Roy Sesana, a traditional healer from the Kalahari Desert, successfully challenged the Botswana government's forced relocation of the Sand Bushmen in 2006, winning the longest trial in Botswana's history by proving the evictions were unlawful and unconstitutional, though the government never restored water, services, or the land to the displaced community.

One man from the Kalahari took on the Botswana government. And won🇧🇼#BotswanaUntold#RoySesana#ShortsAjouté :
Batswana tried to remove the sand bushmen from their ancestral land. They didn't expect one man to fight back. Roy Sasana, born in the remote Kalahari desert, Sissana grew up as a traditional healer among the sand people, one of the last communities on Earth, still living entirely off their land. In the late 1990s, the government forcibly relocated families from the central Kalahari Game Reserve. Water supplies were cut off.
People were threatened with having their homes burned if they refused to leave.
The government said it was for conservation, but critics believed diamonds were the real reason. A $3.3 billion diamond deposit sat beneath the sand's ancestral land. Sasana took the government to court in the longest trial in Batswana's history, and he won. In 2006, the high court ruled the evictions unlawful and unconstitutional, but the government never restored their water or services. The mine opened in 2014 and suspended operations in 2017, but the land was never returned to the sand. In 2005, Cissana received the right livelihood award in Sweden. One of the world's most prestigious human rights honors. A traditional healer from the Kalahari forced the world to pay attention. Was justice truly served?
