[00:00:01]At this hour, an SAPD officer temporarily off the job. The incident just across state lines [music] that got him suspended. Plus, nearly 50 dogs seized at two homes in Bear County this week. What northeast side neighbors are saying this morning after 30 were taken by ACS [music] less than 24 hours ago.

[00:00:22]>> And good morning. Welcome back. Of course, the GMSA. It is Friday, guys. We made it to almost the back end of July.

[00:00:30]We're almost at the very very tip end of it.

[00:00:33]>> Yeah. I can't believe it. It's going to be another hot one. A lot of time to hit the pool this weekend or to go to just turn on the sprinklers, maybe something to cool off.

[00:00:42]>> We had to turn on the wipers today.

[00:00:43]>> Yeah, this morning. There is some rain this morning for many people. Uh now here in San Antonio, most of that rain has moved out, but we are still seeing some damp spots on the road and some areas of mist and drizzle. The main area of rain right now is working its way through Hondo down to Crystal City. I know that this area had a ton of rain last week and so you might be concerned about additional flooding. This is not the kind of rain that creates flooding.

[00:01:09]It's quick showers moving to the west here through Hondo Dehennis pushing toward Yaldi. It'll be in the Yaldi area within the next hour or so. Again, as we look a little closer to San Antonio, Bernie got some rain this morning. Uh and then there's really just some lingering light rain from Bverie down to Leyon Springs and Helotus early uh this morning. As we look at visibility, visibility is improving in San Antonio.

[00:01:33]But wherever there is a little bit of rain, expect some uh hit to visibility.

[00:01:37]We'll see some patchy drizzle through about 7:00 8:00 this morning in San Antonio and then we'll see gradually clearing skies. By noon, we'll only be in the 80s and the high today is only going to be 92 because we're going to have clouds to start the day. As for the weekend, it will be a lot hotter. I'll have those details for you in just a bit. All right, looking at your traffic authority, let's check out some trans guy cameras real quick. 410 Fredericksburg Road, you are looking crash free right now. See if we can get another camera in. 410 in Ingram, you too. Crashree conditions, peaceful out there, but that's not the case for all of our major roadways, Patty. and US 281 at Hildebrand. Slippery conditions may have caused that crash, that rollover that you saw right there. Alex Gomez is out at the scene right now to tell us what this means for our commute this morning.

[00:02:29]>> Yeah, good morning, Patty. So, this scene has been here for about 45 minutes now. And as you can see, we do have um some lanes blocked. So, SAPD, they actually switched it up now. They actually closed down the right side. So, we have two right lanes closed now and the left lane is open and that's because we do have a wrecker now on scene and they they need to use that right side to get that truck upright. So, that's what's happening here. Again, the driver is unharmed in this. He was actually uh treated right here very quickly and then EMS left. So, I'll keep you updated, but right now we are in the clearing stage.

[00:03:08]Well, a San Antonio police officer now being disciplined. And this was after what records described a very public incident at a New Mexico ski resort.

[00:03:17]>> Yeah. Discipline records show SAPD officer Taylor Thompson got a 15-day suspension not for being drunk in public, but for not reporting a police encounter at Teaos Ski Valley back in January. According to records, witnesses told resort police that he seemed highly intoxicated, stumbling, and confused.

[00:03:36]and surveillance video reportedly shows him drinking small bottles of liquor in public. He was eventually taken to a hospital and records uh records also say his girlfriend was arrested. Uh Teao's Ski Valley police later contacted SAPD internal affairs and SAPD records say Thompson never notified his supervisor which is what triggered the suspension.

[00:04:01]>> Overnight, a wrongway driver sending five people to the hospital. This happened on Blanco Road near Timberwood Park. Bear County Sheriff's deputy says that a white SUV and a black truck collided after one of the vehicles was heading south in the northbound lane.

[00:04:18]Five people were taken to the hospital, two in critical condition and three listed as stable. The sheriff's office is working to figure out what led up to that crash. Also, trouble adding up for a man now linked to a long list of store burglaries. Bear County Sheriff's investigators have charged 27-year-old Miss Kyle Garcia in connection with a series of burglaries. Bear County Sheriff's investigators believe that he was part of a group targeting small businesses, stealing cash and in some cases their entire ATMs. At least four businesses near Loop 1604 and Highway 281 were hit in the same night, including Shady Oaks Groceries and Thelma Food Store. Investigators say that the burglaries use saws to cut.

