The Baltimore riots of 1812 demonstrate how political dissent against war can lead to violent mob suppression of media institutions, as the Federal Republican newspaper was destroyed by an angry mob just four days after the War of 1812 was declared, illustrating the extreme measures some citizens took to silence opposing viewpoints during wartime.

The unhinged riots 💥 of 1812 in Baltimore against the woke Federal Republican newspaper.追加:
You think protests today are intense?
Wait till you hear about the Baltimore riots of 1812. These riots would start just 4 days after war was declared on Great Britain. On June 22nd, the streets were crowded with men angry about the woke British media. The Federal Republican newspaper was a pro- Federalist rag that had the gaul of publishing anti-war articles. The mob considered this pro-B British malarkey and proceeded to tear down the newspaper's headquarters piece by piece until its press was destroyed and the building leveled to its foundation.
Driven to continue their newspaper, they operated through the house of Mr. Wagner, one of the papers proprietors.
Not completely stupid, they got their friends together with musketss to defend the house. Sure as rain, the mob returned on June 28th to break some more [ __ ] They threw rocks and shattered windows, prompting the newspaper men to fire a bali over the mob's heads. Like a Portlander in a Pikachu costume, the people kept advancing on the house. As they got to the front door, a defender named Henry Lee fired a shot, killing a protester. He was drugged back into the mob, and the violence continued into the night. As the sun rose the next day, this situation escalated quickly. As Henry Lee sat sleepless by an upstairs window, he watched as the mom prepared a cannon and aimed it at the house. In an honestly pretty cool moment of mayoral heroism, Mayor Edward Johnson showed up and calmed the protesters. He showed up with 50 infantry and 20 draons who drugged the men in the house to the Baltimore prison. As they marched through the streets, men threw rocks and yelled insults. Sadly, Mayor Johnson's attempt at a peaceful resolution failed as the mob later came to the prison to finish the job. Some of the imprisoned men escaped unharmed, but others were caught by the mob who beat them savagely, drove knives into their hands, and poured hot candle wax into their eyes. My god, it's almost as bad as tarn feathering.
Wait, never mind. One of them was tarn and feathered, I guess. Surprisingly, these men all survived, which always blows my mind. All of this because a newspaper decided to say that a war with Great Britain was a bad idea. To explore more of the war, the actual war eventually, please like and subscribe as my series of the War of 1812 continues.
