't easy for me to say no either. You deserved that win. Every bit of it. Can you forgive me? The memory of Paris washing dirty stalls beside me flashed in my head. Despite everything, that moment stuck. Well, I'm not touching that money for at least the next 5 years. So, if you're saying sorry just to get a piece of it, you'd be disappointed.
Thank you. I missed you, Chloe. I missed you, too. Never forget the friends who stuck with you when things were rough.
Those are your real friends. And hey, spend money wisely.
Good night. Good night. Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say good night till it be. Rio de Janeiro.
The whole audience burst into laughter.
What did I just say? Panicked, I checked the script again. Huh? It did say Rio de Janeiro.
I know she's behind it. Lisa, she must have messed with my script. You're probably wondering why I didn't run down to the stands and give her a taste of my shoe. Well, it's complicated. You see, Lisa and I used to be best friends. When I was seven, my family moved to this town and Lisa was my neighbor. Back then, Lisa always seemed lonely as she didn't have any siblings. Her mom was busy with work and her dad was away on business. So, I often came over to hang out with her and eventually we became the best of friends. We had so many things in common. Oh, and even her dad was a cop just like my dad. Lisa never mentioned him, but I know she missed him. But then our 10 years of friendship was recently ruined just because of some boy. You see, Lisa liked this guy called Brent at school. So, being the great friend I am, I tried to help. But Lisa found out that he'd been messaging me and thought that I was flirting with him behind her back. I tried to explain many times, but she refused to listen. So now I became her reluctant enemy. Her sneaky tricks became commonplace. And on this occasion, she won as she got the role of Juliet while I was just a boring maid.
On the day of the play, after finishing the final rehearsal, Lisa suddenly walked up to me and smiled. Sorry about the audition. I've been thinking about it a lot and realized how childish I was. Then Lisa handed me a bottle of my favorite juice to make up. Okay, that's strange. Does she have two completely different personalities inside her or something? Or did she realize how great of a friend I am not to resent her petty tricks? Anyways, seeing as it was her birthday and all, I happily took the bottle of juice and wished her good luck. However, 15 minutes before the performance, I had the worst cramping pains in my stomach. I sprinted at rocket speed to the bathroom, and by the time I got out of there, the show was pretty much over. And guess what? I hadn't had anything that day except for the juice Lisa gave me. Unbelievable.
She did it to me again. I then rushed into the lounge of the drama club and rummaged through Lisa's bag. Bingo.
Inside was a bottle of laxatives. She put it in my drink so I couldn't participate in the show. Ex- best friend or whatever. There's no way I'm going to let her get away with it this time. Then suddenly I found a vintage pocket watch sticking out from the innermost compartment of her bag. I held it in my hand and saw that the number 1999 was engraved on it. Why did it look so familiar? Don't touch my father's belongings.
A voice sounded from behind me and the next thing I knew, Lisa snatched the pocket watch from my hand. Why was she angry? I mean, I was the one who got done over, not her. And also, what did she mean by her father? I was still thinking about it when I arrived home and suddenly saw someone sneaking around outside Lisa's house. Isn't that dad? My dad looked around and then placed a beautifully wrapped gift in front of her door. It must be Lisa's birthday present, but why didn't he just hand it to her directly? When my dad came back inside, I quickly rushed over to him and asked, "Hey, Dad, do you remember the pocket watch that you love so much? I haven't seen it for a while. Where did you put it?" Dad seemed to be flustered by my question. Then he muttered that he'd sold the watch to a pawn shop. I just nodded, but I knew he was lying, as he treasured that watch too much to ever sell it. Why did he give it to Lisa then lie to me? Could it be that Lisa is my dad's illegitimate daughter? And the fact that my dad insisted on moving here, was it just so he could be close to his mistress and his child?
Lisa had stolen my role, and now she wanted to take my dad away from me, too.
I'd had enough. It's time for me to give her a taste of her own medicine. The next day at school, I made sure Lisa was watching as I flirted with Brent, then linked arms with him.
She looked like she was going to explode with anger. Then I told everybody in class that Lisa's father wasn't away on business and that she only said this as he had another family and abandoned her when she was little. The rumors must have gotten back to Lisa as the next thing I knew she was confronting me as I walked out of the toilet cubicle. How dare you say that stuff about my dad?
You're a horrible liar. Then we ended up in a nasty hair tugging fight. It was so bad a teacher had to come in and pull us apart. Then the principal called our parents. Luckily for us, my dad and Lisa's mom decided not to make this a big deal because of our close neighborly relations. Yeah, as if. However, my dad still made me apologize to Lisa and her mom.
Dad, why do I have to apologize? It's not like she apologized to me for putting laxatives in my drink. You were wrong to spread those untrue rumors about her. But what were the laxatives about? I thought you two were friends.
Since when did you guys become this resentful towards each other? I wasn't lying. They're the truth. Are you defending Lisa over me just because you feel guilty that she's her secret daughter? Christy, what did you say? I explained how I knew about the watch and therefore I'd figured out his secret. He was silent for a long time, then sighed and said, "Actually, Lisa's dad was a colleague of mine. He was a good man who worked hard at his job. We had this difficult case involving a notorious criminal gang. And unfortunately, her dad passed away while on duty. In his last moments, he gave me his pocket watch as a momento and asked me to look after his 4-year-old daughter, Lisa. Her mom and I couldn't break the heart of that little girl, so we said her father was away from home on business and would return when she'd be 18 years old. As for me, I would pretend to be her father to occasionally send gifts and letters to her. When you and Lisa were seven, I decided to move here in order to easily take care of her. And as you know, I gave her that pocket watch, her father's last momento.
But why did you lie to her like that?
Lisa was too young at that time to accept such an ugly truth. Her mom and I didn't have much choice either. I was expecting her to get used to it and stop waiting for her dad. But it's true that we didn't expect things to be like this.
On her last birthday, I continued to play the role of her father and left a present at the door with an apology for not being able to come home due to a busy schedule. But we know we can't keep this from her anymore. It's heartbreaking to see her longing for her dad so persistently.
So, it turned out that all my speculations were wrong. Not only that, but I also spread false rumors and hurt my friend. Oh god, what had I done? How could I put this right?
That night, I sent Lisa a long text apologizing, but she didn't reply. So, the next morning, I waited at her door to go to school together, but she just walked straight past me. Looking at her distraught face, my heart filled with remorse.
I just entered the school gate when someone tapped me on the shoulder. Want to go see a play with me tonight? Brent held out two theater tickets. Oh, it was for the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime. I was desperate to see that back when Lisa and I were still friends. We talked about going to see it. Wait, Lisa? That's right. So, I lied to Brent that I was busy and told him to ask Lisa to go with him instead. Lisa looked so thrilled that Brent had asked her out.
Now my conscience was clear. Lisa and Brent would realize they liked each other and finally get together properly.
Then she'd forgive me, right? Anyway, I did have an essay coming up, so I went to a quiet coffee shop and studied there till late. But when I got home, I walked through the door to smashed up ornaments and the sound of my parents arguing. So you've been lying to me and Kirsty for all these years? How could you have a secret child the same age as your daughter? Aren't you ashamed of yourself?
What's going on? Did she know about Lisa? I quickly ran to stop her. Mom, it's not what you think. I thought so too at first, but you have to listen to Dad. Those lies may fool you, but they can't fool me. Lisa is his illegitimate daughter. That poor girl came here and told me. I tried reasoning with mom, but she was too upset to listen. With a slam of the door, she left. Dad plopped down on the couch and gave a solemn sigh. I sat next to him, comforting him that maybe it was Lisa's misunderstanding.
Dad, we have to tell Lisa the truth.
I'll approach her first to test the water, and then when she seems to be emotionally stable, you will come and talk to her. Okay. The next day, as soon as I arrived at school, I immediately went to look for Lisa. There she was, standing by her locker with her arms folded. I walked over to her, but before I could say anything, she shouted, "Stop acting as if you're that noble. I know Brent only invited me to the theater cuz you told him to. Why do you wish to embarrass me so much?" Then Lisa burst into tears. "If my dad was still alive, he would protect me from mean girls like you." I gaped at Lisa. She already knew everything. But if so, why did she tell my mom the day before that my dad was also her dad? I stood there, refused to move until she told me the truth.
Eventually, she blurted out that on her 18th birthday, she saw my dad leaving a gift in front of her house. Suspecting something was up, she mustered up the courage to ask her mom everything. It devastated her to learn that her long-awaited dad was just totally a madeup lie by my dad. She was full of rage towards my dad and me. So, she lied to my mom so we'd know what it felt like to have a broken family. I was furious.
How dare she do this to my family? But as she sobbed out an apology, my anger faded right away, and I only felt so sorry for her instead. What she had gone through was really unbearable. I hugged her tightly and the pair of us cried our eyes out. When we both calmed down, we decided to have a frank talk with our families. I told Lisa I didn't mind sharing my dad with her as he loves her like his own daughter anyway. But in return, Lisa needed to apologize to my mom and explain everything to her so she'd come back home. So finally, my mom has returned and our two families are at peace again. I'm so sorry. I was out of my mind. I didn't mean to hurt you, Mom.
Oh, I mean Mrs. Lamont.
Everyone burst out laughing. I also took the opportunity to give Lisa's mom a big hug and called her my mom, just like Lisa did. We were all chatting away happily when the doorbell rang. Lisa and I both went to open the door and saw Brent standing there holding a bouquet of flowers. He had this bewildered look on upon seeing us both here. But you know what? It doesn't matter which one of us he was looking for. There's no need for a boyfriend right now cuz I already have my best friend right here.
Or should I say my sister.
I was chewing popcorn watching my favorite channel with my bestie Diana when I heard Juliana's screeching voice.
Cheryl, EMERGENCY, HELP ME. I dashed towards her room to see her struggling with clothes. Oh my dear, you're here.
Come and help me choose which bag would suit my gown better, Gucci or Versace.
Is this your emergency? Yes, absolute emergency. I must look fab on tonight's date. What? A date? Don't you remember you just cried your eyes out for some jerk yesterday? Can you believe her?
Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. Hi, I'm Cheryl living in New York. And that's Juliana, my aunt. My parents passed away when I was little. Since then, Juliana moved in and became my guardian as per their will. She was funny and expected to make good company in this huge house. But most of the time she wasn't around. The only time she sat down with me was, "I just bought him a brand new Bentley to walk his dog the other day, but the next day he immediately dumped me. He said he wanted to share my burden, but seeing how heavy my 20 karat diamond necklace is, he stole it and ran away."
My auntie always loved with all her heart. only her taste in men really needs some fixing. As you can see, all gold diggers. But for some reason, she refused to see those red flags and still hooked on them like a crazy bull. And inevitably, her long list of heartbroken stories keep getting longer and longer.
Recently, Juliana met someone new and dined out every day. But you know how it's going to end. Once they steal something from her, they surely would run away and leave her inconsolable back to me. Actually, I've once dated a guy like that, but of course, I'm not easy to deceive like Juliana. Once I sensed something fishy about that guy, I kicked him in his butt right away. That's why it's my first and also my only relationship I've been in, but no big deal. I have my bestie Diana. She might look timid, but really reliable. She knew everything about me.
