This video documents a petition drive by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, which collected 42,344 signatures from Canadians across all provinces and territories to oppose Bill C-22, a proposed federal surveillance legislation that would require service providers to compile electronic data, develop extraction systems, and comply with secret government orders, raising concerns about privacy rights and civil liberties.

42,344 Canadians call on Parliament to stop Bill C-22 surveillance legislationAdded:
And I'm here on Parliament Hill today because we are delivering a petition with 42,344 signatures asking Parliament not to proceed with Bill C-22, which gives the government dangerous electronic surveillance powers over Canadians. The people who signed the petition, many thousands of their fellow Canadians, and of course us at the JCCF, are concerned about Bill C-22 because it would require service providers to compile Canadians' electronic data, to develop systems for extracting information from it and turning it over to the government, and to comply with secret orders in the process of doing so. It's obvious, so on behalf of the 42,344 Canadians who signed this petition and everybody who's concerned about liberties in Canada, we call on Parliament to reject Bill C-22.
Now, we're going to take the petition down and present it, if we can, at the Prime Minister's office on Wellington Street. If not, we'll find some other way to get it to him because this is a very serious issue and we hope that he will treat it with the respect and consideration that it deserves.
Finally, I want to thank the thousands of Canadians who participated in this petition drive through the Justice Centre.
By signing this petition, Canadians entrusted us with carrying their concerns directly to Ottawa to ensure that their voices are heard by the people elected to represent them, and we have done so.
Thank you.
Turn it straight.
And in it goes.
Anything you want to say?
>> There it is.
Well, it was a little hard to get through, but they have accepted it and we hope they will look at it carefully, consider it carefully, and decide not to go ahead with the bill. In any event, we thank everybody who signed the petition for their efforts to preserve liberty in Canada.
