I Fixed my 500 Year Old Staircase

[00:00:00]Last week, something super cool happened.

[00:00:02]I was repairing a broken lintel, and then out of the corner of my eye, I saw something.

[00:00:13]I ended up finding these two bits of stone.

[00:00:16]And I realized they're part of my staircase. So, today we're going to fix it.

[00:00:30]So, I'm going to use this product. It's a chemical resin.

[00:00:35]Apparently, it goes up to 1 ton. So, hopefully, that should be strong [music] enough. If it's not, I don't really know what else I could use. And as you can see, this is all just like crumbling away. So, I'm going to pick all of this out to then fix that at the same time.

[00:01:02]>> [music] >> Right, so I'm going to use this chemical resin. It's got like a tube that mixes it, so you have to use this special tube. So, it mixes it all together. Um This stuff will get you high.

[00:01:16]My cat's observing me as well, so So, it's just like I don't know if you can see that mixing in.

[00:01:27]Ooh.

[00:01:28]Pretty cool.

[00:02:00]>> Okay, so it's now been 20 minutes [music] and that's pretty crazy. I mean, it is not moving what whatsoever.

[00:02:10]I'm pretty impressed [music] with that.

[00:02:12]Now, I'm going to point it up.

[00:02:14]Okay, now I'm going to mix up some lime and some sand. It's a one part lime and three part sand. Whatever you do, don't get this on your hands cuz it really burns.

[00:02:34]How many is that?

[00:02:39]Somehow, every single glove I own is a left glove.

[00:02:43]So, if you have a right glove and want to swap for a left glove, let me know.

[00:02:55]Now, it doesn't matter what this looks like, even if you get it all over the stonework, because we'll end up scraping it off with a metal brush, a wire brush.

[00:03:20]Okay, so it's been a couple of hours.

[00:03:21]Now, I can clean the pointing with this wire brush.

[00:03:24]>> [snorts] >> Being in a relationship with a builder definitely cannot be easy. There are like a million jobs that I've started and haven't finished. So, here's a few of them.

[00:03:42]Fill this hole in that's been there for 2 years.

[00:03:46]I still haven't fixed these skirtings.

[00:03:48]I've half patched this hole in. Um just haven't sanded it back and painted it again yet.

[00:03:54]Don't even get me started on the patio.

[00:03:58]So hard getting home from work and then doing it at home as well.

[00:04:03]Justine's gone away for the evening, so I'm going to surprise her and try and do the light while she's away.

[00:04:08]I picked up this plaster rose on Facebook Marketplace.

[00:04:12]>> [snorts] >> Think it needs a bit of a dust off, but it was 20 euros. So, rose is going on the ceiling and then I'm going to hang this super cool light. I don't know if I'm going to manage to do it on my own cuz it's going to be heavy, I think, but let's do it.

[00:04:23]I've decided to move the light where it is cuz it doesn't look right where it is at the moment.

[00:04:31]>> [snorts] >> Wear a mask.

[00:04:35]I couldn't find my mask.

[00:04:51]I wanted to surprise her with a light, but I think all I'm going to surprise her with is dust.

[00:04:59]As you can see, I've got my safety shoes on.

[00:05:13]>> [snorts] >> Right, so I've got this standard classic like skirting fixing glue.

[00:05:20]Then I've got a class up T-Rex glue.

[00:05:24]And then, I've also got the chemical resin glue. I don't know which one to use, so I'm going to use all three. That way I can't go wrong. And then, I've got this piece of wood that I've cut and I'm going to like prop it up with that.

[00:05:38]Hopefully, this will work.

[00:06:05]>> [music] >> This is the light she's chosen and it's come with gloves.

[00:06:19]So, I hope I don't drop it.

[00:06:42]Right, so that's been about an hour or so. So, that's probably stuck now and uh I think it's going to look weird.

[00:06:50]This is massive.

[00:06:53]It's going to look really weird. Now, I'm not sure what to do. Right, moment of truth.

[00:07:02]Wait, it didn't go.

[00:07:13]>> [music] [music] >> So this light is called Stockholm from IKEA 2025 designed by Nike Karlsson.

[00:07:57]Well Nike Karlsson, I would have had a fight with you putting that light up because honestly that was a nightmare.
