CHANGE IS GOOD? | SAVE DAY SUNDAY
Added:Well, this is going to be a little different and this is not our usual save day Sunday video cuz things have changed and we've made some changes in our financial world and what better way to share it than in a video.
So you guys know that I save money on a low income week after week, month after month and lately over the last year or so I have been putting aside $25 a week from my budget to put towards savings challenges so we can then save money to re- build our sinking funds or build up sinking funds that we already have money allocated to.
I also save for small things that are happening in life, life events, things that we currently need in the moment.
So this money came from the sinking funds binders that I was working with but the sinking fund binders weren't working for me so if you didn't watch my previous previous budgeting video then you won't know that I redid everything cuz if it's not working we have to fix it.
So this money I decided to put into our savings challenges so during a later date we can figure out what we need to do with the money. I also have multiple ways that I save. I have piggy banks, I have two different ones currently. I have the 100 envelope challenge and I have multiple different types of savings challenges.
So let's count up this money and see what we have to work with and see how far we can get.
So, we have 20 40 60 80 85 90 95 100 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 and 36.
So, I did add the $25 that I would normally put towards Save the Day Sunday into this pile of cash.
So, we have 130 some odd dollars to work with, which is a lot more than I expected.
So, let's start by going to the one that we know we owe some money to, and that is this little savings challenge here with the little gnomies.
The cute little gnomes that we have here.
And I scratched off $4 for this time.
So, I need to put in $4. 1 2 3 4.
And because this is a scratch off, I try to make sure that I'm scratching ahead of time. That way I know that I'm not going to be stunned during the video.
So, we now have 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 dollars, and we're going to take 1 2 3 4 5.
And we'll condense it down.
Now, as I scratch this next one, I got asked why I budget the way I do in my previous video. Seems like a lot of work. Seems like a lot of categories and all the things. Well, I don't think that we realize over the year how much we actually spend in different categories in our lives.
And when you add it up, you might be shocked.
Because I've added it up and I was shocked.
Let's face it.
Not everybody loves the budget the same way. And if you don't like it, you don't have to watch. If it's not for you and you've tried it, it's not for you and you've tried it.
So, $6 for next time.
But, this way of saving, this way of um doing things specifically with sinking funds the way I do has helped me accomplish a lot of things.
And I haven't talked about it in a while and I think I should because it has been a part of my absent journey because I had a life before YouTube, right?
I got myself out of almost $11,000 in debt in a year's time during a very rough time in my life um where I was houseless.
And it was from the envelope system that I was able to do that.
And it really taught me how to categorize all the things in my life.
And once that envelope was empty, I didn't have any more money to spend on that particular thing.
And I think it also helped me categorize my bills at one point in time. I don't need the envelope system any longer to do my bills um because I've been doing it for a really long time.
And that helped me just get started in really knowing where every single dollar I had was going.
Because let's face it.
It's easy to overspend money. It's easy to think that we have money that we don't.
It happens to you a lot of us.
And it's helped me gain an emergency fund multiple times throughout the last 3 years on this channel.
I currently have over $1,200 in my high-yield savings account with my emergency fund in it. That's my emergency fund.
So, it's helped me out a lot. I'm also credit card debt free.
I don't have credit card payments. I don't have a car payment. I don't have a student loan payment. And I'm down to my last two debts.
Which I don't talk about on this channel any longer.
And there's a reason for that along with my bills. And unfortunately, people ruin the experience of me sharing those things. So, there are things I don't share on this channel anymore that need to stay private. And I've realized now that it is what it is. And that's okay.
But, I have also gone from houseless back to renting, which I thought I would honestly never really accomplish. Um at least my myself cuz I was a >> [clears throat] >> I was dating my husband at the time. We weren't actually um at that stage where we were living together.
Um which this was quite some time ago now. Um but after we got married, we had a goal to save money for a house, and we wanted to be homeowners. And even though this is not my ideal situation of home ownership, I was able to with cash stuffing and working with my savings challenges, and my sinking funds, and delegating all of my bills through envelopes, which a lot of you guys watched, day after day, week after week, month after month, we were finally able to obtain the money to purchase this home.
And we've also used money throughout the last 2 years on fixing this home up.
So, it works for me, but it doesn't have to work for you if this is not the method that works for you.
It's not for everybody.
So, let's go on to our savings challenges. I hope that that answers the burning questions out there of why is she doing this? Well, this works for me, and this is how I do things, and I just like doing it.
It brings me joy to know that I'm making progress slow and steady. Cuz really, honestly, when it comes to finances, I've learned throughout the last at least 10 years that I have been doing budgeting, cash stuffing, whether it be on YouTube or not, that this is a snail's race when you're on a low income.
And sometimes it's just being patient.
Cuz being patient's hard.
It is hard. I have lacking of patience.
I am so sick of being in the hurry up and wait category.
And that alone is a video in itself.
So, I rolled a three.
We are going to put in number three in here.
I hope I can find a pen.
I may not be finding a pen. Okay.
So, we're going to do this a little different.