Then one day, Juliana asked me to join them for dinner. Wasn't this the first time she introduced her boyfriend to me?
But this guy was kind of special or even strange to her usual style. H Juliana only ever dated six-pack guys. But now, what's this overweight, short, and bald man doing here? Auntie, are you all right? But the real bummer was he brought along his son, who also happened to be Andrew, my freaking gold digger ex. It all happened when I was 14, the age where everyone was in a relationship except me and Diana. One day, my class gathered to play kiss spin the bottle.
And on my turn, the bottle pointed to Andrew, the only boy in my class who was single at that time. Friends screamed in extreme excitement and started to push us together and we kissed. Since then, my classmate started to ship us as a couple until one time Andrew came to me.
Hey, you don't have a boyfriend. I don't have a girlfriend. Why don't we become an item? Our friends seem to like it, too. Stupid offer, right? But 14-year-old me thought it's a good idea to join the dating circle like my friends after all. I mean, being the only single girl really sucked. And he surely got a look and would make a good match with me. So, I agreed. And we became official and did what other couples do, from holding hands to public kissing. Andrew turned out to be a good acting partner. And it was quite fun, to be honest. Except for those moments where I wish I could just end his life.
Bae, I'm hungry. Get me something. Uh, but he's still totally wrapped up in finishing his 10th burger until I nudged him. That did he pay attention to his starving girlfriend? Aw, my bae is hungry. Then eat, my love. Uh, but what was it? I opened my eyes to find out he fed me his greasy finger. Ew, that definitely raised my hackles up. I stood up and gave him my tantrum, but he had the audacity to fight back. If Diana hadn't stopped me there, I swear I was going to give him some scratches. But still, we both had to settle down our first couple fight to continue our loveydovey girlfriend boyfriend thing.
Things ran quite so smoothly that sometimes I thought I was in a real relationship.
Then one day I was walking in the schoolyard to hear some boys talking.
Hey, Andrew and Cheryl have been together for 2 months, right? Yeah. I can't believe our spin the bottle trick that day could be that successful. Shout out to our handsome boy, Andy, who's willing to go into the lioness's den to help us earn some more allowance from our rich lady. Perfect. And now the bait is taken. It's time to give Andrew the cue to action. What? So Andrew's offer only comes from an attempt of leeching on to me? How dare he? I immediately stormed away to find him. Sit on a bench. Hi bae. Why the long face? Who stole your food? Drop your act. I know you're just a gold digger. What gibberish are you talking about? I don't know what's going on with you, but don't put it on me. He still had the guts to deny it and even dared to go berserk at me. We're over. Not long after, he moved to another city with his family. Good riddance. And from that moment, I said no to boys, as they only come to me for money. I didn't expect to see this jerk again, especially in this kind of situation. I dragged him outside. You have to stoop this low. Couldn't get my money, so now you asked your dad to steal from my aunt. Quit thinking everything has to spin around you just because you have some money. I just want my dad happy and he seemed to like your aunt. I warn you, don't cause any trouble. The next morning, I woke up to the most shocking news ever. Cheryl, Mr. Hardy and I are engaged. The wedding is soon to be decided, and two families will move in together. What on earth?
They've known each other for hardly 2 months, and now they're getting married.
What? This hardy guy must have put some kind of spell on Juliana. Wait, so Andrew the jerk, he's my cousin now? No.
I can't let him rob me one more time. I so needed some bestie talk right now.
But why is Diana clinging to Andrew? I rushed over without a second thought.
Hey, what's going on here? Are you blind? We're seeing each other now. What kind of gibberish did I just hear? I dragged Diana away immediately. You better have a proper reason. I I'm sorry. You know too well what kind of person he is. Why? Um, can you do me a favor? You and Andrew are living under the same roof now, but can you keep a distance from him? What? Are you for real? You know, I'm a bit insecure.
Okay, fine. You worry for nothing anyway. In no scenario do I want to be near him. What's wrong with the people around me? Frustrated, I came home but to see Andrew's dad in my house. We just moved back to the city, so it's taking more time for our housing contract to settle. So, we'll have to live in your place just for now. Is it okay? Of course, bae. This castle is too big for the two of us anyway, right, Cheryl?
Yeah. How convenient for you, Mr. Hardy?
Just move in and all this house and cars are all yours to use now. And that's how Andrew and his dad entered my life and made it miserable. Every single night, he kept bothering me with this screeching sound that I couldn't stay focused on studying. Stop it or I'm going to throw away your flute. Pity you can't comprehend art, cousin. Not just that, I had to share a bathroom with him, which now rather turned into his own exhibition of Star Wars obsession from towels, doormats, or even toothbrushes. Literally everything. He even left his stinky football jersey for days. Ew. And of course, I couldn't let Andrew invasion continue like that. I draw the boundary to set my territory.
Hey, that's not fair. You got an inch more. What? Obviously not. And you know where he got his annoying nature from?
Yeah, you guessed that, right? His dad one day brought a full box of tools and left them everywhere in my house. Then he dragged every old item out of the basement and got them fixed. Hey, this castle wasn't supposed to be his mechanic shop, and we have enough money to buy new stuff. One day, I told Juliana my bed was too high, and I wanted a new one. But Mr. Hardy was faster and insisted on fixing my bed.
But when I lied on it, it collapsed immediately. Help my butt. I just know it's his tactics to win Juliana's heart.
And seemed like it worked as my aunt, who was never seen in the kitchen, now volunteered to show off her cooking skills. Wow. Love's power, they say.
Then let's see how love would burn.
I just happened to heat up their love by adding some super hot chili into Mr. Hardy's portion. And after the first bite, he ended up crying like a baby.
>> Don't you know I have a peptic ulcer?
>> Then he held his stomach and left the table. Juliana hurriedly followed him to the room, all looking concerned. New trick to weedle some more gifts.
Impressive.
>> It's you, right?
>> Me? What? I ignored him and went back to my delicious sub. But this party pooper stole the dish and scoffed like being left starving for decades. Okay, fine.
If you insist. You just pushed all of my buttons, you I snatched his dish and finished the steak in front of him, and I could see his eyes turned red in anger. And that's when the fort fight broke out between us until the maids came in to prevent any more calamity.
The next morning, I saw my aunt taking Mr. Hardy to the hospital. Oh, I didn't expect it to be that bad. Right then, a delivery man came. Oh my my. Wasn't it Green Day? My favorite band of all time.
But this vinyl was rare. Not everyone could have this. Who Who bought it? It's mine. You? Hey, cousin. Can you pay for me? I spent all my money on game yesterday.
Classic. Fine, I'll pay to make up for the prank yesterday. Okay, but with a condition, I'll unbox a vinyl. We returned to the living room and opened the vinyl. The cool guitar riffs and engaging lyrics gives me chills every time. When my jam was playing, I sang it out loud like usual. And notice Andrew did too. And just like that, we sang together until the song ended. And we started to talk about Green Day non-stop. American Idiot was the best album ever written. Fight me. No, Andrew, idiot. Dookie was the one that established our name. You call me idiot?
Then you might listen to Dookie too much that turned you into a into Cheryl Poopy as well. What? I'm Cheryl Cherry Bomb.
Too much for spending time with this jerk this morning. His taste in music is okay, but his personality is definitely not. One day at school, while I was busy with my homework, suddenly a boy stormed in my place. Hey beauty, I get a dare.
Would you mind giving me a kiss? What? I very very mind. Get off me. But he still leaned towards and trying to press his dry as the bark of a tree lips on mine.
One day at school while I was busy with my homework, suddenly a boy stormed in my place. Hey beauty, I get a dare.
Would you mind giving me a kiss? What? I very very mind. Get off me. But he still leaned towards and trying to press his dry as the bark of a tree lips on mine.
No way. All I gave him was a slap on the face to shake the last sense back to him. Come on. It's just a truth for a dare game. Don't need to overreact like that. Yeah, that's right. Just give them a kiss, Cheryl. And don't act so highly.
It's not every day that someone offers to kiss you. Gosh, these dudes might as well need to be taught a lesson then.
Hey, stop. It's a game to you, but not to her. And she has a right to act on her own will. Huh? Andrew was defending me. What's wrong with him today? Who told you I need your help? Those boys really killed my mood today. that I couldn't focus on anything else. All of a sudden, I heard Green Day playing and soon I lost my negative thoughts to the song and became completely absorbed in it. And you know who's the idiot that played it. The next day, Diana took me out for some retail therapy. Hey, about yesterday. Are you okay? Yeah, I'm fine now. Such a relief, Cheryl. But just a little reminder, please don't misunderstand that my boyfriend has something with you. He was just being kind, you know.
>> What? Me? With your boyfriend? As if.
Even if he's the last boy on the planet, I'd never like him. Really? That's all I want to hear. I get this, please.
Sometimes I couldn't understand my friend. But what if you still had feelings for me? Would I? What am I thinking? Get yourself together, Cheryl.
After a fun shopping day, we separated and I went home to see Mr. Hardy wearing apron doing something in the kitchen.
Ah, you're home. Juliana is in Paris for 2 weeks for some urgent business. 2 weeks? How was I supposed to live with just these two obnoxious people for the whole 2 weeks? But wait, Juliana is on a business trip. How strange. She's never done that kind of thing. Right that moment, I got a message saying she had to fly out to negotiate some deal for the cosmetic she was using. Well, that explained. Perhaps getting married made her become more mature, I guess.
>> Cheryl, go wash up. Dinner is waiting.
I've prepared your favorite.
>> And the food Mr. Hardy cooked was surprisingly delicious. More strangely, over the next few days, I realized being with them wasn't a nightmare as I thought it would be. Mr. Hardy was an excellent cook and always tended to my favorite list. So, to pay back, I volunteered to do the cleaning. You're doing the dishes. Make sure you don't break any. Let me save them. No need.
You do? He's right. I couldn't finish it all by myself. We were working peacefully when I felt something cold on my cheek. He's splashing water on me.
Angril, I splashed him back. It was fun, except for how soaked our hairs and shirts were. Gosh, how old are you both?
>> One day after dinner, Andrew asked me to go with him to the grocery store. Okay, fine. But I wouldn't carry any bags.
Then we took a stroll around the neighborhood. The city at night with flickering lights did have some soothing effect. Yours is chocolate, right? Can I take a bite?
Then he had like half of my ice cream.
Oops. Sorry. You can have mine. That's fine. Seemed like our princess is in a good mood today. Normally, you chase me all the way down the street. That's true. I hate to admit, but since Andrew and his dad moved in, I found myself happier and more relaxed. Hey, did I say something wrong? And for some reason, my words naturally blurted out about how lonely I had felt in my own house. When my parents passed away, Juliana is my only family. But she's too drowned in her own flashy hobbies, sparing no time for me. Not until recently, she spent more time at home, which is good anyway.
I didn't know that, Cheryl. So, we have more in common than I thought. Actually, my childhood wasn't as wonderful either.
My mom and dad got divorced when I was seven. I just thought it's because they're not meant for each other. But turns out mom was having an affair, which made dad devastated and close his heart to everyone until he met your aunt. Hoor Mr. Hardy and Andrew. My aunt actually had changed ever since she's been with Mr. Hardy, too. Maybe they're the right ones for each other. We kept walking along the riverbank, and chatting with Andrew wasn't bad, like I thought, or even good in some way.
