How To Solve SAT Math In Half The Time
Added:Stop solving SAT math the hard way, you idiot. Seriously, because your math teacher lied to you. Not because they hate you. They just taught you the wrong way. They taught you to do twice the math for the exact same answer. But today, I'm going to fix that. I'll show you six SAT patterns that cut your work in half and make hard questions feel stupidly easy. And the best part, you don't need to be a math genius. You just need to stop solving SAT questions like an idiot. Let's start with the SAT's favorite way to waste your time. Pattern number one, the X trap. This is one of the SAT's oldest tricks. The question asks for one thing, and almost everybody solves something else. Now, let's see if you're an idiot. H. All right. Be honest. The second you saw this, you wanted to find X, didn't you? idiot.
Read the question. Seriously, does it ask for x? No. So, stop trying to find it. Instead, ask yourself, what expression keeps showing up? Then, rename it. This ugly fraction, huh? Call it a. Uh, your math teacher would have written that thing another 20 times.
We're not doing that. Now, the question becomes this. Do the exact same thing to the original equation. Now, it becomes this. Way better. It doesn't look like it was made by a psychopath anymore. And divide everything by two. Now you have exactly what you needed. The shortcut works immediately. Use the identity.
Substitute. Subtract two. Done. So the pattern is solve for what the SAT asks, not what you want, you idiot. Pattern number two, the perpendicular trap. This one's almost embarrassing. The SAT has been using the exact same trick for years, and idiots still fall for it.
Let's see if you're one of them.
All right. Question pops up. And you already picked four, didn't you?
Congratulations. You successfully identified a number. Unfortunately, not the right one. The equation isn't even in slope intercept form yet. That four is bait. And you bit it like an idiot. Here's the fast way to solve this. First, rewrite the equation. H.
Now you know the slope. -4. Now every whole number is just a fraction over one. So -4 becomes -4 over 1. Now here's the pattern. Perpendicular lines just flip the fraction and change the sign.
That's it. Flip it. Positive 1/4. Done.
Pattern number three. The matching trap.
The SAT spent a lot of effort making this question look impossible. Let's ruin all that work. H. Ew. This looks disgusting. Fractions. Another fraction.
Parentheses. Random letters. It's like the SAT took an easy question and put it in a Halloween costume. Perfect. Cuz the second you panic, you stop thinking. And when you stop thinking, you start multiplying everything by 56 like an absolute idiot. Don't. Seriously, the SAT is baiting you. This isn't a solve harder question. It's a matching question. Here's the rule. Whenever you see infinitely many solutions, don't ask yourself, "How do I solve this?" Ask yourself, "What has to match?" That's it. First, simplify the part that's practically begging you to. Already looks a lot less disgusting. Now, play the matching game. Match the x terms.
That gives you t equals 3. Don't celebrate yet. You're not even solving for t, you idiot. Plug it back in. Now, match the constants. Solve for m -35.
Done. Before I show you the fourth pattern, I want to show you what I've been building. It completely changes how you study for exams. It's called Angry Examiner. [laughter] Okay, let's get back to stealing free points from the SAT. Now, let's look at a question where it doesn't want you to solve anything. Pattern number four, the no solution trap. This one tricks you into doing about five minutes of algebra for absolutely no reason. Now, let's see if you're an idiot. You already grabbed a pencil, buddy. Put it down. Seriously, the SAT literally told you this system has no solution. So, why are you trying to solve it, you idiot? Here's how you solve this fast. Whenever the SAT says no solution, don't ask yourself, how do I solve this? Ask yourself, what makes two lines never meet? Parallel lines.
That's all this question is asking. And parallel lines have the same slope.
Watch. The x coefficient doubles. 3 becomes six. So the y coefficient has to do the same. Four becomes 8. So c equals 8. Done. Pattern number five. The answer is already there. One of the easiest shortcuts on the entire test and somehow one of the most ignored. Let's see if you over complicate it. H.
Multiplechoice. You know what that means? The exam already printed the correct answer right there on your screen. And somehow you still think, "Nah, I'll find my own answer." Like an idiot, buddy. They already did the hard part. Here's how you solve this fast.
Whenever it's multiplechoice, don't ask yourself, "How do I solve this?" Ask yourself, "Can I test the answers instead?" Sometimes that's way faster.
Watch. First, find the rate. The tank loses 12,200 L in 3 hours. So that's 400 L per hour. Now don't build an equation.
Just test the choices. Start in the middle. Choice C, 12 hours, too low. Go smaller. Choice B, 9 hours. 400 * 9 is 3600. 5,000 - 3600 = 1,400.
Done. Pattern number six, the maximum trap. These questions scare people because they use words maximum, minimum, at least at most. The second you see those words, you start overthinking.
Don't. Here's the question.
All right, calm down. There's only one thing you need to understand. If you want more of one thing, you need less of the other. That's it. So before you do any math, ask yourself, what's the minimum the other thing can be? You want as many 60 lb boxes as possible. So, what's the minimum number of 40 lb boxes you're allowed to take? The question says at least eight boxes. Perfect.
Let's use exactly eight. Now, the math is easy. Call the number of heavy boxes A. That leaves 8 minus A 40 lb boxes.
Now, use the weight limit. Simplify. A is at most four. So, the maximum number of 60 lb boxes is four. Done. But here's the bigger problem. You can learn every shortcut in this video and still waste hours studying the wrong way. You don't need more study time. You need a better system.