I'm going to color one of these and then I'll put the number in there.
But hopefully this inspires you to rethink your own finances, especially during a struggling economy.
And then I'm going to roll again.
We'll do a two.
So, I wanted to talk about DoorDash, Uber Eats, Spark, Instacart, and all the things while I am here.
It has been picking up, which is good news.
It's summertime.
So, hopefully this means that things will start to look up a little bit because I could really use really use some good news especially with all the things that I have been dealing with lately.
I'm going to roll again.
Let's find a yellow. See this crazy neon yellow.
If you do not love neon yellow.
Let's do one.
So that finishes that row.
Let's go ahead and add it all up. So we have three and two is five plus four is nine. One is 10. So I'm going to go ahead and put five.
And I'm going to condense this. We're going to take these fives and put a 20 in.
So now we have 20 40 1 2 and 3 in this roll the dice savings challenge and I've only done two rows.
So that's exciting.
All right. Next is going to be my cute little cows from Lisa Grateful Me which by the way this roll the dice savings challenge is from Lisa Grateful Me. So is this one. She does an amazing job her and her daughter-in-law I believe are the ones that make these challenges. Now I need something to go underneath here so it doesn't bleed through.
And I'm just going to go ahead and pick an orange.
And we'll do a row. We'll do three.
two and one.
So, it's $6 there.
And this may not go into my medical fund. I have now after revamping everything, I have a medical, dental, vision individual envelopes.
So, now we have 5 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 dollars in here.
Which is great. It's really good.
Really good. And we finished a little box.
Next, I want to make sure before we go back to any other challenges, um I want to make sure This is just a paycheck envelope. Doesn't say anything on it.
I'm going to go to the owl here.
And we're going to finish coloring in this snowflake.
So, that's five right there. So, we'll put the five over here.
And then we need 10 20 30 40 50 60 to finish this.
I do have 60 dollars. So, let's just go ahead and finish it off.
Now, I was going a little high on this one just because I was going to use it for something specific.
But now I don't know what I'm going to be using it on.
I feel pretty happy about completing challenges.
Sometimes saving small amounts the way I have to really does it does boost my morale. It boosts my dopamine to want to save more money, right?
It's a little I finished high.
Somebody said that this is like reverse gambling.
I'm like, kind of.
I don't necessarily need savings challenges to save.
And I think my most successful way of saving has been my piggy banks in my opinion.
Feel like I'm the queen of the piggy banks.
All right, so this one is now complete.
So let's count it up. It should have 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 110.
So we have 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 5 and 10.
So now we can get a paper clip from the hiding spot that we keep Mr. Rudy Roo away from.
Stealer of all the things shiny and hair tie like.
And I'm going to put this in the back.
I will move on to this one, which this one will be completed as well. These little savings challenges are from Miss Lady Di Saves. She every Tuesday she puts out new teeny tinies, which that's what these are.
And I really do enjoy watching her channel.
I have a few budgeters I watch. You guys know who you are if I comment.
There aren't a lot of you, and some of them I don't comment on because I guess I will say I watch you on my TV.
Um but I do watch a few non-budgeting channels as well.
Um I do have a couple of favorites there as well.
But for the most part, believe it or not, I don't really watch a lot of YouTube. So, now we have um 5 10 15 20 25 30, which we have here, and that is now complete.
But this just makes me feel like I'm finishing the savings challenges that I do have, and that we're not sitting on them forever, and then we can reallocate the money all together where it needs to go.
So, we have two blank envelopes, which is great. Means that we can start some new things down the line.
All right. Now we're going to go to the little piggy saving challenge.
This is a 12-month challenge. So, each week I'm going to be coloring in a little dot.
So, we'll do $2 here to get this going.
So, now this has $3.
And you know what? I think I'm going to go ahead and color in the three and the four as well, so we get this first month out of the way.
I could do more, but I don't want to move too fast on this cuz I have a purpose for it, and it's not right now.
So, we're going to add um 4 5 6 7 dollars in here.
I didn't think with my brain.
It's hard to do sometimes at the end of the week.
Especially after my busy schedule.
So, each section is a month.
Now, we see one is complete, so it should be 5 6 7 8 9 10 $10 a month, which is totally doable if you're really trying to start something super small.
So, $10 a month is um $120 for the year.
Savings is a savings.
I had lots of you comment saying, "Oh, well, I started a piggy bank, and I put it put in um all my change at the bank." And I think one of you guys said you made 80 bucks off of just change. And I was like, "That's great. That is super great."
Um I watch a gal on Facebook, and she cleans hotel rooms, and she does vacation rental cleanings, and she gets tips and coins, and finds um coins in bedding and stuff like that when she does the clean outs of these clean out of these rooms. And um I've done similar work, especially since I live in a tourist area.
And she kept all of her change and dollar bills and things throughout the month, and she kept it in a little Totino's uh salsa container and she would open it and dump it out and bring it to the bank and then that's what she was using to save for her emergency fund.
And she ended up saving quite a bit of money, which was super great.
