Jesus Warned Us The Rise of Narcissism in Today’s Culture

[00:00:03]So today in this message we'll take a look at something that many people are noticing. That is narcissism is rising in our culture and not just a little.

[00:00:13]It's everywhere.

[00:00:15]As seniors we have a unique outlet on this. It is because we remember when things still had meaning, respect mattered, people cared about what they said and there was a sense of normalcy, decency and shared values. We lived through a time when right was right and wrong was wrong and society still agreed on the difference. But that no longer exists today. Just look around.

[00:00:42]Everywhere you turn there is chaos, people behaving in ways that not long ago would have brought a prison time.

[00:00:50]Yet now such behaviors are brushed off as normal, expressive or that's just the way people are.

[00:00:58]And the truth is this cultural shift didn't happen by accident, friends. But it's been shaped, conditioned and pushed by individuals and systems that operate with narcissistic traits, such as entitlement, manipulation, lack of empathy and a hunger for control.

[00:01:18]Narcissistic behavior has become the model that society imitates today and the reason is because it's rewarded, amplified and normalized. And the more society imitates narcissism, the more disconnected, chaotic and morally confused everything becomes. And as seniors we see it clearly because we lived before the distortion and remember what culture looked like growing up. And the average family did have structure back then. Community still had standards and people in general still had a conscience. And now we're in the world where the loudest self-absorbed voices shape the narrative, feelings override the truth, manipulation is called influence, rebellion is called freedom.

[00:02:12]And accountability is completely dismissed. But, here's the part that helps us understand just what is happening. And that is, Jesus told us this would occur. He said that in the last days, hearts would grow cold, lawlessness would increase, and people would become lovers of themselves, and deception would spread across the earth.

[00:02:37]That's found in 2 Timothy.

[00:02:39]And according to the ancient texts, the same cultural narcissistic systems were in place two other times during Noah and Lot's day. So, do you find it coincidental that Jesus himself stated that in the days you and I live in, that the culture would be exactly the way it was in Noah and and Lot's day?

[00:03:02]That's found in Luke 17, by the way.

[00:03:05]And in those days, narcissism was everywhere.

[00:03:08]So, what we're seeing isn't random, or we're not imagining it. It's just the times, or that it's just that the times are changing.

[00:03:18]It's exactly what the scriptures said would unfold. And that means we don't have to feel confused or question why things are the way they are, because we already know what matters most, though.

[00:03:32]And that is to stay awake, grounded, and aligned with the one who told us the truth from the very beginning.

[00:03:41]And because conditions in culture, friends, are going to grow incredibly worse as the narcissism escalates.

[00:03:50]And we have to stay aware and anchored.