[00:05:01]Burglarers use saws to cut through metal gates and chains to get inside and they stole cigarettes, cash, ATMs, and even a safe. Bear County Sheriff's investigators believe that they know everyone who was involved and that includes 39year-old Ryan Shields and 32year-old Joseph Deleó, who both were arrested earlier this year.

[00:05:22]Well, neighbors in Stillwater Ranch in the far west side are still rattled after a shooting near a popular pickle ball court that sent bullets into nearby homes and parked cars. The sheriff's office says gunfire was exchanged between two or three vehicles around 9:15 Tuesday night on EMTT Grove, just yards from where families were playing.

[00:05:43]One dad says players heard a barrage of shots, saw flashes, and everyone scrambled for cover. And now deputies have arrested a 17-year-old and 18-year-old Aniia West nearby. West is charged with tampering with evidence.

[00:05:59]>> They were hysterical. Some of the girls were hysterical. The boys were hysterical. But when they they bunched up in the corner, which is really not the right thing to do. They were just trying to find cover. They were just trying to find cover. They were just trying to be safe. And that's what probably bothers me the most.

[00:06:14]Investigators are also looking into a man who showed up at urgent care with gunshot wounds but did not cooperate.

[00:06:20]The case is still under investigation and if you have any information uh about this encounter, call the Bear County Sheriff's Office.

[00:06:29]An arrest made connected to a northeast side credit union robbery where authorities say that two masked men walked in wielding a gun and a machete.

[00:06:38]57year-old Omar Rosendez Diaz was taken into custody this week after investigators matched his clothing to one of the suspects through surveillance and body camera video. Authorities tell the alleged robbery happened July 18th at a security service Federal Credit Union and this was on North Loop 1604.

[00:06:57]We're told that the two men walked in, demanded money from a teller, and robbed customers of their wallets and purses before taking off in a stolen car. SAPD says that they recovered the stolen items from Rosendez Diaz when he was arrested. He's charged with aggravated robbery. Meanwhile, the second suspect is still on the loose.

[00:07:18]Two separate cases leading to over 50 animals being taken into local shelters this week where the latest is happening on the northeast side with 30 dogs being taken away. And this comes as ACS says they are at a critical capacity with more animals coming in after being rescued from last week's flood. KAT's Hannah Gonzalez joins us live to tell us about these latest cases and what pet and owners need to know to avoid getting into trouble. Good morning, Hannah.

[00:07:48]>> Well, like Jeff said, those 30 dogs were seized in the northeast side property in regards to an animal cruelty investigation. Animal Care Services was called out after multiple complaints of foul odor uh that led them to the property of uh sorry, excuse me, near Sedto Vista Street and L Sharka Drive when the owners wouldn't respond.

[00:08:12]Officers got a warrant and pulled the dogs out. The dogs, a mix of American Stafford Shire and Shepard breeds, are now being checked out by vets. Some had minor injuries. No charges have been filed so far. they come and oh before uh I used to get scared because they would be barking.

[00:08:33]Um so eventually I I actually called 311 because of that and he eventually fixed his fence.

[00:08:46]>> Yeah.

[00:08:46]>> Because they were climbing. That is a big big uh relief and comfort. I'm sure all the neighbors here are.

[00:08:59]>> This comes just days after 18 dogs were seized in southwest Bear County. This was from a property near I35 in Kenny Road. They were found malnourished and living in filthy kennels. The sheriff's office says a tipster called them telling them that the owner had left the state for medical reasons and had left the dogs to fend for themselves for weeks. This is the same property where investigators seized dozens of dogs and other animals back in 2023. At that time, they described what was happening there as a puppy mill. A reminder that animal cruelty in Texas can carry serious consequences. A first offense for failing to provide food, water, care, or shelter. Abandoning an animal, cruel confinement, or causing injuries can be a class A misdemeanor. This will lead you in a jail for a year with a $4,000 fine. Of course, more serious and repeat offenders could face a felony.

