[00:00:00]Matt's here with us uh tracking some fairly dynamic weather.

[00:00:02]>> Yeah, eastern Oregon getting just hammered with thunderstorms right now and our skies beginning to look a little bit stormy as well. We start you up in the Cascades looking to the east from our camera at Timberline Lodge and you can see the heavy clouds there. I haven't uh had much rain at Timberline.

[00:00:16]Looks like we may just now beginning uh be beginning to get a few showers at Timberline, but there are thunderstorms out there. 55 degrees at Timberline.

[00:00:25]Look at the wind gusting at 28 miles an hour. It's going to be a very windy 24 hours on the mountain even without the storms. Meanwhile, shifting to our camera in the Dows on the Oregon Veterans Home. Here's Mount Hood over here. So, we're looking to the southwest and these clouds have been getting very, very ominous looking, if you will. 82 degrees in the Dallas and also the wind gusting to 28 mph in the Dallas as well. Okay, on to Doppler radar. This is new. We're seeing a thunderstorm just east of Mount Hood now. And we expected this area, Wasco County up towards Hood River County and eastern Clackamus County to get storms tonight. And these are beginning to pop. But boy, to the south and east of that, look at this line of thunderstorms here. Several hundred.

[00:01:05]That's about 500 strikes in the last hour. We'll end up with thousands of lightning strikes in Oregon in the 24-h hour period ending tomorrow morning.

[00:01:12]Right. Some of these storms, as I mentioned, have been severe and producing incredible rainfall amounts.

[00:01:18]This is south of Spray, Oregon, east of Mitchell. Right along the John Day Highway, basically Highway 26 through John Day Country. There's Davville and then Long Creek and 395. But where you see these magenta colors, the rainfall rates in here are really big, like a foot an hour, that's how hard it's raining there. Where you see the blue, those are areas where Doppler radar thinks there's hail falling. And these storms have the capability of producing really large hail, like upwards of an inch in diameter. So again, severe thunderstorm warnings for those storms right there. These storms are pushing east to west and the severe thunderstorm watch for this entire area of eastern Oregon. Well, part of it may be dropped now for Malhir County, Harney County, and Baker County, but also in eastern Washington. The uh severe thunderstorm watch for Hood River County goes until 8:00 tonight. We could still get storms after that, but they won't be quite as strong. But here's what we're dealing with these with these storms. The potential for large hail and heavy downpours. Wind gusts can reach 60 even 80 miles an hour near these storms. And of course all the lightning. So these are not to be taken lightly. If you hear thunder, thunder roars, go indoors. That is the message and certainly one to heed today. Satellite imaging these intense cloud tops here. Watch how it's kind of, you know, whatever. And then they get really, really bright and you almost see them like bubbling up like water in a river. It's really interesting to see that from space. Our high today in Portland, 83, above average by a lot.

[00:02:43]But look at Medford, only 58, only 57 at Lake View. So the heavy cloud cover down there putting a lid on the temperatures while up in the north we were the warmest area. They are closer to this area of low pressure that's spinning around oh just to the west of Lake Tahoe right now. So we're getting the return flow around that which is what's giving us this east to west motion on these storms. And our sky in Portland is looking a bit stormy too. Although more than likely we end up with just a few showers late tonight, tomorrow morning.

[00:03:10]And again, it's going to be much cooler with a high only 66 in Portland, 65 in Vancouver tomorrow, and 64 in Long View.
