[00:00:01]Hello everyone. Today I'm going to be doing the second practice for the math PT.

[00:00:08]It's only posted in week six, not in week seven. And it's 20 questions. So we'll start with the first question.

[00:00:18]Put these numbers in order with smallest first.

[00:00:22]So we have in the first step we have to what we have to do is we have to make all of them into one specific type of um number like maybe all of them into decimals, all of them into fractions, all of them into percentage. So I'll pick um all of them into decimals.

[00:00:44]So I'll put them in different colors.

[00:00:46]Red 0.9 it's already a decimal.

[00:00:50]And then we have 1 over 5.

[00:00:54]1 / 5 um equals to as a decimal 0.2, right?

[00:01:02]And then 52%.

[00:01:05]52% as a decimal is um 0.52.

[00:01:16]Then 0.545 is already a decimal so no need. And then 82% as a decimal would be 0.82.

[00:01:32]And then the last one which is 3 over 4 as a decimal would be 0.75.

[00:01:46]So since we found all of them as decimals now we have to check which one is smallest and then uh we have to arrange it from smallest to largest. So we have to look at the first number.

[00:02:01]This is nine. This is two. This is five.

[00:02:03]This is five. This is eight. This is seven. Which one is the smallest?

[00:02:08]Two. Right? So the first one, the first one, the smallest would start with 1 over five.

[00:02:22]Okay. And then we have to look. So this is finished. Okay. Then we have next 9 55 58 7. 98 and 7 are big. So we have 0.52 and 0.545.

[00:02:37]We check on the other number only for these two. Which one is bigger? Two or four? Four. So that means this one is smaller. So the next one would be 52%.

[00:03:01]So after 52% this is the second one we're finished with. We have 0.545, right? So 0.545.

[00:03:13]Then we have all the fives and the twos finished.

[00:03:20]0.545.

[00:03:23]Um then we have 9 87. Which one is smallest? 0.75.

[00:03:29]Which is as a number 3 over 4. If it wasn't drag and drop and you had to write it down, you would write the numbers like 1 over 5, 52%, you won't write them as decimals. Okay, just remember that.

[00:03:50]And then the next one we have 0.82 which is smaller 82%.

[00:03:57]And then the last one which is the biggest is 0.9.

[00:04:01]Okay. So, I write this um down.

[00:04:08]One over five, the first one. Then we have 52% the second smallest one. Then 0.545, the third smallest one. 3 over 4 and then 82% and then the biggest would be 0.9. So you keep on checking each and every digit uh digit and see which one is bigger. Now this question it's really easy. We'll start with the first one. We always have we have a PEMDAS. Okay. PEMDAS S. So uh P stands for parentheses.

[00:04:44]Parenthesis. E stands for exponent. What does exponent means? Like example 5 to the^ of two. Two is the exponent. M is multiplication.

[00:04:56]D is division. A is addition. And the last one s is subtraction. So here so according to the pendas what do we have to start with the parentheses right? So 8 + 5 is um 13. So we have 21 - 13, right? And then 21 - 13 = 8. So the answer would be 8.

[00:05:31]So this is 8. Then the second one, again we have to start with the parentheses. So 8 - 5 3. And then we just copy paste 21 + 3 = 24. So the answer would be 24.

[00:05:49]Okay, these are just um questions that really should help you get a higher grade. Then here it's um a word pro a word problem. What is 30% of 400? So 30% as a fraction, what do you write? 30 over 100, right?

[00:06:14]times of is always uh when you see of in any math problem that means it's times and then $400 or 400. Then we just simplify or cancel.

[00:06:29]So the answer would be 4 * 3 12 add a zero. So $120.

[00:06:42]Number four.

[00:06:52]Sorry. Um, the internet's slow.

[00:07:05]Okay. Yeah.

[00:07:08]So, this was $120.

[00:07:12]Then number four, what is 0.2 * 700? Now whenever we have 100 like 10 or 100 or a thousand or okay continues um and we have a decimal that means um that means we can move the decimal uh to the right. So example we have 0.2 2 * 700. We can cancel these two uh zeros and move the decimal point to the right side. So there we got 20 * 7. So 20 * 7 is 140. So the answer is 140.