[00:10:06]Thanks, Hannah. Well, this morning, a nun in the Rio Grand Valley is speaking out after being detained last month by ICE agents. It's her right here. Uh it happened as she was on her way to church. Do you remember the story of Sister Lety? She was walking to mass in BR Brownsville late last month when ICE agents approached her, later taking her into custody. Now, this caused an immediate response from civil rights groups and lawmakers. Sister Alleti was released the same day. Now, nearly a month later, she is speaking out about what happened.

[00:10:41]>> I have been in this community more than a decade, more than a decade. Um, I have cared for the sick as a nurse in various hospitals. I will not pretend he did hurt and he's still hurting me up to today.

[00:10:58]>> And by the way, we still don't know what led to his sister Lety being detained.

[00:11:03]>> Governor Greg Abbott will be in Cula today to see flood damage firsthand and help serve meals to Texans hit by severe weather. He'll be at the Lasal County Courthouse as state and local officials briefed the governor on what they're seeing on the ground. That briefing limited to photos and videos, but Abbott is set to speak publicly afterward.

[00:11:22]We'll bring you the damage, the relief efforts, and what state leaders had to say. Coming up, >> river is expected to stay flooded through the weekend and [music] even into parts of next week. But here in San Antonio, we have seen some rain this morning. Will we have any rain over the weekend? those details for you coming up.

[00:11:45]>> Uh, I feel like they're rotten. They're taking advantage of most people.

[00:11:49]>> More backlash over the potential [music] of data centers, where one could soon be built, and why people who live nearby don't want it.

[00:11:57]>> Plus, gas prices are high, and that's due to the conflict in the Middle East.

[00:12:01][music] What you can expect to pay at the gas pump as we head into the weekend. and infrastructure upgrades at Joint Base San Antonio Fort Sam Houston.

[00:12:10]Why construction [music] is taking place and how much it's costing.

[00:12:17]Renovations are coming to Joint Base San Antonio Fort Sam Houston. As we reported, more than 5,000 medical students living in dorms were relocated due to what the base calls infrastructure concerns. Now, according to a statement from Congressman Huain Castro, the Department of Defense's plans are to replace five barracks that have mold. It's expected to cost over a billion dollars. Earlier this week, Kes had got several emails and calls from people claiming the mold in the dorms force military members to move into hotels. We did ask if any of the students got sick due to the dorm conditions. Officials with Joint Base San Antonio have not responded as of this morning.

[00:13:01]Overnight, US military forces bombed parts of Iran for 13th night in a row.

[00:13:07]>> Yeah. President Trump says he is planning what he calls a military attack bigger than all others during this conflict. Here at home, the economy is taking a hit because of the ongoing fighting in the Middle East. Yesterday, the price of barrel of crude oil topped $100 for the first time since May. And that's leading to higher gas prices here in the Alamo City. You can see right there, the average right now is $3.76.

[00:13:35]That's about 5 cents above the state's average across the country. The average for a gallon of gas is $410.

[00:13:45]>> 616. Right now, I want to draw your attention to this part of the screen. We got a dramatic crash to show you right here in Houston area. It left an 18-wheeler hanging over the edge of the overpass less than 24 hours ago. First responders in Harris County say that two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries following that accident along the Katy Freeway yesterday morning. Crews worked for most of the day to clear that scene before reopening all of the lanes on the highway. The Harris County Sheriff's Office is now investigating that crash.

[00:14:18]>> This morning, no major damage reported after an earthquake yesterday in the Texas panhandle. The US Geological Survey has confirmed a magnitude 5 earthquake hit near Miami, Texas, about three and a half miles underground. That is just outside of Amarillo. In the last 5 years, the state has seen seven quakes at 5.0 zero or higher.

[00:14:46]>> And right now, this scene is making progress just north of downtown. This is going to be 21 southbound at Hildebrand.