Suddenly, he tripped over something and fell on the ground. Gosh, you're bleeding. Sit here. I'm going to buy some bandage. But I didn't manage to get too far before witnessing a scene I wish I didn't. A day after Juliana came back from the business trip, she immediately called for a family meeting and announced the unexpected. Cheryl, Andrew, we have something to tell you both. Mr. Hardy and I decided our relationship has come to an end. What?
Why so sudden, Dad? Mr. Hardy didn't say anything, but seemed to not take it well either. Then Andrew turned to me for an explanation, but I just couldn't bear his look. It's just we realize we're not for each other. You'd better move out soon. Empty and awkward atmosphere covered the room. The news hit us hard.
Mr. Hardy kept silent until they're about to go. You should cook for Cheryl more often. She likes stir fry veggie.
Drop it. Stop acting like you understand me better than my aunt. Get out of my house now. Take care, Cheryl. They've gone out of our lives just like I always wanted. But what is this aching feeling?
Days after at school, Andrew kept trying to talk to me, but I avoided him by all means until once he took me surprise and pulled me to a corner. Cheryl, tell me why did they break up? You must have known something, right? I I didn't you listen to my aunt. They're just not made for each other. You're You're hiding something. Stop bothering me. We're not related anymore. I walked away as fast as possible. Seeing his face was the last thing I wanted now. Thank god Diana found me. I'm sorry for that, Cheryl. By the way, I dump Andrea. Like father, like son, better stay away from them all. Yeah, it should have been that from the start. Things went peacefully for a week. Diana was always around and soon my days were filled with her presence and care. I felt thankful to have a best friend like her around at this time.
Then one day, Andrew suddenly approached me in rage. It's you, right? What? Then he showed me the lipstick he found in his dad's bag and some lip marks on his shirt as well. That's when he suspected Mr. Hardy was having an affair, causing the rift between him and Juliana. But dad said he would never do that and I trusted him. What happened with mom devastated dad. So no way would he do the same thing with anyone else which left you the only one who's behind this, right? What? How is it here? Yes, it's me. It's me. So what? But why did you have to do it? Isn't it the day after I asked Diana to meet me in a cafe? Diana, my aunt and Mr. Hardy are getting back together. Can you believe how could it be possible? Ah, one more thing. You forgot this at my place. I I Why did you do this, Diana? Is it just because you're afraid I would steal your Andrew?
I told you I'd never steal my bestie's boyfriend. What's going on here? Didn't we just fake date Diana? Andrew? You guys just faked date? But why? Then he said that he just moved back here. He wanted to talk to me to untangle the misunderstanding in the past in hopes everything would get cleared and we might get back together. But Diana approached him and suggested they fake date to see how I would react first. I thought it's kind of a good idea, so I agreed. Have you both lost your mind?
Why did you suggest such a thing? It It bugged me when seeing you living together. So So I had to separate you again. Again? What does this mean? It's not the first time you did this, right?
I I I couldn't bear seeing you together because because I like you, Cheryl, for a long time now. So back years ago when you became Andrew's girlfriend for some stupid game, I tried to end it as soon as possible. Turns out Diana paid the boys to fabricate the story of Andrew setting up the game to deceive me for money and intentionally let me hear their conversation. So that meant I wrongly accused Andrew. I trusted you as a best friend and share everything with you, even my insecurities. But you just use it as a means to satisfy your selfishness. I I didn't mean it. And now you're even willing to sabotage my family's happiness for your own needs.
You've gone too far. Diana was wrong.
But not this time. Actually, Andrew, Diana wasn't the reason why your dad and my aunt broke up. It's me. No, it's her who put the lipstick on my dad's bag.
Remember? It's true, but my aunt never found this lipstick. Ironically, your dad was supposed to be accused of having an affair, but in fact, my aunt was the one who really did. You remember the night we went to the grocery store? I was looking for a pharmacy, but happened to see my aunt hands in hand with another man. Why is your Paris business trip involved having a fling with another man? Do I have to remind you that Mr. Hardy and you are getting married? Don't you love him? Cheryl, I love him dearly. I don't know what's gotten into me. I'm sorry. Say it to Mr. Hardy. That's when I know my aunt wasn't faithful to your dad, so I forced her to break up with Mr. Hardy immediately. Why keep it from us? I know your dad and you wouldn't take this well after what happened with your mom, so I didn't want to rub the old scars. I'm sorry, Andrew.
I went home to see Juliana with her suitcases. Cheryl, you're home. Sit here. I want to talk to you. There's something I wasn't honest with you, Cheryl. Then she admitted that there's actually no gold diggers trying to deceive her. It's her who put all of the relationships in ruin as she quickly got bored with them and quickly turned into another guy when still in a relationship. I lied because I don't want you to think ill of me, but I didn't expect it would make you hold a negative opinion on boys. Trust me, Pumpkins, one day you'll definitely find a boy who loves you truly. Then hold him dearly, will you? Don't be like me.
Lapsed up into old ways and ended up losing an incredible man. I'm glad you learned that. And now I have to go. I was asked to take care of you until you're 18. And hell, you are now. I believe my pumpkin can live on her own feet from now. Bye. I hope you could lead your independent life, too, auntie.
Now, all the truth was revealed, letting out the secret that was relieving after all. I was sitting on our favorite spot at school, but beside me wasn't Diana anymore. I got this letter from her in my locker this morning. Hi, Cheryl. I apologize again for my selfish acts. I should have known better that love cannot be forced and I'm also grateful to your big heart. I always cherish every moment shared with you. Though it's hard, I have to go now to find a way to heal myself. Take care, Cheryl.
Diana, kiss. My best wishes are with you, Diana. Why the dumb face? Without letting me crack a word. Out of nowhere, Andrew snatched my earphones. Green Day, you're too predictable, Cheryl. Why are you here? I saw you sitting alone, so I guess you might need a companion. Yeah, Diana's moved to another city, you know.
Yeah, she'll be fine. Andrew, I'm sorry for wrongly accusing you back then. I was too childish and impulsive. I should have listened to you first. That's fine.
Actually, I have something to tell you, too. You know, when you said you're the one who broke up, Dad and Juliana, I was really angry. But, but a part of me was kind of happy because that would mean you didn't want us to be cousins. Cuz I didn't want that either. I want more.
Cheryl, would you be my girlfriend again? Hm. Let's see. I might or might not want that.
I'm kidding. Of course, I'd love to, Andrew. Then he pulled me for the most magical kiss ever. H I forgot. Dad asked you to drop by for dinner tonight. Did he? Yeah. I should have missed that. I will ask him to make fried chicken burrito. Baked zi. Greek salad. Isn't it too much? I'm not finished.
Hey y'all, your one and only Miley Cyrus is back once again with the Spencer sister story. Things were getting more complicated, right? Where were we? Oh, yeah. Scarlet was determined to bring keyboard warriors who cyberbullied her and Naomi to justice. And soon she accomplished just that. But Scarlet was shocked to her core to see a familiar face among them. That's Naomi. What in the world? Even your girl is shookth.
What's going to happen next? Let's find out in this episode. From the moment their eyes met, Scarlet was completely dumbfounded. Scarlet, I I Why? How could you, Naomi? Naomi said nothing and just kept her head down. But Scarlet could no longer stand on her own feet. I'm okay, Naomi. A word, please. Why do you look like this? And why you did this? You know what? When those constant waves of comments tormented me, do you know how I kept my head above water? I told myself, I don't really know them. Their words can never hurt me. But I can't wrap my head around the fact that the one hurting me is my own sister. As soon as Athena got news from Scarlet, she dashed to the police station and then arrived in the middle of the sister's argument.
Scarlet, before you call me the worst names in existence, I want you to trust me and know that it's simply how I handle stress. Seriously, hear me out. I was so happy for you in the beginning.
But eventually, jealousy just started creeping in. I felt small and insignificant living under the same roof as a head turning popular big sister. It got worse when people on the internet started comparing me to you and I felt like I was nothing but a piece of trash.
Gradually, I found myself coming to your haters forum and that's a slippery slope. Being among them made me feel like I mattered, like those people actually listened to what I had to say.
It's like I was finally someone and I didn't want it to end. Before Scarlet could react, Athena couldn't stop herself from sobbing out loud. And the girl saw her. Mom. To their surprise, Athena suddenly slumped down. It's all my fault I led you two down this path.
Never have Scarlet seen Athena like this. And neither did Naomi. Where had the icy tyrant woman gone? Naomi, you have to stop before it's too late. It will eat you up and swallow you whole.
Sorry, Mom, but if you're really my mother, you shouldn't have stopped me when you refused to help me. You could have just let me do whatever I wanted, and I could have figured it out the hard way myself. And from now on, I want to be free from you. I want people to know me as me. Naomi, not your sister. We belong in different worlds. Naomi, I can't even recognize you anymore. Naomi didn't say a thing and was going to leave, but police officers immediately seized her. Just let her go. Then Scarlet and Athena returned to the suspect's lineup and saw that Finn was still there with an anxious look on his face. Scarlet, where have you been? You okay? Scarlet couldn't hold her anger any longer and screamed at the lineup.
See how you've ruined our lives? Happy now? You carelessly threw around that bone crushing hate for language just for fun and never paid those on the other end any mind. Now you'll face my wrath.
You're Athena Kingsley of Elite Talent Management, aren't you? Why you? Oh, yeah. I am um my mother. Come again?
>> Yeah, she's my mother. Don't act so surprised. Mom, this is Finn, my agency's creative director. I'll go with her. Get home safe. Okay, wait here.
I'll get the car. While waiting for Scarlet, Athena and Finn had a little chat. It's a pleasure to meet the famous Ms. Kingsley. I've heard great things about you. Oh, you've made quite a name for yourself as well, Mr. Finn Simpson.
Well, that would be exaggerating. Him? I see the way you look at Scarlet. I can tell there's something bubbling under it. She might look like a tough cookie, but she's my sweet, sensitive girl.
Treat her well, or I'll crush you into a fine powder and scatter it on Mount Oblivion. You hear me? Yes. Loud and clear. and Naomi. That girl's quite a handful, isn't she? Since she's under your management as well. Keep an eye on her for me, would you? Yes, ma'am. Can't forget that. Right then, Scarlet halted the car in front of them. Mom, let's go.
Finn, you're still here. Well, I'll see you again soon. Bye. Scarlet and her mom didn't say a word the whole way. Perhaps they were both exhausted from today's crazy mess. If it were me, I would just lie down and sleep it off like a log till morning. Unexpectedly, Athena blurted out, "Scarlet, could you take me to your dad now?" Why so sudden? Cuz I was still mad and didn't want to see his face. No, the truth is I'm a coward who wouldn't dare face him. Until today, do I have the guts? They drove to her father's hospital room to find him sleeping peacefully. Let me wake him up.
It's all right. Let him sleep. Then Scarlet went out to give them some privacy. Remember me? It's been a hot minute, hasn't it? How come we only met again when you can't hear a word I say?