[00:07:56]Then question number 20 uh five sorry five. What is 3 * 11 over 62? Times times multiplication. So 3 * 11 over 62.

[00:08:11]11 * 3 is 33. 33 over 62. So can we um simplify it? Is it divisible by three?

[00:08:22]Yes. 33 is divisible by 3. But 62, no, it's not divisible by 3. 2. Can we div uh divide it by two? No. Both of uh one 62 can be divided by two, but not 33.

[00:08:35]It's a odd number. So this is the most simplified it can go. So the answer is 33 over 62.

[00:08:45]Then number six. Here we have to find what um is the pattern. How how are we getting the numbers in this sequence? So what we have to do is check how we going how are we going from 9 to 15 15 to 21 to 27 27 to 33. So 9 to 15 what are we doing? Adding six right.

[00:09:14]So 9 + 6 = 15. Then we check 15 + 6 = 21. So it's correct. 21 + 6 = 27.

[00:09:25]Correct. 27 + 6 = 33 correct. So that means this is the correct thing. We are doing the number over here plus six to get the the next number. So if we want to find the number that was before the thing. So example if we're going this side we're going plus 6. But if we want to go backwards what are we doing? - 6 - 6 right? So 9 - 6 equ= 3. So the answer would be three.

[00:10:04]And even if you um notice it's like all of them are um in the three uh three times table. So three um 3 9 15 21 27 33. But that really doesn't help because they are random numbers of the times table. Then here another word problem.

[00:10:25]Danny drove his car at the speed of 90 km per hour.

[00:10:31]What is the total distance Danny traveled in three uh 1 / 2 hours? So if you remember speed is equal to distance over time.

[00:10:47]Even if you don't remember, look at this.

[00:10:52]90 km per hour. So it's this really means kilometers over hour. So what's kilome? The distance. What's hours? The time. So that helps you remember that distance over time is equal to speed.

[00:11:10]They will always show you this. So you don't have to memorize. You just have to know kilometers distance or hours, minutes, seconds is time. Okay, we all know that. So Danny traveled in 3 1 / 2 hours. How do we know?

[00:11:32]Some people like to make a table like I like making a table.

[00:11:36]So So here kilometers hours 1 hour 90 km 3 1 / 2 hours. So that's under this um tape column, right? So from 1 to 3 1 /2, how what do you do? Times what? Times 3 1 /2, right? 1 * any number is equal to that exact number. So that's time 3 1 / 2. So here, if you're doing * 3 1 /2, you have to do the same here, right?

[00:12:10]>> [snorts] >> So we just have to do 90 * 3 1 / 2 90 * 3 1 /2. Now what do we know about mixed numbers and multiplication? We know that they are enemies. We can't do that. We can't have a mixed number doing multiplication. So what do we have to do? We have to make this into a fraction. So this times plus that means 90 * 3 * 2 6 + 1 7 7 / 2. What did I do here? I made this mixed number into a fraction because we can't do multiplication with a mixed number. So always when you want to make a mixed number into a fraction, you do times these two and add the denominator with the numerator. So 3 * 2 is 6. 6 + 1 is 7. So that's the numerator and the denominator would stay the same. Okay.

[00:13:09]So that means 90 * 7 / 2.

[00:13:15]Um we can simplify if you want but I would rather do that um after.

[00:13:22]So 90 * 7 [snorts] is uh 630 over 2, right? And then when we divide it, when you divide 630 divide it 2, you would get uh 35.

[00:13:41]Okay. So the answer is 315 kilmters in 300 I mean 3 1 /2 hours. Okay. So whenever you have these type of questions just make the table and if you think you can't make the table then always use the um like formula which is speed equals um distance divided time.

[00:14:15]Okay.

[00:14:16]Then number eight.

[00:14:19]What is the value of x in the equation 4x - 3 = 25? 4x - 3 = 25.

[00:14:28]We can't add subtract them together because this has a x and this doesn't.

[00:14:33]So, we take this to the other side. So, 4x equals what's um when we take it to the other side, it turns positive, right? Then 4x = 25 + 3 28. Then over four over four to remove the four next to the x. Then these two cancel each other and this is one. This is 7 because 7 * 4 = 28. So that means x = 7.

