Soaring temperatures for NYC tomorrow

[00:00:00]National Fox 5 weather alert, a summer scorcher in the spring. Temperatures soaring well into the 90s today in Central Park.

[00:00:06]>> That's right. Even a slew of heat advisories in effect as we speak. Chief meteorologist Nick Gregory tracking it all at the weather map, and we're not done yet, Nick. No, we've got one more 90° day, plus 90° day coming up for tomorrow. But certainly today it's been a hot one.

[00:00:19]Now, we stopped at 92 in the city. The record for Midtown was 99 set 1962, but we do have a new record at Newark. It's showing 98 here, but we hit 99 in Newark today. Look at Belmar at 97, and uh mid-90s really. Poughkeepsie there, 90° weather Eastern Pennsylvania. Little bit cooler as you move down into the island.

[00:00:37]As expected, we were talking about 70s on the East End. Here the current numbers are still 97 at Newark, 96 at Belmar, 91 in Midtown, 91 up the Hudson Valley there. A little cooler White Plains. Now we're back to the 70s Southern Connecticut across the island, and back to 90 still as we get to Allentown. So we do have a southwest wind, and it's a bit gusty. It's 10 to 20, but look at the gusts here. They're pushing 25 to 30, and uh we'll keep that southwest wind tonight at about 10 to 15 mph. That's going to keep it quite warm and a bit humid as well. And we do have this heat advisory that's in effect.

[00:01:05]That's going to last now right through Wednesday 8:00 p.m. for New York City, most of New Jersey, and also does now include the Mid-Hudson Valley. And again, the air quality alert, that's in effect till 11:00 tonight for the city, Northeast New Jersey, Central New Jersey, Long Island, and towards the lower West Westchester and Southern Connecticut. So a couple of showers may move off to those. Remember we talked about that yesterday. There might be a few that might sneak across the northern suburbs. Uh they're going to kind of disappear. This will be the big weather maker, the cold front coming our way tomorrow. So overnight warm and humid, mostly 70s, uh mid-70s at that. Uh 60s, the low 60s out on the East End.

[00:01:40]Tomorrow back up to the low to some mid-90s, but the clouds will be on the increase into the afternoon, and will be the potential for some strong thunderstorms on into the evening. And then after that, it cools right back down. But it looks like the clouds and showers will stick around into Thursday.