Let alone answer. I know you're still mad at me. And I was mad at you, too, but I've learned to live with it. and seeing how well you raised our babies made me feel much more at ease. I've done nothing to help them all these years. Yet, they turned on each other all because of me. I promise I'll make things right. Trust me, and please forgive me." Then Athena left right away. But little did she know, her voice did reach him. If anything happens, call me right this instant. Okay. Right after their goodbye, Scarlet received a text message from Finn. Want to go for a walk?
>> This is the first time I've been to the beach at night. I love how serene it is.
How did you find such a cool place?
There's so much you don't know about me.
Then they sat down for a heart-to-he heart talk. The gentle breeze and the sound of waves soothed their jaded souls. Um, things do be crazy, right?
Kind of. But you've been so strong. I'm sorry for dragging you into this. And thank you for staying by my side. It's been a while since I felt this calm and so long since I saw your carefree smile.
By the way, I just saw the news about an influencer contest, which sounds interesting.
>> Isn't it American influencer? Yeah, I was about to tell you, too. Want to sign up?
>> Do you think I can win? Of course I do.
You're good at everything you do, especially messing with me. I mean, my thoughts. Okay, then. Where shall I begin? My looks, retake a soft skill course, and and enough about work. Okay. Scarlet was taken aback, then went with the flow.
They gave each other the sweetest kiss ever. The golden moonlight shining on the shimmering sea made the night even more romantic. Okay, guys, you've seen enough movies to know what's happening.
Shall we talk about Naomi a bit? After the incident at the police station, she had a mental breakdown for a week straight and isolated herself from the rest. She lived like a zombie in her own apocalypse till one day, "I've dwelled in misery long enough. This calls for a rebirth. Let the best version of me be born." And so, she entered her transformation era, invigorated and ready. She even chopped off her long hair and went through minor plastic surgery to add some highlights to her face. I got the sort of perfect looks down. Nothing will stand in my way of success. Wow. Got to admit, she's kind of rocking this cool new look. Reminds me of my wrecking ball era. During this time, Naomi still replied to her mom and Scarlet's messages, but meeting up was still a no no. The only one she saw regularly was her dad, to whom she could pour out all her thoughts. I'm much better now. You don't have to come so often anymore. This much back and forth is going to wear you out.
>> It's what I want to do. Anyway, I'll be a bit busy this time around, so I actually can't see you as much. Please rest up so you can come home and celebrate my accomplishments. All right, you betcha. Better get going then. Don't make them wait. As soon as Naomi left, Mr. Spencer's smile disappeared. His expression was of pure agony. Maybe he's not doing as well as we thought. Hi, Finn. Long time no see. Naomi, you look different, but in a good way. Listen, I thought it through. I want to go professional. Help me, will you? Yeah, sure. I want to join. No, I'll win this competition. As if on Q, Scarlet appeared. Naomi? Oh, Scarlet. Perfect timing. Naomi, featuring her brand new appearance is back. Do you know how worried I am? Come on. She must have her own reason. Truce. By the way, Scarlet, have you decided on the influencer contest? Naomi is in it, too. The stage is all yours, ladies. She's joining, too. No. Two sisters competing against each other in the same competition at this time is like kicking off the third world war. No thanks. I'm not interested anymore. Losing interest all of a sudden. I want to compete fair and square with you. So put away that patronizing attitude. I don't need it.
No, I don't. I just Fine, watch me. Come on, relax. Relax. Relax. You both win.
Okay. Scarlet and Naomi exchanged sulky looks but can't hold it for long before bursting out laughing for no reason.
Come to think of it, Naomi is very much like your mom. Full of determination and ambition. Yeah, I took after dad and got the easygoing Jean. I guess that happens to every sibling duo. True to her words, Scarlet followed a laid-back lifestyle which drew lots of fans to her. Now, this is not just a job, but also a passion of hers, sharing good tips and spreading positive energy to everyone.
Meanwhile, Naomi was hard at work to be ready for the competition. She tried, tried, and tried to grow in every aspect and pushed herself hard in the gym. She also read tons of books, enjoyed courses to enhance every skill she thought might be necessary. 24 hours a day didn't seem enough. There were days when she worked her butt off till bedtime, and she simply let her body crawl into deep sleep without changing into her PJs or doing her nighttime skincare routine.
Still, Athena and Scarlet always kept a worried eye on Naomi. Now, we can help.
>> I'm sorry, but I need to focus. I'm so sorry. I want to make you proud, and I can't afford any distraction. When Scarlet told Finn, he said he'd handle this. Since then, Finn spent more time with Naomi and her adviser, and they became close. Scarlet saw how Naomi brightened up, but couldn't help but feel uneasy. Of course, she'd feel that way. Finn spending less time with her.
Scarlet, wake up. Now is not the time for this nonsense. Nah, I feel you, girl. There's something I hadn't told you. After that night's big kiss, Finn professed his love and they became an item. Yay! The competition finally commenced. Scarlet, Athena, and Finn were in the audience awaiting Naomi's performance. Out of the blue, Scarlet got a call from her dad's personal nurse. Scarlet, your dad's condition is getting real bad. You'd better get here now. Should we tell Naomi about this? Of course, we should. Yes, you'll regret not telling her. Right then, the host announced, "It's Naomi's turn." Scarlet immediately ran up and dragged Naomi backstage. Naomi, we have to go. It's Dad. He's getting worse, I'm afraid.
What? Dad? I just saw him a few days ago and he was fine. Why now? I don't know, Scarlet. I'm sorry, but this is my last chance. Please take care of him for me.
I have to go. Then Scarlet, Athena, and Finn immediately left, but they were only a few steps away when they saw Naomi black out on stage. At the same time, Mr. Spencer was also fighting his own battle. His prognosis was bad.
>> We're sorry. We've tried our best.
>> No. No. No. Dad.
>> Dad. Dad, please don't go. Dad, you're awake. Calm down. What were you dreaming about to be sweating like this? Dad, where's Dad? Then there was a familiar voice from the bed next to hers. I'm right here. It's truly a blessing that Mr. Spencer's no longer in critical condition. And you, you fainted on stage and were taken to the ER.
Some time had passed when their dad and Naomi became stable. I couldn't remember the last time we went here together. I still remember how much I hated this place, but now I think it's grown on me.
I can kind of appreciate it now. Why did you suddenly want to go home and leave everything behind? I've always wanted to make something of myself, so I chased after something I didn't really understand like crazy. The moment I saw Dad left us for heaven, I felt dead on the inside. Even though it was just a dream, I can now look back and safely say I was wrong all this time. You know, to me, being in show business means creating values for your audience. Fame is sort of a byproduct, not the end result. Being famous feels almost unreal, like a fever dream. Those who fly to us today might turn their back on us the next day. Only familiar love will remain till the end unconditionally.
Mr. Spencer returned to his beloved diner, and today's special since these four were giving him a hand. Sit down. I got this. Hey, my help expires today, old man. Enjoy it when you can. I ain't here tomorrow. Oh, hey. I saw your daughter on TV yesterday. She really is going places. She's a whole package. A beautiful face and a heart of gold. I saw her on a charity program, too.
Scarlet was still shining bright in her own way. You're actually looking at the receiver of the influencer of the year award, but now she's got another loyal fan for herself. All right, that's about it, folks. Poof. Just telling you guys this story gave me a spinning headache.
Luckily, everyone has their own happy ending. Scarlet and Finn are getting engaged next month. Oops, that's not in the script. Sh, I didn't tell you nothing. Being famous seems great and all, but remember, don't let it control you. Comment below if you want to see me in another episode.
Hi, I'm Nella. I was raised by a single mom alongside my twin sister, Nancy. Mom was the CEO of a beauty company she managed to establish after our soldier dad passed away and was obsessed with making us look our best to attract customers. But mom just didn't understand that I wasn't a fan of plastering my face with makeup. Even body lotions made me feel like a slippery eel. My sister Nancy, on the other hand, was a beauty enthusiast, just like mom. Like one time when I was 13, mom broke a whole crate of eggs just to use as a face mask. All right, girls.
It's face pamper time. While she was busy applying the yucky stuff all over NY's face, I snuck off to the kitchen and scrambled the rest. Mom then showed up with Nancy in their ridiculous masks.
It's your turn, Nella. You fried them.
Well, a glowing stomach is better than a glowing face, Mom, but it makes you prettier. Makes her skin glow. Listen here, Noella. I don't know what your deal is reading stupid books all the time. Blasphemy. Books are life, Mom.
And I told you I want to be a novelist.
A novelist? Do you want to be broke forever? It's the most useless job ever.
That's right. All you need to do is invest in yourself to look pretty, and a rich man will surely sweep you off your feet. Why can't you be more like Nancy?
How about trying to educate yourself and make your own money instead of waiting for Mr. Moneybags? Writing stories was my jam. Creating worlds in my head and birthing characters gave me more joy than anything. And mom thought I was kidding until our 18th birthday. All right, make a wish. I'll grant it. I wish for a change of wardrobe. Done. And you, Noella? I wish to be a full-time writer, Mom. Just like Stephen King or JK R. Huh? Sorry, Noella, but that wish is never coming true. You're running my business, and that's final. How can you decide my life for me? At least NY's got her beauty. She can snag a rich man, but you're not as pretty. I'm just looking out for you. That hurt. Mom, I'm an adult. Seeing that I wasn't willing to budge, mom turned icy on me. She made me pay house bills and unable to bear it, I moved out. But being a writer wasn't all that rosy. No one wanted to publish my book. And at home, things became way too tough. I couldn't even afford a proper meal after already having lost my electricity in the house. I didn't even have any choice but to find a part-time job so I could support myself. I got hired as a cashier at Edgar's Market, a billion-dollar chain store across the country. And that was how I met Keith, a fellow cashier. Sweet guy, but hey, Newella. Maybe this weekend we can I don't know, go to the arcade. Thank you.
I mean, I I'm not a game person. Sorry.
Next time. Bye. I like hanging out with Keith, too. But with my life messier than a spaghetti explosion, dating was not on my menu. Missing my family intensified as Christmas approached.
Then one evening, out of the blue, mom called to spill the beans that Nancy was tying the knot. She wanted the family together for Christmas one last time before the big day. I was excited to see them again. Little did I know the life-changing drama that lay ahead for me. On my way to catch a cab for the ride to mom's house, I smacked into a guy. Get out of the way, little girl. I caught a glimpse of a snake tattoo on his arm. Totally freaked me out. Those guys just robbed one of Edgar's market stores. Are you okay? What? Which one?
The one on Broadway. It's like someone is targeting Edgar. True that. It wasn't the first time Edgar's stores had been robbed. I prayed the one I worked at never became a victim. In minutes, I was knocking on her front door. And that's when Nancy and her boyfriend arrived.
Before I could even say a greeting, mom swung the door open and zeroed in on Nancy as if I were invisible. Nancy, my baby. I missed you. Is this your car?
That's Ryan's car, Mom. No way. Hi, Ryan. Welcome to the family. Come on in.
You must be tired from driving. Mom hadn't even acknowledged my presence.
Once inside, I forced aside the small jab of jealousy to catch up with Nancy.