[00:14:52]And we do have that record. He was able to get that truck that was involved in this crash up right now. So again, we are making progress. Just know that the right lanes are still going to be closed. That left lane is the only one that's open. And this scene has been here for an hour now. And right now, it's still holding steady at about half a mile of backup. Patty and Jeff. All right, thank you so much, Alex. And speaking of crashes, there's another one that just popped up as well on Route 410 and 37 westbound lane. That's something to keep in mind if that is a part of your commute as well. [00:16:06]And some of those crashes this morning happening because the roads are damp in some places, but things are clearing up for us here in San Antonio. Really just some light rain remaining in parts of the Alamo City. Meanwhile, we've got some moderate showers and even a few flashes of lightning heading towards Sabinol, Canipa, and Yaldi. I want to put your minds at ease. I know that this area was completely flooded last week.

[00:16:28]This is not the kind of rain that causes flooding. It's moving quickly and it's moving quickly to the west. You can see that Bernie this morning got a quick shower right now. Crystal City down to Cisso Springs in the southern part of Maverick County getting some of this rain. Eventually some light showers will make their way toward Del Rio. As we look a little bit closer to San Antonio, you can see really all we're dealing with is some light rain on the northwest side of town from Lyon Springs to Helotus out toward Bulverie and Canyon Lake as well. This is all what is left over from what was tropical storm Bertha. As we take a view across Texas, you can see that cluster of showers here pushing to the west. This is the remnants of Bertha moving off to the west. It was a very weak system. There was one flash flood warning out near Houston uh earlier yesterday uh from this system and that is honestly about it. There really wasn't much to Bertha.

[00:17:22]As we look at the futurecast, you can see that as I mentioned, the rain will be falling apart. We are going to stay a little cloudy though until the midm morning, late afternoon hours. That's when we'll see mostly sunny skies. Uh so looking at your KAT 12-h hour forecast, some patchy drizzle through about 8:00.

[00:17:40]Then we'll see gradually clearing skies.

[00:17:42]By noon, we're only going to be at 83.

[00:17:45]In contrast, that's where we spent most of our mornings by 10:00 a.m. So, it is going to be a slow warmup rather than a quick warmup today. In the afternoon, we're going to be at 92 for the high, which is cooler than seasonably average.

[00:17:58]Bit breezy, southeast winds at about 15 miles per hour. Looking at highs across South Central Texas. The average is 96.

[00:18:06]So again, cooler than average today. 93 in New Bronals, 94 in Pleasanton, 96 in Del Rio, only 90 in Fredericksburg and in Kurville. In fact, it's going to be quoteunquote cooler in San Antonio than it will be in parts of Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho. This is where we have that high pressure system. That heat high is going to settle overhead in the days ahead and we're going to gradually see temperatures rise, including over the weekend. So, looking at your forecast, heat high, uh, high temperatures rather, near 100 again by Tuesday. So this weekend, morning clouds tomorrow and a high of 95, 97 on Sunday with a heat index of 101. No rain in our forecast over the weekend. So enjoy some time by the pool. As we look at next week, certainly adding on to that triple digit tally, 100 or even a little bit hotter for the majority of next week.

[00:19:26]>> Well, happening today, SpaceX will be once again trying to get that test launch in their Starship rocket. It's a live look right here at the Star Base.

[00:19:34]This is after yesterday's launch was scrubbed during the final seconds of the countdown. SpaceX cited the weather as the reason for standing down. A lot is planned for the test launch, including a stage separation with the Starship and booster, as well as releasing 20 Starlink satellites into orbit. Today's launch window opens in less than 12 hours. It'll take place at 5:45.

[00:19:55]>> And listen, that launch by SpaceX could come exactly 57 years after the capsule carrying NASA's Apollo 11 crew splashed back down on Earth. Among the crew was Neil Armstrong, who had just become the first human to walk on the moon. The other astronauts on board were Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. Right now, NASA is continuing its current moon mission known as Aremis. The next rocket launch of this program is set for next summer.

[00:21:38]>> Hey there, I'm Patty Santos and we have so many headlines to get you caught up with. Make sure that you have a great Friday. But first, let's check in with meteorologist Sarah Spivey who's in for Justin this morning. Sarah, it's going to be another hot one. Yeah, but you know what? Before people head out, I think they should know that there are some damp spots on the roads from some rain overnight and early this morning.