[00:15:04]So x = 7. Yes.

[00:15:07]Then number nine.

[00:15:09]Megan runs a store. It costs 3,6 I mean 36,000 a year. Most of the money goes to paying rent. The ratio of rent to other co uh costs is 3 to 1. How much does me Megan spend on rent every year? Choose the two correct solutions. So before some people like to first check all these without even knowing the answer.

[00:15:39]But an easier way is first finding the answer and then checking all of these if the answer is correct or no. Okay.

[00:15:48]So table helps us in a lot of um questions in this quiz. So just try to understand the table um way. So most of the money goes to paying rent. Ratio of rent to other costs. So rent two other costs and then we have a total. In every table we always have a total. Okay.

[00:16:16]Then rent three and other costs is 1.

[00:16:21]What's the total? 3 + 1 4. Now this was like um our simplified um numbers but here it's 3,600 I mean 3 36,000 as a total. So 36,000 as a total.

[00:16:43]So for four to become 36,000, what do we do? Times 90 I mean uh yeah 90,000.

[00:16:55]90,000 [snorts] I mean 9,000. Sorry. 9,000. So how much does Megan spend on rent every year? So now we just have to do times 90,000 9,000 to all of them. 9,000 times 9,000.

[00:17:15]So the other costs is 9. The answer would be 9,000. 3 * 9,000 would be 27,000.

[00:17:27]Okay. So how much does Megan spend spend on rent every year?

[00:17:34]Okay. So since we know now the answer would be 27,000 right? We know the answer for rent would be 27,000. So now uh what we have to do is um solve all these equations and check which one uh equals 27,000 and uh choose it. Right?

[00:17:54]So we'll start with the first one.

[00:17:57]Whenever we have questions with a lot of zeros, we forget the zeros, do the calculation and then add the zeros again. Okay? So, example, we remove these zeros for now. Okay? 36 / 3 is 12, right? 12 * 3 uh 3 is 36. Then we uh get the zeros back. So, is it equal to 12,000? Yes. So, this is I mean this is wrong.

[00:18:26]because we are looking for 27,000.

[00:18:30]Okay, we'll just keep it up there so we can know so we know. Then we remove the zeros again. 36 / 4 is 9. 9 * 4 is 36.

[00:18:40]Then we add the zeros back again. Is it correct? Is 9,000 equal to 27,000? No.

[00:18:47]So this is also wrong. These two are wrong.

[00:18:54]Then the next one um we always start with the division.

[00:18:59]Remember PEMDAS PMAS parentheses exponent time multiplication division addition subtraction. So first which one do we have to do? Subtraction or division? Division. Division is much more important than subtraction. So we first do this. Remove the zeros. 1 9 we add the zeros again.

[00:19:25]So what's and then we remove the zeros again of course 36 - 9 = to um 27. Then we add the zeros again. So is 27,000 equal to 27,000?

[00:19:42]Yes. So this is one correct answer. Then we have two more to check if it's if they are correct. 4 * 36. Remove the zeros.

[00:19:58]It's4 I mean 4 144. And then we add the zeros again. So it's definitely not 27,000.

[00:20:09]Then we have the last one which would be the correct answer. We always have to start if we have times and division in the same thing then we always start from right I mean left to right okay so 3 * 36,000 we remove the zeros and then we do 36 * uh * 3 which is 108 and then you add the zeros again divided 3 + 1 four. So that divided four. Remove the zeros.8 / 4 equ= 27.

[00:20:55]So 27. And then we add the zeros again.

[00:20:58]So is it correct? Yes. So this is the second correct answer. And then find the answer. We already found the answer. So that's 27,000. So see the table way uh helps us understand both of the parts of the question. Now next question. The solid is built from cime cubes. What is the volume of the solid? Now if it said cm cubes so that means each cube okay is equal to 1 cm. That means each cube is like 1 cm.

[00:21:36]So if one cube is 1 cm that means how many like what's the volume of it? That means each cube is 1 cm. So how many uh do we have? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14. We have 14 cubes and all of them have 1 cm. Okay, they're are cime cubes.