Nancy, you look good. Thanks. How about you? Are you Stephen King or something now?
>> I hope it's something bigger than the family's business. Well, I um I got a well-paying job at Panda Publishing Company. What? That's like one of the biggest publishing companies in the States. Why didn't you tell me when I called? It's a Christmas surprise. Oh, Noella, I'm so happy. I got this for you, Mom. Can we go eat? I'm hungry.
Okay, don't judge me for lying. Nancy was practically oppressing me with her achievements. While we were having lunch, Mom began asking Ryan questions like he was in a job interview. So, Nancy says you come from a really big family. Yeah, my dad is Edgar. You know, the CEO of Edgar's Market. At that bombshell, my mouth rejected the food in it. Noah, are you okay? Drink water quick. I'm I'm okay, Mom. Goodness gracious. Ryan was the CEO's son, the big boss of the company I worked at. He doesn't seem to recognize me, though. It makes sense cuz we've never crossed paths because my department was in the basement of the organizational hierarchy. But now, how could I go to work with him under the same roof without getting busted? I spent most of that night thinking of a solution. And before morning, I had a master plan in place. And the plan first started with Keith ringing our doorbell. Hello. Is Lady Noella in? I'm Keith, her chauffeur.
>> Chauffeur? Oh, I see you met my driver.
Just one of the many perks working at Panda Publishing. See youa. As soon as we left the house, I changed into my work clothes. Keith, you're a lifesaver.
What's with all this drama? What's wrong with telling them you're a cashier? You won't understand. I can't let Nancy have the upper hand all the time. She has everything going well in her life and I have nothing. You have me, Nella. I I Do you want to get a coffee quick? Sure.
That same day, we were busy at work when Ryan strolled in acting all bossy to everyone. Quick, Keith, cover me. What's going on? It's just the CEO's son. He's the one Nancy is dating. If he spots me, he'll blow my cover. Are you sure he's dating Nancy? Cuz he's with our manager right now. Ryan was twotiming my sister with our manager. I peered over the counter and that's when I saw Ryan cornering Katie the blondie. I approached the shelf where Ryan was pretending to rearrange while eavesdropping. Starlight in 8:00 p.m.
Don't be late, handsome. So, this guy was three- timing my sister, the manager, and Katie. I was so shocked I almost busted my cover, but I escaped before I could be seen. I rushed home to tell Nancy. Nancy, Ryan is a womanizer.
I saw him with a girl. You saw him?
Where? How? Are you stalking my fiance?
No. Um I shoot I couldn't tell her I worked for his family's company. I I heard people say bad stuff about him.
You know, really bad stuff. Listening to rumors, are we? You should know better than that. I bet her jealousy didn't let her think straight. Instead of being happy for me, you're busy snooping around desperate for dirt on my fianceé.
Really, Nella? If I knew you would ruin the spirit of Christmas for all of us, I wouldn't have invited you. Apologize now. No way. He's a snake. I swear I keep your mouth shut. If you continue with any of this nonsense, you'd better pack your things out of here. Now get out. It was like the floor was torn from beneath me. I felt rejected. And then Ryan came and showed me my work ID. How How did you get it? So you work at Edgar's store. What happened to Panda Publishing? None of your business. Get out.
>> You have some guts calling me out when you're such a faker yourself. Pull that stunt again and I'm telling everyone that you're just a lowly cashier.
Chuckling evily, Ryan walks off. Trapped and trying to ease the tension, I apologize to Ryan and Nancy, giving Ryan the benefit of the doubt. But that night, he threw my doubts back at my face while I was washing dishes. Look, I know why you're so frowny. I apologize.
Now get off of me. But you got the hats for me, huh? If it eases your vibe, I'm into you, too. You're so unique. Let's go out. Nancy won't know. I resisted the urge to smack him with a pot. It was official. He was a scumbag and Nancy needed to know. So, I decided to play along. Perhaps I could implicate him and show Nancy evidence of his evilness. Oh, Ryan, how did you know? Since I set my eyes on you, I've been dreaming about us. Then, let's go out tomorrow night.
I'll text you the address. Bingo. And that's how I found myself dressing up for a date after work the next day. Wa!
You look dashing. Where are you off to?
Keith's compliment had butterflies fluttering in my stomach. For the first time in a while, I felt beautiful.
Thanks. I'm going out. Out. Out. Like a date.
>> Yes, with Ryan. Let me explain. I told Keith everything I planned, but nothing I said made sense to him. This is risky.
What if Ryan wants to hurt you? I'll be fine and ready to take that jerk down. I got to the restaurant early, but I spotted Ryan with the guy I recognized as one of Edgar's store robbers. Same build, same snake tattoo. Intrigued and concerned, I discreetly approached.
Phone recorder ready. Tell the boys we hit the one on New City Street tonight.
That old man, Edgar dared to mess with me. Let's see how he likes his stores rated. Yes, boss. We will be ready. Ryan hired these gangsters to rob his own stores. This guy's a psychopath. Noella, baby, you look great. Unlike Keith, Ryan's compliment made my skin crawl and his hug made my stomach churn. You're robbing your father's store? Was that also your doings? Having the store on Broadway robbed the other day. It's my future store. Consider it taking an advanced paycheck. You won't tell. You know what's at stake. Too bad for you.
Right now, I think my sister's safety is more important than my pride. Ryan tried to grab me, but I bit his arm and ran away, leaving him cradling it in pain. I raced home to spill the beans about Ryan. Nancy, Ryan is, but I was greeted by a hot slap. That's for trying to steal my man. What? I wasn't. My friend saw you at a restaurant with him. I was just faking it. You know what else? I called Panda Publishing today, but they said there was no one by the name Noella working there. Turned out you're working at a store as a cashier. Yes. Yes, I did. And I'm really sorry. But look, Ryan is dangerous. He works with a gang that robs his father's stores. How can we trust you? If you can lie about your job, you could lie about anything else, too. Why do you keep disappointing me?
Their palpable disappointment felt like the world crashed on my shoulders. There was only one person left to turn to. I'm going to meet his dad to expose him. I have a recording of him admitting the crime. He will regret messing with me.
>> I'm not sure that's a good idea since he knows. You know, let's think of something less dangerous. I'll grab you something to calm down. Okay. Well, he went to fetch me the calming thing. I couldn't wait, so I sneaked out and headed straight to Edgar's headquarters.
Hello. I would like to meet the CEO of Edgar. It's urgent. Someone is planning to rob his store. I have evidence.
Evidence? Huh? Come with me. The security guard led me to an elevator.
Then we stopped in front of a room.
Boss, someone's here to see the CEO for the robbery of the stores. She has evidence. The door opened and instead of Ryan's dad, I was looking at Ryan. I tried to run, but they caught me and pushed me in. I was so scared. I should have listened to Keith. You little witch. Because of you, Nancy dumped me.
And now you're reporting to my dad. How dare you? She made the right choice.
You're the furthest thing from boyfriend material. The manic look in Ryan's eyes told me I was a goner. But suddenly, Keith burst in like a superhero with two policemen and saved the day. Freeze. The police. Are you okay? I nodded and hugged Keith in relief. His broad shoulders calmed me down, and I knew I was safe. You might as well swap your ears for something else. Sorry. You never listen. Always so impatient. I know, yada yada yada. Why are you so stubborn? I shut him up with a kiss, and it felt so right. Turned out Ryan's dad had kicked him out before because of his predigial habits. But instead of turning over a new leaf, Ryan formed a gang targeting his dad's stores. Now Edgar planned to give him a taste of jail to cool off. News of my heroic escapade spread like wildfire, reaching my family before I could even get home. The moment I stepped into the house, mom and Nancy hugged me like I'd been away for a year.
I am so sorry for misjudging you all this time. You were just looking out for me. But I was so shocked and heartbroken. I got mad at you when actually Ryan was the jerk all along. I love you, sis. And I'm so sorry for lying. I just wanted mom to be proud of me, too. But I'm proud of you, Nella. I just after the hardship I suffered losing your dad, money became the paramount thing in my life. I thought it was all there is to happiness. So, I pushed you guys to get it. But now I realize I was wrong. Imagine if Nancy never married Ryan. How unhappy she'd have been. Whether you're a cashier or a Stephen King, I don't care. I just want you girls to be happy. Merry Christmas, my love. It was the best moment of my life. Finally, we could understand each other. Our reconciliation had to be a good luck charm because on Christmas Eve, I got a call from a movie producer who wanted to adapt my novel to a movie.
The contract was going to pay millions.
Finally, I was making my big break as an author. We celebrated that special Christmas with a big feast. And boy was my mom and Nancy surprised when Keith showed up. Um, what's your chauffeur doing here? Chauffeur? No. Everyone meet Keith, my boyfriend, who by the way was just promoted to the overall manager of Edgar's market. Yep. That had been decided by Edgar, the CEO. Welcome to the family, Keith.
It was a Saturday at my environmental club. I saw my friends chatting, so I hurried over to join them. What about Walmart? Walmart? You guys hang out there? Can I come, too? I love looking at wall stuff. Huh? Why was everyone go at me like an alien? Oh, Walmart. Duh. I was just fooling around. Anyway, you guys go have fun. There. You're probably thinking, "Has this girl been living under a rock? How can she not know what Walmart is?" Well, now I do. Hi, I'm Jasmine, the only child of the biggest hotel year in New York. Growing up rich, I was used to lavish parties and being around wealthy families. That's how I met my girls, Katie and Ashley, daughters of my parents' business partners. I may have lived a privileged lifestyle, but I was actually happiest when I got to work in my art studio. I had an anonymous Tumblr account where I shared some of my finest oil paintings.
There, I'd been talking to this one fan for a while. Daniel, he's such a hottie and he loves art, too. But best of all, I just found out we're going to the same high school. Yay. So, when the school year started, I asked to meet Daniel in person. Oh, that must be him. I was about to greet him when suddenly a girl appeared. Wow, there sure are a lot of rich girls around here. I swear I saw a few of them augling you. Please, you know how I despise those spoiled princesses the most. I just can't stand being close to them. Oh no, Daniel hates rich girls. I can't let him see me today. Not like this. So, I texted him saying something had come up. Over the next few days, I found out that Daniel was Mr. cool with all the straight A's.
Currently the president of the environmental club and he's single. So that's Haley, just a close friend of his. I was determined to conquer Daniel's heart. I just needed to figure out a way to get around his whole anti-walth thing. Uhhuh. I'd pretend to be some normal girl and join Daniel's environmental club. In the meantime, I'd make him fall for me before telling him the truth about my Tumblr account. Of course, I couldn't let Katie and Ashley know about this either.
And here I am at the environmental club.
I immediately approached Daniel with candies, but you know how terrible rappers are for the planet. Besides, Dan doesn't like sweets. At lunchtime, out of habit, I ordered fast food. But as I went to fetch it, I saw everyone gossiping amongst themselves about the terrible person who dared to order food in singleuse plastic. Oh, silly me. I totally forgot I was in an environmental club. I quickly lied that I'd already eaten despite my stomach giving out some monster growls. And today's incident was yet another embarrassing moment I created for myself at the club. Oh, Walmart. Duh. I was just fooling around.
Anyway, you guys go have fun there.