[00:21:59]We had some quick passing showers around San Antonio. And as we look at the forecast for the day today, by 9 though, all of the rain will be completely out of the area, but we do have some clouds and those clouds are going to stick around until the uh midm morning and early afternoon hours. Then we'll see some sun and it'll be 92. That's it for the high. You know, that's quite a bit cooler than we have been the last couple of days. As we look at visibility though, you can see that in many areas visibility is limited. Like even at Port SA down to four miles and that's because some of these areas are still dealing with some light rain and some areas of drizzle. Drizzle around San Antonio.

[00:22:38]That's actually the bats heading back home to the Bracken Cave. But up near Bernie, we've had some rain. And there's also some rain pushing into Sabinol and Canipa and Yaldi. I know this area is very um water logged and nervous about any additional rain. This is moving though. It is not going to cause any flooding issues. Tomorrow we get up to 95 for the high and 97 on Sunday.

[00:23:01]Rainfree over the weekend, but it'll even be hotter next week. I've got that forecast for you coming up.

[00:23:08]All right, let's uh get a look at traffic this morning. Uh some accidents to tell you about, but for the most part, things are looking pretty nice.

[00:23:15]410 at Old Pieraw Road. Traffic moving along nicely. I do want to tell you about I37 at Jones. It looks like there's a vehicle uh that is in that area that it's impacting um one of the lanes along there. There is a uh police car that's flashing its light. There's also a stalled vehicle at I35 at Maine.

[00:23:35]Uh but everything else is looking very nice out there.

[00:23:38]>> Let's get out to go.

[00:23:45]>> Yeah. And so the the 281 southbound at Hildebrand crash should be clearing up soon as well because the truck is already hitched up and they're doing a little bit of a a sweep right now on those right lanes. So the left lane is the only lane that's open right now and this scene has been here for over an hour and that's why the the backup is starting to get a little bit longer. I'd say it's about a mile long as of right now. But I'll keep you updated. This should be clearing within the next 10 minutes. Jeff and Patty.

[00:24:15]Listen to this. Every 10 days, a team from the San Antonio River Authority goes down the riverwalk in a kayak and removes invasive snails and their eggs from the water. Sounds interesting.

[00:24:26]>> It sounds pretty cool. The river authority actually says the apple snail is native to South America and hurts the San Antonio Rivers ecosystem, which is not such a cool thing. But Kat's Hannah Gonzalez live along the riverw walk as we speak. Hannah, the question is, how did the snails get in there? And did you have a fun time playing around with them?

[00:24:47]>> They actually wouldn't let me hold them.

[00:24:49]I wanted to pick them up myself, but the San Antonio River Authority believes someone dumped their aquarium with one or a few of these apple snails. They first became aware of the issue back in 2019. And because they populate so rapidly, it became an issue that they're still struggling to tackle. In the past 7 years, they've removed close to 43,000 snails and more than 118,000 egg clusters. And in those clusters, there's up to 2,000 individual eggs. It's a lot.

[00:25:23]So, at the start of the year, the river authorities started two pilot projects.

[00:25:28]They went from going out every 14 days to every 10 to remove the uh eggs before they could mature and hatch. They also put two types of barriers under the water to help stop the snails from coming up to lay those eggs. And at the end of this year, they'll collect the data to see if their efforts worked.

[00:25:48]>> In a year on materials, probably anywhere from 2500. Um, we try to keep it as low cost as possible. Obviously, the the the money that we get is is taxpayer based. So, we want to make sure we're managing our resources properly.

[00:26:03]>> [snorts] >> Um, and that's exactly why we also did a pilot project first. We didn't want to just go in, spend money trying to do something we didn't know would work. And so, we're testing it out before we actually implement it further.

[00:26:16]>> And this isn't the only invasive species living inside the San Antonio River. So, to help stop any future dumping, the River Authority has partnered with four local pet shops that will take your aquarium and the creatures inside. The River Authority also relies heavily on its volunteers. They're called the River Warriors. So, if you're interested to remove these invasive species, you can sign up and come out as often as you like. Reporting live, I'm Hannah Gonzalez, KAT2 News.