[00:22:02]If it's a cm then we aren't sure if it's going to be one but they would say 2 cm or 3 cm or 4 cm. So 14 * 1 because all of them are 1 cm 1 cm 1 cm 1 cm all of them are 11 1 1 right? [snorts] So 14 * 1 = 14. That means the volume would be 14 cm right? Even if you check if all of them are one one one one how many ones are there? 14. 1 * 14 = 14.

[00:22:47]Then question number 11.

[00:22:50]There are three uh parts. The first one 2 over 5 times a uh as a percentage. So it's 2 over 5. As a percentage, we have to do times 100. When we want to find something as a percentage, we have to do times 100. Then this is that. So [snorts] it'll be 20 * uh so that'll be 20. So the answer would be 40. 40%.

[00:23:21]Okay. So 40%.

[00:23:26]One angle is 1 / six turn. When you want to find an angle, you always have to do the thing times 360.

[00:23:37]So to find it.

[00:23:40]So um again, so 1 / 6 * 360.

[00:23:45]So we have to cancel uh 6 and 360.

[00:23:49]6 divided um so that be 60. So that means 60°.

[00:23:56]So it's 60°.

[00:24:00]Now here work 1 * 8 over 5. Now don't get confused. Some people might think it's 8 1 over 5. Done. Okay. But that's wrong. We have to It's 1 * 8 and see 1 * 8. So is it just 8 1 over 5? know it's 8 * 1 which is 8 over 5. So we still have to convert this into a mixed number. So 8 over 5, we do long division. So 8 5 1 5 3 we stop here and we make our V.

[00:24:38]Okay, this uh direction. So that means we start with one then three then five.

[00:24:45]Okay. So again we make our V after we finish the all the digits in this way.

[00:24:52]So one 3 over 5. We can also check if it's correct like the way we uh I showed you. If we want to make it into a fraction what do we have to do these two times and then numerator uh plus the denominator. So 1 * 5 is 5 + 3 is 8. So 8 over 5. The denominator stays the same. So is it correct? Yes. So this is the correct answer as a mixed number. Number 12.

[00:25:42]So yeah, number 12. [clears throat] Below is a diagram on Mr. Baker's front yard. His dog kennel is at point K. So Mr. Baker has a dog. A dog kennel is a type of house for a dog. So his front yard, a front yard, is it is it like a border? Like you know what I mean? like a border and it's like plain. Nothing is here. It's just a picture frame as if it's a frame. Or does it have something inside too, right? So, it's a front yard. So, that means he can also walk inside it. He can walk outside, inside, anywhere inside this place, right? Because it's a front yard. So, that means people can walk in this. Keep that in your mind, okay?

[00:26:33]Because it's a front yard.

[00:26:35]And then his dog kennel is at point K.

[00:26:38]So his little dog's house or kennel is at point K. The dog leash is 18 m long.

[00:26:47]The leash. So his leash is 18 m long. L is the furthest point the dog can reach.

[00:26:57]Find a L. So how do we find A?

[00:27:02]What we have to do is look whenever if you make uh picture it always next to a dog there's always like a little um uh screw like a type of bolt and there the leash is um there the leash is hold over there. Okay, it starts over there so the dog can't go everywhere in the yard. Right? So that means if next to the kennel is where the leash starts, the leash starts here, right? So in red, this is where the leash starts. And the furthest point is L. So that means this is how far he can go. Now some people would say, okay, he's a dog. He'll go like this. But again, remember this is a front yard. That means people can go inside, too. And a jog isn't coordinated to go like a full 90° angle, right? So this makes sense the most. So the red or this part would be 18 m long.

[00:28:12]Now we have to find K a how do we you know a rectangle this side is equal to this side and this side is equal to this side. Right?

[00:28:22]Because it's a rectangle the width are equal and the height I mean the length are equal. So if this side is 17 and this part of this is 5 m.

[00:28:34]So wouldn't we do 17 - 5 to find what a k is? So 17 um - 5 is equal to 12. So uh 12 + 5 is 17. So that means this side is 12. Get it? Because all widths are equal in rectangles. So if this part is five and this whole thing is 17, we would do 17 - 5 to find this part, right? Because 12 12 + 5 is 17. So they both are equal. So we found two sides 12 and this 18.

[00:29:10]Okay, how do we find a L though? Because we need to find A. We don't need to find AK or KL. We need to find A.

