The playground is modest and the families here are not wealthy by any measure, but look at the scene. Kids swinging, running, laughing, parents pushing the strollers, grandparents, a lot of grandparents sitting on the benches, chatting, watching their grandkids play. This little patch of public space is packed with life. So, here's what strikes me. The playground was built by the government, not for profit, not for show, just for the community. It's not luxurious, but it's here, free, accessible, used every single day. So, this is what community looks like in China and it's everywhere.

So, people live in their own houses, their own yards and there's space between neighbors. Here, the space is shared. You cannot avoid each other and honestly, that creates connections. You know the grandma who watches your kids. You recognize the shopkeeper downstairs and you are part of something. So, this little playground is not special. That's exactly the point. It's ordinary and it holds something precious, a sense of belonging. And in China, that feeling is everywhere.