So now we are going to progress on to um some other things, specifically the um 100 envelope challenge.
We did look at a vehicle.
We have been looking for a four-wheel drive all-wheel drive vehicle for quite some time now. It does not have to be new.
Does not have to be new. We already drive a 23-year-old car.
Um but we need something winter ready.
And winter ready by the end of summer, um probably beginning of fall. Um no later than November.
Once we have that vehicle down, then I do want to go ahead and get myself a regular work vehicle. Um and I mean regular work vehicle like I drive for a living and I would like to be able to go back to doing Uber and Lyft.
But we need that four-wheel drive all-wheel drive vehicle first before we sell um my little grandma church lady car.
So I have put some money in here. Well, technically this came from Jordan's paycheck.
I just put the money aside.
>> [laughter] >> Um and he said, "Put this towards the 100 envelope challenge." cuz now he knows what that 100 envelope challenge is going to be for. It's going to be a four vehicles of sorts, whether it is the four-wheel drive vehicle first or whether it is the Uber Lyft car first.
I do like doing Uber Lyft. I make the best money picking up people.
Now, I could redo this whole binder and say we're doing big numbers, but I'm going to not lie to you in this.
I I don't know if I'm going to have big numbers all the time, okay? So, I don't want to be putting that kind of stress on myself, and I feel like that would be really unethical for me to be like, "I'm going to put 50 bucks in every single one of these slots."
Cuz it ain't going to happen.
And that's okay. It's okay it's not going to happen.
Um but it is what it is. I'm using small amounts of money to try to get somewhere.
And that's just life.
Um members know I do have a little money that I have set aside from something we were working on to go towards this as well.
So, let's start stuffing.
I'm going to put 20 into 18.
I got a lot of ones here, too. I'm like looking over at the ones like, "Ew, I don't know."
But I have to get the car situation figured out, so that way my life situation get can get figured out because if I can't get back on the road on a regular basis, um I'm going to be struggling come this winter or even fall.
So, I'm putting 20 in 19 cuz it's close enough.
20 in 20.
And then I'm going to put Cuz see these numbers are getting bigger. Let's do 5 10 11 12 13 14 15 into 21. Cuz see this is what I can work with and I'm trying not to break this binder, okay? I could count out $21.
But and I could condense with money over there, but I want to keep that condensed for a reason.
Ooh, we're going to get this in here.
That's the question.
I don't think so.
I'll try this way.
Somebody you suggested for me to put cards in here with the money and wrap the money around the card.
Um but I was looking at blank business cards.
They are not cheap. They're not cheap.
And I'm not using my Pokémon cards.
I don't know if it's going to fit. Oh, there it goes.
When in doubt, it will go in.
Heave-ho.
There we go. It'll be easier coming out.

Um next is going to be We have so many ones.
We have so many ones. I might not have a choice.
I might have to condense, I think.

Ooh, I don't know if I like this, but right.

Oh my goodness.
I'm going to need to go to the bank.
I dislike going to the bank some of the time because I have to wait and it takes so much time to wait. So, we're going to put in $22 into this.
Oh.
Okay, there we go.
$22.
Be nice to me. I will say this, these are not very good. They're not very thick.
They tear pretty easy. And then I have 1 2 3 4 5, which I am not going to put that in here.
So, we were able to fill 1 2 3 4 5 slots for that.
I am going to go check out a older truck this Monday and see what that's like. I'm not necessarily like into interested in purchasing something right off the bat. And it's It's the first truck I've looked at.
I've looked at a many of trucks. I have also owned a couple of trucks in my lifetime.
I'm going to add some money to this mystery bank. Members, you know what it is. You know, you know.
And it's going to get that last $5.
And I'm not going to count this.
I'm just going to leave it in there. I am going to get my rubber bands out and probably band this up. So, that way I can add more to this. We can just add it in stacks.
But, this will be a pleasant surprise at the end of the year, I think.
I think it's going to be a pleasant surprise.
So, that is everything. That's all the money we worked with.
Um these challenges in here, come to think of it, because I need it to go in the safe place.
And fit and this goes in there anyway.
Let's go ahead and put our finished challenges in here.
So, we were able to finish a couple savings challenges, which will be reallocated down the road into sinking funds when I'm ready. When I'm ready.
By the way, you don't have to do anything super fast. None of this has to be fast.
This could all be a at the end of the year. This could be at the end of the month. This could be at the end of a quarter. However, you want to do it.
It's how you do it. You can stuff your sinking funds weekly and still do savings challenges.
I've done that as well.
Um there are some shifts and changes in my life right now.
Um in my family's lives. We have a lot of things going on. Uh Thank you guys to anybody who said beautiful and wonderful wonderful amazing just absolutely sweet comments about my grandmother's passing. I'm still processing it. It almost still kind of doesn't really feel real and I think I think once the holiday is really hit, it's going to hit everybody.
I think we'll notice it more then than any other time.
I will also add two new savings challenges into this into these two envelopes in the back.

Saving where we can, however much we can.
