Your WTOL 11 weather impact forecast: What to expect in northwest Ohio, southeast Michigan

[00:00:01]Happy Tuesday everyone. Meteorologist Davis Wells joining you here to get a look at the extended forecast for the next several days leading into this coming weekend. Things are looking pretty nice. We started off with some showers and storms earlier today, but we are already past that. We're going to start to see things drying out heading into the rest of our afternoon and evening. Temperatures into the middle 80s and that sunshine increasing for us and that's just really going to be the start of the pattern that we're going to start to see. There's those downpours that moved through earlier this morning.

[00:00:34]May have woken you up if you heard a few rumbles of thunder or that just heavy rain coming down. We're already dry well back into Northwest Ohio and honestly a good chunk of western Ohio as well. I do want to show you this is the Storm Prediction Center's outlook for strong to severe storms and I want to kind of dive into this just a little bit. So this is nearly the identical forecast outlook that they had just yesterday and we mentioned that the overall threat was going to be well down to our south and east and I still believe that that is going to hold true for today and I think the threat for any strong storms for us is over. So if you are in Northwest Ohio even up into Southern Michigan your threat is pretty much done and over with. That main impact area is going to be down towards Columbus over towards Cambridge Akron Mansfield even down towards Chillicothe as well. That's going to be kind of the better ingredients setting up for those strong storms later on today. For the rest of the day though for us here locally maybe an isolated shower as that cold front continues to get even closer to our area. Things are going to be pretty quiet and you're going to notice during the overnight hours as we have those clear skies really working into our area. You're going to notice the air turning much drier. There's going to be very little humidity out there and things are going to stay quiet really for the duration of Wednesday, and then even heading into Thursday, it's going to be almost identical with those temperatures actually cooling down. Highs only into the middle, maybe upper 70s at most. I want to show you this cool down now as it moves in. So, for the rest of today, we're into the lower middle 80s. Again, that sunshine increasing. We will notice though during the overnight hours things really start to cool on down. We're back into the 50s, even those feels like temps into the upper 40s. So, if this is a great opportunity with you to be able to turn off air conditioning, kind of even let some fresh air in into your home. This is the perfect opportunity. I know we've had a very warm July, and a lot of electricity bills likely saw a surge. If you haven't checked your bill, you might want to double-check. I know mine was at least increased. But, even for Wednesday, we're only into the middle and upper 70s. I want to show you this drier air also working its way in. So, this is a for Tuesday afternoon and evening into the upper 60s and 70s for dew points.

[00:03:01]So, that's certainly is a bit more of a muggier feel, but watch what happens as we head into the overnight. Here comes that cold front. Dew point values dropping back into the 40s, maybe near 50°.

[00:03:12]That's going to be much drier air. You are going to feel it, and you're going to notice it, too, making it a little bit more bearable for those walks out or even getting some of that yard work done around town. You'll notice though we don't really have any large weather impacts.

[00:03:27]If anything, you just need to take advantage of the cooler and drier conditions that'll be settling in. This is going to start for tomorrow, noticing a drop in humidity, the cooler conditions. Enjoy that fresh air. Get those windows open. Enjoy it because this is almost a more of a fall preview and when it's still July for us. So, take advantage of it. Drier air settling in for really the second half of this week. We'll start to see some increase in the mugginess and the humidity by the time we head towards this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday, but still not even tracking a ton of storm chances with that. I think we're going to hold off on that until at least next week.

[00:04:06]Overall trend for the temperatures, this takes us for the next 8 to 14 days, so officially in towards the end of July and the start of August, you'll notice near average up to the New England states, but off to the west. We've seen a similar picture several times over the past month or two as heat is building on in and it's likely that we will have another heat dome that begins to push in and we'll have to see how that evolves past the 14 days as we get further into August, but this could end up creating a once again temperatures increasing back into the upper 80s, even 90s once again, and we've have to also watch too as those heat domes push into the United States. That can set up more of an active storm pattern for us as well, but at this point things are looking A-OK for us.

[00:04:59]Here's that extended forecast. Those rain chances for this morning, they were at about 60% chance. For the rest of today, we're only looking at about a 20% chance and that's a spotty shower at best. Temperatures will be falling back during the overnight and for tomorrow and Thursday into the middle and upper 70s, even heading into this weekend.

[00:05:19]We'll get a couple degrees warmer each day. Low 80s for Friday, middle 80s Saturday and near 90° for Sunday. Notice those rain chances still staying away for us. Things are looking pretty pleasant overall. Next week though, that's where we start to see those rain chances start to sneak back into the forecast though, no complete washouts thankfully. Only have a 30% chance for next Tuesday. Those temperatures will be gradually falling back as well as we get back into the middle lower 80s and then eventually the upper 70s. We're going to keep an eye though on that heat dome that will looks to be building off to the west towards the end of our extended forecast. That could cause those temperatures to begin to increase, but our average high for this time of year is about the middle 80s, 86 degrees officially.