[00:29:21][snorts] So what do we do? A l there's something called Pythagorean theorem. In that theorem it says hyp um hypotenuse squared equ= side squared plus another side squared.

[00:29:44]Okay. So in this case the hypotenuse if you know um if you remember a hypotenuse is the side that faces the right angle.

[00:29:54]This is a right angle. This is a right angle. This is a right angle. See this is the right angle for this triangle.

[00:30:01]And this is the side that faces that right angle. So a K is 12, KL is 18.

[00:30:10]This is X. We're going to name it X. And this would be the hypotenuse, right? So hypotenuse squar equ= side squar plus second side squared.

[00:30:26]What's the hypotenuse here? 18. Okay. I mean kl because it's the side that faces the right angle, right? They are looking at each other at this point. So hypotenuse squared side squared side. What's the hypotenuse?

[00:30:45]Kl 2 equals the first side is K a right. So K A 2 plus what's the second uh one? A L squ a L squ. So in this do we have any of them that are like that? The Pythagorean theorem. Yes. Look, KL 2= A K2 + AL 2 what we wrote right now we have to solve we have to find out what AL is correct to two decimal places okay so again we'll make it this is again 18 this is 12 this is X so we said KL² equals = k a 2 + a l 2. So kl as a number is 18 squared equals k a uh is 12 squared plus a l which is x. We named that x^2.

[00:31:59]Now we just have to solve. Don't worry that um they give you uh they say that you can have a calculator when you're doing this question um these questions.

[00:32:09]Okay, so remember to get your scientific calculator this Monday equals 12 * 12 is 144 + x^2. Now we take 144 to the other side. So 324 minus 144 because when you take something to the other side it turns negative it turns into opposite thing right. So the answer would be 180 equ= x^2.

[00:32:43][snorts] Now um that means x equ= the square t of 180 right because we have to do over two over over the square root. The opposite of square root is um I mean squared is square root, right? So we have to do that. So x equals square<unk> of 180 which is 13.416.

[00:33:13]But here but remember in the question they said two decimal places. What does that mean? That means two they should we should only put two decimal places two dec uh two numbers that after the decimal point. So example if they said three that means we can put it as 13.416 okay but instead they said two decimal places that means we have to remove this and keep it like this but we have to round it up if we want to do that. So is six bigger than five? Yes. So we add one to this one. So it be the answer would be 13.42.

[00:33:54]So AL is 13.42.

[00:34:04]Okay. Um the total length of the edges L of a cuboid is L = 4 A + B + C. So a cuboid a cube in another way in a much sophisticated way to say a cuboid is a cube a cube has all the sides equal right you have seen a Rubik's cube you know the Rubik's cube all its sides are equal so even if these uh even if this looks as if it's rectangular look this looks different than this and that and It's just trying to trick you. If you see a cube, remember a Rubik's cube. A Rubik's cube has all the sides equal. So all the edges are 6 cm long. So this is six. This is six. This is six. This is six. Everything is 666. Okay. Now to find the length, we just have to follow the um thing they gave us, the formula they gave us. So, L [clears throat] = 4 4 * 6 + 6 + 6. Now, you might be asking why I put times because if they don't have any sign between this uh the parentheses and the number, that means it's times. Okay?

[00:35:31]Without even putting it. So L time uh = 4 * what's 6 + 6 uh + 6 that's 6 * 3 which is 18. So 18 * uh 4 = 72. So the length would be 70 sorry 72.

[00:35:52]So the answer would be 72.

[00:35:57][snorts] Um [clears throat and laughter] okay the formula for the length of a diagonal D is something. So here this is diagonal that means a slanted line going through the cuboid or the cube. So we have to follow the formula again it's I mean it's the same 6 cm long. Okay. So we just have to uh replace it with a plus a b and c. So square<unk> 6 2 + 6 2 + 6 2 square<unk> again. So 62 is 36. That's 62 is 36. 62 is 36. So 36 + 36 + 36 is 36 * 3 which is 108.

[00:36:49]So what's 108 square root?

[00:36:55]um 10.39.

[00:37:02]Here it says one decimal place. That means from the decimal place there'll only be one um number it can hold. So then we have to round it. Is 9 bigger than five? Yes. So we add one. So it' be 10.4. The answer would be 10.4.

