New federal veterans bill aims to expand care across South Texas

[00:00:00]It's a day to remember the sacrifice of those who gave their all for our country and for our freedoms. And for those who do make it back home, finding support while transitioning back to civilian life can be difficult to navigate, even hard to come by. So to help ease that struggle, Congress passed a $481 billion act that would help fund health care and benefits for veterans and their families. It's a wide reaching program that will make all the difference in military communities like we have here in the Coastal Bend, especially in rural areas where help is harder to find.

[00:00:38]We have a lack of medical resources in terms of uh we have a shortage of doctors and nurses in many regions in this area. And I think that that is a space for the Veterans Administration to really step in and assure there are more resources to asssure that the veteran community uh here in the coastal benon in South Texas has the care they need when they need it.

[00:00:56]And some of the biggest items in the bill include increased oversight in the staffing and weight times in VA healthc care facilities and a push for program development in existing VA medical centers.