[00:26:48]Cleanup efforts still underway across the Texas Hill Country, and this is after the devastating floods that swept through the area. At Buck Wild Animal Rescue and Wildlife Rehab, the owner, Katie Buck, recorded video uh during the flooding last week showing the entire property underwater. The rescue sits along the Lazy Creek, which flows into the Guadalupe River. And Bug says she was able to move hundreds of animals to safety, but the flooding caused major damage to enclosures and other structures.

[00:27:19]It was so bad just to watch all of our stuff just disappear, you know, and and it didn't do that last year. So, it seemed like it was just a little more it it was a little more rough than last year as far as like the amount of rain, the amount of water that came through here.

[00:27:37]>> And volunteers have been out all week helping with clean up. More crews are expected later today to rebuild an enclosure that was destroyed. Uh Buck says she also plans to apply for grant funding for nonprofits and she's considering a second location on higher ground to reduce future flood risk.

[00:27:57]Well, Kenyon Lake is filled up this morning thanks to last week's rain in areas of West Bear County. But is that water safe for swimming and recreation?

[00:28:07]>> So that same question goes for the upper Guadalupe River. Also, the Canyon Lake still open for business, but water quality testing results are still pending. State officials say that it can take days after a flood before waterways are safe, and they urge people to follow any local advisories before getting in the water. One business owner on the lake believes that they would be shut down if conditions were unsafe.

[00:28:31]>> So, if water quality wasn't good, y'all wouldn't be open.

[00:28:34]>> No. No, we wouldn't allowed to be open.

[00:28:35]The whole park would be closed. The core, they oversee us directly. They would they would be shutting us down.

[00:28:42]>> Of the Guadalupe River, initial testing in Kirk County show bacteria levels are mostly within safe limits, but officials are still urging people to stay out of the water in Kurville, warning that the murky water and flood debris can hide serious hazards.

[00:28:59]The Texas Water Development Board just approved $75 million for the Alliance Regional Water Authority. The money will go towards local water system upgrades, helping several counties, including Bear. The funding will expand the Careso water treatment plant to its full capacity at about 38 million gallons a day. The state officials say the program could save the authority about $14 million. With our region growing and drought always a threat, this project is aimed at keeping reliable water available while cutting down on borrowed costs. San Antonio Water System is rolling out a new tool for customers who want to see where the water goes. Sauce just launched a public non revenue water dashboard. You're seeing it right here.

[00:29:46]Basically tracking water that's produced but not built like leaks and main breaks plus unbuilt uses like firefighting and maintenance. Saw says the data will update uh monthly and uh they're already cutting that water loss by 26%. And they credit faster leak repairs technology that helps find hidden leaks, replacing older meters with more accurate electronic ones and fixing high risk pipes before they fail.

[00:30:18]Data centers are once again sparking backlash near San Antonio, this time in Guadalupe County. So, the neighbors there say two projects are actually moving forward without enough transparency. Homeowners packed meetings to oppose the Palomino Alpha and the Cloudburst data centers, raising concerns about everything from the utility bills and the water use to the environmental impacts, including air quality from backup generators. the water bills. I don't want them to go up any higher. But if the data centers start draining the waters from the homeowners, what do we do?

[00:30:54]>> It's enough is enough. People are tired of this kind of being sold out by their community leaders.

[00:30:59]>> An attorney with the Save Our Springs Alliance says that they've now filed a lawsuit against the Guadalupe County Commissioner's Court, claiming some meetings didn't meet requirements under Texas open meetings and tax laws. The county's attorney office told Kesat it won't comment because of pending litigation.

[00:31:16]>> And opponents are also raising questions about a potential conflict involving the county judge's property. While that developers have not responded to KAT's request for comment.

[00:31:29]>> Well, happening today, President Donald Trump moving forward with a new round of tariffs on foreign goods. And starting today, the Trump administration will implement a 10 to 12.5% tariff on items shipped to the United States from dozens of countries. It comes as previous tariffs are set to expire soon. White House officials say that President Trump is committed to his foreign trade agenda despite the Supreme Court striking down some of his tariffs plans earlier this year.

