[00:00:01]I'm out here in Wind Cave and I found some evidence of a controlled burn right on this beautiful stretch of mixed grass prairie.

[00:00:12]You can see as the ponderosa pine are still good while the grass itself is burned. And this is a vastly different stance from what we usually find out here in the American West.

[00:00:27]Mainly we usually see I would say crown burning. It can also be like I guess whole tree burning where the entire trees and forest will be gone including grass which would be devastating for about 10 to 15 years like the U Park fire at Philmont.

[00:00:48]But yeah, it's just gorgeous.

[00:00:51]Forest fires are also very good for rejuvenating prairie grass.

[00:00:57]Indigenous peoples over across the continent used it to control their environment and to favor certain plants.