Learning to be a normal girly is hard, but dealing with my rich friends was even harder. I'd been so busy at the club, I totally forgot I still had the recycling bag on me, not mine. Another time, I nearly got caught while trying to raise funds with other club mates. I ended up hiding in the restroom for an hour straight, but all the suffering was worth it as I got to hang around with Daniel. Daniel, I um I got this for you.
Oh, this is for me. You're a great painter, aren't you? Thanks. By the way, meet Andy. He's in the Eco Bus Stop poster design group, and you're going to work with him from now on. Not like a rich kid like him needs the bus. Andy, what are you doing here? I could say the same about you. My dad just married Daniel's mom, so I'm here to support my new stepbrother. Ooh. So Andy, whom I met through fancy parties with our parents in the past, was in Daniel's inner circle. This was wonderful news.
So I confided in him all about my plan to get with Daniel. So any chance he could help a girl out? Sure. I've always wanted Daniel to have a girlfriend anyway. He seriously needs to chill out a bit. From then on, Andy started teaching me about the ordinary life. One time, he insisted on taking me to the amusement park for the first time. Why do people take the bus anyway? Why don't they just drive a car? Not everyone can afford a car, Jazz. So, when will the bus come to pick me up? The bus doesn't come to you. You have to go to the bus stop. Huh? A bus stop? What is it? It's a corner with a bench. You'll see. The bus was stuffy, and there was a funny smell coming from somewhere behind me.
Where's my champagne and hot towels?
Jazz, this is a bus, not a plane. You don't get those things here. Later, the bus suddenly jolted and I flew forward, but Andy caught me in his arms. I peered up at him and my heart almost skipped a beat. He looked so fine from this angle.
Finally, we made it to the amusement park and it turns out it was so much fun. I went on these twirling teacups until I felt dizzy and threw some balls at a tower of cans. On the way home, Andy insisted on joining this massive line to try some tacos. I'd never waited this long for food before, but oh boy, they were tastier than a Michelin star food. Best of all, Andy also helped me get close to Daniel. Only I got so nervous. The trees are leafy, aren't they? I mean, all trees are leafy. Apart from trees in the winter, they're not very leafy. Hm.
You're just the right combination of cute and awkward.
Holy moly, I thought I was cute. I was ready for my sweet first kiss when Haley budded in and started boring Daniel with talk of some project. Later that day, Haley pulled me into the corner. Who are you and why join this club? I'm I'm just an environmental enthusiast and a nature lover. H this girl is everywhere third wheeling with me and Daniel. But it's okay as Andy had invited me to his house to work on a poster for the club. And I mean, I could conveniently bump into Daniel there, too. Oh, some of the paintings here were amazing. I didn't realize Andy was an art fan. We discussed some of our favorite artists, and then I showed him my finest paintings on my Tumblr account. Wow. I can tell you truly have a knack for transitional blending. Actually, I dreamed of becoming an artist, but then mom left me and dad to travel the world and fill her own painting dreams. I didn't want to make dad any sadder than he already was. So, I stopped painting.
I told him to pursue his passion no matter what and invited him to join me in my art studio whenever he wanted.
Suddenly, it was so hot in here. I needed a glass of water before I melted.
I walked into the kitchen to find Daniel daydreaming out of the window. Hey, is everything all right? Eco bus stop has hit a dead end due to the lack of funding. I knew I could just give him some of my allowance, but that would mean revealing that I was a rich girl.
So, I decided to cheer him up by pulling funny faces and said it would all be okay. But then, you don't understand. I have to make this project successful no matter what. Only then I can get a scholarship into my dream university.
His attitude stunned me. This Daniel was completely different from the fan I talked to. But maybe he was only acting up because Eco Bus stop means a lot to him. So the next day, I decided to give Daniel his most wanted gift. An envelope with my monthly allowance. Just as I was about to reach Daniel, Haley stopped me.
I know your secret already, rich girl.
What? No. You must be dreaming stuff up.
Oh, really? So you don't know these people. Aren't they the troublemakers from the rich kid click? Yeah, they are.
Why would I be friends with those spoiled brats? Spoiled brats? Jazz? How could you say that? Your whole Save the Trees act didn't work on me. You were acting fake from the start. So, I followed you and saw you with your rich friends at the luxury outlet. That's correct. Jasmine Father owns more hotels than your dumb club members houses combined. I don't know what she's doing here. Next thing I knew, Daniel walked off without saying a word, so I ran after him. I knew it so well that rich people like you ain't no good. You could have funded the project or at least helped me ask your father for a loan, but you did nothing. You disgust me. I only did it because I like you. Right then, Katie and Ashley caught me up. I'm sorry for what I said earlier, girls. It was my fault. I shouldn't have said such nasty things about you guys. I didn't think a noble lady like you would ever lower yourself for a pity boy like him.
If you want back in the click, then cut ties with your low rent friends. Maybe my club friends were right. We've been so shallow and materialistic. We should change, not them. You How dare you, JASMINE. JASMINE. SO Daniel didn't want to see my face while Katie kicked me out of the group. For one week straight, I shut myself in my room. It was awful, but it did give me time to think more clearly and come to realize I should stop chasing Daniel. Instead, I want to be more active at the environmental club as I truly love contributing to the greater good. So the next morning, I went to the beach clean up with the club. Everyone looked so shocked to see me, especially Andy. You're back. I'm so glad you came. How have you been? Then we chatted happily while cleaning up the trash with everyone. Only Daniel and Haley were visibly annoyed, but I just couldn't care less. From then on, I was busy helping prepare for the Shark Tank show to raise capital for Eco Bus Stop.
One day, Daniel approached me and apologized for overreacting that day. He went on to explain that his mom's been labeled a gold digger ever since she married Andy's dad. He wanted to show that unlike Andy, who had been born into privilege, he didn't need money and that he could get a scholarship into his dream college through Eco Bus Stop.
Hearing this, I softened and forgave him. After that, we became friends again. And I think he was flirting with me. Hey, Jazz, you look nice today.
You've got such beautiful eyes. But for some reason, every time I was with him, all I thought about was Andy. Time passed by. Then came the Shark Tank qualifying round. The whole club nervously watched Daniel present the project. And guess what? Our project was selected for the final round. Right after that, Daniel followed me outside.
Jasmine, will you be my girlfriend? I was so confused that I mindlessly nodded. But somehow I didn't feel happy at all. On my first date with Daniel, I found my mind wandering back to Andy.
Worse still, I felt like he was avoiding me. A few days later, I threw my 16th birthday. All my friends from the environmental club were there, except for Andy. Later, Daniel went on stage.
Hey everyone, I prepared this special song for my girlfriend Jasmine. You say you're sorry, but it's too late now, so save it. Get gone. Shut up. Cuz if you think I care about you now, girl, I don't give a fudge. Next thing I knew, everyone was gasping and giving me pitiful looks. So this is for you, Jasmine. You useless, rich, spoiled little brat. Happy birthday. You're dumped. I froze, but tried to pull myself together. Yes, I'm rich, but never useless and spoiled. People are more than just their social class, you know. Suddenly, I saw a fist flying through the air. It was Andy punching Daniel. You jerk. You pay for this. Then he leads me away. Andy sat me down on a bench and I just couldn't stop my tears.
Stop crying already. He doesn't deserve you. He never did. But I couldn't deal with this right now. So I turned and ran off without uttering a word. After crying myself to sleep that night, I knew the next day I had to be tough. So I returned to the club to get my stuff.
Hey, I'm I'm sorry about what happened last night. I never thought he could do such terrible things to you. And I'm sorry for being harsh on you this whole time. I know now that was wrong of me.
It's okay. I guess it was just my fault from the start. I ignored the fact that we were incompatible just because he was my fan. Daniel is your fan? Yeah, from my Mint Arts account on Tumblr. Oh god, that's you. I'm the fan, not Daniel. Oh, that makes sense. I guess I misunderstood everything all along. But why is there a photo and info of Daniel?
Haley admitted to having a crush on Daniel, but now that I see his true colors, he's just not worth it anymore.
You know, I'm going to leave this club, too. It's Daniel who needs to leave.
Just wait and see. Despite still being in a mood, I showed up to Shark Tank's final round to see the project I contributed to. And yes, our EcoB project finally got the funding approval. When suddenly, I'll invest in the project, but I don't want Daniel as my partner. I want it to be Haley as she's the real mastermind behind this.
All the club members shouted in union to support Haley and boo at Daniel. What about our deal? You said your father would invest in my project if I dumped Jasmine publicly. I don't know either.
Maybe it's because you really suck.
Moments later, Katie's father got between them. Fortunately, Andy filled me in on Haley's contribution to the project. Otherwise, I would have made a terrible mistake by finding an opportunist instead. As for you, Katie, how could you do that to a friend? You will receive your punishment at home.
After the show ended, I went for a walk with Andy. So, this was your plan all along, huh? Daniel went too far this time. I need to teach him a lesson. And Jazz, I've liked you since we first started hanging out, but I stupidly agreed to help you get with Daniel. I I This is so sudden. I don't know, Andy. I promise to take care of you from now on.
Please give me a chance. Andy, actually, I like you, too, but my stupid self kept telling me to pursue Daniel. And all this time, I've been thinking about you a lot, but I just need some time. That's all I need to know.
>> Jod and I dragged our aching feet on the hallway after the whole day searching every corner of this mall. Oh, my legs are toast. I don't think I can walk further than this. Who makes an ad without specifying an official store? I can't believe we've walked to 10 stores and we can't find her. Let's try this last store. If she isn't here, then we get an Uber and go home. We walked into the store holding the last string of hope. And there she was sitting majestic on the shelf. We ran up to the shelf and Jodie being Jodie started to cry. She's so beautiful. We finally found her. The baby Stella doll collection. We quickly brought Stella to the cashier, then walked out of the store like world champions holding a trophy, knowing everyone was staring at us like we were crazy, as if we care. Hi, I'm Leah, and here's my bestie, Jod. I've known her all my life. We've grown up together in the same neighborhood. As long as Jod and I are together, nothing matters whatever shenanigans we were up to.
Today, we just got the perfect doll to complete our doll collection. That was all that mattered. It's not easy to find someone sharing our weird hobbies, right? Jodie is the queen bay of everything. And she has always pushed me to be a better version of myself. Like when she became the swim team captain and always encouraged me to join the team and it turned out that I actually loved swimming. The next day, we came to the pool to see D, our team member, doing a perfect backstroke. Good job, D.
Then he gathered us and announced the upcoming synchronized swimming competition. And naturally, Jod secured one position and the other was also up to her. Sir, that's easy. It's Lee. I know you two are joined at the hip, but it needs more than that. With all due respect, sir, believe me, Lee is perfect for this position. It's a synchronized duet. Who else can you trust to be in sync with me other than my best friend?
I was happy that Jod had so much confidence in me, but also anxious. I've never been in any nationals before, but it's a great opportunity, and I never took it for granted. I'm going to try my best to prove my worth. So, instead of joining Jod's family on a skiing trip, I stayed behind to practice in the town swimming pool in the summer. One day while resting, I suddenly felt water splash on me. Then I saw the most beautiful boy on earth. He was coming out of the pool and it felt like the sun was radiating on his skin. I watched him climb up the lifeguard ladder and put on a name tag that read Evan. Okay, it seemed like I got my future husband's name. And now it's time to show what his wife was capable of. Then I showed off my best moves, but he barely looked at me, so I knew just what I needed to do.