[00:34:16]Midwest Poultry Service is recalling millions of eggs due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall includes nearly 1.6 million dozen white shell eggs and brown cage-free eggs that were produced right here in farms in Texas. They have best buy or sell by dates between July 20th and August 17th of 2026. The eggs were distributed to food service and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. The retailers include Kroger and Brookshshire grocery stores in those states as well as Arkansas, New Mexico, and Mississippi. Midwest Poultry says there have been no reported illnesses linked to the recall eggs.

[00:35:10]>> All right, thanks so much, Alex. And let's take a look at some of the other issues out there. I know that at I37 and Jones, there was a stalled vehicle on the right. So, uh there were some backups for drivers that are going through that area. Uh but overall, 35 at Freo, uh Frostbank, excuse me. Uh traffic moving along very nicely. It looks like the roads are finally starting to dry off a little bit from the rain that we got this morning. And here's a look at your drive time into the San Antonio area. If you're coming in from uh New Bron Falls on I37, a 74 minute commute there. Uh from Bverie at 29 minutes. Uh from Leveria, 87 minutes on uh State Highway 87.

[00:35:55]Yeah. And that issue coming in from uh uh New Bron Falls along 35 is all that construction that's happening there at the 1604 interchange. You can see that we have got clouds out there this morning and we have dealt with some rain in places earlier today. It's 77 right now though. Most of that rain has pushed out of San Antonio and the roads are drying. Here's a current look at the authority radar as we go ahead and put this in motion. There are some areas of patchy drizzle still left around the city. Uh and then up near Bernie, we've got one shower that's going to approach I 10 there very shortly. This signature you see here is not rain. It's actually the bats returning to the Bracken Cave.

[00:36:35]As we look off to the west, I don't want to forget our friends out in Yaldi County. Of course, very nervous now anytime there's some rain there. Uh but I'm happy to report that that because this is light and because this is moving, there's not going to be any flooding issues from this. By the time this little band of rain makes its way to Del Rio, it's really going to fall apart quite a bit. Now, all of this is because of the remnants of Bertha. Now, believe it or not, there are still areas of drought within South Central Texas.

[00:37:03]Most of that is south of San Antonio because these are the areas that did not receive as much rain as other areas did last week. And as I circle the area of drought, I can show you how much rain has fallen on the areas that are currently experiencing drought. And it's good news, especially for Wilson County.

[00:37:20]1 to two inches of rain in Wilson County, about an inch and a half in Atcosa County. So, we will see some drought improvement likely from these rains. As I just mentioned, all of this is from the remnants of Bertha, which is moving off to the west, falling apart even more. This is a different situation than we saw last week. We're not going to see that low park itself. It's going to keep on moving. It's going to get out of here. And so, what we're going to see patchy drizzle through about 8:00, yes, but skies will clear by noon. It'll be 83, but because we've started cloudy and with some areas of rain, we're only going to warm up to 92 today for the high. That is hot, but it's not nearly where we usually are this time of year, which is around 96. 91 in Bverie. It'll be 93 in Bandera, 92 in Hondo, 94 in Floresville and Pleasanton, 93 in Gonzalez. Even some places in the Hill Country struggling to get out of the 80s today. Now, tomorrow it will be hotter as we break down your weekend forecast.

[00:38:16]some morning clouds to on Sunday a heat index of 101. Definitely hot. Uh but it'll be a lot hotter next week as a heat high settles over. Temperatures climbing to above 100 Tuesday onward.

[00:38:29]I've got to talk about the newasis and the Freo. Areas still experiencing major flooding include Cula, Tilden along the Freo. Uh the area in uh the county south of Tilden along the new Oasis is expected to flood and eventually near George West expected to flood as well.

[00:38:47]This is important to note. Choke Canyon is already starting to rise from the flood waters up about 7 ft. But Lake Corpus Christi is not going to rise until late next week because it takes so long for the newasis to drain into Lake Corpus Christi. So, still some major flooding out there along the Newasis in the Freo, but we do not have any rain chances in our forecast after this morning for the foreseeable future.

[00:39:12]Again, we've only had one 100 degree day in San Antonio so far this year, but we are going to add on to that tally as we head into the middle of next week.
