You see, I gave you an update about um the goldfields people asking the Ghana government for a 20-year extension and the IEA and then a lot of prominent people have spoken about the case. This is becoming a diplomatic conversation because now South African President Sir Ramoposa is reportedly being drawn into the Taqua mines controversy as goldfields pushes desperately for another 20 years of lease in Ghana. You see the taco mines we are talking about that has made um Mike Fraser that the CEO of Goldfields so desperate. It's not just a normal minds. We are talking about a mine that reportedly generated more than $2.3 billion in revenue last year alone. A mine so important that losing it could seriously affect Goldfield's global production and profit. The taco mines contributes more than 25% of the global production of gold fields. Aqua, it's a really important part of our business. In fact, 25% of our production comes out of Ghana.

[00:01:21]Our global production, a quarter of our production is from from Ghana. And in fact, here is the problem. Ghana is changing. The political mood is changing. The economic mood is changing.

[00:01:37]Because after the basis of foreign mining dominance, many Ganes are now asking when does Ghana finally take full control of Ghana's gold and other natural resources. [00:08:36]>> So why is ta so important? To understand why tension is rising, you must need to understand the scale of taco mines.

[00:08:45]Taqua is not just another mining town.

[00:08:48]It is one of the most productive gold mining zones in Africa, the entire Africa. And we have the privilege of being the largest gold mining company in Africa. And so when we think about our business in in Ghana, we see it as an extension of who we are as an African mining company. So when I think about uh Taqua, it's a really important part of our business. In fact, 25% of our production comes out of Ghana.

[00:09:22]our global production, a quarter of our production is from from Ghana.

[00:09:27]In some respects, we were very disappointed to see that Demang is no longer part of our our group because over 30 years of being part of of of Demang and seeing the success of Demang, it was a time um part of the the regulatory changes that that moved on to different ownership. So for nearly 30 years the gold fields has operated the taco concession under agreement with Ghana and according to reports the gold generated over 2.3 billion in revenue last year. Think about it for a second.

[00:10:04]One mine one concession billions of dollars. That is why this lease extension matters so much. In fact to Mike Fraser and his goldfields because for goldfields taqua is not just valuable it is very strategic. So losing taqua would not simply hurt profit it will reduce their global production by a complete 25%.

[00:10:29]It would affect the company's long-term global production strength and that explains why the pressure is now escalating internationally. In the opening of this video, I told you that Sir Ramoposa has been dragged into the case. Reports suggest that Goldfields is seeking the intervention of South African president seroposa to help negotiate with Ghana's President John Romani Mohamad. This is a big signal.

[00:10:54]Breaking news. South African mining company with president will actually expire in April 2027 report more than$2.3 billion US in revenue last year.

[00:11:26]are recording a net profit of about $427 million US because companies only seek presidential level diplomatic support when the stakes are extremely high. This means the company understands something very important. The resistance in Ghana is becoming serious, very serious. And honestly, this tells us the debate is no longer just about business contracts. It is now touching diplomacy, sovereignty, African economics and national identity.

[00:12:03]On one side, Goldfields wants continuity, stability and investment protection. On the other side, many Ghanaas want stronger local ownership and greater national control over mineral wealth. That is the tension at the center of this entire controversy.

[00:12:22]>> Um, goldfield has reportedly I mean made some 547 million in profit from Ghana.

[00:12:28]Uh, yet many mining communities still lack development. And if you have been to Daqua, if you've been to uh most of I mean been to Awasi and everything, you clearly would see that these communities really lack the necessary amenities for them to survive especially in a mining environment like like what they see themselves. So after nearly 30 years of mining I mean so people are asking what does Ali has think I mean in terms of the organiz in the mining area and so for me it's important that these state assess referred to Ghana thank god there were a number of other young men who were also in the documentary and they were protesting against the renewal of the lease why they cited poverty they cited their rules They they cited the joblessness. They cited the houselessness. They sed the poverty and the misery and the disease that have afflicted them for ages.

[00:13:25]Ghanaian. And we have said in this room several times the IA that we cannot just beat these people to the game if we don't own our natural resources. The year considers the requested lease renewal or extension, whatever they choose to call it, to be deeply enimical to Ghana's long-term economic and strategic interests and therefore calls on the government to soundly reject this uh approach, reject it decisively while prioritizing a framework that secures meaningful Ghanaian ownership and control of the minds at Taba. And I'm sure you have noticed what I'm about to tell you. Across Africa right now, something major is happening. Countries are becoming more aggressive about controlling natural resources.

[00:14:30]Governments and citizens are increasingly asking why should foreign corporations dominate African minerals forever. This movement is called resource nationalism. Many citizens believe Ghana has exported gold for decades. Yet ordinary people still struggle economically. And this story feels so emotional for a reason. You see at the heart of this debate is emotion.

[00:14:54]Deep emotion. Many Africans increasingly feel that the continent has supplied wealth to the world for generations without fully transforming its own economies and taka has now become symbolic for that frustration. This is why emotion are becoming intense. So some people see goldfields as a trusted long-term investor. Others see Taqua as a test of whether Ghana is finally ready to prioritize Ghanaian economic power.

[00:15:22]And honestly, this may become one of the defining economic decisions of President John Romani Muhammad's presidency because whatever happens next will shape investor confidence and the future direction of Ghana's mining industry. So to conclude, I will say at the moment nothing has been finalized yet, but one thing is absolutely clear. The Taqua mine debate has entered a new phase. a face involving president's diplomacy, billiondoll interest and the future of Africa resource ownership. And perhaps the biggest question now is this.