Help! Help! I'm drowning. Right at that moment, Evan dashed into the pool and rescued me like a brave knight. You saved me. Wow, you're so strong and you are so pretty. And then he winked at me.
I guess I drowned again in those eyes.
From that day, I started going to the pool every day. Evan always waved at me, but that was all. He never made a move to come near me again. I couldn't fake drowning every day at the pool, so I settled for the friendly waves. Finally, Jod was back from the holiday. So, tell me everything about the mystery lifeguard. Uh, he was so gorgeous, but I'm not sure about him. He hasn't asked for my number yet. You should have walked up that ladder and said, "Hey, mister, do you like me or not?" Because time is running out. That's definitely what you would do. Exactly. Like yesterday, I was at the mall with my mom and I saw a boy, Mark, at the ice cream stand. He was drop deadad gorgeous. I walked straight up to him, took his phone, put my number in it, and told him to call me. And he did that night. Whoa.
Would that work with Evan? Only one way to find out. The next day, I mustered my courage and marched straight up to Evan.
Hi. Um, Lee, right? Yes. How are you doing? Good. Hey, let's go up the lifeguard's chair. There's shade there.
He offered his hand to help me go up there. Actually, I wanted to talk to you sooner, but it's kind of super busy here the past few days, you know. Oh, that's it.
I sat next to Evan as he paid close attention to everything happening in the pool. We talked, we laughed, and I even felt his fingers brush over mine.
Talking with him was so fun that I forgot the mission today. Ask his number. It's all right. We had loads of time for this. But all that went away when I got to the pool the next day. And he wasn't there for the days after.
There was still no sign of him. He came and went just like a fever dream, leaving me aching in a quick fever of first love.
Well, his loss. He had all summer to ask you out and he didn't. Good riddance.
Yeah, but I should have just asked him out like you suggested. Come on, forget about him now. Let's focus on an important issue. My birthday. As always, it's going to be the biggest event before school resumes. And you know what? Mark's going to be my escort. Oo, Dreamy Mark is coming. Can't wait to meet him.
Just like Jodie described, her parents spared no expense. Her party was packed with all friends at school and some of her social circles that I've never seen before. But in the middle of them was, for a second, it felt like I was dreaming. Like I had spent the entire summer dreaming of this face. Evan was here in flesh and blood. I was about to confront him. Then you came. Lee, meet Mark. Mark, it's Lee, my bestie. What?
My head was spinning. So Evan was also the Mark Eye Jod had been talking about the whole summer. How could it be? When Jodie spared herself to other guests, I dragged him to the corner. Evan, what are you doing here after disappearing all this time? And Mark? What's with the name? Um, actually, my name is Mark. The pool was too cheap to make a new name tag for me, so they made me wear an old one for a former employer. And I just took the lifeguard job in the summer.
Things just got a little hectic, so I forgot to tell you. I never planned to hurt a beautiful girl like you. What?
No, you don't get to flirt with me anymore.
Bestie's like the same guy. How could it be more typical of dramas? No. Sisters first. Jod was with him, so I'd better stay away. That's right. There's no other way. With the decision having been made, I tried to hold my aching heart to sleep until the next day at school. I was grabbing things from my locker when someone startled me. Hey, Lee. It's great to see you again, Evan. Mark, why are you here? I go here now. Now I could swim in your beautiful eyes every day.
See you around, gorgeous. That's not good. Lee, what's going on? Why was Mark looking at you like that? Oh, screw. She saw that? That's it. It's better that she heard it from me and not from someone else. I took her to a quiet spot and explained everything to her. The look on her face was not reassuring. So, are you saying that Mark is Evan, the lifeguard? Then, let's go to the pool to check. I already told you he doesn't work there anymore. We can ask Mark directly instead. Excuse me. Asking him?
Sorry, I'm not like you to ask this kind of question. What does that mean? I just see you're making excuses to steal my boyfriend. Stop being Dulu. What?
Talking about Dulu? Mark is not your boyfriend yet. Let's see who can win him.
Challenge accepted, bestie.
I couldn't believe in my ears. Jody had been thinking of me like that all this time.
I came to school the next day to see Jod and her other friends marching in the hall. Mark, let this smile always on your face. Cuz when you smile, the whole world stops and stares for a while.
H classic Jodie, but flashy things don't shine. Then I approach them and fake being fainted to fall into Mark's embrace, and his gallant caught me before knowing what happened. A, you saved me again. How can I pay you back, my love?
I could see the fire burning in Jod's eyes. At lunch, I went to the canteen with Mark. I could feel the distance of the time we're away, but it's nice to talk to Mark/e Evan again, but Jodie out of nowhere sat down beside him. Hi, Mark. And Lee, watch out your food, Mark. Do you know one time she was so hungry that she stole her date's food while he was in the restroom?
So, do you know Judy used to devour the whole turkey on Thanksgiving? She just peed into the pool last week. You know that.
Hey, it's just an accident. And you you bought your mom's Gucci bag and blamed it on your brother. Not as interesting as you still needing your mom to sing a lullaby every night.
Jeez, I wish American presidential elections could be as hot as girl fights. Too frustrated. I blurted out every secret we kept together since we were kids until teachers stopped us. We had to clean every single corner of the pool as punishment. Let me help you, Jodie. Thank you, bestie.
>> Yeah, bestie. my butt. And just like that, the third world war continued. The whole school started whistling about the famous friend duo of the school turning to bark at each other. Huh? Go ask your queen bee first. One day, Mark came to find me, and we were talking for a while. I'm sorry. I think I need to be held accountable for what is happening between you and Jod. No, it's not your fault. Just some girl stuff, you know.
Then, from nowhere, Jod stormed in. It's you. You tore up my swimming presentation draft to the coach, right?
What gibberish are you talking about?
The draft was just right there on this table, but when you came, it disappeared. We found this near your locker. What was it? It's a piece of paper from Jod's draft. I'd never seen it before, let alone tore it. I saw with my own eyes. Don't you dare try to deny it. But I'm with Mark all this time. I can't do this. I just came, so I'm not sure.
You You Enough with your lies. You'll no longer be accepted in our team. Get out.
What? You can't. Don't forget I'm your partner in the upcoming competition. Of course I can. I'm the team captain and D will be my partner. Everything was happening so fast. My head was spinning.
What's going on? I've never done such things. But Mark, why didn't Mark defend me when he knew I was innocent? Was everything worth fighting for that guy?
Now I felt like I lost everything. My best friend, my swimming spot, when it's already bad. Mom knocked my room with the most terrible news. Hey, what's going on with you and Jodie? Nothing.
Nothing. So why is she burning your dolls? What? I looked through the window to see her burning our collection. I immediately ran to her house. Jody, no, please. She didn't. She let it all burn.
That was it. Our friendship was burnt to ashes like our dolls. A few days later, Jod and Mark became official.
Thanksgiving came, but I felt lonier than ever. Not because Mark chose Jod, but our dying friendship. So, I came to the swimming pool in town. While letting myself float on the water, I heard a very familiar voice. Lee, is that you?
Oh my god. I hoped I would bump into you here. Don't even speak to me, you devil.
Did I do something wrong to you? I know I you ask. You forgot what you've done to me a few days ago, but but I was in Switzerland until yesterday. Turns out he went to a military school in Switzerland and only returned home on holidays, and Mark was actually Evan's twin, so I'd been fooled all this time.
The news hit me with the utmost shock.
All the suppressed emotions were blurted out with the tears. Evan pulled me in his embrace and listened to every word.
I'm sorry. My brother must have been messing with you. I'll handle this. I promise. Few days later, Evan asked me to go to the cafe near school to talk about the truth he learned. We stepped inside to see Jod sitting here with her new boyfriend and new best friend. I was about to leave, but Evan pulled me back.
Trust me, will you? Then he held my hands and walked me towards them. Upon seeing Evan, Jod couldn't hide her shock. Huh? You look like my boyfriend.
>> Yes, I'm his twin brother, right, D?
You know her, too? She is our sister.
Well, half sister. We have different last names. Then Evan told everything.
But you know what was new? And here is your presentation, Jod. It's my sister who hid it. Not Lee. I gave you the chance to come clean, but you refused it. I'm disappointed, D. But why blaming me? Because it's always been you. Jod will always choose you just because you're her best friend. How fair is it?
I'm also a good swimmer, you know. So, at Jod's birthday party, she overheard Mark talking with me. That's when an idea came to her. She asked Mark to help her cause a rift between me and Jod so that she would replace me to become Jod's partner in the swimming competition. So, you ruined our friendship for this? Then Jod ran out of the cafeteria. It felt good that I'd been vindicated, but it hurt that breaking our friendship was so easy. The next few days were not getting any better. Jod was calling non-stop to apologize, but I wasn't ready to listen to her. One day, I heard Jod and Mark talking. I apologized for everything. My sister wanted a spot on the team, so I just want to help. But I thought by doing that that I could know what your feelings are if there's someone else like me. Because because from the beginning, I already fall for you. I don't know what is real or not real anymore, Mark. But I can't forgive you.
At least now. I'm sorry, but whatever happened between us is over. Things were messed up for Jod as well. The next day, I answered the door to see Evan, Mark, and D there. We apologize for what happened. We didn't think clear before doing that. I let jealousy take over me.
I'm sorry for things going bad between you and Jod. It's no use being mad this time. At least everything was settled in some ways. I am really sorry about my messy family. Please, I heard enough sorry these days. So, how about that? I should have done this long ago. Do you want to get ice cream together sometime?
I thought you'd never ask. And Lee, I have decided to leave the team. I can't be there after all of this. But how about Jodie? I ran to the school gym, knowing the chaos that was going already. Look at this mess you girls have made. How are you supposed to join the competition without a partner? I'm sorry. I when the coach left, she jumped into the water and let it take over her.
So, I joined her. Hey, I can be your partner. Lee, no. I don't deserve it. I was stupid. I burnt our dolls and I threw away our friendship. Yeah, you were pretty stupid and you hurt me. But it's okay. I'm here because you need me.
And regardless of anything, I'm always going to be there when you need me. I'm so sorry. It's okay. We both learned the lessons of being calm before saying anything regretful. And now, let's win this thing. Yes. With you, bestie, I can always win.
Hey, Diana here. Last time you saw me, I had to receive some life-changing news.
I'd lived in a beautiful castle my entire life, but only as a servant to my best friend, Princess Anne, until I was revealed a huge secret. I was actually the daughter of the late Queen Mary.
Only, she wasn't dead. She was being held prisoner by her sister, the current Queen Miranda. Also, that made me a real princess. I was still skeptical about it. So, I went on a mission to find answers and free Mary. I found a friend in Harry, a delivery driver for the castle, who showed me the poor conditions most people in the kingdom were living in. But the thing is, I didn't spill a word to anyone about my identity until I received my DNA results, confirming a connection with Queen Mary. Why? All this time, you've been keeping it from us, your citizens.
