Day 42 | Back on The Trail | Appalachian Trail 2026

[00:00:00]Hello and welcome to day 42 of my Appalachian Trail through hike.

[00:00:06]We're just headed to the dining room to have breakfast before finishing out our lazy zero day experience at Shenandoah and getting back on the trail.

[00:00:44]Back on the trail with more pretty views.

[00:01:21]This area of trail has been some of the rockiest of Shenandoah.

[00:01:26]Um it's been pretty smooth trails for most of the park.

[00:01:30]Very you know, you could tell they've done work on them.

[00:01:34]But I know more rocks are coming.

[00:01:39]See, rocks.

[00:01:46]Thankfully, I don't have to go up that.

[00:01:48]The trail just goes that way.

[00:02:17]>> And now, we're just back to some nice regular trail.

[00:02:24]Mostly smooth.

[00:02:54]Today it felt really nice.

[00:02:56]I don't know if it's cuz I've got fresh legs off a zero or because the trail is just really easy and flat today.

[00:03:07]Um but I've gone almost 6 miles and going 14 today, so just feels like I'm meandering through.

[00:03:18]Got about a little more than half of the day left.

[00:03:30]So, I think this area is the Skyland Stables. So, it's where people can like, I guess, put their horses uh when they come to do horse riding in the park.

[00:03:43]But, there's like a pasture and some buildings.

[00:03:50]I don't see any horses.

[00:03:54]I found a horse.

[00:04:04]Oh, wow.

[00:04:05]Right there.

[00:04:17]So, I guess maybe it's not for people to bring their horses. Maybe it's like the National Park horses because there were signs about like reserving uh rides on the horses and everything, so that's interesting.

[00:04:33]And I guess this is still the AT cuz there's a little white blaze.

[00:04:56]And now I'm back to where I was yesterday where I went on a short hike with my mom on the Stony Man Trail.

[00:05:04]And I'm going to split off and go a different direction this time.

[00:05:07]But I'm also thinking about finding a spot to have lunch.

[00:05:13]I just finished eating lunch on this log and now I'm going to have my Pepsi cherry Pepsi that I packed out. Mom brought it for me, so figured I would take it for my first day back.

[00:06:04]Um up there is where the cars would be.

[00:06:08]And they get the view, but I get to be down here and have the same view while I'm hiking the trail.

[00:06:35]Made it to camp and set up my tent. Now, I'm just going to rest cuz I'm not feeling great.

[00:06:42]So, just going to take some time and hopefully feel better in time to make some dinner.

[00:06:52]Okay, it's been about an hour. I'm feeling better enough to make dinner.

[00:06:57]I am the only one here so far at the shelter. I'd be really surprised if I'm the only one tonight because Shenandoah has been pretty packed this this last week and maybe my zero though has mixed up the schedules.

[00:07:13]So, I'm going to make some dinner.

[00:07:28]All right, had a good evening. One other hiker showed up, Spark Plug. So, he made a fire and me just sat around it for a little bit.

[00:07:36]And now I'm headed back to my tent for the evening. Probably go to bed shortly.