[00:37:31]M uh Michelle is planning to buy light uh bulbs bulbs for his store. He has two factories to choose from. Factory A and factory B. Last year, factory A 3% of the thousand light bulbs produced were defective. Defective means broken or not working. Okay. Then factory B out of 2,000 light bulbs produced 50 were defective. So we have to check. So the first question how many light bulbs were defective in factory A. So we have to check 3%. Another way to say 3% is 3 over 100, right? times of remember when I said in any math equation of would be a um times times the thousand light bulbs then we just do our calculation uh I mean cancellation so equals to 30 uh light bulbs so 30 light bulbs were defective now here which factory produces best bulbs you may need to do another calculation So they gave you um a hint that you will be needing to do another calculation. So we know factory A is 30 light bulbs out of a thousand were defective. Okay. So that means not working.

[00:39:08]Okay.

[00:39:10]Then B is out uh out of 2,000 light bulbs 50 were detective defective. So 50 out of 2,000.

[00:39:24]Now 30 out of 1,000 instead of saying so much we'll just put it as 30 over a,000.

[00:39:33]And for this 50 over uh 2,000, right?

[00:39:38]Because as a fraction it means 30 out of 1,000 and here 50 out of 2,000. Right?

[00:39:45]So again a = 30 over 1,000 and b = 50 over 2,000.

[00:39:56]Now we um it's different numbers, right?

[00:40:00]This one is out of 1,00 and this one is out of 2,000. So since we want to find the easiest uh solution, we have to turn 2,00 into 1,000. So we can find which one is better. So 2,00 to become 1,000 we do divide two, right?

[00:40:20]So we have to do divide two for both of them. So this would be 1,000.

[00:40:27]This would be 25.

[00:40:29]So equal to 25 over a,000. So, which one would be better? Is 30 defective bulbs better or 25 defective bulbs?

[00:40:42]Uh 25 uh defective bulbs, right? Because um 25 would be better because even though it's just five defective light bulbs, that's a big difference, right? So we factory B is better because 30 is more than 25.

[00:41:04]Okay. So factory B because 30 is more than 25.

[00:41:12]15. Now this is a very long question.

[00:41:21]The table below gives the numbers of number of squares that form each of the first four figures if the pattern continues. So figure 1 is six squares.

[00:41:31]Figure 2 is 14 squares. What's figure three? We'll just solve figure 3. Okay.

[00:41:36]1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24. So it' be um 24.

[00:41:54]Okay. Then we have to find figure four.

[00:41:57]Can you see any um like similarity between it? Can you see a pattern between 6 and 14 and 14 and 24 and figure 1 to figure 6? You won't.

[00:42:10]Okay. So that's why we I have a better way to solve this. I split the question into two. I split the blue and the white. Okay.

[00:42:25]So if you look here they gave us a help formula it says instead of writing one figure 1 figure two figure three figure four they wrote they wrote nth figure. So that means in figure one one is the n right.

[00:42:45]So instead of writing figures we'll write n and here it's some n to the power of something plus n * something.

[00:42:54]So that helps us a little.

[00:42:58][snorts] Okay. So first off we'll start with the figures. So we'll just make a label figure or um n is 1 2 3. We'll stop at three because we only we're sure of these three, right?

[00:43:22]We have them over here. We aren't sure of four. We aren't sure of five. We aren't sure of six, right? And then we'll do start with blue.

[00:43:34]In the figure one, how many blues do we have? One.

[00:43:38]In figure two, how many blues do we have? Four.

[00:43:42]In figure three, how many blues do we have? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9ine blues. So, what are we doing? 1 * 1 2 * 2 3 * 3.

[00:43:57]So, what are we doing? We're doing n * n.

[00:44:02]Get it? Because blue = n * n because 1 is n, 2 is n, 3 is n. So, we're just doing the number times itself. So, that means n * n. Okay. Then the next one is white. We have to do white next. Okay.

[00:44:28]So, how many whites do we have in the first one? First figure, five. How many whites do we have in the second figure?

[00:44:37]Um, 10. How many whites do we have in the third figure? We have uh 15, right? Okay. If you count, there's 15.