I I had my reason, okay? And I only found out about this not long ago, but yes, Queen Mary is indeed still alive.
Then I began to tell Harry and his father the whole story. I know it sounds crazy, but I believe you. DNA doesn't lie. I'm sorry for doubting you, but the important thing is you're the true heir to the throne. You're going to be the key to An Miranda's tyranny. Slow down, son. We'll need a perfect plan, or else it would cost us our lives. And we can't do it without you, Diana. I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. The fate of the whole country was now resting on my shoulders, and I wasn't sure I was ready. I needed a little time to clear my head. So, I took a walk through the town street, only to see this heartbreaking scene. Please, Diana, help us. Our supply is running out, and we'll soon owe grand tributes to the palace.
Next month is Princess Anne's coronation. I didn't know what to say to them. I couldn't promise I would succeed. Gosh, I just needed one moment away from all this. I snuck away to a hill and shortly after Harry found me.
You're okay. I'm sorry if I put a lot of pressure on you. Just know that you don't owe us anything and it's up to you whether you want to do this or not. I really appreciate that, but yeah, I knew I had to do this. Just not sure how.
Don't worry. Okay, we'll figure this out together. For a minute there, I lost track of everything as I gazed into his sparkling eyes. But this is not the time, Diana. I shook my head and when I opened my eyes again, the lights from the aristocratic area lit up. That's when it hit me. Hey, let's ask the noble district for help. They have more resources than they could ever need.
We've tried that, but every single time they'd send hunting dogs to chase us away. So, they're just as corrupted as Miranda. Then we'll have to take it from them instead. Let's assemble the people.
The next morning, everyone gathered at the square. I had rehearsed my speech all night, and I was ready. Citizens of our kingdom, listen to me carefully.
Rise up and reclaim what belongs to you from the nobles in the dictator Miranda.
We can't keep our heads down and put up with this anymore. We need to unite and fight them for our resources. But we're not fighters. They take us down immediately. That won't happen. We outnumbered them by a wide gap. We can beat them if we're willing to. So, what do you say? No one replied. They all looked concerned and doubted my words.
Right then, some nobles walking their ferocious hunting dogs passed by.
>> Hey, what the heck do you think you're up to? Dissolve immediately. Then they released their barking dogs on the crowd. People started screaming in fear.
I tried my best to calm them and bring the truth to light. Can't you see these people in the queen live in luxury because they robbed us of our food, our wealth, our dignity? Do you know what the beef and pork you work so hard to raise are used for? To feed these dogs.
Meanwhile, all you have to get by on is dry, moldy bread, and you just going to accept that? Do you want to spend your whole life bowing down to these cold-blooded people? I held my breath as they murmured to each other. Then they stood up taller, stronger, together. Get out of our town. You have no power over us anymore. They shouted at the nobles, forced them and their dogs to retreat.
The people cheered as they left the city square. Harry and I looked at each other, knowing we needed to act now. So, we led the people to the noble's food storage to reclaim everything that rightfully belonged to them. The news of her coup quickly reached Queen Miranda, who issued a nationwide warrant for my arrest. I had to watch my back everywhere I went. But luckily, the citizens were looking out for me, too.
Like when the soldiers were on to me, Aaron, the flower shop owner, told me to hide in his flower cart. When they approached, he replied, "No one is here except me, you fools. Get out of my way." then continued to push his card away, leaving the soldiers dumbfounded.
Another time, I was on the run again from the nobles when the trolley came near. The driver told me to hop on, then handed me a uniform and a fake mustache, and voila, we confused the heck out of those nobles.
But there were many more encounters like that with Miranda's minion. It' be a matter of time before they caught me, so we had to overthrow Miranda before that happened. At the same time, we also needed to get a stable food resource for the people. I knew the castle's layout like the back of my hand. So, we hatched a plan to sneak in, and we had to take action before the coronation ceremony when Anne is supposed to ascend the throne. If not, Anne would just become Miranda's puppet, and the country would endure her tyranny for many more decades. This was our only chance because the palace of security would be at its most vulnerable since everyone would be gathered at the chapel preparing for the coronation. It is time to end this once and for all. The night before the coronation, we snuck into the castle as planned. I led a group of people disguised as servants down to the dungeon to rescue Queen Mary. Meanwhile, Harry led the rest of the storage warehouse to seize the largest food storage in the palace to make the enemy surrender entirely. But when we arrived at the dungeon, Miranda was already there. Diana, what are you doing here?
Run now. Shut up, sister. I was waiting for my niece. How did you know I'm here?
Do you genuinely believe you could pull off this foolish treason plan without my notice? Guess you really are nothing more than a dumb maid. Guards, bring them out. I turned around and saw the guards dragging Harry and his team to the cellar. My guards have already captured your other crew in the warehouse. It's time to end your ridiculous rebellion. You unless you'd like them to be banished from the kingdom instead. Do whatever you want with me, but leave these people. Miranda smirked, hearing my words, and ordered the guards to throw me along with the others in the cell. Please, Miranda. She doesn't deserve to rot in here. You still can't shake off that rambling habit after all these years. Sister, >> you'll never get away with this. You've oppressed your own people to their limits. Someday soon, they're going to rise up and overthrow you. Big words for such a little brat. Let me guess. Even you couldn't tell that your own partner is my right-hand man, aren't you? What?
Harold the count? You're lying. It can't be. Harry, why are you standing there?
Say something. But he only turned away in shame. So this is real? Had he been pretending to be on the people's side all along? What about his family?
>> I asked him to turn you over for my guarantee of his family safety and a lifetime supply of food. And he agreed.
He had no obligation to you now. He's already betrothed to Princess Anne.
Betrothed.
You'll have the rest of your life in the dungeon to think it over, brat. Harold, let's go. I was dumbfounded when I suddenly heard a familiar voice echoing through the dungeon. Diana, where are you? Ann, is that you? I'm straight ahead. There you are. I was so worried when you suddenly disappeared. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you everything. It's okay. I just heard the whole thing since I followed the guards who dragged Harold down here. But don't you worry. I can plead to my mother to release you under the condition that you and your mom leave the country and never return. Why?
You don't really think you can stand against my mom, do you? There's no end to this, Diana. I know, but with your help, we might be able to turn things around. We have to fight for what we believe in. Anne, you still want a simple life and open a bakery, right?
This is your chance. But, but she's my mother. How could I turn against her?
Please, Diana, just listen to me. No, an I can't do that to all the people who are suffering out there. We'd rather stand here forever than be free and act like Miranda didn't commit all her crimes. I guess from now on we go our separate ways. Goodbye, Anne. Anne burst out crying and left. I slumped at the corner of the dead, silent cell. What was I thinking? That I could make a change. And now I had failed everyone.
Queen Mary, Stella, Harold, Anne, and everyone else. I don't think I could do this anymore.
Don't cry now, dear. This isn't the end.
I I don't even know anymore. There's no way out. Harry must have known I could never succeed. So he switched sides, right? So did Anne. No. They might have had their reasons, but they did what they did. And it's not your fault. I know it's hard, but you need to get it together. This is not the time to show weakness. As much as I didn't think I could, I was determined to try. Early the next morning, another group led by Harold's father unexpectedly showed up for mine and Queen Mary's rescue. How did you know we were here?
>> Harry contacted me last night and asked for help. So, here we are. You see, not only me, but the people also believe in you. I suddenly understood why Harold had to pretend to be on Queen Miranda's side yesterday. He had a backup plan all along. Now, we needed to go stop the coronation ceremony ASAP before it was too late. When we arrived, Anne was already walking up to receive the crown.
I dashed through the spectators to get to the front of the crowd. Stop. I object to Princess Anne's coronation because I, Diana, daughter of Queen Mary, am the legitimate heir to the throne, and I have the DNA test as proof. The crowd grew loud as they reacted to this news. Even the soldiers stopped in their tracks. Guards, seize her. Before they could reach me, Harold and a group of civilians created a human shield around me, ready to protest.
Order, order. That evidence is fabricated, and there's no proof of its validity. Don't be fooled by her. At that moment, Queen Mary finally made her entrance, and the crowd went dead silent. Citizens of our kingdom. I'm your Queen Mary, and I'm very much alive. But I've been held captive for so many years by none other than my sister, Miranda. It was she who took advantage of my weakness after Diana was born to seize control of the kingdom. Now, she and all of you know the truth. And you know that Miranda is not your stop all this ridiculousness. I am still the queen of this kingdom regardless of how.
This is treason. Seize them all now. But no one did as she said. The soldiers, officials, and the entire crowd turned to face Queen Mary and bowed before their true queen for the first time in 18 years. Miranda angrily charged towards us, but she took a surprise detour to prison where she'll await trial. Then an official returned the crown to Queen Mary, but she didn't put it on. Instead, the ceremony was started again, and I was crowned as the new queen of the kingdom. Are you sure? I still have so much to learn. Why don't you see it for yourself? All hail, Queen Diana. Thanks to you, we are saved from the famine and a dictator. You gave us a better life. You are the queen we've been praying for. I could burst out crying hearing their chanting. You see, being a queen is not about immense wealth or influence. It is truly about what you have to offer to the world and who you are inside. And you, my dear, are ready for this. Thank you. I'll try my best to live up to your legacy, Mom.
I gave her the biggest hug as the crowd cheered on. And so, I officially became the queen. My first order of duty was to return what rightfully belonged to the people. I promised myself that from now on, no one will suffer under my rule. As the people gathered their things, Harold came wanting to talk, and we left for somewhere private. Diana, I want to be honest with you. I originally became a royal official because I wanted to change Miranda's mind and help the people, but no one took me seriously.
They said I should know my place and be grateful that a commoner like me landed a place among the nobility. They even forced me to be the one who delivered the tributes from the people to the castle. It made me sick. But the moment I met you, I felt joy and happiness, the kind that I hadn't felt for a while now.
I didn't want to accept the truth that I was betrothed to Anne. I just wanted to be with you. I didn't know you feel that way. Mom told me you like me and want to be with me and she'll let us be after I was sent the throne. An I'm sorry to say this, Princess Anne, but your mother has been deceiving you. I was only engaged to you by her force, not my own will. I deeply regret disappointing your feelings. I'd never expected my first love would end like this. But I'm glad for you, Diana. You two have my blessing. Oh, Ann, I never meant to hurt you. No, this will be good for me. I can finally leave the castle and have a normal life. Become a baker like I always wanted. Thanks to you, Queen Diana. As sad as it made me to lose her, we'd grown up together after all, I knew it was best to respect her decision and let her go. It was what we both needed.
Now that everything else is sorted out, I can breathe a sigh of relief. Oh, wait, not yet. Harry or Harold? Which one is it? Whichever one you like. Let me make this clear. I'm still mad at you for lying. So, you'll face punishments, mister.
>> Well, well, look who's flexing their power on day one of the rain. What? You dare challenge the queen?
>> No. This humble servant of yours is ready to obey the almighty queen's orders for the rest of my life.
>> Then I order you to kiss me now. At your service, your majesty. Then he pulled me closer and swept me off my feet with the most passionate kiss ever. Guess my story does end like a fairy tale after all, huh?
